Astley?

Can't believe he made it over the Atlantic. What a shocker... The Rambling Man (talk) 16:06, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Haha, I'm sure someone from across the pond sent it to me first. =D нмŵוτнτ 16:56, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Disaster. While moderately proud of crap-pop global domination, you should note that playing Astley on vinyl and speeding it up (a la Run DMC two turntables and a microphone stylee), you get Kylie Minogue. Hmm. Manufactured pop. Ain't it great? The Rambling Man (talk) 17:02, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Haha, I wouldn't go that far. нмŵוτнτ 17:11, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Haha! How could this not make someone smile? :P GlassCobra 15:07, 8 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

It's the ":P" that makes it special. Without that, it's just hollow text, in a cruel, subversive world. the_undertow talk 00:51, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Please please please don't give me a giggy on my talk page. Please. dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 08:58, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Giggs, don't give me any ideas. нмŵוτнτ 13:14, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

You may not be aware that Giggy or whatever chemical compound he is going by this week, is actually my lil Aussie homeboy. Do I have such a reputation for incivility? Haha. Some questions are better left unanswered. the_undertow talk 17:20, 11 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Damn, gigs. Do you just hit the colon key a random number of times, then start on your message? LaraLove 05:18, 12 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Maybe. dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 00:02, 13 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Those Star Trek ships are not screencaps from any Star Trek film or episode -- if for no other reason than none of those ships (two of them highly obscure and barely more than blurs in First Contact) that it's pretty unlikely you'd see any ships aligned at just such an angle with just that much detail. They must come from some other source -- print, fan art, trek website, I dunno. --EEMIV (talk) 10:47, 4 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ohh, alright. I was assuming good faith, but I'm not extremely knowledgeable about Star Trek. I'll go delete them now. Thanks for the note. нмŵוτнτ 18:40, 4 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. I, uh, have no idea what grammatical grenade went off around the parentheses in my earlier note. --EEMIV (talk) 18:43, 4 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

 Done They're deleted. нмŵוτнτ 18:47, 4 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

August Burns Red

Will you fix this article? It was mass vandalised by an extremely large number of edits. He is removing sourced content and adding unsourced 76.177.242.179 (talk) 18:42, 6 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Done I'll assume you're talking about the edits by Funkmetalhead16? I wouldn't exactly call that vandalism, as it appears to be good faith edits. However, I reverted back to the last version before that user edited. Let me know if you need anymore assistance. нмŵוτнτ 18:57, 6 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ok, thanks 76.177.242.179 (talk) 19:48, 6 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I copied the following comment here that was accidentally posted to an archive page. hmwithτ 08:34, 15 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hello,

With reference to: Image:Jamesfrasermustard.jpg

I appreciate your concern about images.

I have been the IT person for James Fraser Mustard since 1996.

I therefore know that this picture is freely licenced, and that therefore you removed it in error.

Please restore it. We at Founders Network want it up there.

Many thanks.

Hello, Randal. The reason this image was deleted is because it is replaceable copyrighted image, meaning that it illustrates a subject for which a free image or text might reasonably be found or created that provides the same information. hmwithτ 08:34, 15 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Rapid Processing Technology

Hi. I see you declined the speedy delete I'd put on this article, and replaced it with a prod instead. Can I ask why, as the article didn't assert the importance of the company, and I'd have thought would therefore qualify. What did I miss ? :-) CultureDrone (talk) 11:51, 9 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I misread the tag. My apologies. It's deleted now. нмŵוτнτ 12:17, 9 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Indeed, it is now possible for repairs that used to take ten days or more, to be completed in four! That's an assertion, or I'm not teh best admin evar! the_undertow talk 00:33, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Deletion concern...

Hi, im new to this whole thing...so i dunno if this is where i even talk about this...but my message is in reference to my band's wiki that keeps getting deleted. "Last Martyrs of a Lost Cause"

I understand you have to monitor and keep everyone from putting up every freaking garage band there is...but i would like you to consider allowing us to put up a wiki. Our lead singer's previous band is on here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_Shot_Hero

And we are about to release an album recorded with the same record producer that did the Bloodhound Gang (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloodhound_gang) records

Our band has played a national ska festival and has opened for many major label acts that all have their own wiki's. Our band is gaining a solid following in light of our debut album about to release, i would like you to consider unprotecting our site and allowing us to build our wiki.

Thank you —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bigdaygo6 (talkcontribs) 04:10, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Bigdaygo6, and thanks for contributing to Wikipedia. As for the deletion of the Last Martyrs of a Lost Cause article, I must note that there are certain guidelines as to what bands should and should not have articles located at WP:MUSIC. It's not anyone's personal decision that controls what bands have articles. Also, the fact that you say "our band" means that you are somehow related to the subject of the article, which brings up a conflict of interest issue. However, in the future, if the band becomes more notable, an article can definitely be created. Thanks, нмŵוτнτ 13:14, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Deletion concern

Hi - I see that the image for the John Kenley entry has been deleted. (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=John_Kenley&action=history )I had written permission from the photographer to use it on Wikipedia. Can it be re-enstated? Thanks, Stan — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.2.120.11 (talkcontribs)

The reason that image was deleted is because it is a copyrighted image, and a free image of John Kenley could be found or created, since he is a living person. We can't use copyrighted images to show a reader what a living person looks like. If you get the photographer to release the image under the WP:GFDL, that would be wonderful. нмŵוτнτ 21:25, 11 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

WP:BRC/WP:SIGNPOST questions

  1. Can you describe what the 'cabal' is? What is its history? How did it come about?
It was all a joke. Some pictures were posted after RfAs of users in bathrobes, Riana made a joke about them being some sort of "bathrobe cabal" now, and the brilliant idea was produced. People take things a little too seriously here, sometimes, and this is just a way to bring a certain light heartedness to the project. We're not serious people, and this is not "serious business". However, it keeps members and nonmembers alike amused while "serious business" is taking place.
  2. I'm a newbie wanting to help out at the cabal, what do I do? How can I get involved?
Take a picture of yourself in a bathrobe, "submit" it on the talk page of either Dfrg.msc, LaraLove, GlassCobra, or Jayron32, who are four of the BRC's longstanding members. One doesn't have to have any particular status in the project.
  3. There is obviously a striking difference between the BRC and other cabals, but what else makes it different?
The members are all easy going editors. Any particular member has a primary focus on editing while still contributing with a particular carefree, if not sarcastic humor.
  4. How did you feel about posting an image of yourself? Did you ever feel inclined to post an image of someone that wasn't you?
I don't mind posting an image of myself, and I would be upset if anyone considered to post an image of someone else. I think it makes an editor less of a pseudonym and more of an actual person.
  5. Why did you join the group?
I was asked to join on my talk page by an editor I respected. I found the "cabal" idea amusing, especially when I discovered its history. Why would I pass up a chance of collaboration with editors who I already respect and admire? Plus, the whole slowly taking over Wikipedia thing seemed like an ideal plan at the time.</sarcasm>
  6. Apart from maybe LaraLove and Riana, are there any other leading members?
I figure that you struck this question when you figured out the answer yourself. =)
  7. I felt that the Bathrobe Cabal is a little informal, would you list that amongst the best elements of the group?
Well, bathrobes are informal in general. What a better way to describe us? Besides being a joke, we truly do collaborate at times, while discussing what is currently happening on Wikipedia.
  8. What's your overall opinion on the group? Has it helped you in any way, for example?
To be honest, it makes me want to edit more productively and stay around a lot longer. It keeps it from becoming a dull, tedious "job", and I have expanded my horizons in relation to working in other areas I may not have otherwise participated. There are members of all different ages, ranging from younger to older. We come from different locations, as well, which helps balance the perspective. I feel as though, not only have I been somewhat mentored by more experienced members, but I have helped others, on and off-wiki.

Signature

No!!! What did you do with that classic signature of yours? bibliomaniac15 04:38, 15 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Haha, it got boring to me. Also, I couldn't search for it on a page. Why? Was it that great? Haha, hmwithτ 05:06, 15 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Okay, I went back to a balance between the two. I hope that this will suffice. =) hmwithτ 23:03, 15 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

If you look at the history of my RFA, our concurrent edits had exactly the same count of character adding (301). Funny coincidence. VanTucky 22:33, 17 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

File:Carusi.jpg

Hi. You have deleted File:Carusi.jpg with the comment that I failed to provide the required info within 48 hours. I thought I had supplied the correct information. I have it marked as "done". Did I either forget to do it, or did I do it wrong? I am not an admin so I cannot view deleted information without request. May I request you to undelete this so I can see where I went wrong, and at the same time ask for your assistance (if you are able - not everyone knows what the correct wording is) in supplying the information needed. Regards SilkTork *YES! 18:12, 25 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Correction - I didn't have it marked as "done". I misread my archive page. I seem to recall now that I let this one go - I think I may have agreed with the notion that it should be deleted, but I didn't make a record of that. Sorry to trouble you. SilkTork *YES! 18:17, 25 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

No worries. =) hmwithτ 18:21, 25 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Image usage

Hi, I made some changes to our page recently (I work for SMEG and the information was out of date and occasionally inaccurate). This included uplodaing some images. I must have done this incorrectly as they have been deleted. I was given the chance to verify the content but I didn't get round to it quickly enough for various dull and irrelevant reasons. These images are our property so I'm absolutely positive that it's ok to use them. Using images on wikipedia is incredibly difficult to understand so I was wondering if there was any advise you could offer on this...? All I want to do is find out what info I need to fill in so the images won't be deleted again. Can you help? Mynameispritch (talk) 11:59, 28 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

In addition to this I've realised that one of the images was not deleted - I vaguely remember entering osme of the information that was requested at the time regarding the source of the image (Smeg UK). Is this all I need to do? Mynameispritch (talk) 12:12, 28 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hello, and thank you for taking an interest in Wikipedia & uploading images. I'm not sure to which images you are referring. Could you provide a link to the file name using this format: [[Image:<file name>.<file extension>]] in order for me to assist you? Have a great day, hmwithτ 16:08, 28 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, here's one of them. Unfortunately it's been deleted now - I don't check wikipedia as regularly as I should so I wasn't in time to do anything about it. File:SmegService.jpg I've been reading up about this and I think I've solved it but would still appreciate your input.Mynameispritch (talk) 16:15, 28 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Actually, I went & looked through your images, and I see that you are most likely referring to Image:SmegLogo1.jpg, Image:SmegService.gif, and Image:SmegService.jpg. All of these images were deleted for lacking a source. Are they from the website? The images could actually be restored if you add this information.
You will need to complete as a fair use rationale. I provided the information on your talk page. Let me know if you'd be able to complete this. hmwithτ 16:23, 28 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, you've confirmed what I thought. I'll fill in this information - do I need to upload the images again? Mynameispritch (talk) 08:49, 29 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

No, I can go ahead & restore them now. I see that you uploaded the service one twice, so I'll just restore the .gif version. Please fill them in at your earliest convenience. Thanks, hmwithτ 08:55, 29 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Done The images are restored. hmwithτ 08:57, 29 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Excellent - thanks for all your help :o) Mynameispritch (talk) 11:06, 29 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

No problem. There's one issue, however. We still need some more information. Could you please supply the exact URL from which the images came, the author, and why they're permitted under fair use? hmwithτ 12:01, 29 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
