RfA thanks

Just wanted to say thanks for supporting me! Please find your thank you card here, should you wish to see it. I'm honored to have received your support. All the best, ~Eliz81(C) 02:23, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

And more thanks

Hey GlassCobra, I know you don't like those template messages, so I'll just thank you with simple text. Your support means a lot to me. Let me know if I can be of help with any admin-related stuff (though I think it's going to take me a while to get up to speed with it all!). - Kathryn NicDhàna 01:45, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks again

About the south park edit, I've never seen a morning like this in my 2+ years at Wikipedia. It's nuts and still ongoing. Thanks again. KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 18:26, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

Question

Mr. Cobra, with you being a member of the WikiProject Chicago, would it be safe to assume that you are from Chicago/or have lived there before? This question will have more relevance depending on your answer, and my follow up question/response. :) KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 17:49, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

I am indeed! Do you need help on a Chicago-related matter? GlassCobra 17:51, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
No, no, I'm just wondering why you are such a traitor!!!!!!! :-o You prefer New York style pizza over our very own deep dish, and you are a Yankee fan to boot?!? Oy vey, where is your Chi-Town pride man? Oh on a happier note, congrats on your 6500+ edits. KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 18:04, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
Haha! Well actually, I was born in New York City, then moved to Chicago when I was 12. The New Yorker in me never left, though. ;) I do like deep dish, but I'm lactose intolerant, so all that cheese makes me sick without fail, unfortunately. Are you from Chicago too? GlassCobra 18:03, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
Yes sir, I'm guessing you've never read my user page lol. Oh btw, I left a little hidden message on your talk page. :) KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 18:32, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

Prose

Hey, GlassCobra - sorry to disturb you :p. I don't exactly understand what prose is and how to use it in articles. Would you mind clarifying for me? Thanks :) — NovaDog(contribs) 01:10, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Ugh, I'm burnt out already. Good night :) — NovaDog(contribs) 02:46, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Re: Can I Have It like That

"Like" can be treated as a preposition and conjunction. WP:NAME#Album and song titles and band names says to uncapitalise them. Why do you prefer capitals? I heard that Americans are more likely to capitalise letters than British spellers. Spellcast (talk) 01:49, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Yeah it is written that way on the single. But our manual of style governs the way we capitalise things. I mean, we wouldn't capitalise the "of" in The Wizard of Oz just because the poster has it like that. Spellcast (talk) 02:01, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
Smells Like Teen Spirit was actually moved to lowercase earlier this year, but was incorrectly moved back. I'm sure many think it looks better capitalised, but that's just the way the MoS is. Spellcast (talk) 04:49, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
"Like" isn't directly mentioned, but it is a preposition and conjunction. I don't know if an RfC is needed, but WT:NAME seems more appropriate. Spellcast (talk) 05:03, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Also, I didn't even realise this until now but thanks for reverting the vandalism on my userpage! Spellcast (talk) 02:34, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Scott5114's RFA

Thank you for supporting me in my recent RFA nomination. Unfortunately, I have withdrawn the nom early at 17/13/3. I am presently going to undergo admin coaching in preparation for a second candidacy somewhere down the line. I hope to see your continued support in the future. Regards, —Scott5114 07:30, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

My RfA

Hey. You recently opposed my failed RfA, commenting that you felt that I needed more variety in my edits. While I could agree that I do not have a wealth of edits, I feel as though I do have variety in my editing. At any rate, I was wondering what sort of areas you would like to see me work in? Thanks. SorryGuy 03:28, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for handling that. I've since learned the features. Not that I'm a Wayne Static fan, but we do have to keep everything up to standard. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.86.148.177 (talk) 03:30, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

RFA thanks

One of my favorite places Dear GlassCobra,

Thank you for supporting in my recent RfA. Words nor pictures can express my heartfelt appreciation at the confidence the community has shown me. I am both heartened and humbled by this confidence. I will carry the lessons learned from the constructive criticism I have received with me as I edit Wikipedia, and heed those lessons. Special thanks to Pedro and Henrik as nominators. Special thanks to Rudget who wanted to. A very special thanks to Moonriddengirl for her eloquence.

Cheers, Dlohcierekim 20:10, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

U/P

Hi. Please could you delete my user page for me? Also please respond on this page - which I will be watching - as I wish for my talk page not to be used. Thank you! Harris Morgan 22:53, 30 November 2007 (UTC).

Sure thing. I asked a couple other administrators, and your talk page must remain in case you need to be reached. However, I will be happy to oblige your wish for your user page to be deleted. Are you exercising your right to vanish, or do you just want the page deleted? GlassCobra 01:03, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
I would like to vanish, but still contribute on minor things. Thank you. Harris Morgan 10:23, 1 December 2007 (UTC).
Ahh, I'm afraid it doesn't really work like that; vanishing is pretty much leaving totally. I'll go ahead and delete your user page for you, but your talk page will have to stay, okay? GlassCobra 14:51, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
Ehh well he could just edit as an IP, and contribute to minor things. Which would effectively make his named account "vanished". KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 14:53, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
Yeah but Harris hasn't specified. Either way I already deleted his user page per U1. GlassCobra 14:57, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks! Harris Morgan 21:34, 1 December 2007 (UTC).

Block of Beautifulamazingalmostcompletleyfabulous

Hi, GlassCobra. I am confused. Why did you block Beautifulamazingalmostcompletleyfabulous (talk · contribs · email) with account creation disabled? I noticed as I was browsing Special:Ipblocklist that the auto block feature blocked another account. Also, why block the account in the first place? The account name is, indeed, long, but it is not a particularly confusing or random username - I, for one, could easily remember and associate it with a particular editor. --Iamunknown 01:23, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

(Sorry for the late reply) Okay, if it was a spam account, I guess I am less concerned. Umm, the user name... let me go look. ... *chirp* ... I can't find it now, as it is no longer listed in the Ipblocklist. Sorry.
Btw, does an account that is caught in an autoblock remain indefinitely blocked, or does the block on the account expire after a while? I've only ever blocked one account in my life (on another wiki where I was an administrator), so I don't know much. (Incidentally, it was a spamming IP.  ;-) --Iamunknown 23:31, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

RE: Yakyakyak

I did, but it was just so pretty! =) I'd seen other users have it in the past, and I decided, yeah, I do that, so let's add it! I added in the mouse=over that I was inspired by its use on your page. нмŵוτнτ 17:15, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Haha, well, I added it after you commented on my page, to be fair. нмŵוτнτ 17:29, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
Yes, but I try to keep things separate between internet sites. I didn't at first, then I realized how much personal information people could get about me from a really creepy close call, so I removed a lot of information from here and there. нмŵוτнτ 18:22, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
I know, and I had even more. Can you image? Haha, but now it's basically my school and hometown. Although I probably shouldn't mention my house... haha, I'll take that out. нмŵוτнτ 18:27, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for saving the article that I placed the hang-on for. I've notice that you've been dropping in to check up on the article, so I wanted to let you know that I will be able to work on it further, however not today. I will try to find some reliable third-party sources in the near future, hopefully tomorrow or Tuesday. Thank you once again and happy editing! Icestorm815 21:13, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Template:Uw-vaublock

I think I fixed the template so that it shouldn't add userpages to the indef blocked templates category (and I also moved it to the "uw" namespace). By the way, could you semi-protect Template:Uw-uhblock like all the other uw templates. For some reason it's the only one that's fully protected. I think this is a mistake.--Avant Guard 21:37, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Revolution mother

Thanks, yeah, I found it. This editor and I have a long, long history. His article was speedied eight times and I took it to RfD, where it was deleted and salted under every variant spelling available (by the closing admin). He appealed to me for help; I said I would try, although there wasn't much hope that anything would work. He decided that that meant I was writing the article for him and shepherding it through deletion review, and I disabused him of that notion. I told him where to read up about what to do and left him to it. Now, weeks later, he's back with a bunch of MySpace links that he thinks are going to get him somewhere. I assessed them all for him a few minutes ago. Unfortunately, it's given me the idea that the lead singer may actually have some notability (he's also a pro skateboarder), and any article under that name hasn't been salted... If you have anything to offer, you'd be very, very welcome. The editor's attitude has changed a bit, I think (a bit too late for the salt process, though) and I'm trying to help, but this is not my milieu and I may be lacking knowledge that someone younger can offer (I loathe his kind of music). Suggestions gratefully received. Accounting4Taste:talk 22:37, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Wow, amazing, thanks a lot. That's great news for this user. Be prepared for a very laconic communication style. I actually suggested in the AfD that this band had a little notability, but everyone just saw the eight speedies and went immediately for deletion. The user's previous attitude had something to do with it, I think. I don't know why I feel invested in this article, because it has been a VERY frustrating experience, but in a way I feel like the grumpy old librarian who has a soft spot for the noisy kids... outwardly, maintaining the rules, but deep down applauding the revolutionary attitude. Don't tell!! LOL Accounting4Taste:talk 22:44, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
BTW, be sure to read the material I put on his talk page... just so you know what he's been told already. Accounting4Taste:talk 22:45, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Comments about Ybor City, Tampa, Florida

Hi, a friend told me you had offered to help with a few concerns I (as well as a few other editors) have with the Ybor City, Tampa, Florida article. We have tried to address this issues politely via the talk page, but we haven't (asof yet) had our concerns handled in a mature, rational manner. I posted my concerns about the article and its WP:OWNer on Talk:Ybor City, Tampa, Florida#My concerns with this article. I know it's a bit tl;dr, but would you mind having a look? I'd appreciate any input! Thanks :) - Eulerskunk 22:51, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your help. I was worried that I might have come off focusing on the individual editor than the article, but it was because of the obstructionist tactics used by the individual editor that the contextual issues weren't being resolved. I think you've helped us come to an understanding. Again, thanks for your help. :) - Eulerskunk 18:10, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Please talk to User:81.159.104.55‎

He started out as a good editor, but "subtlety" (they apparently don't know the meaning of the word) added vandalism to the Ali Abdullah Saleh page here. After a brief argument, he did a minor incsult, but this is absolutely unacceptable and extremely childish. Therequiembellishere 00:37, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Honey dipper

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Honey dipper, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Honey dipper. Advice

Hello, GlassCobra. I'm coming to you with a question because I know you have far more experience on Wikipedia than I do. I do new page patrol quite often, and a few days ago a speedy deletion tag was placed on an article called The Stupid Show. The user who created it has now recreated it in another article called The Super Stupid Stuff Show, but this time has indicated that the article will be developed in the following week. Is it appropriate to nominate it for speedy deletion again? Thanks, — Yavoh 03:26, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Compass

Hi Glass, I updated it like you asked but felt a little uneasy as marking people out as "Authoritarian" etc. I could not find any better articles except Left-wing politics, Right-wing politics and Centrism, and used this for both the economic measure and the social measure. If you have better ideas, let me know. --sony-youthpléigh 21:22, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Would you consider unprotecting the page, possibly with a proviso against edit warring over the dispute tag? EpicFlame block

I just noticed that User:EpicFlame was indef blocked by you a couple of weeks back. Is there any chance you can explain the rationale to me?

On the surface, it appears that he has been blocked without warning. The block log says that he was blocked for harassment, but I can't find any evidence of harassment (I note, however, that there were edits after the block was placed that are clearly inappropriate). -- Mark Chovain 03:29, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the explanation. I wasn't aware of the edit summary. My personal opinion (if you're interested for future cases) is that the user should probably have been given a warning first, or been blocked for a medium term (a week or two). For better or for worse, we give vandals 3 or 4 warnings before blocking them for a day, then a couple of days, and so on. This particular user had made valuable contributions, and while certainly not a model editor, I believe he did have potential. -- Mark Chovain 00:20, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
And I've only just caught up on the whole "W00t" thing. What was it Luna said about the "defence attouney" feeling? -- Mark Chovain 03:30, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
