"case fix"
As discussed, a very experienced user seems to be changing a number of cases [1], [2]. Including for FAs [3]. I counted over 750 similar cases in their last 1,000 edits. I am not "certain" that each of these is a grammatical error as I didn't check each one, but every one I did check was, IMO, an error. I spotted no attempts to communicate on talk pages, and certainly not on the talk page of the FA in question. Am I over reacting to suggest that this approaches vandalism? Cheers Gog the Mild (talk) 19:12, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Gog the Mild, I wouldn't say that it amounts to vandalism, as I expect the user in question believes that what they are doing is an improvement (and thus, cannot be vandalism as we define it here). It may very well be disruptive though, I'll take a look. Cheers GirthSummit (blether) 19:19, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Gog the Mild:, if you saw any errors in my edits, or had a problem with me, shouldn't you have mentioned that to me before going to find an admin? Dicklyon (talk) 01:32, 14 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Dicklyon: You mean in a similar way to how you discussed possible changes to featured articles on their talk pages before making the changes? Pah. Gog the Mild (talk) 09:03, 14 April 2021 (UTC)
- And yes, I'm willing to stipulate that my behavior was "not ideal" back in 2015. That was a long time ago. I'm much better at keeping these discussion non-personal and civil in recent years. So please do point out any edits that you disagree with. Complaining about the sheer volume of my editing seems inappropriate. Say which ones you checked, and why you think my edits may have been in error. Dicklyon (talk) 01:37, 14 April 2021 (UTC)
- Since you linked an FA about Calais, please review the usage stats from books. Dicklyon (talk) 01:39, 14 April 2021 (UTC)
- Dicklyon, I'm going to reply on your talk, since we started this discussion there. GirthSummit (blether) 05:37, 14 April 2021 (UTC)
- Gog the Mild, just drawing your attention to the fact that a discussion about these edits has been started at WT:MILHIST. I've asked Dicklyon on his talk to stop making these changes until that discussion is concluded. GirthSummit (blether) 06:18, 14 April 2021 (UTC)
- So we have an editor running to an admin before attempting to communicate with User:Dicklyon, the admin then waving around the blockhammer before even (admittedly) looking at any of the details or advising communication. I don't care if reviewing an admin's articles fails WP:Involved on some technicality (I'm sure I'll be shown how it does), this is way too cozy to be taken seriously. Thank You
@Girth Summit:, I want to thank you for the advice and recommendations. For me this has been a real immersive learning experience. Now I will start off with an intensive practical study in MediaWiki coding, formatting, and editing, along with learning Wiki protocols, guidelines, and etiquette - front to back. I don't dare edit another dot on Wikipedia until I've got it sussed. I will need to adjust my natural writing style, based on personal experience, common sense, and intuition, and adapt myself to Wiki-Verifiability. I will get used to it after a bit of practice. I suppose the sandbox is the place for that(?). I have not even had a go at the sandbox yet, I take it this for creating draughts? In any case.. thanks once again. Cheers! NonhumanAnimalAutonomy (talk) 11:33, 18 April 2021 (UTC)
- NonhumanAnimalAutonomy, I'm glad to see you back. Yes, you can practice writing in your sandbox - that's good for figuring out the coding necessary for referencing, linking etc. You might consider running through WP:TUTORIAL or WP:ADVENTURE as well, which guide you through some of the basics.
- You're right - personal experience, common sense and intuition have no place in our writing here. Remember what we are: an encyclopedia. We summarise what the best, most reliable sources have to say about a subject. We don't put our opinions into our writing, we don't make subjective judgments, we don't try to construct arguments - we just summarise sources.
- I mostly write about buildings - a subject I'm interested in, but not passionate about. I describe them physically, I write about this history. I don't rely upon my own observations for the descriptions: I summarise other people's descriptions from archaeological guides, even for buildings I'm very familiar with and could describe more fully than those guides do. I also don't call them 'beautiful' or similar, even when the sources do - beauty is subjective, and we never make subjective statements in Wikipedia's voice. The closest I might come is saying something like "Architectural historian Madeup Nameson praises the building's "unique beauty", and notes that it is amongst the finest examples of early Georgian multi-storey carparks in the region". In other words - anything that is a matter of opinion needs to be attributed to the person whose opinion it is.
- Good luck and happy editing. GirthSummit (blether) 11:45, 18 April 2021 (UTC)
Are you around to block this Vandal editor?
Hi, are you around by chance to block this one? -> Special:Contributions/Puhpxf fhpx naq shpx CommanderWaterford (talk) 12:24, 18 April 2021 (UTC)
- CommanderWaterford, done. GirthSummit (blether) 12:31, 18 April 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you. 👍 CommanderWaterford (talk) 12:32, 18 April 2021 (UTC)
FYI...
this recent block of yours - thank you. Thought you might not know and maybe you do, but, anyway, at least some of this type of editing is an LTA, there's a private edit filter etc about it and also see this. Most of the related articles have now been at least auto-confirmed protected. Shearonink (talk) 20:58, 18 April 2021 (UTC)
- Shearonink, I didn't know - CW alerted me in the thread above, I checked and blocked. I'll keep an eye out for anything similar though, thanks for making me aware. Cheers GirthSummit (blether) 21:12, 18 April 2021 (UTC)
Re: Sockpuppet Activities of Ajhenson21
Good day Girth Summit. Forgive me for pressing this issue, but I seriously would like to have you guys look into the activities of Albe23413 and his sockpuppets. As I have discussed multiple times over a few hours ago, the editing pattern is eerily similar and the fact that Ajhenson21 maintains so many sockpuppet accounts as Albe23413 has been documented to do, gives me more reason to believe that they are one and the same person and that Ajhenson21 is not a puppetmaster but is actually a sockpuppet of Albe23413. As a last point, it bears stressing that I did not report his sockpuppets, which I have been doing against Albe23413 and his sockpuppets, and yet I became the subject of his troll account Gardo Versace 16. I believe all these taken together clearly make out the case for Ajhenson21 being a sockpuppet of Albe23413. Hoping that swift action be made on this request. Warmest regards Gardo Versace (talk) 17:48, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
- Gardo Versace, I'm in the wrong timezone for swift action on this, but I will take a look tomorrow if no one else has. GirthSummit (blether) 19:41, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) @Gardo Versace: All of the mentioned accounts had been blocked meanwhile. CommanderWaterford (talk) 20:31, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Girth Summit: I appreciate it man, thank you. And thank you CommanderWaterford for acting on this. GS, I hope you can look into putting the pages he edits under protection for far longer so that he'd be discouraged from creating another sockpuppet account. Can we also look at linking Ajhenson21 and ALbe23413's activities, as we can say without a shadow of doubt that they are perfect quacks of one another. Very many thanks to the two of you. Warmest regards Gardo Versace (talk) 21:22, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
- Hey guys, sorry if I keep pressing the issue, but take a look at [[4]]. In that diff, the user that did that to me was Jricaplaza. What's so suspicious about it was that the said user very eager to implicate me as a sockpuppet of Ajhenson21. Again, that despite the fact that I have not had any interaction with these accounts. A weird plot twist there is that it turns out Jricaplaza, who was eager to pin me as a sockpuppet of Ajhenson21 was actually a sockpuppet of the same account. It can be surmised that I was targeted for no other reason but to get back at me. Honestly, what happened creeps me out. I mean I fear the next thing he might do is try to track my location and inflict harm on me and those close to me. I am hoping for a more permanent solution to this problem considering that I have been inactive and yet am still a target of attacks. Warmest regards.
- GeneralNotability, L235 - I wonder if I could ask for a bit of help tidying up this SPI case. I blocked Gardo Versace when I was tidying up Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Ajhenson21/, because I noticed that Drmies had tagged GV's userpage, but hadn't blocked. I made the assumption that he'd just forgotten to hit the block button, and since the account hadn't edited since the tag, I thought blocking was just a bit of non-controversial tidying up. I then noticed that GV was the oldest account, so requested that Ajhenson21's case be merged into Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Gardo Versace/Archive. However, per the discussion at User talk:Gardo Versace, it seems that the tag was a mistake in the first place, so I've unblocked.
- I'm now looking to disentangle the SPIs. It's not as simple as moving from one to the other though, because the November 2017 investigation was GV, and they were CU blocked for it at the time. I think that all the stuff from 2020 onwards needs to be moved though. Don't want to make the changes without speaking to you guys first - apologies for the mess. GirthSummit (blether) 10:22, 18 April 2021 (UTC)
- Just adding that it's been suggested at Blablubb's talk that the master might be Albe23413, which predates Ajhenson21 and would be the earliest account that I'm aware of. GirthSummit (blether) 14:48, 18 April 2021 (UTC)
- Hoo boy, this is going to be a WP:HISTSPLIT. I'll take care of it - this is not exactly a simple procedure. For future reference - you basically delete the whole page, undelete the revs you want to go to the other page, move, undelete the remaining revisions - but this is both rare and complicated, so I'm always happy to do it if you need it done. GeneralNotability (talk) 00:54, 19 April 2021 (UTC)
- Done, must remember that spihelper can be a little too "helpful" in these cases (ended up making more work when I had it rename one of the cases). GeneralNotability (talk) 01:23, 19 April 2021 (UTC)
- GeneralNotability, thanks - really appreciate the help there. GirthSummit (blether) 06:52, 19 April 2021 (UTC)

DYK for Plunton Castle
On 19 April 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Plunton Castle, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Plunton Castle, although well defended by gun loops, a ditch and a 9-foot (2.7 m) wall, had a very rare security flaw in the arrangement of its ground-floor rooms? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Plunton Castle. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Plunton Castle), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
Request
Hi Girth, saw you on the list of recently active admins. Could you block Rosguill 6, Rosguill 7, Rosguill 8, Rosguill 9, and Blablubbs 3? DanCherek (talk) 05:41, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
- DanCherek, I think they're all blocked now (I got one of them, the rest were already blocked by the time I got there). Thanks for keeping an eye out. GirthSummit (blether) 05:45, 20 April 2021 (UTC)

No worries. It helped me to understand how you weren't understanding me. Uncle G (talk) 11:14, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
The source that I was reading was a 1967 issue of The Motor talking about the A615 in the future, which is on its face not a good redirect target. ☺ Uncle G (talk) 11:23, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
DYK for Kirkcudbright Tolbooth
On 20 April 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Kirkcudbright Tolbooth, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that in 1805, Jean Maxwell was sentenced to be imprisoned for a year at Kirkcudbright Tolbooth for pretending to be a witch? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Kirkcudbright Tolbooth. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Kirkcudbright Tolbooth), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Your offer
I'm taking you at your word, and so that I don't overburden Gog, I have finished Dominican nationality law and Grenadian nationality law, both of which need to have British English. Thank you so much for offering. SusunW (talk) 18:25, 4 April 2021 (UTC)
- SusunW, cool - I'll take a read through tomorrow. It will be nice to work with you again :) GirthSummit (blether) 19:19, 4 April 2021 (UTC)
- Yay! It's hard enough to figure out the legal history, but when you throw in the language component, my head starts exploding. Feel free to make any changes to make it clearer and overall just make it British English. Thank you so much. I truly appreciate the help. SusunW (talk) 19:26, 4 April 2021 (UTC)
- Done the first one, comments on the talk page; I'll look at the second one once you've replied there. Cheers GirthSummit (blether) 10:49, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
- I have one more ready now Guyanese nationality law. I had the Dutch part done, but was waiting for Fransman's book to arrive to do the British nationality piece. I cannot say how much I appreciate your help. SusunW (talk) 18:26, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
- SusunW, I've done the Granadian and Guyanese articles now - didn't find much to change in the latter, you're getting good at BrEng! I'd be delighted to keep doing these, very happy to be able to help in a small way with this project. GirthSummit (blether) 07:16, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
- Bless you. Thank you so much. That will be a big help and I totally appreciate it. SusunW (talk) 12:56, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

- Congrats! I see the magic wand waver ;) was wiggling it around. I haven't any nominations still pending right now, which for me is unusual, but I just don't have time to do reviews and do all the research and writing for this project. I appreciate you.
- SusunW I've gone through the Jamaican article, didn't see any BrEng issues, just one or two typos/tweaks, please revert any you disagree with. GirthSummit (blether) 06:48, 8 April 2021 (UTC)

Okay, I am done with Kittitian and Nevisian nationality law hard, hard, hard. So, I noticed that St. Kitts and Nevis is not listed on the Commonwealth template (see bottom of the page) or in the Nationality laws of [this article. Am I missing something about it? They are a monarchy, their Queen is Elizabeth II, and Fransman says since 1983, "an independent Commonwealth Country as mentioned in the BNA 1981 schedule 3" (page 1193). I added it to the template, but don't understand where that list of nationality laws is pulling from in the article? Sorry, but as you know, technical stuff is not my gig. SusunW (talk) 18:12, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
- Hi SusunW, I should start by saying that I'm not much of an expert on the Commonwealth. I just looked at Member states of the Commonwealth of Nations, and I see the entry for Saint Kitts and Nevis has a footnote saying that they're not a member of the Commonwealth Foundation. The nationality laws in the infobox is coming from Template:Commonwealth citizen - I don't know enough about the subject though to say whether St Kitts and Nevis should be added there, might be worth talking to the template's creator? I'll run through the new article now. GirthSummit (blether) 09:50, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
- Finished Saint Lucian nationality law if you have time to look it over, I'd appreciate it. SusunW (talk) 20:27, 14 April 2021 (UTC)
- Finished Vincentian nationality law. IMO the most fascinating one I have written. Our article on the history of SVG is awful. Would that someone would take an interest and fix it, especially since I feel like lots of people will be looking it up because of the volcano erupting now. Or maybe not, what do I know? Anyway, if you have time to look it over, I'd appreciate it. SusunW (talk) 16:45, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
- SusunW, I'll try to get onto it tomorrow. The sun is shining, and it's warm enough to sit outside with just one wooly jumper on, so I'm feeling it might be glass of wine time! I think you're probably right about the history page, but I'm not sure I'll be the one to do that - don't think I'd have the sources to tackle that. Mind you, I know a few people who do - maybe a project for the summer... GirthSummit (blether) 17:24, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
- Enjoy it. Red or white? I am in and out all day, as I have to go by way of patio to get water or food (well, I could go through the house, but why?) It's a lovely 28° here (typically means refreshing white). Methinks a wooly jumper would be far too much. Perhaps you can share the sources I found with those people who have time to tackle it. If I weren't so focused on this project, I'd work on it, but then I'd never finish this one. SusunW (talk) 17:57, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
- SusunW, 28? I remember it being 27 once in Edinburgh, about 10 years ago. I reckon it got up to 15 this afternoon, but the sky is clear so I'm expecting frost in the morning.
- Always white for me. We had a nice bottle if picpoul de pinet, looking to come in now because my fingers are going numb. :) GirthSummit (blether) 19:39, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
- "I remember it being 27 once" ... "got up to 15" ... I would die. Might have lasted 10 minutes outside at that temp, but probably not. I'm an almost always white as well. Very rarely will do a Malbec or Shiraz, but only in the dead of winter. (Unless of course I'm adding wine to whatever I'm cooking, which I am known to do.) SusunW (talk) 19:50, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
- SusunW, it's funny how people get used to different temps. My friend Jose Guilabert was from Madrid, but worked with me in Edinburgh. He said he always felt cold there - even in summer - and always wrapped up. For him, 30 was comfortable, normal. He loved Edinburgh, but hated the cold. Me - if it's 30, I want to stay in the shade, not move around, I just can't take it. 15 and sunny is my ideal day. 20 is OK, but 25 and I start getting itchy and looking for a place to cool down. As a species, we are remarkably adaptable creatures - we can get used to almost anything. As individuals,I'm not so sure. GirthSummit (blether) 20:07, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
- True dat. I am with your friend from Madrid. I start putting on a sweater at 25. 35-40s is my look for a shady spot and plan water stops stage. Much above that and I must be still with lots of water nearby. Living in the tropics takes planning. SusunW (talk) 20:23, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
- Hey SusunW, I've been through that - no major points, just a few BrEng changes and obvious typos. One thing that I noticed was that the final paragraph was talking about CUCKs - I think it's meant to be CUKCs, it might be worth checking other articles to see whether I missed the same error in the earlieir ones?
- Very interesting indeed! GirthSummit (blether) 15:33, 18 April 2021 (UTC)
- Tis why I love someone checking behind me. You see things I don't because I know what I meant to write. :) Truly appreciate it. SusunW (talk) 15:38, 18 April 2021 (UTC)
- P.S. I ran through the others quickly and CTR F doesn't show the transpositions anywhere. But, perhaps if they are, someone will come along and fix it. SusunW (talk) 15:58, 18 April 2021 (UTC)
- SusunW, I'm sure any reader will figure out what you're talking about anyway, most people probably wouldn't notice the typo, especially in all caps. What's next then - can you get on with the main article about women's nationality? GirthSummit (blether) 17:11, 18 April 2021 (UTC)

Very rarely will do a Malbec or Shiraz, but only in the dead of winter. (Unless of course I'm adding wine to whatever I'm cooking, which I am known to do.) SusunW (talk) 19:50, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
- Finished Saint Lucian nationality law if you have time to look it over, I'd appreciate it. SusunW (talk) 20:27, 14 April 2021 (UTC)
Not even close. Working on T&T now, then on to the rest of the Dutch and French colonies of the Americas. Haven't even started Africa, Asia, Europe or Oceania. The goal is to create a table showing when women first lost their nationality and then regained it (if they did) and then another article which will discuss the feminist movement to change the laws all over the world so that they no longer lost their nationality. Truly, I think the project will take all of this year and probably some of next. SusunW (talk) 17:24, 18 April 2021 (UTC)
- SusunW, ye gods and small fishes - that's a big undertaking. My offer holds good irrespective of how long this takes, please drop me a note as and when you want a second pair of eyes; my responsiveness might drop off for a while though, term starts again tomorrow. (I don't wanna go back to schooool!) GirthSummit (blether) 17:28, 18 April 2021 (UTC)
- I try to be judicious in my use of helpers and not overburden any of them too much. After T&T I think I'm done with the British set for the Americas and I'll need Ian to help me with the Dutch and French (especially the French, which is the hardest language for me). But, as the scope is so broad, you can easily see that time is not of the essence. When you get to things you will. When I can write them, I will. Eventually, we'll get there and I truly, truly appreciate the help. SusunW (talk) 17:35, 18 April 2021 (UTC)
- Okay, finally done with Trinidadian and Tobagonian nationality law. Methinks it was good that I had already done so much of the Caribbean before I got to the stone soup of T&T. Heck, even with that, we throw in some Latvians. When you have time, I'd appreciate your looking it over. Thanks so very much. SusunW (talk) 14:53, 20 April 2021 (UTC)

DYK for Hills Tower
On 23 April 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Hills Tower, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Hills Tower (pictured) was built in three stages, around 1527, 1598, and 1721, each time by a different Edward Maxwell? Returned disruptive Cameroon editing
Hi Girth Summit, in August 2020 you blocked Familyleave for disruptive editing on Religion in Cameroon. Following this, they started using IPs. These were just rangeblocked by El C (Special:Contributions/2601:983:300:67B0:0:0:0:0/64), following which Familyleave returned to their account to continue their edit war [5][6]. Is there a need for a new EW or SPI report, or can action be taken without these? CMD (talk) 02:37, 25 April 2021 (UTC)

Re: Wikipedia sockpuppets of Albe23413
Good day Girth Summit! Would like to clarify something. I recently checked the page listing the sockpuppets of Albe 23413 and was surprised that my name is listed as a confirmed sockpuppet of his. Would it be possible to have my name removed from that list? It's very ironic that my name would be listed there considering: a. I reported most of the sockpuppets listed there; and b. My account is way older than Albe23413's to be a sockpuppet. Hoping for a positive response on this regard. Thank you and warmest regards. Gardo Versace (talk) 13:05, 26 April 2021 (UTC)
- Gardo Versace, hi - I checked just now and I'm not seeing your user page listed - can you check again, and make sure you're not looking at an old cached version of the page? Cheers GirthSummit (blether) 17:35, 26 April 2021 (UTC)

Update
There is some progress at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Clarification_and_Amendment#Clarification_request:_Antisemitism_in_Poland. Perhaps you could check and comment whether you think this is going in the good direction (I think it is, if roughly, and I did raise some issues, particularly stressing they need to clarify or change the 'academically focused' wording - see my section there). It may be a good time to comment there, arbitrators are reasonably active in this issue right now. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 07:18, 4 May 2021 (UTC)

Arbitration motion regarding Antisemitism in Poland
The Arbitration Committee has resolved by motion that:
Remedy 5 of the Antisemitism in Poland case ("Article sourcing expectations") is amended to read as follows: The Arbitration Committee advises that administrators may impose "reliable-source consensus required" as a discretionary sanction on all articles on the topic of Polish history during World War II (1933-45), including the Holocaust in Poland. On articles where "reliable-source consensus required" is in effect, when a source that is not a high quality source (an article in a peer-reviewed scholarly journals, an academically focused book by a reputable publisher, and/or an article published by a reputable institution) is added and subsequently challenged by reversion, no editor may reinstate the source without first obtaining consensus on the talk page of the article in question or consensus about the reliability of the source in a discussion at the Reliable Sources Noticeboard.

- Hi StarshipSLS - I'm not sure exactly what you mean here. Certainly, you shouldn't put a redirect to draft space from article space; if it's something else you mean, feel free to give me a link and I'll take a look. Cheers GirthSummit (blether) 19:35, 23 May 2021 (UTC)

- StarshipSLS, sorry, I still don't know what you mean. Can you give an example of what you're talking about? Thanks GirthSummit (blether) 20:23, 23 May 2021 (UTC)
- @StarshipSLS (talk page stalker) when any page is moved a redirect is created. This means that a draft. when moved to become a main space article, leaves a redirect behind it. A few users have the right to move articles without leaving a redirect. We can ignore that. FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 20:37, 23 May 2021 (UTC)

Edits to Unani
Hi Girth,
Got your message about the edits on the Unani page. I did provide a reliable reference pointing to the archived article on the wayback machine.
The reference features an interview that showcases the bias against Unani and other Indian traditional medicine by the IMA. When a broad statement claiming that a 1000+ year old traditional method is called quackery by a non-governmental, non-scientific body, it is important to highlight the context as well. The explanation and reference I provided adds this relevant context. What other references did you want? I can also add references to articles by critics. Or do you want me to rewrite the first paragraph to remove any potential controversy.
Please advice.
Thank you. Pkumar27 (talk) 06:57, 28 May 2021 (UTC)
- Pkumar27, I didn't see anything about bias in that interview. We do not interpret sources for ourselves, we summarise them. You must not write anything that is not explicitly supported by the source you cite. GirthSummit (blether) 07:10, 28 May 2021 (UTC)
Hi,
Ok, understood. I have added an edit with direct references to contextualize the opposition of the IMA - direct quotes used. Let the reader figure out the nuances.
Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pkumar27 (talk • contribs) 07:39, 28 May 2021 (UTC)
- Pkumar27, I see that your addition has been reverted already. I haven't read it, so don't have a view yet on whether it was an improvement on your first edit, but I suggest you start a talk page discussion and propose these changes and sourcing before making any further changes - they have been contested. Mcfnord guy
Check out his talk. Either the guy doesn't know my sister's gone, or he's pretending he doesn't know. Maybe it's better that he doesn't know so he's not unleashed to do whatever he goddamn pleases. Halo Jerk1 (talk) 14:58, 29 May 2021 (UTC)
- Halo Jerk1, I hope you know how sorry I am about your sister's death, and how deeply I sympathise with you for your loss.
- With regard to the aforementioned editor, they didn't ping me in their latest comment, so I would have no way of knowing they had made it had you not drawn my attention to it. I don't see any particular reason why they should be notified of your sister's death, and I don't particularly want to re-engage with them. I can't put myself in your shoes, and I wouldn't presume to tell you how to act in such a situation, but my own inclination would be to leave things as they are. If the user causes disruption, that will be noticed and they will be shown the door; if they don't, there is no reason for you or me to take an interest.
- Again, please accept my heartfelt condolences for your loss. GirthSummit (blether) 22:20, 29 May 2021 (UTC)
- Mr. Girth, I fucked up again, and at the expense of stopping wrong-doing that anyone who looks at the Wanderer case objectively can see. I'm just a burden to my sister's reputation now, it seems. Thank you for everything. Halo Jerk1 (talk) 02:05, 30 May 2021 (UTC)
Domoticz page
Hi. I was just adding the Domoticz page because it was really incredible that there were no mentions about Domoticz free software on wikipedia, when I've seen that the page existed, but was disable by you.
Domoticz is free open-source software, multiplatform, for home automation systems. It's one of the 3 most used open-source domotics controllers (Domoticz, openHAB, Home Assistant).
You said that the page seems to be an advertise... I have no experience to say if it's an advertise or not, I'm just a simple man using Domoticz software for my house, but I think that it makes not sense to advertise a free software, and what it's written in the original Domoticz page is correct, from my point of view.
Maybe you can explain what are the bad points in that page and I can correct it.
- Psubiaco The article Domoticz was deleted by a different administrator, some years ago, as unambiguous advertising. There is presently a draft, Draft:Domoticz, which is what I have commented on. I have made some notes on the problems with it in my decline of the draft, and I had some communication with its original author at their talkpage here. Basically, the article is written very promotionally, and the sourcing is weak. I hope that's helpful. GirthSummit (blether) 17:23, 31 May 2021 (UTC)
- Girth Summit You're right, maybe the sentence Domoticz is considered one of the market leaders in several product and platform comparisons is a bit irritating !!

- Charli 250, what do you mean by 'do his revenge in tennis too'? GirthSummit (blether) 12:22, 1 May 2021 (UTC)
Hi, I'm writing again because user Charli 250 apparently didn't learn anything today and his words about changing his behaviour apparently meant nothing as he continues to retract my and other users' edits in tennis articles, others have also pointed him out. I'm hoping it will be dealt with more harshly. I also noticed on his talk page that similar behavior happens on the German wikipedia and other users write similar wording. Greetings Gro456 Gro456 (talk) 20:30, 1 May 2021 (UTC)
- Gro456, please can you point to specific examples? Again, I don't want to wade through all of their edits from yesterday to identify problematic ones. GirthSummit (blether) 06:47, 2 May 2021 (UTC)
Of course, this was in the article 2021 Mutua Madrid Open - Women's Singles at 20:20, they were reversed my edits, then he entered them as his. User LH7605 brought the same problem to his attention. Gro456 (talk) 11:58, 2 May 2021 (UTC)
- Hi, after your ban for disruptive editing and your long and clear explanation of what they were doing wrong, Charli 250 continues to follow this very unique delete-re-insert-policy. See: [8] and [9], [10] and [11] (always listed in pairs, the re-do and then the re-re-edit following). I am sure that there are more examples but even these seem to be plenty, as it is a clear form of edit-warring, even more so considering that it doesn't happen by accident and that Charli 250 at this point knows exactly what they do. Can you as an admin have another look at it? Thanks and best, --LH7605 (talk) 10:19, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
- Even more, just ater I wrote my message to you [12] and [13]. Also, for full disclosure, it is no secrete that I have had discussions in the past with them. Still, my point that they are doing edit-warring stands. Best, LH7605 (talk) 10:44, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
I see that you were the admin that interacted with this user prior and warned him for his disruptive editing. This seems to still be continuing. Look at his recent editing history on 2021 French Open – Women's Singles. Adamtt9 (talk) 13:35, 30 May 2021 (UTC)
- Adamtt9, blimey - I just looked at the article history there, and had to scroll down a long way to find any edits by Charli - from a cursory glance, it doesn't look like they were the only one doing that sort of thing there, I see other people reverting then reinstating, though at least some of the others were using edit summaries. Is that how editing usually happens in ongoing tennis tournaments? WP:LIVESCORES and WP:NOTNEWS would seem relevant here - folk should just wait until the match is over then update the article in a single edit. GirthSummit (blether) 15:45, 31 May 2021 (UTC)
- For some reason, people on the tennis articles seem to act like they own all the articles, that they need to be the first person to enter the score in. There's been loads of conversations the Tennis Project has had with these users about waiting for the match to end before putting in the scores, but you give it a day and they go right back to doing it. But I guess I'll just keep my eyes on it if it starts becoming disruptive. Adamtt9 (talk) 17:43, 31 May 2021 (UTC)

Ray Strachan
Hello,
I see that you proposed the deletion of the page for Ray Strachan, and blocked his user ID. He seems to be making edits from an IP - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/156.146.99.71 - what should be done about that ? -- Beardo (talk) 04:21, 30 May 2021 (UTC)
- Beardo, it looks like a clear-cut case of block evasion through IP - I've blocked the IP for a month. GirthSummit (blether) 07:46, 30 May 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you. -- Beardo (talk) 15:21, 30 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Beardo, it appears this user has continued adding Ray Strachan to casts of shows he is not a part of. He is now using a slightly different IP Special:Contributions/156.146.99.69. I'm assuming the same block should be made for this IP as well. Rmaloney3 (talk) 16:44, 4 June 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks Rmaloney3, deleted their draft and blocked. I can't see anything else on the immediate range at the moment, but let me know if you see anything else crop up and I'll check more widely. Cheers GirthSummit (blether) 17:52, 4 June 2021 (UTC)

Could you consider User_talk:El_C#500/30?. In the year past he has handled a bunch of requests related to this motion. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 00:51, 31 May 2021 (UTC)
- Piotrus, I'll take a look at this later today when I'm on my PC - don't fancy handling Arbitration Enforcement stuff on mobile, it makes it too easy for me to screw up. GirthSummit (blether) 08:44, 31 May 2021 (UTC)
- No hurry. I'd appreciate your thoughts if the very quack-quacky socks (IMHO) are worth reporting to SPI? (context). Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 09:03, 31 May 2021 (UTC)
- Piotrus, I don't know the subject area well enough to recognise socks immediately - if you'd be willing to suggest a master to compare with I could investigate. GirthSummit (blether) 09:18, 31 May 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Piotrus, I've applied ECP to Stolperstein as a logged AE action. Ymblanter seems to have already taken care of the other article. With regards to the potential socking, without a potential master to compare with I'm not in a position to comment; if you recognise a pattern, feel free to suggest a master and I'll take a look, or just report at SPI. Cheers GirthSummit (blether) 16:20, 31 May 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you. For the potential master, see the context link above? Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 06:13, 1 June 2021 (UTC)
- Piotrus, ah, sorry - missed that link. I'll take a look. GirthSummit (blether) 06:14, 1 June 2021 (UTC)
- So, I've looked at the contributions of the relevant accounts, and don't have much to say. There's an obvious common interest, but I'm not seeing anything I could hang my hat on that screams sock. I am not too familiar with the master however; someone with more familiarity with them might see things that I am missing. An SPI would be the way to go if you think it needs investigating properly - I'd let someone else handle the case, in hopes that someone who's dealt with them before would pick it up. Cheers GirthSummit (blether) 10:16, 1 June 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks. Usually 500/30 works better for most accounts with only a few edits. Which reminds me, last few days so a bunch of new accounts suddenly appear and revert war at Jan Żaryn . That probably falls under ASP case too (right-wing Polish politician/historian who has some controversial remarks/views about Polish-Jewish topics). Can we slap 500/30 there as well? Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 06:44, 3 June 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Piotrus, can I just check what you mean by the first comment - I think I applied 500/30, did I goof up somehow? I'll take a look at Jan Zaryn now... GirthSummit (blether) 17:54, 4 June 2021 (UTC)
- Hmm. Based on a quick skim of the recent back-and-forth, I'm not sure how effective 30/500 would be at Zaryn - only two of the participants would have been affected. I'd consider a period of full protection, until the ongoing RfC is closed, if the disruption continues - ping me if anyone else attempts to add that stuff without gaining consensus. Cheers GirthSummit (blether) 18:08, 4 June 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks, you did not goof anywhere, sorry if I wasn't clear. So far still quiet... Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 06:21, 5 June 2021 (UTC)

Protection of Stolperstein page
I don't think this is an appropriate protection. The article barely mentions anything under Arbcom sanctions (only 3 mentions of "Poland"). Just locking every article that is tangentially related is not a viable approach, it just drives away good faith editors. If there is a temporary disruption, I can see the value in temporary protection but not indefinite. Checking the article history, there are many constructive edits being made by IPs and non-autoconfirmed editors such as this one. (t · c) buidhe 07:09, 6 June 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Buidhe, thanks for reaching out. The Arbcom remedy prohibits IPs and new accounts from editing in this subject area at all, so the question of whether some of the edits are constructive is probably moot - this hinges on whether the article is related to that topic area.
- The recent editing there which my attention was drawn to certainly fell within that topic area, in my view, and while I'm not the most experienced admin in dealing with this topic (far from it), that seems to be enough to justify the use of sanctions. I'd be happy to have this reviewed by other admins however, if you feel strongly about it? Girth Summit (blether) 09:13, 6 June 2021 (UTC)
- I've opened a thread at AN asking for a review of the protection. No concerns from me about lifting it if that's what the vibe is there. Cheers Girth Summit (blether) 12:49, 6 June 2021 (UTC)

- Following a Request for Comment the Book namespace was deprecated.
- Wikimedia previously used the IRC network Freenode. However, due to changes over who controlled the network with reports of a forceful takeover by several ex-staff members, the Wikimedia IRC Group Contacts decided to move to the new Libera Chat network. It has been reported that Wikimedia related channels on Freenode have been forcibly taken over if they pointed members to Libera. There is a migration guide and Wikimedia discussions about this.
- After a Clarification request, the Arbitration Committee modified Remedy 5 of the Antisemitism in Poland case. This means sourcing expectations are a discretionary sanction instead of being present on all articles. It also details using the talk page or the Reliable Sources Noticeboard to discuss disputed sources.

Adam Badlwin
Ok, maybe I to stupid to understand Wikipedia, but how is reading with your own eyes, not a reliable source? He retweeted it, that's a fact, that can't be denied. And just because maybe no one else might be aware enough to write it down at that time (until he deleted the tweet, which, again is still viewable via the web archive), it can't be added to the article - even though it shows that he did more then just some interviews? That's... wow. --Modgamers (talk) 19:42, 14 June 2021 (UTC)
- Modgamers, no one is saying that you are stupid. However, it's a primary source, which you are interpreting and describing. We don't do that, especially not on BLPs. Best Girth Summit (blether) 19:50, 14 June 2021 (UTC)

Counter-Vandalism Unit
Good evening Girth Summit. I'm Ken. I've been a Wikipedian for the past eight and a half months. I would like to be graduated from Counter-Vandalism Unit Academy. Will you take me as your student? Waiting for your response. Best wishes. Ken Tony Shall we discuss? 16:52, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Ken, thanks for expressing an interest. I'm afraid that I'm in the final term of the school year, writing reports on children's progress and preparing for next year, and I have a limited amount of on-wiki time at the moment, so I'm not taking on new students as of right now. I'd suggest that you take a look at the CVUA page and see whether there is anyone else who might be accepting students at the moment. Girth Summit (blether) 18:31, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
- I want to know what jurisdiction allows you to be around children. EEng 23:25, 24 June 2021 (UTC)

Thanks!
Yes, I'd love whatever help you can give me! Every time I turn around I discover something I don't know. I just a few weeks ago had Seraphimblade walking me through closing an AE. :D I closed that ANI and thought...huh. I'm sure I have to notify the editor in question...is there a template? Is there a log? —valereee (talk) 20:46, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
- Hey Valereee - yeah, I stayed away from AE enforcement for a long time because I was afraid of screwing up! El C walked me through it in the end. So, I think we've got a bit of a headache here - maybe Drmies can suggest a workaround? The first step to applying discretionary sanctions is checking that the user has been notified of them - my understanding is that the only acceptable form of notification is one of those passive-aggressive green templates being placed on their talk within the last six months (or an indication from them that they are aware, usually accompanied by a request not to template them). Normally, once you've checked that, you log your action at Wikipedia:Arbitration_enforcement_log (go to the contents, click on Biographies of Living Persons, and make a note saying what you've done), but I don't think that will fly in this case. Without community consensus to TBan, I'm not sure this is valid. Maybe the good doctor will have an idea... Girth Summit (blether) 21:04, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
- Damn. I was afraid of this. Our instructions feel so opaque to me. They're both ridiculously detailed and not complete. —valereee (talk) 21:07, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
- Valereee, yeah - I know that feeling. I'm sure it's recoverable - even if the TBan has to be lifted as out-of-process, any further problematic editing would be an obvious justification for a straight-up block, and admins are allowed to require that a TBan be accepted as an unblock condition, so... Girth Summit (blether) 21:10, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
- I need a flowchart for this. —valereee (talk) 21:59, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
- Valereee, you know, that's not a bad idea. I found the flowchart at NPP invaluable when I was first doing NPP, and still refer back to it occasionally. Back in the day (before I retrained as a teacher, and long before I started editing here), I used to make flowcharts professionally for processing geophysical data with different software packages. Maybe it's time to dust off the old skills... Girth Summit (blether) 22:10, 24 June 2021 (UTC)

- Valereee, I might do that over the summer. I used to use Microsoft Visio, which (according to our article on it) is still a thing, but I'm not sure how easy it will be to get access to it - I doubt my current employer (a primary school!) has a subscription. Maybe there is some freeware that does something similar - I'll put it on my mental 'to do' list. If nothing else, the process of making it will improve my understanding of the process: as I have found time and again in teaching, getting Ahab to explain to Beatrice how something works will find and fill the holes in Ahab's understanding :) Girth Summit (blether) 22:19, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
- The amount of stuff various WP projects will get you access to is sometimes surprising...I wonder who would know whether WP can give you access to Microsoft Visio? —valereee (talk) 22:28, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
- Valereee, very possibly - maybe we have institutional access! I'd been thinking though that my partner might have it - she's an academic, so if the University of York has a license, I can probably do it on her laptop. Failing that, I'll mooch around the library and helpdesk until someone offers a suggestion. Girth Summit (blether) 22:34, 24 June 2021 (UTC)

- Levivich, yep: for some reason, it's a meerkat who is also a Russian oligarch. It's one of a very few advertising campaigns I have genuine affection for. I mean, it's been running since I was in my twenties; they send you cute cuddly toys (handy gifts for random nephews) when you buy insurance; they even went to the trouble of setting up a parallel website where you really could compare meerkats. I struggle to explain why it's funny to someone who doesn't know it - but it is. The advertising folk in that meeting earned their crust. Girth Summit (blether) 00:56, 25 June 2021 (UTC)

A query
Hello, sorry to bother you. Yesterday I blocked 139.0.206.214 for evading previous blocks and for creating disruption on the talk pages of blocked socks. But then they began making absurd unblock requests, almost threatening to accept those. Although they were using their user talk page to appeal their block(s), I felt that they were abusing it by making such requests, and hence disabled their talk page access. I would like ask you if it was right for me to revoke TPA because I actually don't want to disallow them from discussing their block. --Ashleyyoursmile! 05:44, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
- Ashleyyoursmile, I see they threatened to call the police if they aren't unblocked - that's a pretty obvious abuse, you were right to revoke access. It's a very short block, they'll probably be back soon - if this has been going on for a while, I'd consider extending the block. Girth Summit (blether) 05:49, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
- Girth Summit, thank you very much for the advice. Hope you have a great day. Ashleyyoursmile! 05:52, 30 June 2021 (UTC)

hypothetically
So, say I've been t-banned from apples due to my tendency to lose neutrality when discussing them. I'm interested in proving that I can indeed learn to be neutral around them, so my work at Simple and Commons focuses heavily on apples. I do good work in both places, and am not disruptive, even around apples, though I do still tend to want to polish them up a bit. They're so pretty when they're polished. Do I need to check that any files I work on at Commons are not currently being used in my topic ban area on enwiki? And if a file includes apples in any way, does that mean no matter where the file is used on enwiki, I'm in violation? —valereee (talk) 12:46, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
- Valereee, sheesh. I'd need to read around policy pages to find out whether there's any guidance on this. Can you hypothetically outline how your edits on apples on commons are coming through on enwiki - is someone proxying for you, adding your newly uploaded apple-themed images to articles or something? - Or, to put that another way, if you're working on a file which is prominently used in our enwiki article on apples, and the only other wikis it's used at are ones you haven't edited, it might look like an attempt to game the system. Girth Summit (blether) 16:15, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
- I know, right? It could end up with someone thinking I'm gaming the system, even if I really am just trying to show I can edit around apples neutrally. Right, it definitely wouldn't look good if I were only or even primarily working on apple files that were used on enwiki articles that fell under the t-ban. But for instance, the image above is used at Peter Paul Rubens, at Adam and Eve, at The Fall of Man (Rubens), and at Heterosexuality. Not at any articles about apples. But clearly there are multiple apples in that image, and they're important to that image. Can I just pause here for a moment of appreciation for my choice of apples in this hypothetical?
- Re: proxying or gaming. As far as I can tell, I'm just working on apples files, plus many other unrelated files. Adding categories, checking captions for accuracy, tracking down and adding missing information, maybe nominating for deletion when it looks like it's dubious as own-work. I make my fixes and move on. Some of the apples files are currently used in articles covered by my t-ban. Some might later be added by someone else to an article covered by my t-ban, but I certainly hope not because I would ever ask someone to do that. :D —valereee (talk) 16:36, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
- Valereee, well, on the face of it, I don't think that would be covered by the ban, and if there isn't a problem with what you're doing then there isn't a problem: TBans are meant to stop disruption, they're not intended to be a means by which to stop someone doing what they like doing on another project. If there were problems with what you were doing however, and if someone took issue with it and approached you about it, since I know that you are a good faith editor, I know that you would discuss it with them, take the concerns on board, and maybe think about changing what you are doing if it is causing problems here. So yeah - if there's a problem, I'd probably go down the discussion route first before considering any adminnery. Girth Summit (blether) 18:00, 2 July 2021 (UTC)

- Valereee, you're always welcome - I similarly appreciate your approach. I'm kind of intrigued about what started this line of enquiry, but I'm happy to remain in the dark if I'm not needed. I do like a nice shiny apply though! As an aside: do you use WP:reply-link? The buttons seem to have changed colour, I seem to be seeing the French flag every time I try to reply to someone! Girth Summit (blether) 19:18, 2 July 2021 (UTC)
- I do use reply-link. Or at least...I use whichever one is actually in the gadgets (or wherever) section of preferences now rather than the contraband version Levivich had me using for a few thrill-filled weeks. —valereee (talk) 19:30, 2 July 2021 (UTC)

McKean
Wondering if you have any input on whether Charles McKean would have travelled the country himself when compiling a works such as Banff and Buchan? I'm not seeing an explanation of its compilation in its pages. I was going to work on his article to fill in some gaps, and if I can attribute large gaps in his life to this kind of study, it would be beneficial. - Seasider53 (talk) 20:28, 2 July 2021 (UTC)
- Seasider53, I've seen this, and will give informed(ish) opinion tomorrow. Girth Summit (blether) 21:50, 2 July 2021 (UTC)
- Seasider53, OK, I've got a but of time to address this properly. My partner is an academic historian, and she knew McKean slightly before he died, so what I'm going to say is what I'd describe as an informed guess. McKean travelled the country a lot, looking at buildings, taking photographs (lots of the photographs in those books are his own work), and spending time in local and national archives researching this history of the buildings he wrote about. It wouldn't have been possible for him to produce those books without travelling to the places in question, and my guess would be that he would have travelled to Banff and Buchan while writing the guidebook to the region; however, he would probably also have referred to existing notes he'd already made about the region on previous trips - I don't imagine that his first visit to Banff and Buchan was when he started writing that guidebook. I'm afraid that I don't know enough about his career to say how long those trips were, or whether they could account for any gaps in our article about him - we can't assume anything about that, we'd need a reliable source to spell it out for us. Does that make sense? Girth Summit (blether) 07:10, 3 July 2021 (UTC)
- Roger that. The key would be to know when he took the photos in the book, but I don't see much of a timeline happening in his article. - Seasider53 (talk)

- Consensus has been reached to delete all books in the book namespace. There was rough consensus that the deleted books should still be available on request at WP:REFUND even after the namespace is removed.
- An RfC is open to discuss the next steps following a trial which automatically applied pending changes to TFAs.
- IP addresses of unregistered users are to be hidden from everyone. There is a rough draft of how IP addresses may be shown to users who need to see them. This currently details allowing administrators, checkusers, stewards and those with a new usergroup to view the full IP address of unregistered users. Editors with at least 500 edits and an account over a year old will be able to see all but the end of the IP address in the proposal. The ability to see the IP addresses hidden behind the mask would be dependent on agreeing to not share the parts of the IP address they can see with those who do not have access to the same information. Accessing part of or the full IP address of a masked editor would also be logged. Comments on the draft are being welcomed at the talk page.
- The community authorised COVID-19 general sanctions have been superseded by the COVID-19 discretionary sanctions following a motion at a case request. Alerts given and sanctions placed under the community authorised general sanctions are now considered alerts for and sanctions under the new discretionary sanctions.
Potential unblocking of A.A Prinon
Hello there, we seemed to have made some progress with user A.A Prinon on his talk page. The user he was harassing is showing some forgiveness and I think there is some genuine understanding of what he did wrong. Just wanted to check in to make sure there were not any other concerns from your end before I implemented a topic ban and unblocked. I agree there are some maturity issues but it appears they have made some positive contributions in past. Sasquatch t|c 17:32, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
- Sasquatch, no concerns, I'm quite happy for you to unblock, especially since Lugnuts is happy for this course of action (given that he was the one the user was trying to annoy). Hopefully that'll be an end to that type of behaviour, and they will see that it only leads one way. Cheers Girth Summit (blether) 17:54, 6 July 2021 (UTC)

Help
Hi Girth - hope you are well. Thanks for your previous help here. This issue doesn't seem to be going away, and I'd appreciate if you could take a look at this. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 13:11, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
They are now giving false accusations on me. I am now never stalking their edits. And the diffs I provided on Sasquatch talk page indicates that they are stalking my ones. All the overlaps of me with Lugnuts are one day gap, so how can they be hounding. I am not causing them annoy, nor making any personal attacks. Thanks. — A.A Prinon Leave a dialogue 13:30, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
Actually, I first wanted help from you since Sasquatch isn't replying. But after going to your talk page, seeing that Lugnuts himself is seeking help. I haven't harassed them this time, so its not an actionable report. But they called me an idiot on their talk page (see revision history), which is a personal attack. I politely tried to solve dispute, but they are fighting with me. — A.A Prinon Leave a dialogue 13:39, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Girth. Please file under B for bin - this has now been sorted. Apologies for bringing you back into this! Enjoy the rest of the weekend. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 18:14, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
reply-link
No, don't use it. I've seen it in edit summaries but never clicked on the link until just now. But I don't think I need new functions, not now anyway. I have mass rollback and use it, and I think that AfD closer is pretty good. Did you know I used to revert without rollback, and place all the vandal warnings manually? Drmies (talk) 19:22, 2 July 2021 (UTC)
- Drmies, I think when I started out recent changes patrolling, I actually cooy/pasted the text of a warning template that I'd seen someone else put on someone's talk. I say copy/pasted: there's every chance I actually typed it out. We live and learn.
- I recommend reply link - it's really handy, especially in long threads. It's just unusually French after its last update. Girth Summit (blether) 21:49, 2 July 2021 (UTC)
- If you're talking about the "Ocorreu um erro ao responder! Por favor deixe um comentário na" that you can see on the WP:reply-link page, that isn't French. It looks more like Portuguese, maybe Spanish. Clovermoss (talk) 18:22, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
- Clovermoss, no, I'm talking about the colours of the buttons! I can't remember how it used to look exactly, but it's now a blue button, a white button, then a red button for 'reply', 'preview' and 'cancel'. It screams France at me! Girth Summit (blether) 19:06, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
- Well, they are the colours of the Flag of France, so that could have something to do with it. Clovermoss (talk) 19:09, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
- Clovermoss, yeah, that's what I was getting at: every time I use reply link, I see the French flag. It's not a problem, just seems a bit quirky. Girth Summit (blether) 20:28, 11 July 2021 (UTC)

Question on reverts
Hello. Apologies in advance for this random message. I have a quick question that I thought would be best handled by an administrator. An IP address has been making edits to the article on The Random Years, and has been adding information that is not cited by sources (and information that I frankly believe is not true at least from my own research).
I reverted their first edit and left an edit summary, and then I reverted their second edit and left a message on their talk page about it. They have done the same edit a third time. I know that I should not revert them a third time per WP:3RR, but I am not entirely sure what to proceed from here. What do you think should be done?
Again, sorry for the message. I was not entirely sure who to reach out to about this as I generally do not encounter this kind of situation. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration. I hope you have a great weekend! Aoba47 (talk) 05:36, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
- Aoba47, they're doing the same thing at multiple pages, and have never cited a ref or used a talk page, so I've blocked them temporarily. American TV shows are a very long way from my area of expertise, but if you have checked relevant sources and are confident that the changes they were making are wrong, this may be a form of subtle vandalism. Make another revert, referencing the talk page in the edit summary, then post on the article talk page, pointing to the source that supports the original content, and inviting people to point to a source which might contradict it, Girth Summit (blether) 07:49, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you for your response! Aoba47 (talk) 16:07, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
Apologies for yet another message. The IP address is still making these edits. I reverted one round of their editing and left a notice on their talk page, but they have made the same edits again. Aoba47 (talk) 00:07, 13 July 2021 (UTC)
- Aoba47, how annoying. I've blocked for a week for the continued unsourced changes. Girth Summit (blether) 08:35, 13 July 2021 (UTC)
ANI mention
Hi Girth - hope you are well. For info, and incase you didn't get the ping, I mentioned you in this thread with regards to the aricle patrolling you have done in relation to articles I've created. I'd be grateful for your input. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 19:12, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
- Lugnuts, I've commented. Hope it's not offensive to you. Girth Summit (blether) 08:33, 13 July 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you - appreciate it. And thanks for being quite frank and honest regarding disliking (my) stub creations vs. the quality of them. Quite a refreshing viewpoint! Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 08:38, 13 July 2021 (UTC)
Duplicate articles worth combining
Hi Girth Summit hope you are keeping well, as an admin active in NPP could I ask you to look at these two articles created roughly at the same time John Iffert and John C. Iffert - a newly appointed US RC bishop - the second article is later by a couple of minutes but is better sourced and has more prose so I didn't want to CSD it, the name of the first article is more appropriate as that what the Vatican lists him as so a bit of moving/merging (beyond my pay grade and ability I think) might be able to sort it out. Thanks for your help in the past and hope you can help here. Best wishes JW 1961 Talk 19:37, 13 July 2021 (UTC)
- Joseywales1961, hi - I'll take a look at it tomorrow - on the face of it, your merge proposal seems like the right call. Girth Summit (blether) 19:54, 13 July 2021 (UTC)

- Eostrix, no worries - if you're not familiar with the edit summary, it would look suspiciously similar. I do a fair amount of AfC reviewing though, so it already looked familiar to me, I just created that test page to make sure. Girth Summit (blether) 10:55, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
Warning about citations
May i know why The GNP times are not reliable source? As you can check the thee edits are genuine (true) as well as faster. All the citations are made to confirm the edits please check every link that i have added.
- Pushkaraj1405 From what I can see in the website, it's a news blog written and published by two people, one of whom (I assume from your username) is yourself. Our guidelines on identifying reliable sources are at WP:RS. This website does not meet the requirements, in my view. If in doubt, you can ask at WP:RSN Girth Summit (blether) 15:13, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
about the GNP times
is it anything wrong to run a news blog site by 2 people? or is it anything wrong to put the right and news content edits on wikipedia? ok fine I cite the my website content but I don't understand why are you calling it not reliable? why don't you check the facts or the truth about the edits? if I am editing anything false or fake or lies then come and ask me to take things down. only because my website is small and I can't hire people to do edits for wiki pedia for me you want to take me down? Pushkaraj1405 (talk) 21:51, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
- Pushkaraj1405, there's nothing wrong with running such a site, but you can't cite it here. It doesn't meet the guidelines I've already given you a link to. Girth Summit (blether) 23:01, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
I can cite it here. if I wasn't able to then it would have been rejected by wiki. Pushkaraj1405 (talk) 23:08, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
- Pushkaraj1405, you're new here, you don't know how this works. You can't use that website as a source. If you don't believe me, ask at RSN. If you insert it again, you'll be blocked. Girth Summit (blether) 23:13, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
I can. if you block me I will use other account. you can't stop me. please block me. how many times you will. I am not spamming your site. as long as I am not spamming your site you should not be blocking me. Pushkaraj1405 (talk) 23:17, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
