League changes

Sorry about the late reply. I believe it is WP:FOOTY consensus for leagues to be updated on 1 July, as this is the date the season officially starts. Cheers, Mattythewhite (talk) 19:39, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

Very well, I don't necessarily agree with that but there you go! Thanks for the reply. --Half Price (talk) 08:06, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

Re: Apologies Then

There has been some trouble with the map, with some editor claiming that Germany should have two wins, instead of one win for West Germany and one for unified Germany. But it comes down to do we ignore Germany's partitioned win and remove the two Germany's from the small inset map in the corner, and change the colour to two wins or leave it how it is? -- [[ axg ◉ talk ]] 13:02, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

I am not trying to edit war

I am not trying to edit war, I am trying to defend the rights of people to engage in discussion regardless of how controversial. I have tried to discuss this rude obstruction on the talk page where this has been occurring. Sadly I was unaware of this Three Reverts Rule, one of my reverts was to revert an error revert that I had made. 130.56.93.43 (talk) 11:48, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

Do you have reliable sources to back up your claim? These are essential. --Half Price (talk) 11:50, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
Yes I have the "User contributions" section which proves that I am trying to facilitate discussion rather than the fascists who are obstructing it.130.56.93.43 (talk) 11:55, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
I meant sources to back up your claim that this incident actually occurred; lies are not allowed due to WP:BLP and other policies which are related to libellous information. --Half Price (talk) 11:58, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

About the Eddplant issue

Hey, I've had a bit of a discussion with Eddplant, here User_talk:Eddplant and here User_talk:Wmoran9550. I put a note on his page, and he replied on mine, and then I replied to that on mine, with a Talkback tag on his. Anyway, as a result, I made a very small edit to the article, which I'm sure will be ok with you. Instead of listing him as "Ed Blann (commonly known as Eddplant)" I reworded it to read "Eddplant (Ed Blann)" followed by the footnote to the article which says Ed Blann is his real name. I think that satisfies our need to get the information into the article, while it also addresses his concern that he be called Eddplant, that he become known as Eddplant, and not by his original name. I can understand that desire, and I told him that. But I also explained that the info about his real name would have to stay. I'm trying to build a consensus here, which is the Wiki way, right? ☺ I think this may do it. So, if you're not happy with what I did, I would ask you to please discuss it before you change it back. I'm sure we can work out something that's acceptable to everyone. Wmoran9550 (talk) 00:32, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

Actually, I just thought of another possibility that may be even more acceptable to all concerned. We could move Eddplant's real name into the footnote. I tried it, and it works. I just previewed the change, without saving it. But it's quite easy to add, after the ref tag and before the cite something like "Actual name Ed Blann. See: (cite)" That way, the information is there, but it's not so ostentatious. It's more subtle. After all, this article isn't even about Eddplant in the first place. He's just mentioned once, in passing. So it would be perfectly legitimate to demote the Ed Blann information to the footnote, don't you think? Let me know. Wmoran9550 (talk) 05:12, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

Isner Mahut Match

I have just edited this page to correct your facts. I work onsite here at Wimbledon and noticed you are getting the scoreboards confused. The edits I recently made are factually correct, yet you backed them out. The press references are also factually incorrect hence I removed them. It's a shame you dont not wish the facts to be correct against his amazing historical match which should be remembered as it was, not as the press preceived it to be.

Ah, but you should have said that in your edit summary or on the talk page, as far as I could see it was an incorrect edit. Feel free to change it back, but you ought to link to this discussion here so people know the edit is fine. To do that, copy this into the edit summary box:

YouTube

Hi, YouTube isn't really cosidered a reliable source and may infringe copyright. I don't know the in's and out's, but WP:REFSTART might be able to help you a bit more. Unfortunatly season articles on clubs below the Conference National are not generally deemed noteworthy, so your hard work might be nominated for deletion. RE: football in london

Cheers, I was looking for a template to navigate all London teams and couldn't find one. Not sure how far down to the leagues to go either, went to the 9th level, any further too far you think? Also, do you know if navboxes all have to be the same plain colour for football, or could I have made it different? Pretty new here on wikipedia, enjoying editing so far! —Preceding unsigned comment added by BillyBatty (talkcontribs) 21:14, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

Hmm, sorry I'm not well versed in navboxes but I've only ever seen them in that default colour. WP:NAVBOX#Properties is open somewhat to interpretation. I agree that the 9th level is far enough. I haven't been on WP for too long either, but you look like you've accomplished a bit more than me! --Half Price (talk) 17:34, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

Pilot Field

The main reason is that personally, I do not believe that stadia that have not hosted national-level (i.e. Conference or above) football are not sufficiently notable to merit individual articles (as with their players). Hence where I find small enough articles, I merge them into the club articles. пﮟოьεԻ 57 19:48, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. —DoRD (talk) 17:34, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

Ohiostandard prize

Hi, Half! This is to inform you that you've been awarded the OhioStandard prize for Best Use of Reviewer Feature by a Newly-Authorized User! Congratulations! :-)

More seriously, I want to thank you for this edit in which you disallowed an IP's attack on the subject of the Shirley McKie article. I have no connection to Ms. McKie, but the vicious attacks she's been subjected to really make me angry. After the post I made about the article to the Biographies of Living Persons Notice Board (see previous link) an admin did change permissions on the article such that only autoconfirmed users can edit it, but that's really a very weak protection, as you probably know, since it only takes ten edits over four days to obtain that status. I was wondering, actually, whether you might consider adding the article to your watchlist? I'm not on wiki every day, and the last time the article was vandalized to smear the subject of the article the attack text went unnoticed and thus stayed in place for 24 days. Many thanks... btw, if you choose to reply you can do so right here, below this message, as I've put your talk page on my watchlist temporarily, to make sure I don't miss anything you might like to say in response. Best,  – OhioStandard (talk) 14:24, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi, thank you very much! I was just browsing Special:OldReviewedPages and saw the edit. I had a quick look at the article etc. and decided to revert, I didn't know anything about the case prior. I see this page has few watchers and since it seems so prone to vandalism I'd be happy to add it to my watchlist. Thanks. —Half Price 14:33, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
You're welcome. You can tell your grandkids about your award, when/if you ever have any, and they will stand dumbstruck, in awe. ;-) Thanks for watching, and for teaching me something new, as well: I didn't know how to tell how many people were watching an article, and now I do. License tagging for File:Sutton United shirt 2010-11.JPG

Thanks for uploading File:Sutton United shirt 2010-11.JPG. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

It's for vandalism fighting only at the moment, so it's fairly limited. It comes up with all recent changes and constantly updates; and it lists them in order of chance of being vandalism. New pages also come up but you have to do all the tagging manually or using Twinkle. So for fighting vandalism and seeing the latest page creations it's great. For everything else, it's not. I haven't used Huggle. I fear that downloading it would be admitting addiction! Whilst no downloads are needed for IGLOO. —Half Price 20:07, 7 December 2010 (UTC)
And you can't patrol using it. So it's probably not best suited to new page patrollers! —Half Price 20:15, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

UKIP

There seems to be various reversions about the nature of UKIP. I am a member of UKIP and I feel that it is a libertarian party, it is definitely not right wing, even if the media say it is. For example, UKIP's policy is to remove tuition fees and reinstate full grants and free further and higher education. Surely you are not saying that is a normal right wing.

Similarly, UKIP policy is to build 3 High Speed rail lines using public money. A right wing policy would be to let the market decide and pay for that investment itself.

What evidence is required in order to permit the status of the party to be changed to libertarian and not be reverted.

I should mention that I have not attempted to change that part of the page and I always log in with this username.

Pstaveley (talk) 11:47, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

You have a strong argument. I see you have posted on the article talk page, hopefully we can get a discussion going there. I agree that in some ways UKIP could be seen as Libertarian but I also believe that it displays right-wing tendencies (especially with its perennial opposition to the EU). If you can find a reliable source for your request, then it would be changed straight away. If not, then I believe a discussion on the talk page is necessary. Thanks. —Half Price 11:56, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Fantastic, much more user-friendly. Some other counties need the same treatment. I didn't notice that the table was sortable, that makes things a lot easier! You've given me the impetus to do the others, thanks a lot. But are Cork and Municipal Borough of Cork actually different? I only say that because there are only 15 townlands in the latter. —Half Price 11:43, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
From what I understand on the Baronies of Ireland page, the "liberties of Cork" is one barony. I'll have a quick look at the other counties. Rich Farmbrough, 21:06, 21 December 2010 (UTC).

Deletion of Bill McGarry page

Hi,

I used to be "Bill McGarry (Internet Activist)" but now I am "Bill McGarry (Deleted)" or "Bill McGarry (NOT the football coach!)" or just plain old "Bill McGarry" <grin>.

I received emails (well, 2 emails) from Down-Syn (Down Syndrome) Listserv readers that my page in Wikipedia was no longer there. I followed up on this and saw that the page was removed due to no sources listed and due to no Google search references found.

I would like to get this page put back into Wikipedia if possible. I give the Wikipedia URL to readers who want to know my background and history. Also, there are researchers, students (including post-grads), etc who use the Down-Syn mailing list and the 17 years of archives for their thesis, project, research article, etc and use the Wikipedia URL as a reference.

I have had some magazine articles and newspaper articles written about my work which I can dig up and there are references on the Internet as well. Now, as far as the "no Google search references found" -- The problem here is the "Internet Activist" title which is not a good way to describe my work. If you search for "Bill McGarry" with disability or handicap, then I should pop up in various places. When I first started, the term "handicap" was the word used but over the years, the word "disability" or "disabled" are now considered the politically correct terms to use. Try Googling: "bill mcgarry" handicap OR disability OR disabled -wikipedia -advocate Note that this rejects any findings with the word "advocate". Many sites use Wikipedia material but do NOT give credit to Wikipedia so the "-advocate" should eliminate every wikiscraper (and maybe some non-wiki finds but that's okay.) You should find material dating as far back as 20 years ago. Google reported about 700 hits with these search terms; of course, some of those are duplicates and some are of other people but a lot of these are me. Search engines do not have access to the Down-Syn current articles or the 17+ years of Down-Syn archives so those will not show up.

I have sent this to the Talk pages of the other people who looked into deleting this page.

So is it possible to get this page restored or should someone re-create it?

Thanks for your help!

Scarborough Town F.C.

Hi there!

I notice links to Scarborough Town FC on the Scarborough Athletic FC page/templates etc.

Do Scarborough Town FC meet the wikipedia notability guidelines on football teams?

They (Scarborough Town) have never played at Level 10/Step 6 OR entered into the FA Cup/ Trophy or Vase (which I think is the minimum criteria required). In fact they have not played a competitive game of any type in the whole of 2010/11 season.

Interested to know your thoughts on this.

Kind regards. Seadogerk (talk) 00:57, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

Ashington A.F.C.

You contributed to a Peer Review of Ashington a while back, and noted some recentism in the history. I pulled a couple of pieces out, though I left the double cup loss year in as newsworthy (the only year better is '74, so fairly significant for the team in my book). Do you think I've done enough? It's still the longest section, admittedly. - Wmcduff (talk) 15:21, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

Tony Blair

Hi, I noticed you nominated Blair for GA status. I'm seriously considering taking it on, but it's a big task. I need to know that you're sufficiently committed and knowledgeable to be able to handle whatever gets thrown up during the review. I see that your name isn't in either the most recent 100 edits or the 100 most prolific contributors to the article, which concerns me a little, because GA nominators are usually significant contributors to the article. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 15:40, 20 February 2011 (UTC)

I responded to this on HJ Mitchell's talk page. —Half Price 16:28, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
I've left initial comments at Talk:Tony Blair/GA1, just focusing on the lead to start with. I'll gradually work my way down and leave comments as I go. If we need a lot of discussion, it might be worth creating Talk:Tony Blair/GA1/Discussion o something like that so as not to clutter the review page. Thanks for your help, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 20:13, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

Leyton F.C.

Thanks for that, I was expecting something like that a while ago but the League seemed to take ages over it. They'll almost certainly expunge Leyton's record, which means most of the other teams will lose points. That will probably happen within the next few days, and it's usually easier to wait until they publish a revised table rather than try to go through and figure out for ourselves who loses points and who doesn't. In the meantime I'll use that link to reference Leyton's expulsion. Cheers! Bretonbanquet (talk) 15:46, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

No problem. Oh and btw, the Ryman League take ages over everything! —Half Price 16:20, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

Excuse me

Below on the discussion page of WikiProject Darts, I did a suggestion of 3 dart averages at the World Darts Championships for both the BDO and the PDC. No one has replied to it for three and a half weeks. What do you think of the suggestion?

Good job

Thanks for putting in the effort to maintain 2010–11 Isthmian League Cup. Now let's hope that the right team makes it through to the final edit ... Ranmore (talk) 16:55, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

Hi just to inform you that similar atricles to this one that I've created (i.e. 2010-11 Northern Premier League Challenge Cup and2010-11 Northern Premier League President's Cup) have just been proposed for deletion which I plan to contend when I can get round to it. Just thought you might want to watch this space cos if these articles go then it's likely that your equivalent article on the 2010-11 Isthmian League Cup may get the chop too as they're at the same level of English football. I'd also like to thank you for the league cup article as it was the inspiration for the format of the other non-league tournament articles I've made, including the one for the Southern League Cup for this season. Cheers. Delusion23 (talk) 17:37, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.

For established users such as yourself there isa workaround available involving custom JavaScript. With the script in place, you can continue with this functionality indefinitely (its use is governed by WP:MINOR). If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 18:10, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Tony Blair

Hi, I took over the review as the original reviewer indicated that they were not able to continue inthis message. There are many outstanding problems and tags so, after going through it I failed the nomination as it is going to take a while to fix it up, see Talk:Tony Blair/GA1. Jezhotwells (talk) 18:48, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

Quite right of you. Once I have more time (in a few months) I will have to go through it all. I feel terrible about leaving the GA review. I'm hopeful of getting it up to standard by the end of the year. Thanks for your work. —Half Price 22:07, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

Nerimon AfD

I see that the age-old debate about whether or not Alex Day is notable enough for a Wikipedia page has recommenced... Personally, I always quite liked the article that Wmoran had written, although I can see why it was ultimately deleted. I've !voted delete on this AfD, but I was wondering what your thoughts were.

Incidentally, speaking of Alex Day, I've noticed that you've kept a copy of Wmoran's Alex Day article in your userspace. It's been there for several months now and no significant changes have been made to it, so I was just wondering what your plans for the page were... My only concern is if it stays up for too long without any changes, it'll eventually violate WP:STALEDRAFT, which states that userpages can't be used to indefinitely host deleted content. Sorry if you already know about this policy, I just wanted to bring it to your attention if you weren't already aware of it. Hope that you're keeping well. VoBEDD 18:37, 23 May 2011 (UTC)

Hello! I did not know about STALEDRAFT. In truth the only plan I had for the page to was to update it now and then to keep it current, in case the subject were to become notable. Unfortunately I haven't done this due to both a lack of time and forgetfulness. I agree that Wmoran's article was fantastic quality considering a relative dirth of information, but (after a fashion!) I too came to the conclusion that Day is not notable. Thanks for bringing this debate to my attention, I will add my thoughts. —Half Price 21:51, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
Hello again Half price. Just wanted to say that I think that requesting that the Alex Day page be protected was probably the right decision, at least until some sort of consensus about his notability is reached, so nice going. But what about the current Nerimon article? What are your thoughts about that? VoBEDD 17:40, 13 July 2011 (UTC)
Oh dear – not another one! That should be gone too. —Half Price 17:46, 13 July 2011 (UTC)
I put a CSD template up and it's now been deleted. No doubt it will be resurrected though. —Half Price 20:12, 13 July 2011 (UTC)

Thank you. Nominal (talk) 11:47, 22 August 2011 (UTC)

Hi. You made a good deletion reversal here 19:46, 7 December 2010‎ Half price (talk | contribs)‎ m (11,009 bytes) (Reverted edits by Marecheth Ho'eElohuth to last version by Glimmer721 (GLOO)) (undo)

Unfortunately what you didn't spot at the time, no reason you could/should have, is that the deletion was a part of a WP:FORK duplicating the Ancient Israel content under a new POV-title not written in English Korban Olah, counter WP:COMMONNAME, WP:UE, WP:RS, WP:NPOV etc. It should have been given discussion, and possibly AfD at the time. I have put a merge tag and discussion note Talk:holocaust (sacrifice) on the two articles hoping to resolve the duplication. This is a notification since you did the original (justified) restore of the deleted content. Cheers. In ictu oculi (talk) 00:30, 23 February 2012 (UTC)
