18:41:00, 27 December 2015 review of submission by Alfshire

Thank you for your diligence in reviewing Draft:Glen Gabriel. On the advice of a previous Wikipedia scrutineer I have made several amendments and now feel the subject meets the requirements of Wikipedia:Notability (music) Criteria for musicians and ensembles. Clause 10: Has performed music for a work of media that is notable, e.g., a theme for a network television show, performance in a television show or notable film, inclusion on a notable compilation album)

Although Swedish, the subject has musically scored popular and notable USA movies featuring well known stars such as Armand Assante, and I feel these achievements merit a Wikipedia page. I also mentioned he has worked with 5 time Grammy Award winner Brian Vibberts on a recently acclaimed album. Independent references have been added, including The Sequim Gazette newspaper, Piano Heaven, Critical Dance, Bachtrack, and HMMA Awards. A link to IMDb remains so readers can see at a glance his work on Hollywood movies. I hope after taking your kind advice you can accept the page after re-submission. Thanks again, AlfshireAlfshire 18:41, 27 December 2015 (UTC)

Article?

Hi, it appears you un-approved an article that SisterTwister had approved out of AfC, resulting in a redirect now having been created that probably shouldn't be there. (The AfC now gives an error, noting the original article exists.) You also didn't decline. Were you unapproving an approved AfC article, or was this an edit conflict? Also, note that the notability criteria are not in this case WP:PROF (although he does have an h-index above 20), but rather WP:AWARD and WP:EVENT. That award in 1990 generated enormous media coverage, and is an internationally recognized award (as following either the citations to the media coverage or the Wikipedia article on the award will immediately make clear.)

By reverting the previously approved AfC article, it is not clear if this will now cause problems for subsequent attempts to approve the article, as the page already exists, which may break scripts?G8239823 (talk) 18:26, 27 December 2015 (UTC)

Hello there. The subject seems to fail general notability, our most basic guideline on gauging notability. If you have evidence he does, please provide evidence of extensive coverage in independent and reliable sources. Otherwise, he will be deemed non-notable. To the commentary on draft:StefanGandler

Hi FoCuSandLeArN the actual university position ogf Stefan Gandler is: Tenured full time professor at the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro, permanent invited professor at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and member of the Sistema Nacional de Investigadores, category 2. Most Mexican University Professors are not members of the Sistema Nacional de Investigadores (S.N.I.), only those who publish continously important scientific/academic contributions in internationally recognized journals and editorial houses are members (Gandler published his books in the two most important Mexican editorial houses for social sciences: FCE and Siglo XXI. The FCE- Fondo de Cultura Económica is the largest and most important academic editorial house in the Spanish-speaking world). For the higher categories (2 and 3), additionally is required to be the main adviser of finished PhD thesis and have contributed in a considerable way to the formation of the new generation of university professors. In total exist four categories of the members: candidate, 1, 2 and 3. Category 3 is the highest one. Categories 2 and 3 are very limited, especially in the humanities and the social sciences; for to give an example: at the Department for Social and Political Sciences of the Autonomous University of Querétaro Dr. Gandler is the only professor in the category 2 of the S.N.I. Additionally, Gandler is the founder and chair of the research project "For a Critical theory from the Americas", which was recognized by the Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT) as a project of "Ciencia básica", and got for this reason founds for three years from the "Fondo SEP-CONACYT", which are very difficult to get, and it was the first time that this highly prestigious support was given to a research project in social sciences and humanities at this University, which is the main University in the Mexican State of Querétro. Even in the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM, the most important university of Latin America, and one of the biggest in the world) exist in the humanities and social sciences only a very small number of this category of research projects, for example: in the Facultad de Filosofía y Letras of the UNAM exist only 3 of them. Gandler's position at the UNAM is the following: he is officially recognized as PhD adviser in philosophy - most of the professors at the UNAM philosophy department are not. In Mexico, different also in that issue to the US, the position in an university in terms of labour contract is not automatically the same as the position in academic terms. Having a definitive full time contract does not mean automatically to have the right to advise postgraduate theses and to teach postgraduate courses. At the same time, the decision of the university to give to a professor the right to be PhD adviser and to teach postgraduate courses, does not automatically imply that the professor gets a definitive full time position in this university. A quote on Gandler's relevance in Latin American philosophy, written by the editor of the American Philosophical Association's Newsletter on Hispanic/Latino Issues in Philosophy has been included in the article text. In case that this would no be enough, nearly no Mexican professor could be in the Englis wikpipedia. If you have any questions, pleasew write me. Gast2011 (talk) 02:52, 29 December 2015 (UTC)

Request on 13:26:23, 1 January 2016 for assistance on AfC submission by Tony Thornburn

The draft article I created on Nigel Konstam has recently been withdrawn saying that: “This submission appears to be taken from http://www.verrocchio.co.uk/cms/index.php/sculpture. Wikipedia cannot accept material copied from elsewhere, unless it explicitly exists under a compatible licence and is written in an acceptable tone—this includes material that you own the copyright to”.

I spent some time editing the article to get the tone correct, following the helpful comments I had been offered previously, some months ago. If this is not sufficient, could the remaining ‘offending portions’ be specificaly highlighted please?

Moreover, a blanket deletion is not very helpful when trying to add to an Encyclopaedia for all in the world to have access.

If necessary I can get Nigel Konstam to issue a “Compatible licence”, but it would probably be more helpful if editors, using your ‘auto detection’ mechanisms (which I don’t have and would probably be incapable of using anyway) could point out. I have attempted to use my own words (and, as a previous university lecturer, have tried to avoid plagiarism etc) but have asked Konstam to edit where he thinks what I have said may have been inaccurate, or I have misquoted him. Hence it is inevitable that similar words have been used now and again that appear in his previous books, articles etc.

The article has necessarily used a good number of citations and references (which I have now entered in the correct format) because Konstam has made claims, backed up by his own evidence since the early 70’s, most of which has studiously not been disproved* or refuted by ‘so called connoisseurs/experts,’ call them what you will. Thus this proposed article, in the public domain, is important to academic study/art students past and present to aid getting at the truth, rather than opinion. Indeed, the article might not be appreciated to those with vested interest – of which I certainly have none in this area – which can only be a good thing, I would propose, in the pursuit of objectivity, pubic interest and scholarly study.

  • I still have to address 2 of the images regarding copyright but have that in hand. They are quite key to the objectivity argument - see below copied from an email Konstam sent me.

Begin forwarded message:

From: Nigel Konstam Subject: 4 MUSICIANS Date: 24 August 2014 at 10:41:54 BST To: Anthony Thornburn

the caption would not come out but should read

The maquette (left) shows how Rembrandt placed two models in front of a mirror for his drawing of 'Four Musicians' (right). A.Houbraken tells us that Rembrandt 'would not attempt a single brush-stroke without a living model before his eyes'. The fact that neither of the models know how to play their instruments (the nearest flute is the wrong way round and his companion's flute is reversed by the mirror and is therefore the right way round) should convince us that this was Rembrandt's practice. There are nearly 100 examples of this practice in Benesch's catalog. The two paintings of "The Adoration of the Shepherds" are viewed - Munich direct from life, London National Gallery in a mirror (see YouTube) )

The two images accompanying could not be copied here for you to view.

I will post a new portrait picture of Konstam, which he requested be taken recently to address the copyright issue, with the photographer's specific permission.

Many thanks in anticipation of your assistance.

June Carter Cash

Thanks for the warning regarding June Carter Cash, but it wasn't a joke edit, I was serious when I added the hidden comment. I don't want Wikipedia to beat about the bush, I don't expect Wikipedia to use some vague term to avoid some inconvenient or offensive word that someone else used. I want to know what body part Vivian talked about. And if she used the words "a female body part", or something to that extent, then great, it should be in the article, but in a quote that's attributed to her. I can understand why my edit might seem childish, but I just want to know more about such a great song. 94.209.141.253 (talk) 15:53, 3 January 2016 (UTC)

According to this site, Vivian Cash wrote: "To this day, it confounds me to hear the elaborate details June told of writing that song for Johnny. She didn't write that song any more than I did. The truth is, Johnny wrote that song, while pilled up and drunk, about a certain private female body part. All those years of her claiming she wrote it herself, and she probably never knew what the song was really about. But I was the bigger fool." In that case, the article should quote "a certain private female body part", between quotation marks, attributed to her. She did beat about the bush, and understandably so. But Wikipedia doesn't have to do it for her, that was my point. 94.209.141.253 (talk) 16:14, 3 January 2016 (UTC)
The following statement needed attribution: "this collaboration is disputed by Johnny's first wife Vivian in her 2007 book "I walked the Line", where she states on page 294 that Johnny wrote the song and included June as a co-writer since she needed money at the time. She further states that the song title refers to a female body part." I've found the source (a few secondary sources would be much appreciated, but I couldn't find any), and amended that paragraph accordingly. The allusion to body parts is left to each reader to interpret; I wouldn't linger on it. Best, FoCuS contribs; talk to me! 17:42, 3 January 2016 (UTC)

Austria

Hi there,

I really think the personal union between Habsburgs and the Hungarian Kingdom started on 3 November 1527 after the Battle of Mohacs when Ferdinand was coronated and Habsburgs did not leave the Hungarian throne since then. In 1867 the union became also constitutional.

With regards,

Vlad

Plantation of Ulster

Please explain in detail why you removed all my changes to this page.

In particular in "Planning the plantation", the following sentence is one-sided and wrong:

"The Plantation of Ulster was presented to James I as a joint "British", or English and Scottish, venture to 'pacify' and 'civilise' Ulster"

It is widely accepted that the goal of The Plantation was to create an English speaking, Protestant region in Ireland loyal to Britain. To suggest that this would "civilise" Ulster is a highly subjective and one-sided claim which does not meet the standards of Wikipedia. My correction was simply factual and should not have been removed.

The following point is wrong. The legal right of ALL Irish landowners were expropriated following the rebellion of Cahir O'Doherty of Inishowen in 1608.

"Despite the fact that the Plantation had decreed that the Irish population be displaced, this did not generally happen in practice. Firstly, some 300 native landowners who had taken the English side in the Nine Years War were rewarded with land grants.[34]"

The following point amounts to the displacement of native Irish landowners but is given as a evidence that "displacement did not generally happen in practice"!

"Secondly, the majority of the Gaelic Irish remained in their native areas, but were now only allowed worse land than before the plantation. They usually lived close to and even in the same townlands as the settlers and the land they had farmed previously."

The following paragraph is wrong. This can be easily established by researching the approximate date when towns in Ulster were established. The vast majority were established before the plantation. The list I included of important towns and cities established before the plantation was helpful and gave a more balanced view of this period. It should not have been removed.

"There had been very few towns in Ulster before the Plantation.[41][42] Most modern towns in the province can date their origins back to this period. Plantation towns generally have a single broad main street ending in a square – often known as a "diamond",[43] The Diamond, Donegal being an attractive example."

Dear IP editor, your edits were clearly politically motivated, as also appreciated by your edits elsewhere (e.g. Countries of the United Kingdom, itself appropriately reverted). Not only did you introduce non-neutral language, you also deleted significant portions of existing encyclopaedic content while failing to support your biased assertions with appropriate citations. If you wish to review Plantation of Ulster and its contents, that's a perfectly reasonable endeavour, but please discuss changes in its talk page before drastically worsening the article's condition. Bear in mind this is an encyclopaedia. Kindly, FoCuS contribs; talk to me! 15:30, 5 January 2016 (UTC)

Dear FoCuSandLeArN,

Can we focus our discussion on the politically motivated and contradictory points included in The Plantation of Ulster, specifically the points I have raised above. Can you deal with those individually and in detail rather than attacking me personally?

Please raise the matters in the article's talk page. I reversed your edits per my vandalism patrolling duties. Nobody is attacking you. Wikipedia is a collaborative effort, which you need to understand. Your personal views don't have any bearing here. I won't engage in editing the Plantation of Ulster article. Hi FoCuSandLeArN. Please approve and release the page Mi-Ki Choong as it has been available in Wikipedia for a long time and I do not understand why you deleted it now. The contents are not copyrighted from the blog spot http://keehuachee.blogspot.com/2015/09/part-2-entrepreuner-miki-choong-won.html nor copied directly from http://www.biographies.net/bio/m/0h1f_j7. For your information, we gave permission to the person to write about Mi-Ki Choong in his blog. It was indeed citied by him if you see at the bottom page. Please release the article as I am having a tough time getting this through. I just wanted my work done. Thank you for your understanding.

Look, I've already provided you with assistance regarding this issue. The article was clearly copied from the specified page, there is no denying it. I compared the page to the article side by side. WP:COPY provides extensive information on what to do in such cases. Your personal permissions have nothing to do with the encyclopaedia; you need to understand that on Wikipedia we need to make sure we don't break any copyright laws, and in such cases we need to follow a very strict protocol. The deleting admin, RHaworth, can confirm this. With 3 previous deletions, this article has very slim chances of ever being created. Either follow the rules or we won't be able to help you. Nomination of Logan Bohbot page for deletion

Hi FoCuSandLeArN,

The reason you gave for nomination for deletion of Logan Bohbot's page has been addressed and the article has been reduced to stub to give editors the chance to expand on it. Are you still holding on to your nomination for deletion? I would appreciate a reply on my talk page.Cleojason (talk) 09:34, 9 January 2016 (UTC)

Yes, the deletion nomination rationale was failure to meet our notability guidelines. Best, FoCuS contribs; talk to me! 14:42, 9 January 2016 (UTC)

Thank you for your comment but I have a question...

Thank you for your note but could not really understand what you mean by "Wouldn't be able to assess his notability in Turkey." I will be grateful if you can let me know what I would need to add to make it acceptable. Many thanks! Meltio (talk) 22:45, 9 January 2016 (UTC)

My comment was directed towards reviewers fluent in Turkish, who might be able to assess his notability. Best, FoCuS contribs; talk to me! 23:52, 9 January 2016 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Valencia High School (Placentia, California), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page University of Nevada. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
