Inappropriate language (redux)

Hello HangingCurve. I've reverted your edit to Bulgarian parliamentary election, 1931 for several reasons. The most pressing was the fact that there was another multi-party election of sorts in 1939, but I'm also concerned about the unencyclopedic phrasing you used. "As it turned out" is really not suitable language for Wikipedia. I raised this issue with you in June, and also reverted an edit of yours to a German election article for using equally inappropriate language. There is really no call for adding these little phrases to the stuff you're adding. Thanks, Number 57 22:57, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for changing the wording of your statement. Re the change and your addition to the 1990 Albanian election article, do you have a source for either of those statements? The Bulgarian one is probably correct, but I've no idea about Albania. Cheers, Number 57 11:23, 23 August 2013 (UTC)

Sal Vitale

I don't know how much you've read from Tony DeStefano's King of the Godfathers, but in its current state Salvatore Vitale borderline plagiarizes a lot of it (not full paragraphs, but some sentences.) If you're interested, it needs a major cleanup and I don't know when I can get to all of it. --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 20:18, 4 September 2013 (UTC)

Unsourced commentary

Please can you refrain from adding unsourced commentary to articles. One thing that is even more concerning is that here you completely change the content of a referenced sentence, but leave it referenced to that source, even though it does not say anything like what you have changed the sentence to. Number 57 08:38, 5 September 2013 (UTC)

Re "1947 Romania coup d'etat"

I have redirected the article to the better sourced section of the article on Michael I. Wikipedia is not here to create knowledge, just to report what reputable scholars think... and the only Romanian coup d'etat widely recognized as such by scholars is the one that happened on August 23, 1944. What you (or I) may think about the subject is irrelevant, as long as you do not have your views published in a peer-reviewed journal (or in a book put out by a reputable publisher). The "article" also had many other problems, from generic judgements that distorted the material they were supposedly source to, up to presentation of primary sources (Michael's uncorroborated recollection of the events) as facts. Referencing

Despite me asking you not to above, you have again attributed new material to an existing reference in an article that does not include the information. In this edit you attribute the claim that the Civic Forum received the highest % in a free election to the Nohlen reference, which does not support the claim. I'm afraid next time I see this happening, I will have to raise it as a WP:COMPETENCE issue. Thanks, Number 57 11:56, 15 September 2013 (UTC)

WDIY

Hi, HangingCurve. I noticed your edits to the WDIY article and have some quibbles. Normally, I'd try to straighten out such things on my own, but I have a WP:COI since I'm affiliated with the station as a volunteer. My primary concerns are accuracy and sources.

"WDIY's sign-on made the Lehigh Valley one of the last areas of the Northeast with its own NPR station." I'm certain WDIY was late to the NPR family, but a source is needed to confirm this. Also, some re-wording is needed. The LV was one of the last areas to acquire an NPR station, but as stated, it sounds like few areas still "have" one.

"Previously, the only source of NPR news/talk programming had been a translator of WVIA-FM in Scranton." While its signal isn't strong, WHYY reaches most parts of the Lehigh Valley fairly well. By contrast, WVIA has two translators with coverage localized to Allentown (99.3) and Bethlehem (105.7). In any case, far more LV listeners tune to WHYY than WVIA. Also note that WHYY carries NPR news/talk and WVIA, NPR news/classical (no talk other than Fresh Air).

"WDIY's main frequency at 88.1 FM broadcasts at 100 watts, making it one of the weakest full NPR members." I couldn't find a source supporting the last part of the sentence. Obviously, 100 watts is on the low end of the spectrum, but the comparison and characterization ("weakest") require a source.

"Its coverage area is effectively limited to Allentown and Bethlehem." This leaves out the suburbs north and south of the two cities, more than half of the station's potential audience. No source could possibly state otherwise, though you'll find some indicating WDIY reaches the Blue Mountain about 20 miles to the north and Quakertown 20 miles to the south.

"This is due to the crowded state of the noncommercial end of the FM dial in the northeastern United States, and specifically the need to protect WNJS-FM in Berlin, New Jersey. To solve this problem, WDIY maintains two translator frequencies: 93.7 in Trexlertown and Fogelsville and 93.9 in Easton and Phillipsburg (New Jersey)." WNJS, which is 80 miles to the southeast, was not a significant factor in limiting WDIY to 100 watts, nor was "overcrowding" per se. A source would help clarify this.

Sorry for being a stickler, but I think this goes with the territory. I'd appreciate a reply. Thanks. Allreet (talk) 23:43, 30 December 2013 (UTC)

Hello. I've reverted your edits to the Joe Paterno page.

The citation you provided as the basis for the adjustment to a scenario of a 'forced resignation' actually confirms the firing of Paterno. Also, the reference to the following of Pennsylvania state law needs the citation of the law to go with it, as well as some citation showing that the law referenced was actually what guided the actions of those involved.

I've also outlined these reasons in the talk page for the article. Please continue this discussion there.

Clarification required

You added two edits to Irish general election, 2011, on 2 March 2011 and on 6 March 2011, in which you used legal jargon referring to "dropped writs". I have flagged these entries as technical legal jargon requiring clarification. Can you help? Perhaps talk of "dropping" has some meaning to American readers, but I have not heard it in Ireland. A rewrite would be appreciated. — O'Dea (talk) 03:16, 30 May 2014 (UTC)

Florida Gators football

Hey, HC. I appreciate the additional text and history that you are adding to the Florida Gators football article, but you are also adding numerous facts that are not supported by the existing sources footnotes. I have no idea from what sources you're working, but if you could add at least abbreviated sourced footnotes that could be expanded/formatted later I would be grateful. The next step for this article is clean-up and tightening of the overly detailed 2005-present text in preparation for a Good Article process -- and, among other things, that will require that everything be sourced. Anything you can do to provide those sources for your expanded text would be helpful. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 02:22, 15 August 2014 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of "User talk:Hangingcurvestinks"

A page you created, User talk:Hangingcurvestinks, has been tagged for deletion, as it meets one or more of the criteria for speedy deletion; specifically, it is a talk page for a page that does not exist.

It looks like that User Name does not exist (at least that's one puppet that won't need blocking).

Anthony Accetturo & the New Jersey Lucchese Crew Trial

I'm writing about your Oct 2013 edit to the "Anthony Accetturo" article. The edit claims jury tampering was responsible for the acquittals, and further that a large bribe was made to one juror. You did not add a reference to document this claim. On a common sense basis, this claim has a lot of trouble with a 'smell test.' The trial took 21 months, and the jury took only a few hours to reach a verdict. Perhaps the bribed juror had 21 months to skillfully discredit the prosecution's case one day at a time, but could he really convince 11 other disparate people so skillfully? Possible but not likely. More importantly I've read more than one account of this trial, and this is the first mention I've seen of bribery. So, unless I see some pretty convincing documentation, after 48 hours I'm going to edit this claim out, and I'm going to keep track of it.

Why, you might ask, am I so vociferous? Some of it's natural temperament, but mostly it's the wretched, self-expert, POV/opinionated editing that taints so many articles on organized crime in the US and Italy. The topic seems to draw self-appointed experts and people who 'shoot from the hip.' You're an energetic editor with lots of 'hardware,' but I also noticed several complaints about undocumented editing on this talk page. I'm joining that list of complaints--"with emphasis." Regards Tapered (talk) 23:49, 14 October 2014 (UTC)

Thanks! Tapered (talk) 00:27, 15 October 2014 (UTC)

An afterward. Supposedly, the jury was corrupted by one (1) relative of a defendant, who received 100K for his troubles. I doubt that he spread the $ around to all the jurors, because bribing 12 people is too risky. Yet all 12 jurors delivered not-guilty verdicts a few hours after beginning deliberations. So, how might this corrupter have done his magic? All I can imagine is that he persistently and cleverly denigrated the prosecution, its case, and its witnesses from shortly after the beginning of the trial. Do you know if that's grounds for dismissal of a juror? If he managed this, his subtlety and acumen fill me with awe. The defense may have known about the Trojan Juror and shaped its defense to fit his strategy. (I watched the trial of a Kennedy relative for rape in Florida, and the defense definitely built its case to fit the jurors its selection expert picked out).
If this scenario isn't what occurred, I'm very dubious about the fix being in for the trial.
I meant to write this months ago, but just got to it now.

Regards, Tapered (talk) 02:56, 27 February 2015 (UTC)-

I trust Jerry Capeci and Tom Robbins (formerly of the Village Voice, and co-author of Capeci's latest book). But I don't trust Selwyn Raab as much. To re-emphasize my point, it's a stretch to call this trial verdict 'fixed.' Because the quick unanimous verdict is most unlikely to have resulted from 12 simultaneously bribed jurors. The relative sounds like their 'hole card.' If he had been the only holdout, his blood relationship to a defendant would probably have come out, and likely resulted in a new trial. If there had been more holdouts, he still might have flown under the radar. But to call a rapid, unanimous verdict when the likelihood that all 12 jurors were bribed is nearly nil--, is, frankly speaking, bullshit. But since its Raab's bullshit, and he's rated a reliable source, tough luck for me. But frankly speaking again, I don't think you reasoned this out, and however much fun it is to put something dramatic and hinting of NJ/mafia corruption in the article, I think it's bogus--not good editing. I know it has to stand, and I obey the rules here, but I don't like it. Tapered (talk) 04:36, 1 March 2015 (UTC)

Vitale's three hits

I saw the expansion you did on Salvatore Vitale, and I'm trying to figure out what were the three hits Raab said he ordered. One was obviously Perrino. 7- vs. 10-digit dialing in Phoenix area

According to the NANPA website, 7-digit dialing is still possible for calls in the Phoenix area as long as they are within the same area code. 10-digit dialing is only mandatory when calling between two of the three Phoenix area codes. Phoenix does not have any overlay codes, thus mandating 10-digit dialing for calls within the same area code is unnecessary. ANDROS1337TALK 06:33, 20 June 2015 (UTC)
