National Defense Reserve Fleet

Thanks for adding the Nautical Portal. It is a most excellent thing. The link to the portal is positioned on the far right of the screen, which IMHO makes it less easy to notice. I'm wondering if that's by design, or an errer, or ??? Lou Sander 19:56, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the nice feedback, Lou. By "the link", do you mean the button in the "See also" section of United States Merchant Marine? Though I think you have a point, that template is designed to align right, and is consistent with most other portal links. Cheers. Haus42 22:00, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Shipping

Great work on adding and expanding to the ship descriptions. MadMaxDog 04:17, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the feedback! The Shipping page is a real head-scratcher for me. Ships are one small aspect of the shipping industry, but they dominate the shipping page. At least now, they do it in style, eh? Haus42 16:45, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia:WikiProject Organized Labour

Hi Haus42, I saw your name at the project and thought I would say hello, and welcome. I saw your great work with the maritime union articles like Sailor's Union of the Pacific. Don't hesitate to let people at the project know about any new articles you start, that way they can add them to their watchlists. (List them at Wikipedia:WikiProject Organized Labour#New Wikipedia articles related to Organized Labour) Cheers. --Bookandcoffee 20:27, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks very much. As soon as I can sort out which ones I started and when, I'll pop them onto the list. I took some time last night and did some sketching on what a Labour Portal would look like. It's all very tentative, but it seems best to solicit input at a very early stage. Cheers. Haus42 16:40, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

For your Nautical efforts

  The Society Barnstar
This Barnstar is awarded for your efforts in developing the Nautical Portal and articles in the navigation, merchant marine, and maritime trade union subjects. Good job, shipmate! -- Pesco 04:06, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the BZ, and my first barnstar shipmate! I'm so touched, I won't even make fun of the Coast Guard. :) Since I'm stuck on the beach for a while, I've been kicking around the idea of creating a project structure for the nautical stuff. Does that seem interesting at all? Haus42 17:03, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
Ha, please don't let a mere barnstar stop Coastie jokes... as long as they're new ones! I haven't been able to get on WP like I've wanted to lately, but thanks for inviting me to check out various pages. I really wanted to give you that award because you've done the things I wish I had time to do. You've brought a lot of cohesion to all things shipping. -- Pesco 03:29, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

Maritime trades

Thanks for the invitation. I'm currently a student in the portuguese merchant navy academy, and I'll be looking foward to work in this project. Yosy20:00, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks mr. Mate :) I'll look around the articles, see what info needs to be added, removed, etc. If you can, give me your email in my page - once I read it, I'll delete it. Yosy March 29 2007, 19:20 UTC
Thanks for your watchstanding regarding maritime content and organization on Wikipedia. You bring new meaning to being on the beach! My to-do list includes starting an article on the USNS Southern Cross, as a companion-piece to the ice pier article. I'll let you know when I have the ship article complete. --Fishdecoy 14:56, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for invite on Maritime Trades and also nice work on the Maritime articles in general.KAM 16:12, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

"Hi! My name is.. (huh?) My name is.. (what?)"

Good one, but alas, no, I can't take credit. Shades of Who's on First?, and numerous pastiches thereof. Other equally unintended associations are jai alai and Alai (Enderverse)... Alai 04:30, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

Irate editor

Hey JERKFACE!

Un-merge the Dodd Pod article. It's not "The Dodd Pod," you buttmonger, it's "Dodd Pod." Give it back. It was my baby, and you stole it. I'm taking it back.

God, don't be a sod! The Dodd Podd's gnawed at me since that that rod Todd clawed the pod away from "Claude the Bod" on an episode of the Mod Squad. Now that I've gotten that out of my system, Thank you for your suggestion! When you feel an article needs improvement, please feel free to make those changes. Sailor category

It would be an excellent idea when adding Category:Sailors to an article such as Harvey Cox, to make sure there is some text in the article which justifies the category. Also, Cox is evidently a recreational sailor, which would not seem to have any connection to the maritime trades project you placed on his talk page. --Blainster 16:42, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

The second paragraph begins "After a stint in the U.S. Merchant Marine..." which seems to cover both of these concerns. I'll copy this on your talk page for your convenience. Cheers. HausTalk 16:50, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
Oh, I see. You are basing the category on the alternate definition of "sailor" as crewman of an engine powered vessel. Aren't you casting a very wide net in Cox's situation? Maybe its just me, but it would seem that someone perusing the category to find those people noted for the activity or career, would not wish to see it cluttered by those who spent not more than a year or two in the service. But I don't feel strongly enough about it to argue for a change. --Blainster 17:17, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
The logic is similar to Elvis being in Category:United States Army soldiers. He wasn't particularly noteworthy as soldier, but it is somewhat noteworthy that an entertainer was a soldier. That said, there is room for a Category:United States Merchant Marine members and I'll be lobbying for it shortly. Cheers. HausTalk 17:42, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

William Le Lacheur

You assessed the article on William Le Lacheur as B-class. It would be really helpful to understand which aspects of this article require further expansion or which gaps you believe exist. I would be happy to try and fill them in. footie 22:57, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

I'd be happy to. I'm working on some notes about the article and will post to our talk page shortly. Cheers. HausTalk 00:14, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
Many thanks for the helpful comments ... I'll get to work ! footie 12:00, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

Woking (borough)

It would be helpful to know that you had fixed it. It would have saved me a lot of checking. Frelke 23:33, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
