Help With Lone Star Funds edit
Hi. Thanks again for jumping in and implementing those previous edits. I have another edit request at Talk:Lone Star Funds and would be grateful if you could make those changes too. Invitation to take part in a survey about medical topics on Wikipedia
Dear fellow editor,
I am Piotr Konieczny, a sociologist of new media at Hanyang University (and User:Piotrus on Wikipedia). I would like to better understand Wikipedia's volunteers who edit medical topics, many associated with the WikiProject Medicine, and known to create some of the highest quality content on Wikipedia. I hope that the lessons I can learn from you that I will present to the academic audience will benefit both the WikiProject Medicine (improving your understanding of yourself and helping to promote it and attract new volunteers) and the wider world of medical volunteering and academia. Open access copy of the resulting research will be made available at WikiProject's Medicine upon the completion of the project.
All questions are optional. The survey is divided into 4 parts: 1 - Brief description of yourself; 2 - Questions about your volunteering; 3 - Questions about WikiProject Medicine and 4 - Questions about Wikipedia's coverage of medical topics.
Please note that by filling out this questionnaire, you consent to participate in this research. The survey is anonymous and all personal details relevant to your experience will be kept private and will not be transferred to any third party.
I appreciate your support of this research and thank you in advance for taking the time to participate and share your experiences! If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact me at my Wikipedia user page or through my email listed on the survey page (or by Wikipedia email this user function).
The survey is accessible through the LINK HERE.

WT:ER
Hey! I did not see the prior revert, but looking at the edit histories, it looks like that revert was from before WP:ER was retargeted. I would say that the WP:ER and WT:ER shortcuts should point to the same place, as it seems confusing to have them point to different places. What do you think? New Page Reviewer granted
Hi IAmChaos. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers
" user group. Please check back at WP:PERM in case your user right is time limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page. In addition, please remember:
- Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
- You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
- If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
- Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page. Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.
The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. – Muboshgu (talk) 16:41, 28 January 2022 (UTC)

Hello, IAmChaos,
Before tagging a page for deletion, please check to make sure there is not a usable version of the article/page in the page history. In this case, an editor blanked the page and there was a perfectly okay version prior to their edit. Thanks. Liz Read! Talk! 04:07, 8 February 2022 (UTC)

- Hi, @Raja Tripathy007:, thanks for reaching out. On Wikipedia, we require our articles to be of notable topics, and supported by reliable sources. If you read through those links i jus gave you, you can learn more about why I nominated your article to be deleted. There was no claim as to why this company was notable, and there were no references, only a link in the infobox to an instagram page. See this link to the section where it explains that any administrator may delete articles that do not claim significance, and see WP:INSTAGRAM for why we do not generally treat it as a reliable source, but rather as a self published source. I would recommend that you work on the article in "draftspace" which is what we call the pages on Wikipedia that are still under construction, and then when you are ready to ask a more experienced editor to look at it, you can type
{{subst:Submit}}
at the top of that page, and they will be able to help you with formatting tips, and advice on whether your article qualifies for a Wikipedia page. - I would also like to point you to Wikipedia:Article wizard, which is a helpful form for starting your article. And one last thing, when you are starting new conversations on talk pages, such as this one, you should start a new section at the bottom of the page by clicking the buttion at the top that says either "New Section" or that has a + symbol. Happy Editing--IAmChaos 05:31, 23 February 2022 (UTC)

Pending changes reviewer granted
Hello. Your account has been granted the "pending changes reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on pages protected by pending changes. The list of articles awaiting review is located at Special:PendingChanges, while the list of articles that have pending changes protection turned on is located at Special:StablePages.
Being granted reviewer rights neither grants you status nor changes how you can edit articles. If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time.

Hi, could to help WP:CSD#G6 Blanco (British rapper). BurudaKidd (talk) 01:49, 1 March 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @BurudaKidd:. If you are ready to move the article into the mainspace, you can add the text
{{Db-move|Draft:Blanco (British rapper)}}
to the top of the redirect page. Or, if you want another editor to review the draft first, you can place the text{{AfC submission/submit}}
at the top of the draft, and an AFC Reviewer will come by to take a look at it, and they would deal with getting the page into the article space. Happy Editing--IAmChaos 01:59, 1 March 2022 (UTC)

Violent J Change
Hey, the reason I removed the photo on Violent J's page is because it isn't Violent J's picture. I clicked on the photo which led me to a flickr page and the caption is David Frosting His Tips. https://www.flickr.com/photos/pocheco/5349173001/in/photostream/ It also looks nothing like him due to there being pictures of him online without his paint. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:18B:300:8810:4466:25AC:521D:5F29 (talk) 19:10, 1 March 2022 (UTC)

It seems like you have done original research which is not permitted for Wikipedia pages as you can see on this page. As you can see from the other entries on the page, they all have sources cited. editing page of Vic Wild
Hello IamChaos,
I really dont know how wikipedia works but. Iwanted to change some false information on my Wikipedia page. It says that I ran a watch factory, this is a lie. I knew the people who owned it but i never worked there. They illegally used my name and information for their watches. It really bothers me to see it on my wiki pages.
Also is says imade 400,000 usd off of the olympics that is completely false too. I wanted to take that down.
Anyways I am now blocked and cant do anything on wikipedia but if you could assist me on deleting that false info i would be grateful.
Many thanks,
Vic — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ultrap.189 (talk • contribs) 19:01, 24 March 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, Vic. If you believe Wikipedia has incorrect information in an article about yourself, that is a big deal. I would like to point you to a few pages. First, WP:REALNAME is written for people who have Wikipedia accounts and Wikipedia articles. It is written in a tone for people whose real name is their Wikipedia name, BUT you can still email the same team to identify yourself and get help on your article. The page WP:LIBEL alsio asks you to contact the same email I mentioned above if there is incorrect information. A few more pages for you to look at is WP:AUTO#IFEXIST for information on writing about yourself, or if you believe that you are the subject of truly libellous information, see WP:RFO for instructions on how to contact a different team of people who can help with those issues. Auto response on redirect short descs
Hi, I want to point out that I never intend to add short descriptions to redirects. What happens is a bug on mobile. When clicking on a redirect, the mobile device displays the content of the destination page, but the source code of the redirect. This means that when I edit the short description using the mobile app, it will add the description to the redirect. I cannot know when this happens without checking my edit history, or when you leave me what seems to be an automated message. Thrakkx (talk) 21:56, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

Question from ContributeFacts2022 (17:22, 1 April 2022)
Hello - how do I add a page for an actor? --ContributeFacts2022 (talk) 17:22, 1 April 2022 (UTC)
- Hello, @ContributeFacts2022: Wlecome to Wikipedia! If you want to write a new article, I suggest reading this page on writing an article. It's a few minute read, but has some good advice. There is also a button on that page to start a new page, using the WP:Article Wizard, when you are ready to begin. Once you have done that one of our new article reviewers will take a look and help you with any issues before it is published. Writing an article is usually a big feat for a new editor, so you may want to try a few other edits to get started on Wikipedia, such as those suggested on your homepage. Question from Ahmedfarooqtawana (12:00, 6 April 2022)
Hey , I had to ask after how many edits can a person write an article? --Ahmedfarooqtawana (talk) 12:00, 6 April 2022 (UTC)
- (by talk reader) @Ahmedfarooqtawana: I don't think you should be planning to write an article, at all. Please read WP:FIRST about writing your first article but it is not a matter of edit count. All editors should learn how to properly edit to understand what is expected. Too many new editors arrive with the false idea of "having their own article" and that is not how it works here. Former civil parishes in the London Borough of Bexley
Just to let you know - I created the article Former civil parishes in the London Borough of Bexley in error whilst cut and pasting text too quickly. It was supposed to be a category dividing former parishes in London category into the boroughs. You may have guesses as such. I do not wish to contest the article's deletion, in fact I would also like to delete it. If you are able to you may as well delete it immediately if you can, I only made it by mistake. Thanks, and apologies.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue / South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue
Thanks for reviewing South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue, which was created due to a controversial and now-reverted move. Sadly it looks like the wikidata for the original article South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue has become detached/disassociated somehow in the move and then the reversion. Is this something you know how to fix? 10mmsocket (talk) 06:33, 24 April 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, User:10mmsocket! I don't know much about wd connection, but on d:Q7568999, it lists the current page title on the enwiki section. Happy Editing--IAmChaos 06:44, 24 April 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks. It looks like (somehow) it has now become re-connected. An easy way to see is to take a look at the infobox and external links {{official URL}} and {{official website}}. If those are used without parameters it directs the official website to be retrieved from wikidata. If there's a disconnect (or the website isn't set) it will say so in the internal links section (and the infobox parameter simply won't display). That's what was happening earlier, but now it's working. 10mmsocket (talk) 06:52, 24 April 2022 (UTC)

Hi @IAmChaos:, Would you please update the redirect review for this, edit diff from decline to accept, as it was accepted by Tamzin. Thank you! Fade258 (talk) 15:28, 24 April 2022 (UTC)

Archiveing of talk pages
Hello IAmChaos, since Drummingman is on my watchlist, I was wondering if my talk page should be archived in the same way. Sometimes it is getting too long. Thanks for your comment. Lotje (talk) 06:12, 26 April 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, @Lotje:; The answer is it's really up to you. Your archive is loading rather quickly for me (and I have too many userscripts installed anyway). Help:Archiving a talk page recommends about 75 kb, and your archive exceeds that by a bit over double, although of course most people arent reading your archive often. You can set it up that the bot will create a new archive every so often, although don't ask me how, I manually archive. Or, you could just make this edit at your talk page and create /Archive 2 as a blank page. Happy Editing--IAmChaos 06:21, 26 April 2022 (UTC)

Just a tip
Hi Chaos, I'm Hulk, not sure we've met. I like your name and presumably have no problem with the nature of your game. But, the Oxford English Dictionary has recently and officially recognized "schlockey" as a real Canadian English word meaning something like box hockey, rather than mere hoser slang. Decline reason: You appear to be requesting WP:IPBE but have demonstrated you are still able to edit with your original account, and don't explain an exceptional need for you to use ProtonVPN. Hi- Its IAmChaos posting this from my WP:VALIDALT mobile account. My new computer was bought for work and is connected through VPN to the netherlands so I can access a server for work. I am having to use 'ProtonVPN' for this connection, but now I can't edit. I was just editing from the old one while setting up this guy, but now that I have the new screen in front of me, I can't edit (even my own talk page). - Hello, replying as I was marked as a blocking admin above. It's not actually the global block that's the issue (the same IP is blocked locally too, cf. [1]).
- According to WP:IPECPROXY, users with a need for an anonymizing proxy (including ProtonVPN) need to request an exemption from the checkusers via checkuser-en-wp wikipedia.org.
- Hope it helps. Martin Urbanec (talk) 11:03, 1 March 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @Yamla: I am back on my old computer to post this. I just want to make one clarifying point to your first sentence, I was editing on my phone, with my other account when I posted that. I may not have been clear that my new machine was configured by my employer to run through the VPN at all times. I might not call wanting to use a different computer when I have another to be "exceptional" as you put in your reason, so I guess, I can use my old computer for editing while I can. Thank you also to @Martin Urbanec: for your reply, when I finally clean off this computer and get rid of it I will follow your instructions for applying for this perm from the Checkusers, and not with the standard admin unblcok request. Happy Editing--IAmChaos 01:30, 2 March 2022 (UTC)
- Hid the hat about to archive this section - I no longer have the other computer so the (eventual) need for IPBE no longer exists. 02:00, 6 July 2022 (UTC)

On deletion of
Courtesy link: List of Theravada Meditation Centers
Hi, I am Thagil. I deleted the mentioned article created by me and then you have restored it. The reason for my deletion was: I got to know that most of the mentioned meditation centers are not actually technical "Theravada". They themselves claim they are not "Mahavihara Theravada" (which is the technical use of the term). They seem to be using the term "Theravada" just to indicate their ordination or teacher lineage. And also this article seems unsuitable for an encyclopedia as well.
Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thagil (talk • contribs) 20:38, 13 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Thagil:. I have nominated the page for deletion under section G7 of the Speedy deletion policy. If an administrator agrees that it meets the criteria, they will delete the page for you. Happy Editing--IAmChaos 22:33, 13 May 2022 (UTC)
New messgae from Newliving
Hi there, I got a notification that your reviewed the page Adewale Adetona. What does this mean for the future of the article? I still see the deletion notice on the top of the article. Thanks Newliving (talk) 01:11, 21 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, @Newliving: In short, it means nothing. I am a New Page Reviewer (see WP:NPP for info on that). We review new Wikipedia pages to make sure that they are ready for the encyclopedia. Basically we are just a group of people that make sure the pages meet all the relevant policies, and then hit a button that allows the page to be read by the rest of the web (like Google search). In this particular case though, I did not look at the page in that sense, because it is being discussed at AfD (hence the message on the page). In the Page Patrolling instructions it says:
you can mark AfDed pages as 'reviewed', as their fate will be decided via discussion
. Basically, because the community will be discussing the page there is no need to make the patrollers do extra work reviewing a page when other people are already looking at it. What I did has no effect on the discussion at the articles 2nd AfD, which will still decide the future of the article. Happy Editing--IAmChaos 01:19, 21 May 2022 (UTC)- Ok, that makes sense. Thanks for that insight. Newliving (talk) 01:37, 21 May 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022
Hello IAmChaos,
At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.
Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.
In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 806 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 851 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.
This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.
If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}}
on their talk page.
If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.
To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

Trying to fix mobile rendering?
Hi, your userpage & talk were on my watchlist and realised that you want to make it mobile-friendly. Being on mobile myself, I'd suggest to use {{right}} instead of {{float}}. It keeps the ubx at the right just as you want to, but doesn't overlap (float) over the first piece of text, which is currently impossible to read on small screens due to the overlap. —CX Zoom[he/him] (let's talk • {C•X}) 06:26, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of User:Aux.research
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. A tag has been placed on User:Aux.research requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. How can I add pictures to the articles? --Taeshiro (talk) 05:56, 6 June 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @Taeshiro! To add a picture to an article, first it needs to be uploaded on Wikipedia, or on Wikimedia Commons. If it is, simply take the file's name and type
[[File:{Filename}.{filetype}
, For example, if I wanted to use this picture on this page, I would type[[File:Wikipedia logo dark-mode.svg|thumb]]
, and it would appear to the right, like you can see . If you have a photo not uploaded, go over and check out this page, after making sure that we are allowed to use it, our rules for pictures are at this page. Happy Editing--IAmChaos 14:49, 6 June 2022 (UTC)

Speedy Deletion Nomination of PanaBIOS

Your editorial actions regarding PanaBIOS
Dear IAmChaos, Your persistent actions against the PanaBIOS articles without any sound or logical basis are beginning to amount to vandalism. It appears that you are motivated by serious bigotry. Please explain clearly what your grounds and logic are for rushing to delete articles written about PanaBiOS, a seriously notable and extensively referenced article within seconds of posting when you couldn't possibly have read the article or researched it to establish any concerns about notability. It appears you have a perverse personal, political or corporate agenda and you should disclose them. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Quodprod (talk • contribs) 00:38, 12 June 2022 (UTC)
- First of all, Please sign your posts. I did not nominate your draft for deletion, I moved the WRONG page back to where it belongs, after you moved the WRONG page to the wrong spot. If I do that and you come to accuse such an action as being vandalism, YOU are in the wrong. Please see WP:NPA, which states
Comment on content, not on the contributor

New Page Patrol newsletter June 2022
Hello IAmChaos,
- Backlog status
At the time of the last newsletter (No.27, May 2022), the backlog was approaching 16,000, having shot up rapidly from 6,000 over the prior two months. The attention the newsletter brought to the backlog sparked a flurry of activity. There was new discussion on process improvements, efforts to invite new editors to participate in NPP increased and more editors requested the NPP user right so they could help, and most importantly, the number of reviews picked up and the backlog decreased, dipping below 14,000[a] at the end of May.
Since then, the news has not been so good. The backlog is basically flat, hovering around 14,200. I wish I could report the number of reviews done and the number of new articles added to the queue. But the available statistics we have are woefully inadequate. The only real number we have is the net queue size.[b]
In the last 30 days, the top 100 reviewers have all made more than 16 patrols (up from 8 last month), and about 70 have averaged one review a day (up from 50 last month).
While there are more people doing more reviews, many of the ~730 with the NPP right are doing little. Most of the reviews are being done by the top 50 or 100 reviewers. They need your help. We appreciate every review done, but please aim to do one a day (on average, or 30 a month).
- Backlog drive
A backlog reduction drive, coordinated by buidhe and Zippybonzo, will be held from July 1 to July 31. Sign up here. Barnstars will be awarded.
- TIP – New school articles
Many new articles on schools are being created by new users in developing and/or non-English-speaking countries. The authors are probably not even aware of Wikipedia's projects and policy pages. WP:WPSCH/AG has some excellent advice and resources specifically written for these users. Reviewers could consider providing such first-time article creators with a link to it while also mentioning that not all schools pass the GNG and that elementary schools are almost certainly not notable.
- Misc
There is a new template available, {{NPP backlog}}
, to show the current backlog. You can place it on your user or talk page as a reminder:
Very high unreviewed pages backlog: 13763 articles, as of 08:00, 28 November 2024 (UTC), according to DatBot
There has been significant discussion at WP:VPP recently on NPP-related matters (Draftification, Deletion, Notability, Verifiability, Burden). Proposals that would somewhat ease the burden on NPP aren't gaining much traction, although there are suggestions that the role of NPP be fundamentally changed to focus only on major CSD-type issues.

Jonathan D. Gray update Career section
Hi IAmChaos, I am turning to you since you have helped with an edit request previously for Jonathan D. Gray, and you seem to take an interest in finance articles. The Career section of Gray's bio is outdated and should be updated with a few more recent items, a discussed in the following articles: this and this , which have not yet been used in the Wikipedia article. To that end I have already submitted an edit request at Talk:Jonathan_D._Gray#Career_section_edits_request using those two articles and other sources. Please have a look at the edit request and the articles, and if you are so inclined update the Career section as you see fit. Thanks so much ThomasClements Blackstone (talk) 19:18, 5 July 2022 (UTC)

Come on, man
If you're gonna revert me for not doing it right, at least have the decency to do it right yourself. This is why nobody wants to edit Wikipedia. Benjamin (talk) 05:34, 9 July 2022 (UTC)

- And if that's the real reason, say that, not some bureaucratic nonsense. Benjamin (talk) 03:26, 10 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Benjaminikuta No bureaucratic nonsense from me. My reasoning is: It is a possible search term. It is mentioned on the target page (see note a on the revision as of this timestamp). And none of the pages on puru, a DAB page match the diacritics as well as the mention at the current target. Happy Editing--IAmChaos 04:37, 11 July 2022 (UTC)

Question from Sathishyadavwork (02:57, 19 July 2022)
Hi, Please tell me if Melcuous is qualified to edit Sivayogi's page if the Citations are in Tamil and he doesn't understand Tamil language? --Sathishyadavwork (talk) 02:57, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
- I believe you are referring to User:Melcous, who I will ping here, so she may chime in. Yes, she is qualified to edit pretty much every page on the English Wikipedia. She is a very trusted member of the community. You have now by my count made 5 reversions on one article, which qualifies you to be immediately blocked by any administrator per this policy, including reverting very helpful edits by an automated system. Melcous was also right to remove the information that was not cited. As one of our most important policies says:
Any material that needs a source but does not have one may be removed.
I suggest that you go to the article's talk page at Talk:Sivayogi, and ping User:Melcous, inviting them to a discussion about why she tagged the page, and removed content, and how to include it (if it should be included), and how to make the article better. But please stop the repeated reverting of her edits, and discuss the article, so that everyone can be happy with the final product, Wikipedia is a community after all, and when we work together, the project gets better. Happy Editing--IAmChaos 03:08, 19 July 2022 (UTC)- Thank you IAmChaos, for your clear explanations and for being more patient and gracious than I am today. I'm not confident collaboration will be possible here, but I'm happy to be proven wrong on that. Cheers, Melcous (talk) 03:14, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
- I am ready to Colloborate but I find it unreasonable to explain to someone when citations are in Tamil and the page is being edited like nobody cares. Sathishyadavwork (talk) 03:23, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
- Sathishyadavwork the page is being edited because people care about the encyclopedia and want it to be improved. If you are editing about a topic you are particularly close to, it can be difficult to be objective, but wikipedia has clear guidelines and policies that need to be followed, including those about reliable sourcing and neutral point of view, as well as a Manual of Style. It might be worth taking some time to read up on those before you edit further. Thank you Melcous (talk) 03:30, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
- I have read it. I am close to this topic. I am still objective. Wikipedia has clear guidelines and it is very clear about the topic of Reliable Sources being Ambiguous and not to be treated like as in a box. Some of your edits are clear and I accept and I will modify them. Thank you. Sathishyadavwork (talk) 03:47, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

- I find it totally unreasonable when citations in Tamil language are just not considered Citations and also the assumption that English Wikipedia needs only English Citations and this world will never know this man's great works if Wikipedia will become a hub of Over regulation. Wikipedia itself is a REBEL so is Sivayogi and with him me also. Sathishyadavwork (talk) 03:27, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

NPP drive award
New Page Patrol newsletter August 2022
Hello IAmChaos,
- Backlog status
After the last newsletter (No.28, June 2022), the backlog declined another 1,000 to 13,000 in the last week of June. Then the July backlog drive began, during which 9,900 articles were reviewed and the backlog fell by 4,500 to just under 8,500 (these numbers illustrate how many new articles regularly flow into the queue). Thanks go to the coordinators Buidhe and Zippybonzo, as well as all the nearly 100 participants. Congratulations to Dr vulpes who led with 880 points. See this page for further details.
Unfortunately, most of the decline happened in the first half of the month, and the backlog has already risen to 9,600. Understandably, it seems many backlog drive participants are taking a break from reviewing and unfortunately, we are not even keeping up with the inflow let alone driving it lower. We need the other 600 reviewers to do more! Please try to do at least one a day.
- Coordination
- MB and Novem Linguae have taken on some of the coordination tasks. Please let them know if you are interested in helping out. MPGuy2824 will be handling recognition, and will be retroactively awarding the annual barnstars that have not been issued for a few years.
- Open letter to the WMF
- The Page Curation software needs urgent attention. There are dozens of bug fixes and enhancements that are stalled (listed at Suggested improvements). We have written a letter to be sent to the WMF and we encourage as many patrollers as possible to sign it here. We are also in negotiation with the Board of Trustees to press for assistance. Better software will make the active reviewers we have more productive.
- TIP - Reviewing by subject
- Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages by their most familiar subjects can do so from the regularly updated sorted topic list.
- New reviewers
- The NPP School is being underused. The learning curve for NPP is quite steep, but a detailed and easy-to-read tutorial exists, and the Curation Tool's many features are fully described and illustrated on the updated page here.
- Reminders
- Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
- If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing
{{subst:NPR invite}}
on their talk page. - If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

Jonathan D. Gray update Career section
Hi IAmChaos, I am turning to you since you have helped with an edit request previously for Jonathan D. Gray. The Career section of Gray's bio should be updated with more recent information about Gray's approach as President & COO of Blackstone, and how it has influenced the firm's growth -- a subject extensively discussed in the following articles: this and this among others. These have not yet been used in the Wikipedia article. To that end I have already submitted an edit request at Talk:Jonathan_D._Gray#Career_section_edits_request using those two articles and other sources to support my statements. Please have a look at the edit request and the articles, and if you are so inclined update the Career section as you see fit. Thanks so much, your help is much appreciated. Question from Aphcoinc (19:46, 13 December 2022)
Hello. My name is Philippe. I am trying to update an exterior photo for the Walt Disney World Swan. It's the photo on the right below the logo. I was able to upload a new photo in the Commons: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Exterior_Walt_Disney_World_Swan_and_Dolphin.jpg
However, when I try to update it in the section, it says that the information Template is Generated from: Infobox Disney resort.
Do you know how I could add the new photo? I might have a formatting error for the file. Thank you for your assistance. --Aphcoinc (talk) 19:46, 13 December 2022 (UTC)

New Pages Patrol newsletter January 2023
Hello IAmChaos,
- Backlog
The October drive reduced the backlog from 9,700 to an amazing 0! Congratulations to WaddlesJP13 who led with 2084 points. See this page for further details. The queue is steadily rising again and is approaching 2,000. It would be great if <2,000 were the “new normal”. Please continue to help out even if it's only for a few or even one patrol a day.
- 2022 Awards
Onel5969 won the 2022 cup for 28,302 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 80/day. There was one Gold Award (5000+ reviews), 11 Silver (2000+), 28 Iron (360+) and 39 more for the 100+ barnstar. Rosguill led again for the 4th year by clearing 49,294 redirects. For the full details see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone!
Minimum deletion time: The previous WP:NPP guideline was to wait 15 minutes before tagging for deletion (including draftification and WP:BLAR). Due to complaints, a consensus decided to raise the time to 1 hour. To illustrate this, very new pages in the feed are now highlighted in red. (As always, this is not applicable to attack pages, copyvios, vandalism, etc.)
New draftify script: In response to feedback from AFC, the The Move to Draft script now provides a choice of set messages that also link the creator to a new, friendly explanation page. The script also warns reviewers if the creator is probably still developing the article. The former script is no longer maintained. Please edit your edit your common.js or vector.js file from User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js
to User:MPGuy2824/MoveToDraft.js
Redirects: Some of our redirect reviewers have reduced their activity and the backlog is up to 9,000+ (two months deep). If you are interested in this distinctly different task and need any help, see this guide, this checklist, and spend some time at WP:RFD.
Discussions with the WMF The PageTriage open letter signed by 444 users is bearing fruit. The Growth Team has assigned some software engineers to work on PageTriage, the software that powers the NewPagesFeed and the Page Curation toolbar. WMF has submitted dozens of patches in the last few weeks to modernize PageTriage's code, which will make it easier to write patches in the future. This work is helpful but is not very visible to the end user. For patches visible to the end user, volunteers such as Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have been writing patches for bug reports and feature requests. The Growth Team also had a video conference with the NPP coordinators to discuss revamping the landing pages that new users see.
- Reminders

- There is live chat with patrollers on the New Page Patrol Discord.
- Please add the project discussion page to your watchlist.

Question from DoogieDoo (07:15, 9 March 2023)
Hi, I made my first edit to an article and referenced an episode of a TV show. It got rejected because it said there wasn't a reliable source cited. The TV show episode itself is the source. Can you assist me in learning how to cite a TV show episode? --DoogieDoo (talk) 07:15, 9 March 2023 (UTC)
- Hi User:DoogieDoo. I would refer you to the message left on your own talk page by User:Doniago, who provided a link to a great resource on sourcing. I would encourage you to read The link he left, and particularly the third paragraph:
which describes you should use secondary sources, not the show itself. We require information on Wikipedia to be Notable and cited in Independent reliable sources. To help you cite when you do have a source, see the other page User:Doniago linked: Help:Referencing for beginners. Happy Editing--IAmChaos 00:27, 10 March 2023 (UTC)Although some references may be plainly verified by primary sources, this does not demonstrate the significance of the reference. Furthermore, when the primary source in question only presents the reference, interpretation of this may constitute original research where the reference itself is ambiguous. If a cultural reference is genuinely significant it should be possible to find a reliable secondary source that supports that judgment.
- I guess I'm not following... Why can't the original source material be cited as the reference? The detail that I mentioned in my edit may have not been noticed by anybody previously but me, thus there won't be any other sources citing it. For instance, if somebody makes an edit that says "At the end of Star Wars the Death Star explodes", wouldn't the movie itself be the reference? Why do we need to find someplace else that mentions the Death Star exploding when anybody can simply watch the movie to see that that information is true? DoogieDoo (talk) 04:28, 10 March 2023 (UTC)

Question from Boronij (00:13, 23 March 2023)
Hello! I just want to confirm if it is okay for me to edit things. I am not the person that goes around ruining pages, I just maybe want to fix grammar or something. If someone else already does this, I will not edit things. Thank you! --Boronij (talk) 00:13, 23 March 2023 (UTC)

- WikiProject Medicine Newsletter
Hello all. Another irregular edition of the newsletter; pardon the six-month gap. I was inspired to collect this after seeing how much activity there is in the GA space on the medicine front. Please review a GAN if you have time, and help to welcome more medicine editors into the fold:

- Wikipedia:Good article reassessment is back in business, with a new process and new coordinators. If you see medicine-related GAs that may no longer meet the GA criteria, feel free to nominate them for attention/reassessment (please, not too many at once, lest we get overwhelmed). I'll incorporate them into the listings above.
- Major depressive disorder, Schizophrenia, and Dengue fever are featured articles that need updating. Feel free to chime in at the talk pages or WT:MED if you have the time/bandwidth to help update. They'll likely go to featured article review for more feedback in the near(ish) future (probably in the order listed).
Newsletter ideas, comments, and criticisms welcome here.
