Hobby Lobby

Hi there, Discospinster. I see that you fended off an IP on the Hobby Lobby article last week, during the edit war extending from the company's appearance in the news. Late last week, I was contacted (and subsequently retained) by a PR firm working for the company, and I agreed to look at a complaint they had with the section about the recent controversy, currently titled Accusations of anti-Semitism.

Now that I've looked at it closely, I think they are correct to be concerned; it seems like a case of WP:SCANDAL-mongering with a WP:LABEL-ing issue to go along with it. In hopes of addressing the matter to the satisfaction of Wikipedia and Hobby Lobby both, I've suggested an alternative version (on article Talk here), which I believe I should not add myself on account of my financial COI. Would you be willing to look at the issue and exercise your judgment? Cheers, WWB Too (Talk · COI) 23:57, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I've commented on the talk page. ... discospinster talk 00:09, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
Likewise, thank you for the speedy reply. Between yourself and Jasper Deng, it seems like there's emerging consensus to update the section. Assuming there's no substantial disagreement forthcoming, how long would you want to wait to implement the changes? WWB Too (Talk · COI) 13:08, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
I see that User:DragonflySixtyseven has already made the change, so it should be OK now. ... discospinster talk 13:56, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
You're right—I guess that happened right before I posted with you, plus Dragonfly is a tad stingy with Talk page replies, so I hadn't noticed. BTW, I've got one point of clarification based on further changes, but I'll be asking with Dragonfly about that momentarily. Best, WWB Too (Talk · COI) 23:30, 8 October 2013 (UTC)

Johnny Khamis purposed page delete

Though Johnny Khamis, local politician, does not yet have significant press outside the San Francisco Bay Area (7 million people), he is the 1st Arab-American to take the office of council member in San Jose, and only 1 of 11 Elected Officials in California, which has a population of roughly 275,000 Arab-Americans. Council member Khamis has just returned from Washington DC and is also traveling to San Jose's sister city Dublin, IRE., with mayor Chuck Reed. Having a page on Wiki for Council member Khamis would be beneficial for those looking for quick links and information about him as he travels and represents Arab-Americans. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mike6508623114 (talkcontribs) 15:25, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

Discussion at Augusto Pinochet

I wonder if you could look at the last discussion about Augusto Pinochet. Someboby wrote a POV, and I asked it to be removed (not contributing to any discussion). After that a user User talk:Cgx8253 has erased my post (where I ask someone to remove the POV). When I asked the user to not erase like that on the above linked usertalk an Ip-number erased my post there too. Am I doing wrong here, or what is happening? Best regards, Adville (talk) 22:18, 10 October 2013 (UTC)

Your comment should not have been removed, and I don't know why it was. Perhaps the editors thought they were removing the other (POV) comment? ... discospinster talk 00:28, 11 October 2013 (UTC)

Could you look at user cgx8253. I tell him not to erase his discussion page, which you may not do on Swedish speaking wikipedia (is it the same here?), but he continious to erase it. Best regards, Adville (talk) 15:02, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
Well there's no policy in the English Wikipedia against erasing (as opposed to altering) others' comments on one's own talk page, with certain exceptions (see WP:BLANKING). The content is still available via the talk page history, so it doesn't actually go away. ... discospinster talk 16:01, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
Ok, not like in svwp, were we have same rules for article and user discussions, so that everyone will be able to follow a discussion! It's on the talk page, so it's not as much of a disruption as it would have been in the article itself. I hope the suggestion I made regarding reliable sources will avoid the user adding such opinions to the article. ... discospinster talk 17:02, 14 October 2013 (UTC)

Clan Guthrie - Article re-write

Hi, I noticed you have reverted edits by a certain user on the Clan Guthrie article to the version that I last wrote. Thank you for this but the user has continued to revert. My reasoning is that the original article was using bare URL's as references. I reformatted the references to the required Wikipedia standards. Just using a bare web address is not acceptable. Most of the information in the history section remains the same as before but with a published book source as reference rather than unreliable websites. There has been discussion in the past that lists of famous people bearing the clan surname are not supposed to be used in clan articles unless they are directly connected with the clan - they are supposed to go on the surname disambiguation page such as here: Guthrie. The version of the article that I have written is far more accurately sourced and meets Wikipedia standards, the previous version did not.QuintusPetillius (talk) 09:45, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

PC World

Hi

I was a General Manager for the group running both Currys and PC World stores for 10 years. Nothing contained in any of the articles I have contributed to the PC World page is incorrect, exaggerated or libellous. People need to know the truth behind how the stores are run and the pressure the staff are under to sell warranty products. There is a lot of information in the press regarding the poor practices undertaken by PCW and I am simply contributing to it. I could refer to Watchdog's recent TV article which shows actual examples of miss-selling in action. My contributions to the site support and explain the evidence the TV program uncovered.

Talk:Francis Bacon

Dear Sir Madam, Having read the Francis Bacon article I wanted to correct British description my comments are below -which you deleted from the talk page , I thought I would have an orderly discussion and not an outright deletion -there is nothing in what I have written that is not true. Please see Pablo Picasso's page he was born in Spain and lived the great majority of his life in France he has never been described as French, similar to Bacon- I think wikipedia should reflect facts and not opinion.

On the issue of the description of Bacon as "Irish born, British figurative painter" this has been a subject of dispute among a number of user/editors of Wikipedia, clearly the talk page requests users to be objective and report Facts supported by evidence in adhering to this principle the description "Irish born" is entirely appropriate back up by historical evidence of the Irish National census of 1911 (please see link http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai002575018/) .There is clearly a bias against describing Bacon as Irish as his nationality and forcefully purporting him to be a "British painter" due to his parents nationality they are described as "English" yes his mother was born in England but his father was born in Australia -as can be seen again the census 1911 enumerators abstract. In reporting these facts I would request the Lede be changed to reflect facts "Francis Bacon was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1909" etc, and delete the British description. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Haseoffergeld (talk • contribs) 01:52, 29 October 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Haseoffergeld (talkcontribs)

Please see Francis Bacon (Edit History) you have reverted my change from British to Irish- You should supply evidence that Bacon was British before you edit , I have supplied a census as evidence available online to support the change- its very odd to describe someone as "Irish born British painter" yes bacon lived in Britain but he also live in various parts of Europe - you should look at Pablo Picasso's page he lived the majority of his life in France but was born in Spain and has all ways been described as Spanish . When editing we must be objective and report only Facts. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Haseoffergeld (talkcontribs) 01:24, 30 October 2013 (UTC)

User:Haseoffergeld

Hi Discospinster, You blocked this account once before for edit warring [4]. Their sole, continuing purpose is to change nationality at Francis Bacon (artist) in the face of a consensus that other editors (not myself) established after lengthy discourse. I've reported this as vandalism, and been advised to take this to dispute resolution, but I don't think that's the path for dealing with a disruptive WP:SPA. Thanks for any assistance you can give, JNW (talk) 02:06, 1 November 2013 (UTC)

It seems like a dispute resolution may be the way to go, to try to get more input on the issue. There are comments on the talk page by other editors that express the same concern with the Irish/British description (e.g. Talk:Francis Bacon (artist)#"Irish born British"). Let me know if you need some help with it. ... discospinster talk 02:17, 1 November 2013 (UTC)
My take is that that discussion effectively ignored the previous consensus, which was closed after a thorough and lengthy engagement [5]. In other words, every time someone decides they don't like the description that was arrived at through a deliberate process, this is reignited. Thank you, but if dispute resolution is now necessary, then talk page consensus in this or any case would appear meaningless. JNW (talk) 02:32, 1 November 2013 (UTC)

While you may not agree with the information I supplied, I don't believe what I have contributed poses any threat to the reputation of Wikipedia or Joe Rogan, nor threatens his career in any way. Quite the contrary, I believe that the information I contributed will actually enhance his career and reputation. So, I think the guy owes me a debt of gratitude. And besides, can you actually PROVE that Joe Rogan ISN'T a werewolf? I thought not.69.117.121.49 (talk) 07:23, 13 November 2013 (UTC)

(Pardon the interruption.) Permission per the podcast... That sure sounds like a reason to semi-protect the article for a while to me. —C.Fred (talk) 18:37, 13 November 2013 (UTC)

I've raised that IP for blocking at Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism so hopefully they should stop adding rubbish soon. Thought you'd like to know! Samwalton9 (talk) 02:31, 17 November 2013 (UTC)

Hindustan Times -> Times of India ?

I assume you meant Times of India here or was there another suspicious reference being used that I missed? Abecedare (talk) 03:11, 17 November 2013 (UTC)

You are correct, thanks. I was thinking of the source in the associated article Trendy Beat Records. ... discospinster talk 03:14, 17 November 2013 (UTC)
Seconded your prod there. Could even be a case of outright hoax that can be speedied. Worth keeping an eye on the editor too. Abecedare (talk) 03:20, 17 November 2013 (UTC)

G'day Mate,

I put up some info for Schindler's list but it is not summarised so it contains plagiarism and is not refernced. If you wish to leave it up fine by me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.30.109.84 (talk) 03:18, 20 November 2013 (UTC)

Deleted page

Hi Discospinster,

Thanks for the welcome mail. I noticed that one of the new pages I created was deleted for the reason (A7: Article about a company, corporation or organization, which does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject). As I can see you didn't request the delete of the page but I like you to give me advice on how to improve it and resubmit it, as it's of cause disappointing to spend time contributing if it isn't going to be used in the end.

As I understand it I need to contact the administrator who requested the deletion of the page before resubmitting. But before I do that I like to do a new draft in my sandbox that can be reviewed. My question is how can I get back the original version of the page. Is it correct to use requests for undeletion in order to get the original content back so I can do a new draft in my sandbox or should I go about it differently.

Once again thanks for welcoming me to wikipedia.

Best, Willy.pucat (talk) 08:55, 22 November 2013 (UTC)

I have restored the article to your userspace at User:Willy.pucat/Birdback. The article should indicate how the company is notable by Wikipedia's criteria — see WP:GNG and WP:ORG for guidance. Basically there should be multiple reliable sources that discuss the company in a significant way (i.e. not just a trivial mention). ... discospinster talk 18:54, 22 November 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for the help. I created an AfC here following the guidelines you also pointed out. Willy.pucat (talk) 10:31, 23 November 2013 (UTC)

Big enough?

What do you mean third party?

URl has been feautred on Worldstar,Youtube,Vibe magazine,Ciroc and revolt sponsors their events, rap genius and much more.

it is impossible that Dont Flop and KOTD have a third part and url dosent!

(Bigzero0123 (talk) 23:23, 25 November 2013 (UTC)).

Third party refers to sources not associated with URLTV. Don't Flop has many references listed and so does King of the Dot. Such sources need to be added to the article, not on talk pages. ... discospinster talk 23:27, 25 November 2013 (UTC)

Is this big enough?

Loaded Lux performance landed him a spot on howard stern show, he was mentioned by jay-z,drake,kanye,pusha t and much more.

(Bigzero0123 (talk) 23:29, 25 November 2013 (UTC)).

So i put in some links and they got deleted!

Why are yall doing this?

i dont know how to use this Bullshit!

i gave yall refrences and they all got deleted!!!

(Bigzero0123 (talk) 23:34, 25 November 2013 (UTC)).

The sources you added were for URLTV's own Twitter and You Tube pages, which are not third party. One option would be to work on the article in your user space, so it won't get messed with. (For example, at User:Bigzero0123/URLTV.) ... discospinster talk 23:37, 25 November 2013 (UTC)

How did you notice my edits?

So, how did you notice all those edits and image resizes I made? Was it flagged by something?Jamal Ahmed GM (talk) 20:05, 26 November 2013 (UTC)

I keep track of all new edits. ... discospinster talk 20:06, 26 November 2013 (UTC)
So, there many CVU people who only track new user's contribs. But, isn't that unfair to new users who are just getting started? Let me guess, you get off that list when you get autoconfirmed?Jamal Ahmed GM (talk) 20:09, 26 November 2013 (UTC)
No, it's all the edits. ... discospinster talk 20:10, 26 November 2013 (UTC)
By now you may be thinking "Why does this new editor know so much?", well, I am a former member of the CVU that left around 2013 May. I lost my old account, but thought why not make a new account playing a sneaky person who does image re-sizes. Don't worry, I'll stop! BTW: Don't start an SPI, my previous account was all too trusted, even if you do figure it out, not many will believe you.Jamal Ahmed GM (talk) 20:14, 26 November 2013 (UTC)
Well, you've proved your point, whatever it was. ... discospinster talk 20:15, 26 November 2013 (UTC)

Don't even try that, I was a part of CVU before, I know it is exhausting and pointless tracking every single edit in RC patrol. The best ones to track are new editors contribs or IP contribs.Jamal Ahmed GM (talk) 20:16, 26 November 2013 (UTC)

So, now will you welcome me back to CVU, or do I need to prove how experienced I am? Don't worry, you wont be seeing any more vandalism from me. I was responsible for getting countless vandals blocked. Don't want to be on the receiving end!Jamal Ahmed GM (talk) 20:19, 26 November 2013 (UTC)
I suppose you can just go ahead and remove vandalism if you want to. ... discospinster talk 20:20, 26 November 2013 (UTC)
I need Huggle and Igloo, if you need any proof of experience please fell free to tell me.Jamal Ahmed GM (talk) 20:23, 26 November 2013 (UTC)
I'm not sure what you want from me; if you need rollback rights you can request them at Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Rollback. ... discospinster talk 20:25, 26 November 2013 (UTC)

LOL, they'll never grant it, instead they'll probably start a random SPI (and fail). I have too little experience.Jamal Ahmed GM (talk) 20:31, 26 November 2013 (UTC)

concerning edits from 31.185.185.200

I'm watching this IP too, and I think it would be appropriate to slap him a level 4 warning. After that -> report to admin. That's better than starting a edit war. Stormmeteo (talk) 20:26, 26 November 2013 (UTC)

Well I've done a level 1 warning and also noted the copyright infringement, so we'll see what happens. ... discospinster talk 20:31, 26 November 2013 (UTC)
I've reverted the article back for good a couple minutes ago (after some discussion with the IP), no further protest from the IP so far. At the end it wasn't promotional anymore, but still had copyright issues (copied from the website and then pasted). IP didn't fix it. Stormmeteo (talk) 21:56, 26 November 2013 (UTC)
I was wrong, content was again copied from the website and then pasted. I'm not inclined to keep on reverting, this would end in an edit war. Stormmeteo (talk) 22:27, 26 November 2013 (UTC)

Re: Capsicum edit

November 2013[edit]

Hello, I'm Discospinster. I noticed that you recently removed some content from Capsicum, with this edit, without explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. ... discospinster talk 00:12, 27 November 2013 (UTC)

I'm really sorry on behalf of all the people in the Philippines who are using this IP address (Smart WiMAX powered by PLDT Home). Our Internet Service Providers here in the Philippines are limited to using this kind of technology due to our being a 3rd world country and not having updated technology to fuel our needs. This is one of the few reasons why Cyber Crimes are still rampant in our country (because alot of people with access to the internet often go untraced). Again, I do apologize for this rude and idiotic EDIT that one of my countrymen made — Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.60.156.220 (talk) 06:17, 27 November 2013 (UTC)

Chess.com

Hi, I noticed you tagged that Chess.com article. It has been deleted before, maybe more than once. It has no reliable sources. Would you consider nominating it for Articles for Deletion perhaps? Thank you. Perrier Tyson (talk) 00:00, 30 November 2013 (UTC)

It was deleted before via AfD, but the new version does have a link to a CNET video, so there is some notability claimed (whether or not it's enough is a different story). You are welcome to nominate it a second time if you feel that it's not up to par. ... discospinster talk 03:40, 30 November 2013 (UTC)
