SwisterTwister talk 02:26, 2 November 2017 (UTC)My article "Acoustic Highway" album was declined
Hi Eddie, Thanks for reviewing my first attempt at starting an article from scratch. I assume the first thing that made you decline it was not being sourced? Is that correct? Is there anything else that I can do to ensure it is accepted? I trust that Craig Chaquico himself is a notable musician, song writer, composer, and producer himself with Grammy awards with proper citations? I'm open to all suggestions. VisualEditor for The Signpost
In re: Wikipedia:VisualEditor/Feedback/Archive 2017 1#Signpost, there have been a few discussions about enabling the visual editor for the Wikipedia: namespace. The main deterrent for this wiki is the presence of ANI in that namespace. However, there are a couple of requests (see links in the corner) that would probably also work for your purposes. I'm sorry to say that I can't promise that any of them will happen any time soon, but if you subscribe to the tasks, then you'll get notifications (e-mail from Phabricator, not WP:Echo notifications) when/if there is any progress. Hi Eddie,
Thank you for your feedback on my first draft. I am completely aware that autobiographies are discouraged by Wikipedia but this is to certify this all the information provided by me was factually correct.
After my recent contribution as an Actor on an Indian Television Channel, it has been brought to my notice that audience has started looking me up on google(thus, in turn, wikipedia) and I, would not appreciate them coming across wrong information about me. It is therefore only apt that the such traffic meets with right and correct information as it is going to change their perception of me or my show, 'Woh Apna Sa' which airs regularly on ZeeTv(India).
I am, hereby, including the links to the episodes in which I have enacted hoping it would add to my credibility and links to my social networking sites. I am well aware the social networking sites are not recognized by editors such as your self but I unfortunately do not have other options as of right now.
'Woh Apna Sa' Episode list reference: [1] (Verified Offical Zee Online Streaming Website) [2]
Episode a: [3] Episode b: [4] Episode c: [5]
Here is my reference to the shortfilm 'suffer' which starred me as its lead cast: Official Short Film: [6] Official trailer: [7]
My official Social Netwroking Sites:
Eddie, I am aware I might not have all the knowledge to draft a perfect well acceptable article on myself. But agreeing the basic fact that Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia and the Indian audience who will look me on google, they will expect to find information about me. Other websites might give them just that but I'd rather have them get correct information as in my profession incorrect information leaves me vulnerable and my career as an actor in jeopardy. I know that your read this message and understand the value and potential of this message. I would therefore like the editors, such as yourself to assist me in converting this draft into a successful article and help me present right information about myself.

Thank you for reviewing the GA nomination of Joseph R. Fisher
Thanks - I've rewritten the introduction to the Boundary Commission quite extensively in response to your observations (while still trying to getting too far into the details). I've added a number of citations, including a 1940 obituary by the Institute of Journalists that better sources the first point. As regards images, the sepia photo of Fisher with the Boundary Commission (which I also added to the Irish Boundary Commission article) is the only fair use image of him I was ever able to find. There's later ones that are still in copyright - this one is only fair use because it's been released by the National Library of Ireland. I understand that he went back to the Bar in London after the war but I've no reliable sources for that, so I've said nothing. On "broad in its coverage" - do you have anything specific in mind post my rewrite? Fiachra10003 (talk) 23:09, 25 December 2017 (UTC)
- Fiachra10003 The article looks much better. I just have a couple more problems that I have outlined in the GAR. Eddie891 Talk Work 01:01, 26 December 2017 (UTC)
- I broke the Irish Boundary Commission section down into two sections and edited the sections for clarity. I removed the first citation, for which we now have a more reliable replacement. Are there other citations that worry you? Each of the remaining ones seems from a reliable source, even if some of them are primary rather than secondary sources. We don't have Fisher's date of birth within 1855 - I'll have another check of the sources but none seemed to mention his birthday. Fiachra10003 (talk) 12:23, 26 December 2017 (UTC)

It can be a general contest or just a women contest. A general US wide contest might be a bit big in scope so could be a general one for New england area perhaps and give largest prizes for women bios. When someone who is not very experienced in writing submits an article for publication, the article often needs some clean up, and the editors need advice. Perhaps you could help with that? I'd also like to write an essay Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/So you want to write an article? if something of the like doesn't exist. Thoughts? And thank you for all you've been up to. Eddie891 Talk Work 17:34, 4 April 2018 (UTC)
- I don't really want to become a resident copy editor - there are 'team' members who are supposedly doing that - but I'll help marshalling of submissions, and I'll certainly assist in moving forward any discussions that aim to build a cohesive editorial group. I think your idea of an automated mesage to new(ish) users is a very good suggestion. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 01:26, 5 April 2018 (UTC)

Recent changes
- The parameter for unpatrolled edits in recent changes filters changed name. You might need to update saved filters and links. [4]
Problems
- We are migrating wikis from Tidy to Remex. Because of a bug the 250 wikis which do not yet use Remex were switched on 23 April. This is two months early. This meant that pages with broken wikitext showed wrongly to readers. The bug was undone the next day. You can help fix broken wikitext to avoid this problem when your wiki switches. Tidy will be removed on all wikis before July 2018. You can follow the process on Phabricator. [5]
Changes later this week
- You will be able use CodeMirror in the 2017 wikitext editor on all wikis. CodeMirror helps with syntax highlighting. It has previously been a beta feature and only available on wikis with scripts that are written from left to right. [6]
- When an administrator blocks someone they will have a calendar they can use to choose when the block ends. This is to make it easier to pick a specific date. [7]
- You can soon turn on the Performance Inspector in the Editing section in your preferences. It shows information about the performance of pages. This could be the size of modules in the page, how many CSS selectors are defined on the page and how many are used, or the size of the images on the page. This tool is intended to help editors fix pages that load slowly. [8]
- There is a new abuse filter function called
equals_to_any
. You can use it to check if its first argument is equal (===
) to any of the following ones. For example you can use it to check if the page's namespace is amongst a given set of values in a more compact way than you could earlier. You can read more on mediawiki.org. - The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 1 May. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 2 May. It will be on all wikis from 3 May (calendar).

Future changes
- The Wikimedia Cloud Services team is working on a new project called Toolhub. The goal is to make it easier for Wikimedians to discover software tools they can use. You can leave feedback on the talk page or email jhare wikimedia.org to leave private feedback.
- All wikis with fewer than 100 high-priority linter errors in all namespaces will switch to use the Remex parsing library. This is to replace Tidy. It will happen on 2 May. Other wikis will be recommended to switch soon when they have fixed the errors that must be fixed. Wikibooks wikis with fewer than 100 high-priority linter errors in the main namespace will switch on 9 May. Tidy will be removed on all wikis before July 2018. [9][10][11]

- The Wikimedia Commons mobile app has a new version. It is now easier to find nearby places that need pictures. It helps you with direct uploads and title and category suggestions. The app only works on Android phones. [12]
Problems
- The abuse filters had a problem with blocks where you had changed how long they last. It used the default length everywhere. This was in late April. Abuse filter users should make sure the right block length is used and change them if needed. This is only for filters where how long blocks last had been changed. [13]

Thank you
Dear Eddie, thanks for the suggestions. I've to break up that article into some sub-sections; through I'm little protective of that article, since it covers a big gap in history that I have long wanted to fill. Cheers!--A.S. Brown (talk) 00:23, 8 May 2018 (UTC)
- A.S. Brown: I certainly understand what you mean, and congratulations for such a lengthy article. I just feel that someone reading it might have some trouble making it through, given how long it is, and it could use some breaking up. There is no criticism of your work, and it is an incredible feat. Happy Editing! Eddie891 Talk Work 00:30, 8 May 2018 (UTC)
Article assesments
Hi. I'm just curious why you assessed Anastasiya Biseniek as C class and Anna Morozova as start. They are FAR from stubs and much longer than comparable Hero of the Soviet Union biographies in their respective classes. Biseniek is ~20,000 bytes, and there's not much content to add to add to either of them. The reason for the class assignments is so we can find articles to expand and upgrade them. How exactly do you want to see them improved? There are far shorter B-class articles out there, and putting them in lower grades than needed clogs up the stub to start categories with articles that can't be improved as much as those that really need it. (I.e., articles short in English but a mile long in Russian)--PlanespotterA320 (talk) 00:45, 8 May 2018 (UTC)
- Hello, PlanespotterA320 Thank you for catching my mis-assessment of Anna Morozova, I have re assessed it as C-class. I am hesitant to assess those a B-class, because, it is crucial you understand, I don't feel like I have seen comparable articles at B-class in my time on Wikipedia. I will be happy to reassess based on B criteria, but do you think you could link a B-class article of comparable topic and size? I certainly think they are very close to B at this point, but I'd just like to see what a more experienced reviewer on the topic has previously said first. Great work, and I hope you are still considering writing that 'Barrier of Translation' op-ed for The Signpost. If you have any questions on the op-ed, feel free to let me know. Thank you, and Happy Editing! Eddie891 Talk Work 10:56, 8 May 2018 (UTC)
- Andrey Shebalkov, Aleksei Aleksandrovich Grechkin, Vladimir Aleksenko, Museyib Baghirov, Boris Vladimirov... I went to the "Category:B-Class biography (military) articles" and clicked on names that corresponded to HSUs - All of them are much shorter. For the most compareable in topic and size, theres Yelena Mazanik, which I also wrote, but still not quite as long despite Mazanik's fame after her award compared to Biseniek being a posthumous recipient.--PlanespotterA320 (talk) 12:11, 8 May 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you PlanespotterA320! I have reassesed as B-class. Good work.Eddie891 Talk Work 14:08, 8 May 2018 (UTC)
Flying Through MILHIST Assessments
How are you able to assess an article without reading it? --Molestash (talk) 23:45, 8 May 2018 (UTC)
- Molestash I read the articles, but most of them are A) very short, or B) I am just reaffirming previous assessments. I understand that I am assessing fast, but the articles are short. Take for example Bridgegate, Chester. The article has not been substantially changed since 2009. It was originally assessed as start that same year. So, for me, it takes 25 seconds to read the article, and ascertain that it has not progressed beyond start-class. Eddie891 Talk Work 23:50, 8 May 2018 (UTC)
- Molestash is there anything I was doing wrong? Eddie891 Talk Work 23:55, 8 May 2018 (UTC)
Invitation to WikiProject Portals
Hi,
I noticed your interest in portals. Here is what has been going on behind-the-scenes with them...
Currently, there are about 1500 portals, comprised of 150,000 pages in portal space, the rest beyond the 1500 being subpages. Most of those subpages contain an excerpt, copied and pasted from some article. Such excerpts never change, and they go stale over time (no longer matching the original source material).
The Portal WikiProject was rebooted on April 17th, and has grown to 68 members. We've been busy redesigning the portal model so that portals will not need all those subpages.
The design concept called "selective transclusion", which is used for migrating excerpts (moving them to the base page), does so by displaying part of an article the same as a template. An added benefit of this is that it also keeps them fresh, by always showing the current version of the content that is transcluded.
We are also working on ways to make excerpted content, and listed entries, dynamic, so that the material or links shown automatically change over time without the intervention of an editor. Selected articles, could be set up to change daily, for example, to present a different article each day. This can even be made to show a different article every time a user visits the page. Currently, we can do this from a set list. We're trying to make it so that the list is updated automatically from an external source that is regularly maintained.
Other automated solutions are being sought or developed for each section type of portals. To automatically update and archive news, did you know entries, and so on.
Once we get a fully automated design worked out, it will be applied to all the portals that do not have dedicated maintainers. This will reduce the amount of maintenance they need. A single editor will then be able to watch over far more portals than before, ideally, with each portal taking up only a single page in portal space.
The Portal WikiProject is dedicated to updating, upgrading, and maintaining the entire portal system and every portal in it.
Come check us out, and if you like what you see, feel free to join. — The Transhumanist 05:33, 9 May 2018 (UTC)
