Welcome!

edit

Hi Pacifist, and a warm welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you have enjoyed editing as much as I did so far and decide to stay. Unfamiliar with the features and workings of Wikipedia? Don't fret! Be Bold! Here's some good links for your reference and that'll get you started in no time!

Most Wikipedians would prefer to just work on articles of their own interest. But if you have some free time to spare, here are some open tasks that you may want to help out :

  • RC Patrol - Keeping a lookout for vandalism.
  • Cleanup - Help make unreadable articles readable.
  • Requests - Wanted on WP, but hasn't been created.
  • Merge - Combining duplicate articles into one.
  • Wikiprojects - So many to join, so many to choose from...Take your pick!

Oh yes, don't forget to sign when you write on talk pages, simply type four tildes, like this: ~~~~. This will automatically add your name and the time after your comments. And finally, if you have any questions or doubts, don't hesitate to contact me on my talk page. Once again, welcome! =)

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

edit

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer be able to have them marked as minor by default. For more information on what a minor edit is, see WP:MINOR or feel to get in touch.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 20:47, 13 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

License tagging for File:Erasure-MoscowToMars.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Erasure-MoscowToMars.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 16:06, 19 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

edit

Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

I noticed your recent edit to Sorry (Madonna song) does not have an edit summary. Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. You can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing →   Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. Thanks! —IB [ Poke ] 10:56, 31 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

The reason given is "$2", whatever that means. I suspect it's an IP-based block as I use a VPN which frequently changes IP address, but the fact I log in to make edits should trump that, surely? I've never vandalised a page, and have created and modified many to general approval. I may not be a huge participant, but I like making minor changes and updates where appropriate. This may be an Autoblock, but I tried following the instructions given and they were just incomprehensible gibberish to me. Sorry.

Decline reason:

We'll need your IP address, as it is not possible to find your block without it. If you don't wish to provide this publicly, you can do so using WP:UTRS. Note, though, that we almost never unblock VPN's due to widespread abuse. As such, I'm afraid you'll need to stop using your VPN. Yamla (talk) 21:11, 3 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Request reason:

Thank you for your prompt reply. I can't give my IP address as it changes on a daily basis so that would only be a temporary block. I can understand blocking edit requests from untraceable IP addresses such as those used by proxies and VPNs, but surely the fact I am logged in should take a priority over that? My log-in proves that I am a singular, identifiable user, not an anonymous editor

Decline reason:

You may request ip block exemption over at WP:UTRS as well to bypass the block. You would likely need to demonstrate why you have a genuine and exceptional need (such as to prevent physical harm, etc) to edit from a vpn. SQLQuery me! 03:33, 4 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
