Disambiguation link notification for October 29
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited 1978 Gillette Cup Final, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Neil Smith (cricketer) and John Woodcock. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

List of Formula One Grand Prix wins by Ayrton Senna
Hi. I'm about to move the article to the prep area for DKY. I do have a recommendation though; while the text explains that the three years highlighted yellow in the table are the three years he won the championship, the coloring should probably also be mentioned in the table's key. The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 02:56, 28 October 2015 (UTC)
How about something like this
Between 1877 and 1914, when international cricket was interrupted by the First World War, England played 123 Test matches, resulting in 59 victories, 22 draws and 42 defeats.[5] For much of this period, England and Australia were the only Test playing countries and played each other every year or two. In 1888-89, England toured South Africa and played two matches subsequently deemed to be Test matches. Subsequently, the sides played each other sporadically and from 1906 fixtures were played as frequently as the Ashes series. In 1912, the three sides competed in a Triangular Tournament, which was deemed a failure, partly due to a damp English summer and in part because of the perceived complexity of the tournament. Overall, by 1914, England had played 94 Test matches against Australia and 29 versus South Africa.

Len Braund
Hi, I'm currently working on getting the cleanup list for WP Somerset down to below 100 articles and came across Len Braund. As you have more cricket related knowledge and sources I wondered if you could address the "needs additional citations for verification" banner on that article?— Rod talk 11:28, 29 October 2015 (UTC)
- @Rodw: Scattering in a few more references to what's there shouldn't be too much trouble. I'll take a look at the weekend. Harrias talk 21:46, 29 October 2015 (UTC)
The results articles
Looking at the template:
there's an inconsistency between how we treat the World Wars. While we could rename the "1940-59" one to "1946-59", I think having a gap in the titles begs the question, so suggest we rename the post WWI one to "1914-39". I also think that whatever the rationale is for the breakdown of the later articles should be explained in the leads. --Dweller (talk) 11:40, 29 October 2015 (UTC)
- @Dweller: I'd prefer the other way around myself, extending the pre-WWI to 1919, and then 1919–39 as is. There is no cricketing rationale for the later articles; it's just 15 year periods, as that makes the lists manageable sizes. Not that I've really started working on those properly anyway, yet. While I'm disappointed at it being classified as a "content dispute", I'm glad you recognized the sourcing as a cite problem, which several of those in the discussion refused to acknowledge. - As an admin, why didn't you tell him he is out of order in effectively deleting a new article without going to WP:AFD? This article is not the same as the old one; it has addressed the main problem the old one had around lack of citations and therefore it is a viable article unless there is consensus at AfD which thinks not. Vatsal reshamwala
Am WP:AGF but this editor's entire edit history is a horrendous mess - moves and moves and moves...and what is up with his user page and his user talk? I have no idea how to go about fixing it all, but figured he had popped up on your radar and maybe you could have a go at it. Thanks, Shearonink (talk) 22:13, 2 December 2015 (UTC)
- @Shearonink: Yeah, I'd noticed. I was hoping that a talk page notice would help sort things out, but it doesn't look likely. I've undone another move and put a protection on that one, though it looks like the user page maybe should be in draft space anyway from the editing pattern. Who knows. Harrias talk 22:19, 2 December 2015 (UTC)
- I went to put something on his User talk and noticed it really wasn't "User talk". I know some of his pages should probably be moved or whatever and would try to clean it up myself but last time I reported something like this I got scolded for not following the correct procedure (heh, which I really did try to find before I started...) Anyway, thanks (& Cheers!) Shearonink (talk) 22:40, 2 December 2015 (UTC)
Redirect ANI close question
I've been asked a question about the redirect issue in the context of WP:ACE2015. In your close statement [4] you state "I don't feel there is sufficient history of prolonged abuse in this area to warrant a topic ban." Was that your interpretation of the consensus of editors commenting on ANI, or your personal assessment of the situation? NE Ent 02:52, 3 December 2015 (UTC)
- That statement was specifically relating to the proposal that Neelix be topic-banned on human breasts/human body related topics, not the actual area of redirects, in which he did receive a topic ban. Everything in my close was a balance of the consensus and my personal assessment on reading through all the information. Harrias talk 08:02, 3 December 2015 (UTC)
- This is awkward, as the last thing I'd want to do is re-open the redirect can of worms. Unfortunately, I've been asked a good faith question in the context of the election, and I feel obligated to provide an honest answer: that was not a good close. As Wikipedia:Closing_discussions#Consensus clearly states "He or she is not expected to decide the issue, just to judge the result of the debate," so in the future please close based on the consensus only -- obviously that includes evaluating the strength of the arguments presented -- I'm not suggesting a strict counting of votes. NE Ent 12:45, 3 December 2015 (UTC)
- @NE Ent: Right, I've had a bit of a look back at the discussion and my close since my previous replies. On the first, third and fourth bullet points, I'm confident that my close was based upon, and in line with Wikipedia:Closing_discussions#Consensus; I did still exercise some personal judgment, but that is inline with the linked guideline, which also states "closing admins are expected and required to exercise their judgment to ensure the decision complies with the spirit of Wikipedia policy and with the project goal" and "The closer is there to judge the consensus of the community, after discarding irrelevant arguments." On the second bullet point, which your quote relates to, I probably did make a mistake. There was far less discussion on this than many of the other matters, and it appears I did 'pass my own judgment', rather than stick with the consensus in the discussion. In general, my wording was poor; I used "I don't feel", "I feel" multiple times, which does make it seem more like I was just coming in and arbitrarily applying my own judgment, rather than that of the community. Harrias talk 17:45, 3 December 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for taking the time. As I said, this is just about answering a question; that thread really needed to be closed an I appreciate that you did it. NE Ent 03:09, 4 December 2015 (UTC)

In general, my wording was poor; I used "I don't feel", "I feel" multiple times, which does make it seem more like I was just coming in and arbitrarily applying my own judgment, rather than that of the community. Declaration of, vs. Conflict of Interest
Moving this from Samtar's talk page... I am perplexed by this from the CoE page: "[A CoE] is not a judgment about that person's state of mind or integrity... COI editing is strongly discouraged." What is a subject matter expert to do about contributing to a niche technical topic? "Declaration of interest" is reasonable, "Conflict of interest" is uncomfortably presumptuous and "strongly discouraged" is exactly that: direct discouragement from contributing. Is this an implied volunteering by editors to address these topics if provided facts via each page's talk page? Please advise. Thank you! Maiklsdeksters (talk) 09:54, 9 December 2015 (UTC)

WikiCup 2016 is just around the corner...
Hello everyone, and we would like to wish you all a happy holiday season. As you will probably already know, the 2016 WikiCup begins in the new year; there is still time to sign up. There are some changes we'd like to announce before the competition begins.
After two years of serving as WikiCup judge, User:Miyagawa has stepped down as judge. He deserves great thanks and recognition for his dedication and hard work, and for providing necessary transition for a new group of judges in last year's Cup. Joining Christine (User:Figureskatingfan) and Jason (User:Sturmvogel 66) is Andrew (User:Godot13), a very successful WikiCup competitor and expert in Featured Pictures; he won the two previous competitions. This is a strong judging team, and we anticipate lots of enjoyment and good work coming from our 2016 competitors.
We would also like to announce one change in how this year's WikiCup will be run. In the spirit of sportsmanship, Godot13 and Cwmhiraeth have chosen to limit their participation. See here for the announcement and a complete explanation of why. They and the judges feel that it will make for a more exciting, enjoyable, and productive competition.
The discussions/polls concerning the next competition's rules will be closed soon, and rules changes will be made clear on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring and talk pages. The judges are committed to not repeating the confusion that occurred last year and to ensuring that the new rules are both fair and in the best interests of the competition, which is, first and foremost, about improving Wikipedia.
If you have any questions or concerns, the judges can be reached on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, on their talk pages, or by email. We hope you will all join us in trying to make the 2015 WikiCup the most productive and enjoyable yet. You are receiving this message because you are listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Perera
For what it's worth, I've been told by my ACS contact that their handbook about SL cricketers was published, limited edition as always, in 2005. As I've said before, a new edition is proposed but no idea if or when it may be published. The published edition was called "Sri Lankan Cricketers" and was complementary to other handbooks called "First-class cricket matches played in Sri Lanka" (this was published in 1987 when SL was still a new full ICC member) and an annual series called "Sri Lanka first-class matches in ccyy" which covered many years through the 1990s and 2000s. I'm told that the player handbook confirms Perera's name and date of birth, plus the fact that he was an off spinner and otherwise as per CA and CI. It does not say if he was RHB or LHB. My contact does not have this guide himself so this is third-hand information but from members of a highly reputable cricket society. I might add that they have checked the scorecard information in CA and CI against their own versions and they are verified.
I refuse to touch the article again because I have only come back to help with CRIN and NCRIC. You asked a very reasonable question about the ACS publication and rightly too as it turned out there had been a miscommunication about what had been published and what is being reworked. I object very strongly indeed to the disgusting attitude of Anselm who jumped in on your question and accused me of fabricating the information, which I was trying to obtain in response to the excellent suggestion raised by Dweller at WT:CRIC. Anselm and his sidekick Reyk are guilty of blatant bad faith but, as always on this site, they get away with it. I will not stand for that any longer so I have resigned and have already started using other media including my blog for writing about cricket. As I say, I will help with CRIN and NCRIC, but that is all.
If you wish to update Perera's article, then please go ahead. The article needs to be renamed as well, btw, and moved perhaps to Suresh Perera (cricketer, born 1970) to disambiguate him from the Test player of the same name. All the best for 2016. Jack | talk page 09:28, 31 December 2015 (UTC)

Hello and happy new year
Hello Harrias, a very happy new year to you. I am messaging you to request your help. I had recently written to User:Johnlp for reviewing a good article nomination that I had submitted William Walker (Australian cricketer). He gave me your name, also forewarning me that you may not have time. Still, I decided to write to you hoping you might be able to review my nomination. I also noticed that you have a few good article nominations pending to be reviewed by others. May I go ahead and review your good article nominations too? Thank you. FLC source reviews
Hi, Harrias. You said that you supported the idea of specific source reviews at FLC, and I thought it was a good idea too. Well, it's only a good idea if the reviews are actually being done. So far, we don't have anyone doing them, and we're getting a backlog of articles that would otherwise be about ready for promotion. Since we're having trouble making the numbers, and you seem interested in the concept, would you consider doing some source reviews until we get more of a base of such reviewers. I'd be thankful for any help you could provide. If you are interested, there's a list of articles needing review at the top of WT:FLC. Giants2008 (Talk) 15:14, 15 January 2016 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of List of Formula One Grand Prix wins by Ayrton Senna
The article List of Formula One Grand Prix wins by Ayrton Senna has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Does not satisfy GNG for a standalone article on the separate subject. The person's wins are already listed in his own article.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Tvx1 20:26, 10 February 2016 (UTC)

That's it, the first round is done, sign-ups are closed and we're into round 2. Hi Harrias. Some weeks ago I applied for access to OUP's online resources but haven't heard back from anyone till now. I was wondering if the approval procedure is still active (User:Nikkimaria told me that you handle at the moment the requests). As one of those who are very interested in OUP's resources, I would appreciate it if you could have a look at the pending requests. Thanks in advance for your feedback. Cheers, --Dada (talk) 20:15, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Template:Cornwall Combination
A tag has been placed on Template:Cornwall Combination requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion because it is an unused duplicate of another template, or a hard-coded instance of another template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.
If the template is not actually the same as the other template noted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page explaining how this one is different so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{substituted}}</noinclude>).
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page's talk page, where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. ~ RobTalk 09:16, 6 May 2016 (UTC)
Morkel beings
Hello,
A question, if I may, since you're a keen cricket article editor. I'm working on Jacky Morkel, who, as well as playing rugby 100 years ago, supposedly played first class cricket. The problem I have is that the sources are in conflict. Cricket Archive shows a set of records and applies them to John Morkel, while cricinfo applies them to Jan ("Jacky") Morkel, the subject of the WP article.
How do you suggest I proceed?

Enid Bakewell
Thanks for the correction. I was led astray by her Cricinfo page as linked to in the infobox, which lists her major teams as England, East Midlands and Nottinghamshire. JH (talk page) 21:09, 9 May 2016 (UTC)
