Catastrophic hardware failure

On 5 June 2007 I suffered what could be characterized as a catastrophic hardware failure which has left me with very limited (less than once-per-week) access to the internet. I hope to have a workaround in place by July. Cheers. HausTalk 20:02, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Jeez, that's a drag. Hope you're back up soon. (I guess this means you won't be around to notice how often I use the letter u for the next while. :)--Bookandcoffee 00:38, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
Sorry to see that your Feature article nomination for Bulk carrier had been closed. I think it was a very informative article that deserved to be featured after a few fixes were complete. Hope to see it re-nominated again once you have the time! Cheers, SeleneFN 22:19, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:William-colepaugh.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:William-colepaugh.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 21:58, 8 July 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 21:58, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:William-colepaugh.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:William-colepaugh.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 21:58, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

Non-free use disputed for Image:American maritime officers.png

  This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:American maritime officers.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted after seven days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 10:13, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

Fan mail

About a year ago there seemed nothing (or so it seemed) about us maritime history - and now - wow - well done from a far off admirer of the hard work - cheers SatuSuro 07:59, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

TransAtlantic Lines LLC

Hello! This article popped up in a 'new articles' feed for WP:SHIPS, and I had a couple questions, so here I am. Having glanced at your User page, I'm surprised we haven't crossed paths before - seems like all your stuff is right up my alley! Anyway, back to the article; my questions:

  • Is there a compelling reason for the "Owns/Operates" column in the list of ships, as they are all apparently both owned and operated by TransAtlantic?
  • MSC lists Transpacific as "MV Transpacific" rather than "MT". Objection to changing?
  • I can't find Guantanamo Bay Express or Spence in MSC listings. Do you know which program they are operated under?

Thanks! Maralia 01:34, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

Alhoa and thanks for the feedback! In order to respond today, I'll have to be a bit quick about it. 1) Only reason is forward compatibility with articles about carriers who own and don't operate/operate and don't own vessels. 2) My take is this: MV's not wrong, per se, but MT is more specific. Sooner or later a PIC mate will change it to MT. 3) I did a cursory search and couldn't find the answer to that question. I'll keep an eye out and get back to you if/when I find out. Also, if you're interested, I'm doing groundwork for an article on Sealift Inc here. Fair winds &c. HausTalk 18:01, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the clarification. I really don't care if we use MV or MT; I just wanted to point out that the only source I've seen thus far uses MV. I have to wonder if Guantanamo Bay has been renamed - I imagine its name would be about as well-received in foreign ports as, say, an SS Auschwitz (a poor parallel, but the first that came to mind). I'm interested to see how the Sealift article turns out. I noticed you used the prefix 'M/V' in your draft there; you probably already know better, but if you didn't: titling an article with a slash in it is discouraged by MOS as it tends to break links. Argh, you are reminding me that I need to stop procrastinating and work on 'my' civilian ships - I started articles on the Esso Maracaibo II and SS Arctic, and they've just been sitting in my sandbox forever. Bad Maralia, spending too much time on military ships! Maralia 03:24, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
