Welcome!

edit

Hello, Gustovonin, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was Manipal Institute of Technology, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! Hello Pamd,
Thank You for this Welcome Message I Just started a few days ago so forgive me for some minor mistakes as I'm still learning
Regarding the edits on Manipal Institute of Technology i am not actually associated with it rather i live nearby the place and have researched heard a lot about so thought it would be a good topic to start with, although still thanks ill make sure double check any future edits i make
I have also created my first article but I'm confused on how to Publish it , I had thought making one similar to List of BITS Pilani alumni so would be nice if i get some guidance on that, i have already made a draft

Manipal Institute of Technology

edit

  Hello. Your recent edit to Manipal Institute of Technology appears to have added the name of a non-notable entity to a list that normally includes only notable entries. In general, a person, organization or product added to a list should have a pre-existing article before being added to most lists. If you wish to create such an article, please first confirm that the subject qualifies for a separate, stand-alone article according to Wikipedia's notability guideline. Thank you. - Arjayay (talk) 12:11, 28 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

  Your recent edits to Talk:Ram Mandir could give Wikipedia contributors the impression that you may consider legal or other "off-wiki" action against them, or against Wikipedia itself. Please note that making such threats on Wikipedia is strictly prohibited under Wikipedia's policies on legal threats and civility. Users who make such threats may be blocked. If you have a dispute with the content of any page on Wikipedia, please follow the proper channels for dispute resolution. Please be sure to comment on content, not contributors, and where possible make specific suggestions for changes supported by reliable independent sources and focusing especially on verifiable errors of fact. Thank you. The Herald (Benison) (talk) 16:16, 27 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

If those sound like threats then I apologise from my side but that page needed a much needed review from a Admin which wasn't happening, the page screenshots have been Going viral on Twitter and Reddit India with calls for legal proceedings so maybe my wording wasn't right but I was just explaining what is happening, again if sounds like threats from my side I apologise, and for the above I have already been blocked considering that I am a recent contributor to Wikipedia, I find this shocking, A warning like the above message by @The Herald (Benison) would have made me understand the rules better But a direct ban? How's that Justified? Gustovonin (talk) 17:28, 27 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

You are not allowed to edit Wikipedia while the threats stand or the legal action is unresolved.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please review Wikipedia's guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  Bbb23 (talk) 17:17, 27 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
A Ban for what? As I mentioned before i am a recent contributor to Wikipedia and what I mentioned in my previous comment was what was happening outside, niether did I get a warning nor a reminder about these things? @Bbb23 Can you review it once again how's this justified? Should have gotten a warning at least Gustovonin (talk) 17:31, 27 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
I have gone through the above guide and from my understanding here's my reasoning for a unblock
@Bbb23
{{unblock}}

Request reason:

I have gone through the rules about making legal threats on Wikipedia against Contributors and Admins and I understand that one of my previous comments seems like a legal threat, Hence by the rules of Wikipedia, I want to make it clear that I retractthe Legal Threats I had made earlier in my comments, and I understand the rules and I would make sure I wouldn never repeat the same again and would instead contribute to Wikipedia in a Productive way,Hence I would request the admins to Unblock me :Thank YouGustovonin (talk) 19:22, 27 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Accept reason:

Legal threat retracted. Bbb23 (talk) 19:40, 27 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Bbb23 Gustovonin (talk) 17:40, 27 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
You need to clearly say that you retract your legal threats. PhilKnight (talk) 19:04, 27 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank You for correcting me I have clarified it in a new request @PhilKnight Gustovonin (talk) 19:23, 27 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Bbb23: - is retracting their legal threats enough for an unblock? Or are there other problems? PhilKnight (talk) 19:32, 27 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
@PhilKnight: Honestly, I haven't reviewed the user's edits. The user was reported to have made a legal threat. I confirmed that and blocked, so I think they should be unblocked and am willing to do it myself, but I'll wait first to hear from you as a courtesy.--Bbb23 (talk) 19:36, 27 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Bbb23: - thanks. I agree with the unblock. PhilKnight (talk) 19:39, 27 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Gustovonin, I would be more comfortable if you went back to the talk page where you posted those statements and struck them (<s></s>). DS (talk) 22:14, 27 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

You currently have two open unblock requests which are, bizarrely, both in the middle of the page. Which one unblock request do you want to be reviewed? Please move that one request to the bottom of the page and please remove the other. --Yamla (talk) 19:25, 27 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Introduction to contentious topics

edit

You have recently edited a page related to India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.
