Rilwan Akiolu "Controversy"
editThe subtle change in quotes on Rilwan Akiolu's controversial statements changes what he actually said. Listen to the audio clip and tell me if you agree/disagree.
Kunkuru (talk) 13:32, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
Hi, What the article creator wrote in the article is not too different from the general public's view. Although, it has not been included in the article, I later heard that he re-addressed his speech stating he was quoted out of context. Although I am yet to listen the audio version, you are free to edit the article by adding more information to clarify his final stance on the controversial statement with reliable sources. Bots
edit
You are receiving this message because a technical change may affect a bot, gadget, or user script you have been using. The breaking change involves API calls. This change has been planned for two years. The WMF will start making this change on 30 June 2015. A partial list of affected bots can be seen here: https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-l/2015-June/081931.html This includes all bots that are using pywikibot compat. Some of these bots have already been fixed. However, if you write user scripts or operate a bot that uses the API, then you should check your code, to make sure that it will not break.
What, exactly, is breaking? The "default continuation mode" for action=query requests to api.php will be changing to be easier for new coders to use correctly. To find out whether your script or bot may be affected, then search the source code (including any frameworks or libraries) for the string "query-continue". If that is not present, then the script or bot is not affected. In a few cases, the code will be present but not used. In that case, the script or bot will continue working.
This change will be part of 1.26wmf12. It will be deployed to test wikis (including mediawiki.org) on 30 June, to non-Wikipedias (such as Wiktionary) on 1 July, and to all Wikipedias on 2 July 2015.
If your bot or script is receiving the warning about this upcoming change (as seen at https://www.mediawiki.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=allpages ), it's time to fix your code!
- The simple solution is to simply include the "rawcontinue" parameter with your request to continue receiving the raw continuation data (example <https://www.mediawiki.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=allpages&rawcontinue=1>). No other code changes should be necessary.
- Or you could update your code to use the simplified continuation documented at https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/API:Query#Continuing_queries (example <https://www.mediawiki.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=allpages&continue=>), which is much easier for clients to implement correctly.
Either of the above solutions may be tested immediately, you'll know it works because you stop seeing the warning.
Do you need help with your own bot or script? Ask questions in e-mail on the mediawiki-api or wikitech-l mailing lists. Volunteers at m:Tech or w:en:WP:Village pump (technical) or w:en:Wikipedia:Bot owners' noticeboard may also be able to help you.
Are you using someone else's gadgets or user scripts? Most scripts are not affected. To find out if a script you use needs to be updated, then post a note at the discussion page for the gadget or the talk page of the user who originally made the script. editPlease do not add or change content, as you did at Sam Ayorinde, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. GiantSnowman 12:41, 3 July 2015 (UTC). One of the wikilinks added to the article has information relating to my categorization. However the other wikilink only has a wiktionary definition relating to the article and obviously needs more sources for clarification. It will be added as soon as possible. DYK for Yoruba tribal marks
editOn 6 July 2015, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Yoruba tribal marks, which you recently created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the main purpose of the tribal marks on the face or body of the Yoruba people is for identification of a person's tribe or family? You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page. |
Please look at the final line of the MTV Base article you cited Pasted below for your reference
British contemporary R&B singer/songwriter/producer Taio Cruz established himself as a songwriter, notably co-penning Will Young's BRIT Award-winning "Your Game" and Rihanna's cross-Atlantic chart-topper "Umbrella," before embarking on a performance career of his own. Born Adetayo Ayowale Onile-Ere on April 23, 1982, in London, England, to a Nigerian father and a Brazilian mother, Cruz went to school in rural Sussex and was introduced to soul music at a young age by his mother. At age 18 he signed a publishing deal and made a big name for himself by co-writing Pop Idol winner Will Young's "Your Game" (2004), the recipient of the 2005 BRIT Award for Best British Single, as well as Rihanna's international number one smash "Umbrella" (2007), which had originally been intended for Britney Spears. In 2006 Cruz made his solo debut with "I Just Wanna Know," a Top 30 U.K. hit single released by Universal Music Group. The following year he released the follow-up single "Moving On," another Top 30 U.K. hit, but didn't release his full-length album debut, Departure, until 2008. The album featured each of Cruz's previously released singles, along with the concurrently released fourth single "Departure," a Top Five hit. After appearing on Tinchy Stryder's hit U.K. single "Take Me Back," Cruz began work on his next album. The first single from the album, "Break Your Heart," topped the U.K. charts for three weeks; a remixed version that featured Ludacris hit number one on the U.S. chart as well. The full-length Rokstarr appeared in October of 2009. ~ Jason Birchmeier, allmusic.com
It references Jason Birchmeier from allmusic.com
Please see here the correct article listing Jacob Taio Cruz as birth name. http://www.allmusic.com/artist/taio-cruz-mn0000570155/biography
Jason Birchmeier originally made an error and many publications cited his error including wikipedia.
Shaken And Stirred (talk) 04:51, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
- Are you ignoring this talk discussion? Taio Cruz has clearly stated on many occasions that Adetayo is not his birth name. All his socials including his official website clearly state his name as Jacob Cruz. https://twitter.com/TaioCruz http://Instagram.com/TaioCruz
- http://TaioCruz.com/biography clearly shows birthdate and birthname.
- Other reputable sources are All Music - http://www.allmusic.com/artist/taio-cruz-mn0000570155/biography, Billboard - http://www.billboard.com/artist/277535/taio-cruz/biography, A google search for "Taio Cruz Real Name" results in this - https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&rlz=1C5CHFA_enUS529US529&ion=1&espv=2&es_th=1&ie=UTF-8#q=taio%20cruz%20real%20name&es_th=1
- Your sources seem to support your view and not what is actually out there from reputable sources.
Shaken And Stirred (talk) 16:44, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
You have only provided information from a website stating his birth name as "Taio Cruz" which doesn't invalidate or disprove his real birth name. I have specified the reason for my edit per reliable sources. While he is popularly known by the name Taio Cruz, the fact remains that other multiple reliable sources cannot all be wrong in citing his real name. I have not found any official statement either published or online from Taio Cruz himself denouncing "Adetayo Ayowale Onile-Ere" which I cited on his BLP article. If you can provide sources contradicting this birth name, you are welcome to revert my edit. Eruditescholar (talk) 17:10, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply, I think you didn't read my references correctly so please allow me to clarify in numbered form.
- 1. The "official statement" comes from his official website biography which I listed above - http://taiocruz.com/biography (Scroll down to the first paragraph where it says - "Born and bred in London, England, Jacob Taio Cruz ")
- Also look at his Instagram Name http://Instagram.com/TaioCruz
- and Twitter name https://twitter.com/TaioCruz
- 2. The sources you are citing are from a spurious places
- a. A Brazilian version of rolling stone. The official version of Rolling stone does not have a biography about Taio Cruz - http://www.rollingstone.com/music/artists/taio-cruz
- b. An MTV Base article from Jason Birchmeier that is incorrect. The correct article by jason Birchmeier is here - http://www.allmusic.com/artist/taio-cruz-mn0000570155/biography
- c. As for NYDailyNews I have no argument except that they are simply wrong :)
- There is a phenomenon i call "a wiki vicious cycle". This is when something gets written on wikipedia (for example "Taio Cruz is French", and then a major publication uses wiki as a source (for example CNN.com says "Taio Cruz is French". Wiki then links back to that source as a "reliable cite". This doesn't change the fact the Taio Cruz is not French :) - I hope you understand what I mean.
Shaken And Stirred (talk) 23:50, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
The few sources out of the many available ones which I have cited on his BLP article are all reliable sources. All the websites and social media on Taio Cruz which you highlighted have still not made any difference regarding the validity of his real birth name. You have not provided any reliable source countering the name "Adetayo Adewale Onile-Ere". Eruditescholar (talk) 19:56, 3 September 2015 (UTC).

How are you doing? I want to let you know that, I have no personal issues with you or your editing style. You are doing well here and your contributions are commendable. I was only a bit worried when I saw that you ignored WP:Indentation after I had told you about its usage several times. I'm deeply sorry, if I was a bit blunt. Oliver Ogedengbe Macaulay
editHello Eruditescholar: where can I get more information about Oged Macaulay? Thanks in advance!!Kunkuru (talk) 22:39, 4 September 2015 (UTC) Hi, Kunkuru, I presume biographical publications on Herbert Macaulay should have sufficient information on his children especially his son; Oliver Ogedengbe. Alternatively online information from reliable websites should be the next option in lieu of the ones cited on his article. Eruditescholar (talk) 23:27, 4 September 2015 (UTC)
Categorization
editHi! I saw this edit.
Categories need to be as precise as possible. A school listed under Category:International schools in Nigeria should not be listed in Category:International schools. Also, if this place is the only international school in Ibadan, the category Category:International schools in Ibadan should not exist. Redundant categories should be removed and it's not helpful to include them. WhisperToMe (talk) 07:03, 23 September 2015 (UTC)
You have a point regarding your good faith edit, but I presume if the Category:International schools in Lagos exists, there should be a counterpart category for the city of Ibadan. It is also necessary to reveal the fact that this is an International School, not just a "school" in Ibadan. Thanks for clarifying your edit. Eruditescholar (talk) 07:16, 23 September 2015 (UTC)
- You're welcome. Categorization is often based on how many articles of some concept/categorization exists. If there is only one international school in a given city, then [[Category:International schools in countryname]] and [[Category:Schools in cityname]] will work fine, but if there is more than one, then categories can be split. Lagos has multiple international schools so it clearly should have its own category. However there may be too much fragmentation if every city got its own "international schools in" category.
- Category:International schools by name may be a possibility for a category. That way the parent category isn't filled unnecessarily. It may be good to discuss the idea first on the categories talk page or something.
- WhisperToMe (talk) 11:17, 23 September 2015 (UTC)
Category names
editHello Eruditescholar. When you create election categories, please ensure they match the title of the main article – specifically that the name includes "election" not "elections". Cheers, Number 57 20:03, 15 October 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, Please I was still in the process of editing the categories for uniformity. Could you restore the deleted categories? I was still editing. Thanks.Eruditescholar (talk) 20:09, 15 October 2015 (UTC)
- I have fixed the category names you created in error. Please use the format Category:Candidates in the Nigerian general election, 2015. Cheers, Number 57 20:10, 15 October 2015 (UTC)
In the article's context, I felt "elections" should be more appropriate in lieu of "election". However, thanks for your recommendation. Eruditescholar (talk) 20:20, 15 October 2015 (UTC)

Nas ancestry
editThis source: http://www.blackenterprise.com/lifestyle/ten-facts-about-nas/, is not a reliable source because it's a blog. The reason why I'm removing the supposed Yoruba ancestry of Nas and Olu Dara is because there are other similar sources that say he's not Nigerian firstly, and also because this rumour has not been confirmed by Nas in any media outlet. African Americans often adopt African names especially when Olu Dara was growing up. If we keep undoing it seems we'll need a third party resolution and I'm not sure these sources can be confirmed because things that relate to identity are usually highly scrutinised. Ukabia - talk 12:04, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
I currently only have access to Wikipedia and will not be able to access the websites you listed until later. I have edited, sourced and categorized various Nigeria-related articles of various ethnicites i.e Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, Fula etc. The source you mentioned is not a blog. Apart from the remaining citations, there are still yet other sources not included in the article. If you can provide sufficient reliable sources countering his Nigerian ancestry, it will be put into consideration. However Nas has not made any personal or official statement renouncing his Nigerian ancestry. Eruditescholar (talk) 12:44, 21 October 2015 (UTC)

editYour recent editing history at Olu Dara shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you get reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.
Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. Robert McClenon (talk) 16:49, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
{{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}
.During a dispute, you should first try to discuss controversial changes and seek consensus. If that proves unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 19:29, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
Robert McClenon, CambridgeBayWeather, since the commencement of this discussion, I had issues with my internet access. As a result, I have been offline and was only able to come back online to read this notification now. Thanks for informing me about the three-revert rule and your advice regarding dispute resolution for Wikipedia editors. Eruditescholar (talk) 06:28, 22 October 2015 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
