(talk page watcher)(Non-administrator comment) Hi Holyland2026. I'm not Explicit, but English Wikipedia primarily goes by US copyright law. Do you know whether the photo in question was in the public domain in Israel before January 1, 1996. Under the URAA, copyright protection of foreign works was restored under US copyright law if the work wasn't within the public domain before the country of first publication's URAA date: the URAA date for Israel is January 1, 1996. Since Hebrew Wikipedia is most likely only concerned with Israeli copyright law, it probably has no problem hosting the file locally if it entered into the public domain on or after January 1, 1996; however, as I posted above, English Wikipedia goes by US copyright law and it can't really host files that are still copyrighted per US copyright laws, unless the WP:CONSENT or the copyright holder can be verified or the file somehow satisfies Wikipedia's non-free content use policy.

Finally, regarding your the webpage that I'm working on request, English Wikipedia doesn't have webpages per se; it has encyclopedic articles, but there's no requirement for an article to have images. So, if you're currently working on a draft (Draft:Bank of the Temple Society) that you hope someday will be approved as an article, you don't really need to worry about adding images to it at this point because images (or a lack of images) won't impact the assessment of the draft. Focus on the text content of the draft and establishing that the subject you'd like to create an article about meets Wikipedia:Notability (Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies)). Hi again Holyland2026. Just for reference, under US copyright law a photo taken and first published in 1935 could still be eligible for copyright protection until January 1, 2031; there could be another reason it has entered the public domain before then but it will not enter into the public just because of its age until that date. Under Israeli copyright law, any photos taken by Carl Lutz would still be eligible for copyright protection for 70 years after his death; so, it's still possible that the photo is still under copyright protection under Israeli copyright and will remain as such until January 1, 2041. I don't understand Hebrew so I tried to use Google Translate to look at the file's Hebrew Wikipedia page; that page seems to say the same thing about 70 years needing to pass after Lutz died before any of his photos enter into the public domain just because of their age. -- Marchjuly (talk) 12:21, 18 February 2026 (UTC)

@Holyland2026: Each language Wikipedia is a different proiect with its own policies and guidelines, and its own editing community applying those policies and guidelines. Some projects have more participants, and more participants tends to mean more people are looking for issues or things that might need to be fixed. On English Wikipedia, for example, files aren't checked, and their copyright status isn't verified before they're uploaded; those things only happen after the fact (sometimes much after the fact), and usually only when somebody asks about a file or decides to take a closer look at it for whatever reason. English Wikipedia administrators like Explicit delete problem files all of the time after they've been uploaded, sometimes years after; so, the fact that a file was uploaded to English Wikipedia doesn't mean it should've been uploaded. Maybe Hebrew Wikipedia does things differently, but as I said English Wikipedia goes by its own policies and guidelines. Now, one thing that might decide this is the fact that the 70-year requirement I mentioned above seems to be started with the most recent version of Israeli copyright law which took effect in 2007. Apparently, the pre-2007 version of the law still applies to photos taken prior to the new law taking effect. For those photos, the copyright term seems to be 51 years after creation. This would mean that any photos taken prior to January 1, 1956, could have entered into the public domain on December 31 of the 51st year after creation. For such a photo to be in the public domain under US copyright law and not have had its copyright renewed on Israel's URAA date, I think it would've had to been taken before January 1, 1945. After all an English version of the details of this bank is missing on Wikipedia and I found it interesting to search the web and find anything I can to enlighten users about this historical institute that existed during the Mandate for Palestine.

An English Wikipdedia article about the bank should only be written if the bank satisfies Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies, which is English Wikipedia's sub-guideline for assessing the notability of institutions like banks. Unless you're able to clearly establish the bank is notable by English Wikipedia's standards, no article written about it likely going to be able to avoid deletion. Just for reference, the existence of a Hebrew Wikipedia article about the bank doesn't automatically mean there should also be an English Wikipedia about the bank as explained here.

As for the copyright status of the image itself, that doesn't really have anything to do with the Wikipedia notability of the bank. You can, though, ask about the image at c:COM:VPC and see if others are able to better help assess its copyright status. If the photo has indeed already entered into the public domain under Israeli copyright law and US copyright law, Wikimedia Commons is actually where it should be uploaded. -- Marchjuly (talk) 10:54, 20 February 2026 (UTC)

All companies and organizations are required to satisfy relevant Wikipedia notability guidelines regardless of whether they no longer exist. So, the best way to ensure that any English Wikipedia article about the bank avoids beoing nominated/tagged/proposed for WP:DELETION will be to find the required WP:SIGCOV that establishes its Wikipedia notability. You could ask about the bank at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Israel to see whether any members of that WikiProject can help you in assessing the bank's Wikipedia notability.

Assuming your concerns about the deletion of the file have been resolved, it would probably be best to move any further discussion about the bank and its Wikipedia article to some other page (perhaps Draft talk:Bank of the Temple Society?). Coming back to our discussed topic about the photo of the German bank in Jaffa in 1935 by Carl Lutz, I have further investigated this issue as per your suggestions and found the following:

@Holyland2026: Given the new information you've found about the photo's provenance, I really think you should ask about this at c:Commons:Village pump/Copyright (VPC) because there's a really good chance the photo has already entered into the public domain under both Israel's and the US's copyright laws. If that's the case, there's really no reason for Explicit to undelete the file locally to English Wikipedia because it would be better off being reuploaded again (even in a higher resolution) to Wikimedia Commons (Commons) instead because it will make the file much easier to use by all the different Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) projects: files uploaded locally to a particular WMF project like English Wikipedia or Hebrew Wikipedia can only be used on that particular project. If you ask about this at Commons, and someone replies that the photo is still protected under US copyright law, then there's still no reason for Explicit to undelete the file locally to English Wikipedia (at least not at this time) because the file would most likely need to be treated as non-free content, and non-free content can't be used in drafts. Anyway, when you ask about this at Commons VPC just provide a link to the file's page on Hebrew Wikipedia and all of the same information about the photo's provenance that you found above. About one of your closes

Hello! I am curious about why you closed WP:Miscellany for deletion/Draft:Gimkit guide as "no consensus" (since I believe that the majority of strong reasoning was for keeping).

Hi Explicit. Could you take a look at File:Performance 254 (2022).jpg? It looks like it was originally uploaded as non-free but got tagged for speedy deletion per F5. The uploader then seems to have tried to self-tag the file for deletion before then deciding just to blank the page. I'm not sure whether that meets the criteria for G7, but now the file has no license and source which is a problem per F4. Hi Explicit. I am new to this and have been working on updating and correcting a page for over a week now in my sandbox. I was literally adding my notes for the first section of corrections, additions, and links that I copied over from my sandbox and it wouldn't publish. After refreshing several times and it still not working, I opened a new window to go to the page and it showed the message that you had just freshly deleted the page.

The independent film premiered at the Cinequest Film Festival in 2007 and won the Audience Award for the best documentary. The film also screened at the Seattle International Film Festival and more than 50 other festivals, ultimately receiving a limited theatrical release.

In 2007, Douglas produced Monster Camp, a documentary about live-action role-playing in Seattle, through Aaron Douglas Enterprises. The film premiered at the Cinequest Film Festival, winning the Audience Award for Best Documentary, and received a positive review in Variety. He also co-wrote and produced the play, Planet Eden, staged at Portland's Fertile Ground Festival in 2011 and which was workshopped again in .

In 2015, Douglas published Growing Up Twice: Shaping a Future by Reliving My Past (Newsworthy Books), a memoir about his experience mentoring through Big Brothers Big Sisters. Kirkus Reviews called it "a moving memoir about struggling to form personal relationships in turbulent environments." The book received the 2017 Silver Medal for Inspirational Fiction from Readers' Favorite.

Institute for East West Strategic Studies

Hi there - you deleted this page supposedly for lack of notability. But the IEWSS is very notable and has done important work on reconciling the Vatican and the Chinese Government, preparing the ground for the Iran nuclear deal, and most recently on bringing together US, Russian and Chinese representativs to backchannel a peace deal in Ukraine. The IEWSS been written about in the Financial Times, Israel Times, The Spectator Magazine, Newsweek and The Daily Telegraph. How could anyone claim it's not notable? I can only guess that this was malicious vandalism but I can't see who made the original deletion request ... please reinstate this asap! Why delete Trust the American Floor Safety Alliance page?

I had just uploaded several published articles showing that this organization is legitimate. What else must I do to get this page approved? I thought the reason it wasn't originally approved was because of a lack of organizations that mention it. There are about a half dozen online media articles published about the organization now, and listed a few of them, and then you deleted the page. I'm trying to understand what we need to do to be recognized by Wikipedia. I can assure you we are real, and our intentions are to stop slip and fall injuries in the USA and beyond. Hi Explicit. While you are generally correct that a PROD, once removed, may not be restored, BANREVERT is an exemption to that. A PROD removed by a banned editor may be reinstated. This removal was by an editor who is banned from Indian military history by virtue of not being extended-confirmed (and was reverted for that reason), and therefore your subsequent prod decline wasn't necessary. Hello, I am the subject of the biography "Güzide Irmak Bayır", deleted on 30 March 2026 under a PROD citing WP:NSKATE. Under WP:NSKATE criterion #2, winning a country's senior national championships satisfies notability, except for countries that do not regularly send multiple skaters to the Olympic Games. Turkey does appear on the Olympic figure skating participation tally and has sent skaters to the Games. I am also currently listed on the Wikipedia article for the Turkish Ice Skating Federation (under the Notable sportspeople section), and appear to be the only skater referenced there whose individual page has been deleted. I am a four-time Turkish Senior National Champion (the highest number of national championships ever held by a female Turkish skater) and also hold the record for the highest points received by a Turkish female figure skater in an ISU competition.

I believe restoration to the mainspace is warranted; however, if you disagree as a more experienced Wikipedia editor, I would be more than happy to get it restored to draft space so I can improve the sourcing before resubmitting through AfC. Hello, I hope you'll consider reversing your deletion of this image, if that's possible. I was engaging in a conversation with TAnthony on its talk page, and was in the process of responding. Closer scrutiny of the existing image (a publicity photo from The Flip Wilson Show) reveals that it is not, in fact, a free image. It was incorrectly uploaded to Wikimedia Commons; it is clearly not the work of its uploader, and there is no reason to think that the copyright holder gave permission — therefore, it should not be on WC. I'm not Explicit, but this file seems (at least at first glance) to OK for Commons, which would mean File:David reuben md.JPG would also be OK for Commons. The person who uploaded the uncropped file isn't claiming it to be their "own work"; they're claiming it was a publicity photo released by its copyright holder without a proper copyright notice. Publicity photos released during that period of time (i.e., prior to 1 January 1978) were required to have individual copyright notices in order for them to be considered eligible for copyright protection ({{PD-US-no notice}}); those that didn't entered into the public domain (due to changes in US copyright law) on 1 January 1978. In many cases, providing a proper notice and other copyright formalities for such photos were simply not done because the copyright holder just didn't think it was worth to do. Generally with publicity photos, the copyright notice appeared either in the border of the photo or on the back of the photo; this is why the uploader provided links to both the front and back of the photo. Those links are dead now (the photo seems to have been sold so its listing was removed by eBay), but it's kind of unlikely that the uploader would've gone to the trouble of adding them if they did show the photo had a copyright notice. Did you by chance find the same photo with a visible copyright notice (border or back) on some other website? If you did, then that might be something worth starting a c:COM:DR about for the the file, but otherwise it's unlikely going to end up being deleted just because of some dead links. @Cedar777: Hi, this file was not deleted as replaceable fair use, but for not respecting commercial opportunities. Photos from sources like the AP, Getty, etc., are almost never allowed and can be deleted immediately. Trying to re-upload an orphaned image

Hi, I uploaded an image directly to Wikipedia of Wifiskeleton a little while ago, but I later ended up replacing it with an image I uploaded to Commons. Since the fair use image wasn't being used on any pages, you deleted it. However, I apparently misunderstood the Commons licensing I uploaded the image under, and the image has been taken down. I'm trying to re-upload the image directly to Wikipedia like it was before, but when I tried to, I got a warning template saying I "should ask someone with the ability to view suppressed file data to review the situation before proceeding to re-upload it." Don Wharton page deletion

On May 6, the Don Wharton page was deleted right on the verge of a big expansion of his online presence. Don has released 20 albums, has written almost 10 books, and had a notable speaking and concert tour career. His vast catalog is just now (May 9, 2026) starting to hit streaming services and I went looking for his Wikipedia page to give it significant upgrades. How can we get it restored? Redirect of The Frenchman (The Boys character) and The Female (The Boys character) articles

Hello, it appears that you have redirected the articles in the subject line The Frenchman (The Boys character) and The Female (The Boys character) to the general character page, there are links that redirect it back to the same article.

The history of both articles show that they were redirected because of "Sockpuppet edits". Could you clarify which edits were "sockpuppet edits" that were reverted? As it stands now, it doesn't look like either article was subject to sockpuppet edits or were experiencing vandalism. If the issue was notability, shouldn't that be marked as the reason for the redirect?

Category removal

Hi Explicit. You removed the category 'Public observances in Israel' which correctly replaced the wholly inappropriate use of the category 'Public holidays in Israel'. Page Deletion Issues

Good day @Explicit a couple of days ago, I saw a notification from Wikipedia:AI noticeboard#User:Dahproman saying a few articles I created were suspected to go against Wikipedia:Presumptive removal of AI-generated content purely based off suspicion.

If you check the noticeboard, you would find only one of those articles actually had concerns shared, that's 1/7 and I asked the community to provide more context on why the rest were nominated, and nobody gave me anything. Then I got a message saying I needed to find whatever AI content I suspect and fix that myself. With 7 articles, obviously everyone has a different opinion on what sounds like AI or not. I found none, and then I came today and found out that the articles have been deleted, even the one on Restlezz that was written over 2 years ago when LLMs hadn't been incorporated in writing yet.

They all got deleted for basically nothing, and they expect me to write everything from scratch again. I find this unfair and I've tried ways to get the previous content of the articles to help reduce the workload in rewriting, and still I can't, as the administrator that deleted the article i saw i can request an undelete if a lot of time haven't passed, that would give me a bit more time to fix the suspected AI content of all 7 articles, since the articles have all been reviewed already deleting solely based on Wikipedia:Presumptive removal of AI-generated content does sound different. I can get time to fix the few sentences or paragraphs in the suspected articles i just need them undeleted. At a recent discussion, your closure of Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2025 February 16#Dhruva Natchathiram was brought into question. I just reviewed it and I agree that redirect should not have been deleted. The nominator was not seeking deletion, but rather what the primary topic would be, whether it's Dhruva or Dhruva Natchathiram (unreleased film). Two others commented that it's a name for the pole star, with one of the commenters explicitly stating that they thought the primary topic is pole star. Jay then left the only !deletion vote, which was conditioned on if the target had information on the star in that language. However, the target at the time, Dhruva was literally about the topic of the pole star in a Sanskrit-speaking culture. That would seem to nullify the condition for his deletion.
