Speedy deletion nomination of Journal of the Anthropological Society of Oxford

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Journal of the Anthropological Society of Oxford requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.   Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button (  or  ) located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Invite to the African Destubathon

edit

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most geography, wildlife and women articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing, whether it's a river in Malawi, a Nigerian footballer, or a South African civil rights activist, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. For those of you who signed up to the North African contest, that will hopefully be held in the new year. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:11, 6 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Joseph Chila

edit

Your Draft:Joseph Chila is most interesting, but are you perhaps related to Chila or VIMS (one of the sources for this draft)?

Incidentally, if I were to review the draft now, I'd have to decline it. But I note that it says that Chia's work "was discussed in the publication that accompanied the show: Joseph Chila and Samuel Finlak: Two Portrait Photographers in Cameroon." I imagine that you have access to a copy; could you not summarize some of what it says for this draft, and do more of saying which bit of information comes from which source? -- Hoary (talk) 05:23, 16 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

[Replying to this:] Thank you for your fast and candid response. And now, it's alphabet soup time. Please read WP:PSCOI and WP:SELFCITE. Note that the former asks you to go and take a look at WP:DCOI ("decoy"?). Please do this. I am about to mark the draft with a "COI" template. This unattractive template will stay on the draft for some time; however, if all goes well, it won't stay there forever, and eventually there should be a good little article about Chila. -- Hoary (talk) 09:04, 16 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Ok much appreciated. BTW after visting your talk page Ive had a look at the Tikar page and agree it needs a LOT of work. But its become deeply controversial which makes it diffcult to know quite what to do. The work of various academics is being cited but they do not really support the claims being made. I will discuss with a colleague Dz3 (talk) 11:47, 17 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
sorry @Dz3 I was not aware of that and it was not mentioned any where. Normally the article talk should be where this documented.
Other thing to note that generally autobiographies are strongly discouraged, see Wikipedia:Autobiography#Creating an article about yourself. I am more included to remove the article all together, but I will respect @Tesleemah opinion on the quality of the article and its suitability while leaving it tagged to notify readers that the entry is an autobiography.
Thanks again for contribution to Wikipedia @Dz3. I have genuinely enjoyed reading your entries around visual anthropology. FuzzyMagma (talk) 11:04, 17 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
