Re the Hayters

edit

I recommend you read particularly Wikipedia:Verifiability and Wikipedia:No original research. Unpublished and/novel insider information is not viewed as authoritative. If you have information on the family history that is published in reliable third-party sources, fine. But if not, the ODNB (which says of Stanley William Hayter, "Among his many artist ancestors was Sir George Hayter") and the Times obit (which says he was descended from Sir George's brother John) have to be viewed as acceptable sources, even though they conflict. And even if you do have published material refuting these, they're still of sufficient credentials that they'd have to go alongside whatever else you may bring to the table. Image source problem with Image:T-bazaine.jpg

edit

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:T-bazaine.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 15:40, 8 October 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Thanks for uploading Image:Marshal Bazaine with his personal staff officers in 1870.jpg. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:Marshal Bazaine with his generals in Mexico 1866.jpg. The copy called Image:Marshal Bazaine with his generals in Mexico 1866.jpg has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.

This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and refer to 'my contributions' to remind yourself exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions about this notice, or feel that the deletion is inappropriate, please contact User:Staecker, who operates the robot account. Staeckerbot 00:00, 12 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Many thanks for adding the information on Hayter and Jean Bazaine. I find your personal contact with Bazaine most enviable. His paintings and stained glass will always inspire me.

Principal Painter in Ordinary

edit

You will see I have refactored your category introduction as an article, which is the way to treat so much information. NB it is PrincipAL. Please correct the templates. The category should be renamed per the article, with correct spelling and no "King/Queen". Johnbod (talk) 19:40, 28 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

John, thanks for your help - I realised my mistake on the spelling of Principal after I had created the category page (my first). How do I now go back and change the Category title? (EHayter (talk) 10:55, 30 October 2008 (UTC))Reply

I would set a new one up with the same name as the article - King etc begs the question "Of where?" & is not part of the title really. If you then empty the old one & add {X{db-author}X} - without the Xs - it should be speedily deleted (this only works as you are the creator). Johnbod (talk) 13:15, 30 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

New picture of William Wilberforce by George Hayter

Thanks for uploading File:William Wilberforce by George Hayter.jpg. You don't seem to have said where the image came from. My main concern is that this is a previously unknown picture of William Wilberforce and bears little resemblance to other images depicting him, and while he may indeed be the subject of the painting, I would be interested to know about its provenance in order to be able to determine its authenticity.
