wikipedia help

Hey friend, my name is RJ Shaughnessy I am a professional photographer living in los angeles. I am new to this whole wikipedia editing world but am really excited about wikipedia and what an amazing community it is. I wanted to contribute some of my photos to their relative wikipedia entries, as it seems a lot of the entries are lacking in professional pics. Wondering if you might be of some help . You seem like a pretty knowledgable person in this respect.

One of the first images ( http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Lil_Wayne.jpg ) I wanted to contribute was this one of lil wayne. I shot this for Urb Magazine and I really wanted to post it to the lil wayne wikipedia page. I don't have a high enough ranking to place it on his wikipedia page myself.

Any ideas?

Any help you could give would be AWESOME!!!

Many thanks!

Hey GlassCobra

I went through the necessary things to get the my image verified. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Lil_Wayne.jpg

I am really excited to have the image in circulation.

I am new to wikipedia and I have limited access...Do you mind placing that image on the Lil Wayne page as the main image?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lil_Wayne

I am going to place it places where I do have access.

Let me know. Thank you so much for your help.

Thank you for participating in my RfA

I just wanted to take a moment to say "thank you" for taking the time and effort to participate in my recent RfA. As you may know, the discussion closed 66/0/1 and I'm now a holder of the mop. I will keep working to improve the encyclopedia and appreciate the trust which you have placed in me. - Dravecky (talk) 23:19, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

Hello,

Cab you help, I am not to sure on the working of this site!! Anyhow, that aside, i thought i might be able to help! I have seen various 'Deleted pages' and postings about ERIC YEPAO. None seem to sure about who he is or how true it is. I am guessing thats why its deleted. I wanted to clear this up for you as your user name was linked to statements about ERIC.

Redirect of The Supreme Poet (Album)

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on The Supreme Poet (Album), by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because The Supreme Poet (Album) is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting The Supreme Poet (Album), please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Hi there: just wanted to let you know that I had some surgery on my hand that didn't go well -- I'm booked for another session in the next week, but I'll be barred from typing -- and hence contributing -- for some time to come. Thanks for your concern -- and my best to you and all the Bathrobe Cabal. Accounting4Taste:talk 00:02, 4 December 2008 (UTC)

Note

Hi Glasscobra, hope you don't mind the intrusion. As a member of the school of thought that says too many hats is as bad for Wikipedians as it is for runway models, I wanted to point something out, as you have some concern about this thinking. You said something at User:GlassCobra/ACE2008 I wanted to respond to. Please don't get me wrong, as I supported Deskana for bureaucrat and think he's a great guy, but he does not edit the encyclopedia. Since becoming an arbitrator he has averaged less than one article edit per week, and this includes minor edits, trivial reverts, and edits that would have been avoided by using the show preview button. I don't believe--not for a moment and I'm irked by the thought!!--that Deskana should be punished. --JayHenry (talk) 01:47, 4 December 2008 (UTC)

You have to bear in mind though, he has been seriously ill this past year. But I do agree, and I'm sure he's well aware, that he's not the most active of article writers. Majorly talk 02:01, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
I actually didn't know anything about him having had an illness and I most sincerely hope that he's doing better. I would never wish ill health on any editor, and I hope my remarks are not interpreted as any sort of ridicule of his health. But it's another reason with the hats: we do need to recognize that life happens. I'm deeply sorry that he was sick. But we should remember there are lots of things in life--some unfortunate like an illness, but many positive like a promotion, the sudden will to exercise more, a revived close friendship, a new passionate lover, an unexpected pregnancy--that will pull editors away from a hobby like Wikipedia. There's no need for anyone to be ridiculed or to apologize for the inevitable times that life happens. But when it happens to an editor with a half dozen hats, suddenly all their work, and all their roles, suffers. An editor with a more appropriate number of hats is better able to scale back. --JayHenry (talk) 02:22, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
Incidentally, this is exactly the sort of thing I was talking about. It was never meant as ridicule to suggest such a thing could happen. --JayHenry (talk) 00:48, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

GlassCobra, thanks for the response. I was not offended by a slow response, but was only worried that I'd worn out my welcome! The point I really wanted to get across was that I don't think a single person who espouses the "too many hats" school of thought has any intention whatsoever of punishing or ridiculing Deskana or anyone else. --JayHenry (talk) 01:08, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

Don't revert improperly

Reverting something to a redirect when it is clearly stated that the page will be expanded is completely improper, and your acting on that on multiple pages is the very definition of edit warring. This gives you two options: undo your action or be reported for your edit warring. Ottava Rima (talk) 22:03, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

Hostile? No. You made a mass change over multiple pages for the same action on the same topic to push your view, which is the very definition of edit warring. There was nothing encyclopedic about your action, and quite the contrarily, it disrupts the addition of encyclopedic content. I reverted you because I couldn't wait all night for you to do the right thing. I have a tight deadline, and I really don't need people doing such things like you did that only damage the encyclopedia. Why don't you look before you leap and ask questions, especially when the edit summary makes it 100% clear what was happening. Ottava Rima (talk) 14:20, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

Editnotice

Hi. The preferred way to use editnotices in userspace is to use Special:Mypage/Editnotice and Special:Mytalk/Editnotice, to allow non-admins to have personal editnotices and also an easier detection and maintenance of editnotices in non-user space (using prefixindex). So could you please relocate your editnotice from Mediawiki:Editnotice-3-GlassCobra and then delete the page ? Thanks in advance, Cenarium (Talk) 01:09, 27 December 2008 (UTC)

Multiracial

I'm sorry about the template. While I agree that Dr Carebear seems determined to include an over-size picture of his son on too many articles, there's got to be a better solution than revert-warring over the size of the picture. Goth Slang Deletion

I'm not resurrecting a two year old deletion debate, exactly. What's happened a few times with this article is that it attracts so little interest that deletion gets proposed, 4 or 5 people vote narrowly to keep the article when it's clearly in breach of guidelines - Wikipedia is not a dictionary or a slang, jargon or usage guide and here we have what is fairly obviously a slang and jargon guide. One user, Deathlibrarian, tries to claim on the talk page that other subcultures have slang articles, but none of the list he provides are actually such. So the article stays up, wasting space. I don't know what to do, really: proposing deletion will probably mean the same half dozen people will turn up and vote to keep the page, or if it's deleted will ask for another review. 4th Wall Theatre, Inc.

I was looking at the deletion discussion about this group. The references listed are from actual NJ papers or even from a NYC leading Theatre critic (Peter Filichia) who has taken a liking to this group and wrote an article for TheatreMania.com.

I can definitely tell you they are a real organization as much as George Street Playhouse, Papermill Playhouse...also both in NJ who are listed on Wikipedia. Thank for for considering keeping the article here. —Preceding unsigned comment added by GregAGoldston (talkcontribs) 17:00, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

I am sorry you find a multiracial child "obnoxious" as you put it on my talk page.

There are many race supremacists in the world especially white supremacists. On the melting pot article the picture of the half filipino half white American was in an appropriate location within the text right next to the section discussing the past prohibition of whites mixing with filipinos. And placed there at a size that would not shock people with peculiar sensitivities. Dr CareBear (talk) 03:15, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

I do not appreciate you implying that my comment was somehow racially based; I have absolutely no opinion on race mixing or anything of that nature. My concern is merely for the articles that you continue to insist placing your picture in. As noted above by Will Beback, you continue to place your image in unnecessary articles at an exceedingly large size. The image, along with the text you usually place into articles, is against Wikipedia:Neutral point of view#Undue weight, especially noting that WP:MOSIMAGES states that images should not have specified image sizes at all. GlassCobra 03:49, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

The picture in no way shape or form violated Nuetral Point of View standards. The caption under the picture made no promotion for or against admixture but only displayed a child of mix race for the edification of people's enlightenment. Dr CareBear (talk) 04:29, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

Your recent removal of a known fact from the article "Mail Order Bride".

Being someone involved in a Transnational marriage I find it highly inappropriate that you would remove the recent edit from Mail Order Bride that stated: "This label is considered offensive to many people most especially those involved in such interracial marriages and their multiracial children who view it as being similar to that of domestic introduction services or dating services except that a transnational marriage is involved." If a reference is what you demand then I am certain I can provide one and I am highly motivated to do it. Dr CareBear (talk) 05:28, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

Please keep in mind that Wikipedia is about verifiability, not truth. References are always useful, especially from reliable sources. Your motivation to improve the project is most welcome.  Frank  |  talk  06:27, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

In other words what you are saying Frank is that you could verify a lie printed in a publication and you could list it here on Wikipedia as a "truth". That just does not make any sense at all. Dr CareBear (talk) 14:37, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

It's hardly a strange statement. It's a direct quote from Wikipedia:Verifiability (in fact, the very first line) which is official site policy. Why would a reliable source print a lie? "Truth" is subjective, so we have to rely on sources that we can trust, with a reputation for fact-chcecking and neutral reporting. GlassCobra 14:45, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
I would add that the concept of "truth" or "lie" doesn't really have much place on Wikipedia. One of the most common sources of dispute on Wikipedia is that people want to put in what they "know" to be true, because they were there, or their relatives survived some dispute, or their side has been right for hundreds (or thousands) of years despite what people think. To pull a few links from current events, just check out these talk pages: Talk:2008 South Ossetia war, Talk:War in Darfur, Talk:Rahm Emanuel, or Talk:Timothy F. Geithner. Wikipedia is not in the business of publishing The Truth™ or even original research, but rather publishing links to reliable sources.  Frank  |  talk  15:10, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

Just to be clear (with you and for anyone interested): I have no bad experiences with you and no evidence at all that you lack clue. I made a guess that those questions for that candidate at that time might have a net negative effect on the RFA process ... but that's not at all clear, and whether it's true is a multi-part question of its own. I felt the best thing to do was just register quick disapproval during the RFA. After it's over, I'll run a few ideas by you and see where we agree.
