Blade element momentum theory
editHi Deb, I have included some references to validate the material on the Blade Element Momentum theory page. I have also taken a few lines out of the maths to make it simpler. Does the page now have sufficient references?
Deletion of the page: Tower Shadow
editHi Deb,
You recently deleted a page on tower shadow that I was in the process of working on, which in my opinion was unjustified. In the space of going for a lunch break I find the page deleted. I have no back up version. Can you re-install this page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Smilesgiles89 (talk • contribs) 14:00, 12 April 2013 (UTC)
Deletion of the page: MOVE Guides
editHi Deb,
You deleted a page I created a few days ago for what I believe is not a fair reason and with no notification. The page was created very recently and is about a highly disruptive company in the HR software/technology space. The company includes firms like Amazon, Tesco, and many more amongst its clients and serves 1000s of customers. It's partners and investors are high profile individuals. That in and of itself is enough reason to justify a small page in wikipedia in the interest of public knowledge. Furthermore, the company has gotten ample press coverage and recently even featured in the London Tech City insiders top 100 game changers.
I think Jonathan (who made some comments below) put it best: "Wikipedia is an excellent tool where many collaborators can contribute to a page, but this takes some time for people to all jump on and do their bit, so I think pages should not be deleted for lack of evidence unless they have been sitting there for a while. Maybe I should have had more notes or tags at the top of the article stating that it was a bit of a work-in-progress,..."
I am happy to make any edits you think would be necessary to make a balanced article, but strongly feel that deleting ANY article like that without any fair warning to editors and users is wrong. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
Thanks
Tom Tototom —Preceding undated comment added 12:48, 5 April 2013 (UTC)
You don't mean 'disruptive' - that's very misleading. You also don't know the background to the deletion of Jonathan's article, which had been sitting around for 3 weeks waiting for someone else to bring it up to the required standard before it was deleted. I don't normally give warnings - I expect contributors to have read the wikipedia guidelines before they create an article. I have left some advice on your talk page.Deb (talk) 07:37, 6 April 2013 (UTC)

Deletion of the page:Auckland Music Theatre Incorporated
editHi Deb, you deleted my article about Auckland Music Theatre Incorporated yesterday, stating that it did not meet significance guidelines.
I had only created this page recently, it was very much a work-in-progress and I was in the process of encouraging people that are very familiar with the organisations long history to jump on and add a whole lot of content to the page. The organisation is a not-for-profit organisation which produces amateur theatrical shows and provides education etc. for young people growing up who want to become involved in theatre. It was formed in 1919 so is almost 100 years old, and has had more than 100,000 people over those years attend at various points in time. Whilst the history of this organisation is very vast, most of it is undocumented, and I am currently working on a project to better the organisations website, and I strongly feel that it has a place on Wikipedia - there are certainly less-significant organisations which do tend to survive on Wikipedia.
Wikipedia is an excellent tool where many collaborators can contribute to a page, but this takes some time for people to all jump on and do their bit, so I think pages should not be deleted for lack of evidence unless they have been sitting there for a while. Maybe I should have had more notes or tags at the top of the article stating that it was a bit of a work-in-progress, I don't know, I'm relatively new to this editing thing :) Thanks, Jonathan. Creating Finnish Centre Students
editHi I left this same message to the talk page of the article: Finnish Centre Students is one of the oldest (if not the oldest) political student organisation in Finland and the student wing of one of the major political parties here. A quick look tells that tens or even hundreds of similar organisations have Wikipedia sites. (For instance Association of Christian Democratic Students, Conservative Students (Denmark), AktionsGemeinschaft, Liberal Student Clubs (Romania), Federal Association of Liberal Students Groups, Students' League of the Conservative Party (Norway), Confederation of Swedish Conservative and Liberal Students. Many major Finnish politicians have been members of this organisation. I would defenitely keep it on Wikipedia.--Reskelinen (talk) 19:36, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
What is also a little bit sad that you deleted the article without any notice (or background research), without giving a reason and now it should be written again? Or is it saved somewhere? The organisation, which is behind many Prime Ministers and other major politicians in Finland is defenitely more important than many of the existing political youth organisation or student organisation sites on Wikipedia. I wish you answer me?--Reskelinen (talk) 19:56, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

Year in Wales
editDeb, do you think the year in Wales articles could do with a section that shows the location and dates of events that happen every year. I know we normally place them in the news events, but maybe happenings such as the National Eisteddfod and the Royal Welsh Show could have their own little section so we can find them quicker. Briggs (rapper)
editHi there,
On 10 February 2010, you deleted Briggs (rapper) stating the reason: "A7: No indication that the article may meet guidelines for inclusion."
I have re-created the page. A lot has happened since February 2010 to make Briggs more notable and significant, and therefore not eligible for speedy deletion: aside from releasing a new album which has been widely reviewed and having toured with major names, he was also the subject of a half-hour documentary on Australia's national television broadcaster. I have included extensive content establishing the notability of the subject with extensive references.
In order to further improve the article, I wondered if you could assist in accessing the page as it was prior to deletion. There may be some content and/or references that may be appropriate for inclusion, but there is no way of knowing this without being able to access the pre-deletion history. Please feel free to copy the old page to User:Sroc/Briggs (2010).
Thank you in advance. —sroc (talk) 12:14, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

Thanking you in anticipation,

Grammar!
editHello, Deb. I was initially confused by this edit to Hypercorrection, in which you changed the word likely to probably and left the edit summary "Grammar!" I had not heard of the belief that likely as an adverb is a solecism, so I consulted Merriam Webster's Dictionary of English Usage. According to that volume,
The use of likely as an adverb has drawn some negative comment in the 20th century. Bierce 1909 appears to have been the first to object. Although he finds likely perhaps a better choice than probably in "He will likely be elected," he revises the sentence to make likely an adjective: "He is likely to be elected."
Likely is well established as an adverb in English, but so is probably, except to Ambrose Bierce and some of his followers. MWDEU notes that the usage dates to the 14th century and has always been standard in North America, though it's use in English literature apparently declined during the 19th century. Since either word is acceptable, I see no reason not to let your preferred wording stand. Happy editing, Cnilep (talk) 01:51, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
Happy Thanksgiving!

editIf you believe these day lists need to be more globally focused, the way to do so is to add more names to the list from other locations, not by removing names that you believe to be lesser-known, in your opinion. The idea behind these lists has always been that if a subject is notable enough for an article, they go on the list, the fact that year in music lists do it differently is irrelevant. Of course Wikipedia has something of an American bias, so there will be more western subject articles, hiding them doesn't solve the problem. I suggest you revert yourself and instead attempt to fix the real issue here--Jac16888 Talk 14:32, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

Syntax
editHaha, hi Deb! Erm, I have a question regarding your syntax change. Obviously the word "former" doesn't relate to the nationality, so doesn't it sound strange to your ears if you say out loud "a Czech former tennis player"? It does to mine. A former tennis player. A Czech, who played tennis. A former, Czech, tennis player... "A Czech former tennis player" sounds wrong to me – especially if you replace the word "former" with "retired". I must be wrong... I wrote it, but then I've been living in foreign far too long! PS: Hostáková was born on April 11 Jared Preston (talk) 21:28, 12 December 2012 (UTC)
- Hi. I feel differently from you, although I know what you mean. We use a lot of ungrammatical expressions in speech that we wouldn't use in writing. In the case of ex-Communist countries, it could also be confusing - it could, for example, mean that he was a Czech international player but is now Slovak (or whatever), hence I felt it was a change worth making. Nothing personal, I hasten to add. Deb (talk) 08:47, 13 December 2012 (UTC)

editGood evening Deb,
Good revision of the film. Just want to pick you up on one point.
May I refer you to this post - my copy of one that I made on User talk:Trappist the monk thirteen months ago.
I have had cause to use it several times since when other editors have made the same mistake as Trappist. Indeed I have noticed him using it himself to advise other editors.
Today I have not changed it back as it might appear churlish.

- Thanks for your prompt reply, Deb. I watched the film first, some time during the Autumn of 2011, and then bought the three books. It is always tiresome when filmmakers alter an original story to suit their need for brevity. Obviously you are correct with regard to what this film tells us about the relationship. Even in the novel it becomes a little confusing as Henrik oscillates between greatniece and niece, but of course, to do that is normal family practice, isn't it?
Would you want to edit the "great-uncle" towards the end of the summary?
Sincerely –

Will Streets
editThanks for creating the article on Will Streets. I had a note (off-wiki) back in April 2011 to create an article on John William Streets. It was lucky I searched first and instead I just now created the redirect! Is he really better known as Will Streets? I see that is what he was called in life, but many sites I've checked have a formal entry for him as 'John William Streets' and leave the 'Will Streets' bit to the article itself. Similar to (say) how I handled something similar at Robert J. Parks. Should this be John William "Will" Streets? I know some articles (such as Bill Clinton) use the best-known name as the title, but that isn't always the case. What do you think is best here? Carcharoth (talk) 09:06, 2 January 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for tagging this article for notability back in 2008. It's still tagged; you may want to take it to the Notability noticeboard or AfD to get it resolved. Best wishes, Boleyn (talk) 13:24, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

Commons account problem
editHi Deb, I just noticed your commons account problem on the Bureaucrat's Noticeboard on commons. I went ahead and renamed the existing Deb account on commons. Could you try again to unify your accounts. This should create a new Deb account on commons and allow you to vote (if it is not too late). Wikidata and Interwiki links
editYou are receiving this as you have recently added an interwiki link to a page!
Wikidata has been deployed to the English Wikipedia. Wikidata manages interwiki links on a separate project on pages such as this. This means that on Wikipedia articles there is now a language bar on the left hand side of your screen where you can edit and add links rather than adding them into the articles themselves.
If you have any questions regarding Wikidata please use the talk page Wikipedia talk:Wikidata.

- In monobook there is a 'edit links' button under the language bar (it probably moves a bit for other skins). Clicking this will take you to Wikidata which is where you are meant to add the links :) ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 13:09, 19 February 2013 (UTC)

Awarded for persistence in removing unsourced opinion from article space, despite the risk of having to "explain it to the media". (There's no evidence that William H. Hello Deb, I have left some advice at Promotor's talk page and I'm going to close the AN/I thread you started as no action required. This is a new editor who has got off on the wrong foot and in my humble opinion it was an over-reaction to come to AN/I after such a short editing career. You were right to revert the uncited material and Promotor made some very rash and demeaning comebacks. But the social learning curve on entering WP is immensely steep and established editors like you and me have a duty to bring on good faith new contributors. Your initial reversions were fine and it was good that you went to the article talk. But Promotor has never heard of WP:BRD and probably doesn't even know that articles have talk pages. Cut him/her some slack and see if you can't make a good editor out of him/her by helping with an induction into the social niceties. Thanks! Kim Dent-Brown (Talk) 11:48, 22 February 2013 (UTC)

- I deliberated whether to add anything else to PV's talk page, but decided I would just give a few pointers to why he really doesn't want to carry on going down the road he is, for his own good. I've seen people like this before in other walks of life, people who have been doing things their own way for 30+ years and who are never wrong. You can't reason with them to change their way of thinking, it's too late. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 12:50, 27 February 2013 (UTC)

"Keep" !vote at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Yoga Psychology
editHi Deb,
I've been (for my sins) working my way through the AfD process on about a dozen books by Prabhat Sarkar, and your !keep vote at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Yoga Psychology was the first time I'd seen anyone mention the publication history as contributing towards notability. As best I can tell, this book (and all of Sarkar's other books) were self-published. Can you tell me what caught your eye in terms of the publication history being impressive? Thanks. Garamond Lethet
c 16:45, 1 March 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for replying at the AfD—I appreciate it. Garamond Lethet
c 20:06, 1 March 2013 (UTC)
- Hey, Deb... I appreciate your open-mindedness. Perhaps you will feel more comfortable with your vote - a little less "easily misled" - by knowing that "Yoga Psychology" has also been translated into Malay, Chinese, and, presumably, other languages as well. Similarly, another, much more interesting and valuable book (IMHO) currently nominated for deletion by Garamond Lethe - Yogic Treatments and Natural Remedies - has surely been translated into many more languages, including Chinese and Spanish and most major languages of India (having been originally published in Bengali as "Yaogik Cikitsa"). --Abhidevananda (talk) 20:26, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

Dominic Holland
editHello, Deb. You just edited Dominic Holland article and removed the following section because it's "promotional":
Corporate engagements
editHolland writes speeches for notable celebrities working on the corporate circuit and his clients include sports stars and CEO’s of multinational companies.
Holland works extensively as an after-dinner speaker on engagements throughout the world.[1] As an awards host and cabaret artiste, his show reels are available on web site.
I agree that the last sentence can be seen as promotional. However, the rest are just the facts of the matter describing the activities of this person which is what Wiki article is all about. Will be grateful if you give the reasons behind your decision. Best, AdVal (talk) 20:24, 14 March 2013 (UTC)
Richard III of England reversions
editHi Deb. There was something odd going on here. I was aiming for the Paul Barlow revision just before the vandalism started; however on two separate attempts it failed to revert fully and produced that messy interim version with a chunk missing which then (the first time) caused you to revert me then have to edit out the vandalism once again. I've now edited it back by hand and I hope it's OK. Not being very technical about Wikipedia I absolutely cannot understand what was going on and why I could not successfully revert to a good revision ... however, if it's fixed, then it's fixed! :) Cheers DBaK (talk) 13:14, 15 March 2013 (UTC)
- PS This diff is interesting - it shows the "Although" chunk of text being removed by the vandal - but from the wrong place! In the previous diff, it's where it should be, and has mysteriously moved between diffs. This helps explain why my efforts were doomed, though not how this can happen. :) best wishes DBaK (talk) 13:22, 15 March 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, I made a total pig's ear of that reversion - I should have just gone back to an earlier version! Deb (talk) 13:42, 15 March 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah but no but ... even if you had, you'd have found out, as I did, that the revisions are themselves in some weird mess, or at least one is. It is not just what it says on the tin! So going back to, say, the Paul Barlow one might not have helped. It certainly did get pigs-eared, yes, but actually I think the culprit was a technical issue, not you, me, or really even the vandal, bless their little cotton socks. Cheers DBaK (talk) 13:49, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

Deletion of Callimachus Project article
editHi Deb, You deleted Callimachus_Project for "advertising". I believe this is in error because the Callimachus Project is an Open Source Software project licensed under a very liberal license (the Apache 2 license) and the article was styled after similar projects that are in Category:Software_stubs.
The article was a peer to these other Open Source projects that are similar in scope and licensing. Some of them are supported by a single company, whereas the Callimachus Project has backing from a number of organizations. Please see:
The Callimachus Project is not commercial in the way the following software products are, and yet their articles remain in Wikipedia. They were simply tagged for cleanup instead of being deleted.
I will recreate the page and request that you tag it for any issues that you see. One of us will gladly clean it up. Thanks. Prototypo (talk) 14:05, 27 March 2013 (UTC)

I have a feeling it will be more suited as a WP:HELPNS page similar to Help:WordToWiki when it is done. Thank you. Technical 13 (talk) 17:04, 16 April 2013 (UTC)
Deletion of the Page : Jonathan D Christenbury
editHello Deb, you recently nominated for and were successful in having the page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonathan_D._Christenbury deleted. I understand that you nominated it under G11: unambiguous advertising or promotion. I have to say that I was surprised at this. I wrote the article from a neutral point of view and decided to go back and re-read it after seeing it flagged. I saw nothing in the article to suggest that it fit the following: "Pages that are exclusively promotional, and would need to be fundamentally rewritten to become encyclopedic." Would you please take a look at the page again and re-consider its inclusion in Wikipedia? Thank you for your time. IvanB85 (talk) 18:49, 16 April 2013 (UTC)

editHello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to 1986 in British music may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "[]"s. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave my operator a message on his talk page. Thanks, BracketBot (talk) 19:58, 16 April 2013 (UTC)
Hi there, you recently deleted my page Grey Technology (Gtech) stating that it was promotion/advertising.
I'm a bit of a Wikipedia noob, so forgive me for being a little confused - Gtech are a well-known vacuum manufacture with plenty of media coverage. Its products are available in lots of shops and its just had a big product launch in the US. It's certainly not a small company scrabbling for some promotion - and I thought I'd cited enough references to cover all the points made.
Any guidance you can provide as to how I can make this page acceptable will be very welcome.
Thanks and kind regards,

Deletion of the page: Joshua Walter
editHi Deb,
You recently deleted Joshua Walter saying "No explanation of significance (real person/animal/organization/web content/organized event". Joshua Walter is a Dutch DJ and Producer who is working very hard on his international carreer. Can you please let me know which changes should be made in order to re create the wikipedia page for Joshua Walter? BrandedPR-Anouk (talk) 08:05, 18 April 2013 (UTC)
FuGENE
editI see you deleted FuGENE as "unambiguous advertising or promotion". Could you userfy the page and tell me which part or parts of the article led you to conclude it would need an entire re-write in order not be promotional. Thanks --Pontificalibus (talk) 18:31, 18 April 2013 (UTC)
- ok problem solved, you might want to try using Template:Third-party in similar situations in future. --Pontificalibus (talk)
- Mmm, or the article's creator might think of it for themselves. Deb (talk) 07:21, 19 April 2013 (UTC)
Deb, you deleted Pacinello, a fully operating musical rock group out of NY. This page is vital to their progress. Please undo this. ASAP.
Hi Deb We do not quite understand why our contribution "Lascaux Colours" has been deleted as there apparently exists a special category "Art material brands" and many similar companies such as Joseph Gillot's (pens), Daler-Rowney, Sennelier, Berol, Perry & Co. etc. are listed there. We kindly ask you to give as an explanation. Thanks and regards thespiritofcolours — Preceding unsigned comment added by Spiritofcolours (talk • contribs) 09:34, 18 April 2013 (UTC)
