DYK for Ellen Gallagher
editOn 8 March 2012, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Ellen Gallagher, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that American artist Ellen Gallagher created artworks which included images carved into the surface of thick sheets of paper? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Ellen Gallagher. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Your edits to Giuseppe Penone
editHello! I undid an edit you did to this page because we do not allow inline external links in articles, like the one you added to the gallery. Instead, please add it as a reference, perhaps linking to a page where his work is featured, or preferably to a third-party source. Thank you! §FreeRangeFrogcroak 18:13, 13 February 2013 (UTC)
Gagosian Gallery links
editHi, GogoW24. I reverted your addition to Andy Warhol, then noticed you've been adding similar content to a multitude of articles. There are two problems with this, one minor and one potentially major. First, the minor one. External links are almost never placed inline with article text. If we have an article for whatever you want to link—and in this case, we do—one should always use an internal link instead. If we don't have an article, it's best left unlinked.
My bigger concern is that the addition of content about Gagosian Gallery to so many articles raises red flags; it appears promotional in nature and runs counter to the guideline on spam. I don't know if you have any connection to the gallery, but either way it probably doesn't rate a mention in all these articles. I'd appreciate your thoughts about this. Rivertorch (talk) 18:20, 13 February 2013 (UTC)
Added: Since you have made several more edits in this vein without responding to the three editors who have raised the topic here, I've opened a thread at the External Links Noticeboard. Rivertorch (talk) 20:07, 13 February 2013 (UTC)

editHello, I'm Weedwhacker128. I wanted to let you know that I removed an external link you added to the page Richard Phillips (artist), because to me it seemed inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page, or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thanks, Weedwhacker128 (talk) 18:23, 13 February 2013 (UTC)
This is your only warning; if you insert a spam link to Wikipedia again, as you did at Richard Avedon, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. Persistent spammers may have their websites blacklisted, preventing anyone from linking to them from all Wikimedia sites as well as potentially being penalized by search engines. Adding links to a commercial site selling works by the artist who is the subject of the article is 100% pure spamming Biker Biker (talk) 03:09, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
Perhaps it may help you to understand the above warning messages if I give you a little more explanation than you have so far been given. Such a large predominance of your editing is related to Gagosian Gallery and artists associated with it, that it is perfectly clear that at best you have a conflict of interest, and at worst it is possible that your purpose in editing is to use Wikipedia to promote your gallery and/or the artists associated with it. The latter is made to seem likely in view of edits such as this one, which added absolutely no information about the subject of the article at all, but merely replaced a legitimate link to a Wikipedia article with an inappropriate inline link to your gallery's web site. If it is not your intention to use Wikipedia as a medium for promotion or advertising, then you need to be aware that you are inadvertently editing in a way which has that effect, probably because your close involvement in the subject prevents you from seeing how your editing will look from the detached perspective of an outside observer. (This difficulty in seeing your own business objectively is, in fact, one of the main reasons why Wikipedia's conflict of interest guideline discourages us from editing on a subject in which we have such personal involvement.) If, on the other hand, is your intention to use Wikipedia as a medium for promotion or advertising, then you need to be aware that doing so is contrary to Wikipedia policy. Wikipedia is not a free advertising service. JamesBWatson (talk) 14:04, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
