Sydney suburb articles

Having moved a number of Sydfney suburb articls, thought I should explain why given that somebody may object. In the last year or so there were several WP:RMs that resulted in consensus that the New South Wales suffix should edropped from Sydney suburb article names where no disambiguation was required. e.g. , , , , , . Having nominated a few as uncontested moves in recent days that were not challenged, I have nominated the remainder in one hit to finish the job. @Humontroup, presuming that your assertion of WP:PTOPIC is correct, and while I also agree with your argument, prior discussions (of which I started a number) have had people disagreeing with them. On that basis I think what you ahve proposed needs to go to a full discussion. You're able to start a discussion for all of them at the same time. Instructions can be found at WP:RM. @Thilio, see Talk:Allawah#Requested move 6 August 2025, for one example where I proposed mass moves and there was at least one oppose. I'm pretty sure that all of the mass moves I proposed ended up being moved; however, almost all of them had some opposition. Sorry I can't provide more examples, I've been involved relisting/closing too many discusoins for me to easily find them. TarnishedPath^talk 03:00, 22 June 2026 (UTC)

Move of Sylvania Waters

Hello Humontroup. Recently you requested that Thilio (talk · contribs) move Sylvania Waters, New South Wales to Sylvania Waters, justifying it as WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. I have asked that Thilio undo this move as the page Sylvania Waters (TV series) has over 135,000 lifetime pageviews, vs the suburb's mere 5,500! This is clearly not the primary topic, and per WP:NCAUST, disambiguation is required, or there needs to be a discussion to determine consensus on which of the two is the Primary Topic. I appreciate you may not be aware of the TV series (I'm old and it is the first thing I think of when someone mentions Sylvania Waters!), so I can see how this might have happened. However, I would suggest that you search for other articles and check their page views before claiming a subject is the PTOPIC to avoid situations like this. In addition to Sylvania Waters, I have review your recent page moves and found a number of them are not supported by your claim of WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Can you please clarify what checks you are doing before you initiate these moves, as I am not sure you are applying this policy correctly. Examples as follows:

• I have undone your move at Whale Beach, New South Wales - you claimed there was no other Whale Beach and thus no need for disambiguation, however searching for Whale Beach in wikipedia also returns Whale Beach (Nevada). A review of the lifetime pageviews showed the Nevada article to have 12,510 views, versus just 3726 for the suburb in New South Wales. This does not support your claim.
• I have also undone your move at St Helens Park, New South Wales. In this case, the suburb is named after St Helen's Park (note the apostrophe). The article on the heritage site has considerably more pageviews than the suburb (4450 vs 1954). While you are correct that there is no other article with the EXACT title, per WP:PRIMARYTOPIC A topic is primary for a term with respect to usage if it is highly likely—much more likely than any other single topic, and more likely than all the other topics combined—to be the topic sought when a reader searches for that term. I dont think you can rely on an apostrophe alone to disambiguate between these two articles, and the stats show it is around 2.5x more likely someone searching for St Helen(')s Park is wanting information on the heritage site rather than the suburb.
• I have not yet moved Model Farms back to Model Farms, New South Wales, however there is already a page called Model farm (lower case "f" and no S) that redirects to Demonstration Farm. When you take into account the pageviews for Demonstration farm there are over 39,000, although the redirect from Model farm is only a bit over 100. Still, as the lead for Demonstration farm includes model farm as an alternative name in the title, we would definitely require a discussion to gain community consensus before claiming the locality within Winston Hills, NSW, with less than 5000 page views is the more likely target for the search term "Model farms" than Demonstration Farm. I intend to open an RM for this matter to explore this consensus shortly. Of course, you are most welcome to join the discussion and help us build WP:CONSENSUS on what the stable title should be.

I appreciate you are a fairly new editor, and I am not trying to discourage you from participating in Wikipedia. If you have any questions, I am happy to help, or try to point you to somewhere where you can find an answer! I also see you created a disambiguation page for The Slopes. That was a good call! The difference between the park in Buxton and the suburb in NSW is only a matter of less than 1300 page views, so I agree there neither is the primary topic. Thanks!
