Question from Obong Ime Solomon (14:00, 7 April 2023)

How do I add my company profile to Wikipedia? And how do I also add my profile to Wikipedia? --Obong Ime Solomon (talk) 14:00, 7 April 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Obong Ime Solomon:
If you wish to write about your company, the first thing you need to do is declare your conflict of interest (COI) in the subject. (I will post a message on your talk page with more information.) Then, you have to remember that you are not allowed to publish an article about a subject that you have a COI in; you must instead go through the AfC review process. (You can find everything you need here: WP:YFA.) Having said all of which, it is not a good idea to write about your own business, as it is highly unlikely to be accepted.
As for writing an article about yourself, the the same applies, except that you are very strongly advised against even attempting it. For all the reasons why that is, please see WP:AUTOBIO.
Finally, it's worth noting here that Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, not a social media or blogging platform, and there is no automatic entitlement to have your or your company's 'profile' included here. Every topic must be deemed notable, meaning that significant coverage about it must exist in multiple independent and reliable secondary sources such as newspapers, TV programmes, books, etc. Without such sources, you cannot even begin to write an article.

Thank you for reviewing my article. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Martha_Mooke Can you suggest how to include a compositions/works list/discography without violating copyright? In reviewing similar lists for other artists, several appear to either not include citations or cite the artist's personal webpage, so I'm unclear hwo to get around the issue if simply listing works is unacceptable. Thanks for any help you can provide!

Beffgus (talk) 17:04, 10 April 2023 (UTC)

@Beffgus: you should never copypaste content from anywhere. I know that things like lists of publications etc. can be tricky, because there's only so many ways you can write the titles, authors, etc., but even then, you shouldn't wholesale copypaste anything.
If you have found other articles which violate copyright rules, feel free to tag them accordingly. Thank you. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 17:29, 10 April 2023 (UTC)

Draft:The art of halqa

Hello, Thank you for checking out my article.

As I'm a new contributer on en Wikipedia, I might have some difficulties. My article (Draft:Ḥalqa - Wikipedia) was moved back to draft because it was confused with another topic. in fact, this article is about the Moroccan immaterial heritage called al-halqa (a moroccan dialect word) which means: circle of a popular theater.

According to your remark, I found that there is a confusion between this subject and another religious subject which has a similar word in Arabic. My subject is Halqa, and the other subject is Halaqa (circle of an Islamic course) which are not at all similar in meaning and interests.

The subject of my article is Halqa, it is part of the traditional arts of Morocco, and as I mentioned it is a Moroccan intangible heritage.

I would like to ask you what should I do in this case?

Thank you very much. Siham Elmallas (talk) 11:21, 13 April 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Siham Elmallas: I'm not knowledgeable enough about the subject to say whether Ḥalqa and Halaqa are related and similar enough to be covered in the same article, or different enough to warrant separate articles; I was just suggesting the former as a possibility, because the Halaqa article is what comes up when you search for Ḥalqa.
I can think of two possible ways forward:
  1. You could start a discussion at Talk:Halaqa, aimed at reaching consensus with community members on the best approach. –and/or–
  2. You could could ask at Wikipedia:WikiProject Morocco (or maybe Wikipedia:WikiProject Arab world, although that one doesn't seem to be very active) where users with an interest in this subject matter may be able to point you in the right direction, or even edit the draft together with you.
Other than that, if you wish to resubmit the draft, let me know and I can remove my earlier decline, and you can then wait for another reviewer to take a look at it. Best, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 11:36, 13 April 2023 (UTC)
Hello @DoubleGrazing. As one of the editors of the article, I must agree with @Siham Elmallas: in the modern era, these are two different concepts completely, despite being very close in pronunciation and splling and sharing etymology (the term originally means "circle" or "ring"), as well as the basic concept (people gathering). Halaqa has a purely religious concept that involves an imam or someone of similar status doing a sermon or sharing his/her religious knowledge with a group of people. This is usually done in a mosque or in a closed private space. It is also found in all Islamic countries and communities around the world. "Halqa" on the other hand, within the context of Moroccan culture (and broadly North African culture), is usually an open space gathering for storytelling, or other folkloric display, led by a person called "hlayqi". It has no religious connotation whatsoever. A hlayqi cannot be, or is rarely an imam or a religious leader (at least not in this context), and it would certainly be considered insulting to call an imam leading a Halaqa, with the term "hlayqi", emphasizing the distinction and the wide separation between these two concepts in people's minds. So to summarize:
  • Halaqa: strictly religious preaching/teaching, usually in closed space, found in all the Islamic world. Sources: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7
  • Halqa: folkloric storytelling and mostly not religious if at all, usually in open spaces such as street markets and public squares, found mainly in Morocco and possibly in other North African countries. Sources: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7
The term seems to have had other historical usages, such as in Ayyubid and Mamluk Egypt to denote a cavalry: 1, 2.
All in all, I think both articles have notability and should remain separate, and we may also need a disambiguation page. Ideophagous (talk) 18:34, 17 April 2023 (UTC)

Request on 15:59:44, 13 April 2023 for assistance on AfC submission by Plutoheart

Hello, I need someone to tell me if the corrections I have made on the article I'm writing meet the criteria for being published. Can someone help me with that?

thank you,

Plutoheart (talk) 15:59, 13 April 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Plutoheart: you'll get a full review when you resubmit, but on a quick glance I can tell you that this wouldn't be accepted, as it stands.
Firstly, a couple of the sections seem to have been copied from external sources. You must write everything in your own words.
Secondly, the sources aren't enough to establish the notability of the subject, according to the WP:GNG notability guideline. We need to see significant coverage in multiple independent and reliable secondary sources.
Thirdly, most of the content is unreferenced, begging the question where is it all coming from?
I also meant to post a message on your talk page about any conflict of interest (COI) you may have with regards to this business, but I forgot; I'll do that now, and would appreciate if you could respond to it before any further editing. Thanks, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 16:07, 13 April 2023 (UTC)
Thank you for your comments. I have written it in my own words. That's how I write. I shouldn't have any COI as I don't work for the firm, but I have been hired to write the page.
I'm confused as to how it is unreferenced. The previous reviewer listed trade journals as not applicable, but as they are architects, their work will mostly be discussed in architectural magazines. Perhaps I am misunderstanding this? Plutoheart (talk) 16:14, 13 April 2023 (UTC)
@Plutoheart: if, as you say, you have been hired to write this, then you most certainly do have a COI, and a very particular kind, namely 'paid editing'. I will post another message to your talk page, and this time you must respond to it before you do anything else.
As for the copyvio, if you look at this report, it seems that the 'Art Preserve' and 'ADU' sections are at the very least closely paraphrased. I will delete those now, and ask that you rewrite them genuinely in your own words. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 16:18, 13 April 2023 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Draft:John Pork

Hello DoubleGrazing, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Draft:John Pork, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Not blatantly vandalism or a hoax. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 17:26, 13 April 2023 (UTC)

Okay, no worries @Ivanvector; worth a try. I just have a feeling a few users are gaming the system with this John Pork malarkey, and doing it pretty cleverly, too. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 17:30, 13 April 2023 (UTC)

Canadian English Rejection

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_English

Hi DoubleGrazing, for my university final with Dr. Stefan Dollinger (who's work is featured in the linked article) we were assigned to add comments about Canadian Regionalisms to the Canadian English article and we will fail if he does not see our work on that page by this morning. I do not wish you to help me do my schoolwork but what can my group do so that you will keep the content up on the article? I see that you're interested in Finland, I am from Kirkkonummi (suburb outside of Helsinki) and I would be more than happy to exchange knowledge with you.

Thank you so much and I am so sorry if bothering, I have never used Wikipedia like this before, therefore I unaware of any standards.

Maija-Emily Laine 2604:3D09:67D:650:68B1:6C3C:80B9:C0E3 (talk) 11:45, 14 April 2023 (UTC)

Hi Maija-Emily,
Thanks for your message, but I have to say I'm not at all clear on what you're asking from me. I have no involvement in the Canadian English article. (I do note that it is semi-protected, meaning you need to have a confirmed user account to edit it, but there's nothing I can do about that.)
I did this morning decline a draft by WoodBison1905, Draft:Regional variation in Canadian English vocabulary, on the basis that I thought the information should go to the existing Canadian English article instead, where the subject is already covered. Does that have anything to do with why you're contacting me?
Incidentally, that wasn't a rejection, it was just a decline (meaning the draft can be resubmitted for another review), and I'm happy to even revert that, if it helps.
Finally, as an aside (and I realise this doesn't help you with your coursework deadline in the slightest), I think it is wholly unreasonable of your prof to require you to edit Wikipedia, especially when things like page protection, or for that matter whether an article draft gets accepted and if so when, are completely outside your control. They should really know better.
In short, I'm not sure what I can do to help?
Best, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 12:11, 14 April 2023 (UTC)
PS: I know Kirkkonummi, I did my military service in Upinniemi, in the illustrious Finnish Navy! :) -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 12:15, 14 April 2023 (UTC)

Draft:Mahalakshmi Pavani

Hi @DoubleGrazing,

I had to share it for review, because the early reviewers of the article have kept me waiting. The first reviewer @Usedtobecool, didn't approve stating that someone else will review it, Attaching a screenshot of the discussion(https://ibb.co/ChJjxJY) and the others that follow just passed it over. I wrote this almost 8 months back. and after making revisions as per the first moderator, none of the reviewers bothered to review and help me with the changes as deemed necessary. I wrote this article out of interest and thorough due-deligence. Hope you would provide me the necessary assistance Raghav1788 (talk) 09:39, 15 April 2023 (UTC)

@Raghav1788: sorry, but I don't think you're being entirely truthful. It's not the case that you've been waiting for eight months and nobody "bothered to review". This has been declined in Sept-22, and then rejected the following month. Rejection is normally the end of the road, but those reviews were removed (although it clearly says in the AfC templates that you shouldn't) to hide the review history. I restored the history, and it has since been removed again; that is bordering on disruptive editing.
Meanwhile, you haven't disclosed any conflict of interest (COI) you may have in this subject, although you were requested to do that already nine months ago.
So, given all that, what is the 'necessary assistance' you are asking for? -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 09:50, 15 April 2023 (UTC)

Please don't spoiled or deleted my Articles

I recognize your English is better than me, you should not be like other administrators who are consumed by alcohol (Liquor) and LGBT supporters who blindly spoiled until deleted articles made by other people's, their work isn't appreciated by Wikipedia administrators and they are like hackers.

Article refs on the Inpatient Press article draft

Hello. I've made some changes to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Inpatient_Press in response to your feedback. However I do think that the Japan Times article falls under the GNG criteria. It is more than just a routine announcement or review of a book. It includes independent coverage of the press in of itself, including a paragraph on Anzuoni and quotes from them regarding their publishing philosophy. Orlando calabasas (talk) 20:13, 16 April 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Orlando calabasas: I've had another look at the Japan Times piece, and I still don't think it provides significant enough coverage to count towards GNG.
There is only one short paragraph which directly addresses the subject:

Inpatient Press, based in Brooklyn, New York, is run by Mitch Anzuoni, who describes himself as the “executive janitor” of the independent publisher. It is the perfect home for Machida’s work.

The penultimate paragraph arguably also talks about it, but in a rather oblique manner as it is more about the founder than the publishing company per se:

“Mitch was on board immediately,” Joseph says. “Publishers often balk at novellas, not to mention bizarre and experimental ones, but these were all selling points in his eyes. He’s a true custodian of literature for its own sake.”

Even if you count both paragraphs, I'd say that's borderline at best.
And even if you count this as a GNG source, that still makes only two, so we need at least one other solid one, and preferably more. Best, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 07:59, 17 April 2023 (UTC)

@Hooyari: yes, you have resubmitted the draft, but no, it isn't under review as nobody has started reviewing it yet. There are nearly 4,000 drafts awaiting review, and they don't get reviewed in any particular order. Please be patient and continue to wait, it could take days, weeks or even months. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 16:42, 17 April 2023 (UTC)

Hello Sir,

Thanks for your detailed remarks. I removed additional details related to the topic that maybe sound ambiguous, thank you for letting me know. after removal of some content previously i added references from government websites as well that indicates they are reliable. please allow me to clean the article its worth doing rather deleting. i can see the impact how many people are visiting this page after it was published. it will be a great addition to this related domain scope of topic. im not english native so this can be fix rather than deleting at large. please hold on i need this article to make improvements. User:Dr_Cit/sandbox

Hi. Could you help in improving the page? Dr Cit (talk) 09:26, 23 April 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Dr Cit: your primary objective must be to show that the subject (yourself?) is notable. This can be done in one of two ways. Either per WP:GNG, you cite multiple independent and reliable secondary sources which provide significant coverage of the subject. Or per WP:NACADEMIC, you show (supported by reliable sources) that the subject meets one or more of the criteria 1-8 listed in that guideline. Either way, you need to start by finding sources, because without them there can never be an article. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 09:33, 23 April 2023 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Yasser Al-Dosari

Hello DoubleGrazing. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Yasser Al-Dosari, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Article makes several credible claims of significance and is not unambiguously promotional. Copied text appears to be from a CC BY-SA source but will investigate further. Thank you. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 13:24, 25 April 2023 (UTC)

Thanks @Ivanvector.
I saw that the possibly-copyvio content appears on a number of sources, and at least one of them is CC, but at the same time another explicitly claimed © but I wasn't sure which is the original source or which otherwise takes priority, so I flagged it just to be safe.
BTW, you left the salt tag on the article; was that intentional? -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 13:42, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
I left it for now, but I'll come back to it. I'm working on the SPI now. If it turns out to be G5 eligible then I'll just delete it, otherwise I'll look into the copyright. That exact text pops up in a bunch of places, which to me suggests this new editor is working from ad copy they've been supplied. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 13:51, 25 April 2023 (UTC)

Acqua Lete Draft

Hello, I'm the creator of Acqua Lete draft page. I already found information for it, and initially thought the page passes WP:NCOMPANY, but don't know what needs to be improved or which part should I add on the page and translate.

I don't know if those are reliable sources; we really need some attention from users who can actually read Italian. CuteDolphin712 (talk) 12:45, 26 April 2023 (UTC)

Hi, the sources you've listed here are just routine business reporting on sponsorship deals, and as such do not contribute towards notability. Nor does the draft cite sufficient sources that would meet the WP:GNG standard. For that, we need to see multiple independent and reliable secondary sources, providing significant coverage of the subject. This excludes any and all coverage based on publicity materials, sponsored content, 'churnalism', as well as routine business reporting. Best, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 12:57, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
