Sorry, didn't mean to sound negative. Just thought that "copyedit" didn't really describe accurately what you did to the page, but it looks better nonetheless. I thought it was important to keep the Goldbergs ref as it gives us an idea of how far the JL trio would go to build on Bach (ie. not just sprucing up some of the old chestnuts). Dysprosia 00:10, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)
I did it because he's listed at List of famous gay, lesbian or bisexual people; he's also listed at Matt & Andrej Koymasky's website of famous LGBTs. I know nothing about the guy otherwise (I'd never even heard of him before), so if you want to question whether or not he belongs on a list of gay people, you'll need to take it up with Andrej Koymasky or the person who added Fox to the Wikipedia list. But for what it's worth, being gay is something that frequently gets edited out of mainstream biographies of gay people, so never having heard it before doesn't a priori make it wrong. radio show about Wikipedia
Hi Dewet-
My name is Robin Amer and I’m a producer for an American public radio show called Open Source, which you can check out at www.radioopensource.org.
I’m writing you because this week we’re doing a show on Wikipedia including an interview with Jim Wales. We’re also looking for some particularly passionate and interesting Wikipedia users to talk to, especially users outside the US. I would love to talk to you about your involvement with the site. If you are interested, please give me a call at 617-497-8096, or email me at robinamer@riseup.net and send me your phone number.
Thanks so much.

Family trees
No, that's wrong, as you can see from http://www.stirnet.com/HTML/genie/british/hh4aa/haldane02.htm
Robert Haldane (Jr) of Cloan (b 27.01.1805, d 12.06.1877) had issue m1. (20.07.1841) Jane Makgill (d 24.02.1851, dau of John Makgill of Kemback) m2. (27.07.1853) Mary Elizabeth Burdon-Sanderson (b c1825, d 20.05.1925, dau of Richard Burdon-Sanderson of Otterburn Dene and West Jesmond)
- it was this second marriage that led to the Elizabeth Haldane, Richard Burdon Haldane, 1st Viscount Haldane and John Scott Haldane, and hence the Burdon and Sanderson name continuing. Also, Spurway was JBS's second wife. You've spelt Graeme wrong too. I can send a copy to Graeme Mitchison if you like since I emailed him before to try to get my head round this.
And I also think Wm Darwin Fox needs to jump a generation in the Darwin-Wedgwood family as he's really Charles Darwin's age, not his parent's age. It's not easy understanding all this is it? Dunc|☺ 12:03, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Vandalism of History of South Africa in the apartheid era went undetected.
Hi -- I just noticed that some wholesale vandalism of the History of South Africa in the apartheid era a couple of days ago went undetected until today. An anon replaced the entire text of the article with the old text of the Apartheid article, including the bit about "diaspora Jews." Since this seems to have slipped under everyone's radar (including mine), and I don't know who has History of South Africa in the apartheid era on their watchlist, I thought I'd give you a heads up. --Bcrowell 18:27, 30 July 2005 (UTC)

D6Council
The page I suggested for Speedy Delete, describing it as "nasty", seemed like it was critisizing the council, and at the same time made disparaging remarks about people over 65. The first part - only purpose being to attack - made it a speedy candidate. The second part was totally unneccessary and to me seemed nasty. Obina 18:33, 19 January 2006 (UTC)
Kaffir
Indeed, South African Kaffir people may not be not a good name; maybe it should be just "African Kaffir people(s)" or something like that. We can still rename it something else.
But as for the move itself, it was necessary because the olf "Kaffir" article was a sink for too many senses of the word, some of them just meaningless sound coincidences, several of them very charged because of racial or religious connections. Also there were other similarly named articles, with very confusing redirects and many wrong links. I could not see how to clean up that mess without breaking the historic meaning away from the ethnic slur and the other senses.
By the way, I got to that page because I needed to create another article for the Sri Lanka Kaffirs (a fairly well-defined and still extant ethnic group), and coul dnot see how to stick that in the old Kaffir mess.
All the best, Jorge Stolfi 17:22, 21 January 2006 (UTC)

I see that you reverted the article on racism. What you probably don't know is that user 24.39.50.135had vandalised the article twice just in the past hour. Articles you might like to edit, from SuggestBot
SuggestBot predicts that you will enjoy editing some of these articles. Have fun!
SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways, from comparing articles that need work to other articles you've edited, to choosing articles randomly (ensuring that all articles with cleanup tags get a chance to be cleaned up). It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. Your contributions make Wikipedia better -- thanks for helping.
If you have feedback on how to make SuggestBot better, please tell me on SuggestBot's talk page. Thanks from ForteTuba, SuggestBot's caretaker.
P.S. You received these suggestions because your name was listed on the SuggestBot request page. If this was in error, sorry about the confusion. -- SuggestBot 04:03, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
Edit Count
Hi Dewet,
I just keep an eye on wiki count. I notice that you have posted some of SAIX's IP addresses on your user page. I too get effected by the blocks. I find that just by reversing one step back and then go forward again bypasses the block most times as you will be on a different IP. If this does not work, you can contact me at jeromeDOTwestATgmailDOTcom.--Jcw69 17:57, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

Zulu alert
Hi there - thanks for the mention of the edits on the Zulu pages. Unfortunately I don't know much about Zulu history, so the article on the ethnic group is hard to verify. As for the language section - the additions to the grammar section are correct. He/she made two minor mistakes in the other sections but I've corrected them. Shot for the message :) Joziboy 24 March 2006, 17:02 (UTC)
- Hi. I've sorted it out. It all came from the KZN Tourism website, is copyrighted, and was completely (chronologically) misplaced in the article. Funnily enough, I've been using the same content as one of my sources for writing up the history section. Note: The user who put it all there deleted some original content in the process. I think it would be worth watching out for him/her, in case of further vandalism.
- PS: Thanks for all your efforts in fighting off vandalism on the page.-Kieran 20:02, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

WayneRay 00:17, 2 April 2006 (UTC)WayneRay I have reverted the dead links back to showing BUT I feel that is there is no article there should be no link. Also there are no dates with the poets, it also tells me that anyone can make up a name if there is a dead link.
Beer Categories
It has been suggested by User:BrianSmithson that the Beer and brewery categories should be renamed. The proposal has been supported by User:Syrthiss, and supported and expanded by myself. The notion is that the regional categories should follow the format of "Beer and breweries in Africa" /Europe/Asia/North America/South America/Oceania. "Brewers and breweries" could also be renamed "Beer and breweries by region". And all the countries should also be renamed (and merged if needed) as, for example, "Beer and breweries of Germany", "Beer and breweries of Britain", "Beer and breweries of Poland". The word in each case would be beer rather than beers to allow for general articles on beer culture in each region as well as individual beers.

Afrikaans name for Stellenbosch University?
Hi Dewet. I see you changed the Afrikaans name for Stellenbosch University to add "van". When I added the Afrikaans name to that article I based it on http://www.sun.ac.za; it would appear from the site that the university's Afrikaans name for itself is "Universiteit Stellenbosch". I do note, however, that the article on af.wikipedia is under "Universiteit van Stellenbosch". I'm just wondering, isn't the convention that we generally name institutions according to the names they use for themselves? - htonl 15:42, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
- Baie dankie. My Afrikaans isn't great, so I didn't know what the position was grammatically about the properness of the "van". - htonl 19:01, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

Dankie.
And in English, so that others would be able understand as well - I am not going to edit after it is explained why that particular edit is not good, or some better solution is found - I don't edit the article on KZN anymore as I think the introduction of the current version is more or less acceptable. Diamond - Gemological characteristics
Hi Dewet, why do you have to remove these sentences below from [[4]]?
Hoge Raad voor Diamant (HRD) is a generally respected laboratory, this laboratory is located in Antwerp (Belgium).
International Gemmological Institute (IGI) is a generally respected laboratory.
European Gemological Laboratory (EGL) has a similar reputation to the IGL. Be careful: there is not one EGL but several EGL throughout the world and all these laboratories do not have the same reputation.
Do you know the reputation of the EGL laboratory in Antwerp (Belgium)? The diamonds certified by the EGL (Antwerp) much less expensive than the same diamonds certified by the GIA or the HRD, it is strange not? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.194.238.185 (talk • contribs)
