🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 13:52, 30 November 2023 (UTC)"Jurassic angiosperms"
editAny claims of pre-Cretaceous angiosperms are extremely controversial, and it is inappropriate to jump the gun on new studies regarding claims like this, when many previous claims have been rejected. See this paper for an introduction to the topic [1] Put it this way, if they had an actually legit unambiguous Jurassic angiosperms, why is this being published in a MDPI journal rather than in a more presitigous publication like Nature? - Are these good enough, or is Nanjinganthus still dubious? IC1101-Capinatator (talk) 13:35, 1 December 2023 (UTC)
- No, because they are the same authors that originally published the study claiming Nanjinganthus was an angiosperm, it doesn't demonstrate that the claims are widely accepted by paleobotanists. Hemiauchenia (talk) 17:54, 1 December 2023 (UTC)
- That makes sense. I guess the Hunting the Snark paper was right after all! Although the fact that it mostly got dismissed because it wasn’t pentamerous is a bit odd when many modern flowers aren’t. IC1101-Capinatator (talk) 19:15, 1 December 2023 (UTC)

QuantumRealm (meow🦁 • pawtrack🐾) 12:23, 12 December 2023 (UTC)Edit Summary Etiquette
editRegarding your edit summary on Mobulavermis, it does not abide by the rules we should follow by, you're a new user so these mistakes are bound to happen. Edit summaries should not be made with snide or rude remarks as per the rules surrounding them (which can be found here). The goal of edit summaries is to note the changes made and explain the reasonings if nessesary, not to shame fellow editors who are only doing the best they can. In this instance, "Fixed typos + added Category:Cambrian Nevada" would've been a more than appropriate edit summary to use. Keep in mind you have no idea the circumstances of your fellow editors. The goal should be encouraging any who are willing to edit to do so, that includes people with disabilities. Language such as that of what you used in your edit summary counters that goal of accessibility. I know for a fact that other editors will not take a personal attack as lightly (nor will some of the admins) as I do, so please be more careful in the future if not for following the rules, for your own sake. Sauriazoicillus (talk) 06:31, 14 December 2023 (UTC)
- Sorry about that. I’ll try to avoid it in the future. IC1101-Capinatator (talk) 06:48, 14 December 2023 (UTC)
Edits that look as if they are claiming facts from existing citations
editHi, sorry to trouble you, but your recent edit to Arthropod, while surely intended to be constructive, would make it look to future readers and editors as if the link you added named a taxon that was in the source cited immediately afterwards: only, it wasn't. The effect of this is to break the connection, essential for verification, between the text and its citations.
That connection is vital and central to how Wikipedia works.
With it, we have {claim: fact + source}, a verifiable encyclopedic claim.
Without it, we have {unsupported fact} + {abused source that does not support the facts placed next to it}. That structure permits any kind of original research, fraudulent claims, self-promotion, advertising, political lobbying, in fact any kind of nonsense at all.
Therefore, it is essential to add a citation when you add a fact, or equivalently to verify by inspecting the existing source that the claim you are making is in fact verifying your fact already. The whole structure and reliability of Wikipedia depends on this one thing, so it really matters. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 14:50, 5 January 2024 (UTC)

- Firstly, there don’t seem to be any references for Westrichus other than the one describing it. Second, I translated the Italian Wikipedia article (which shows that it can, in fact qualify for an article) and used that as a base: https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westrichus_kraetschmeri IC1101-Capinatator (talk) 10:55, 18 September 2024 (UTC)

- Ah, I’m sorry about that. I didn’t know about the “text from other-language Wikipedias” rule. Also, I’m curious how Westrichus is “not notable enough” for an article, because it meets all the notability criteria just as much as something like Cambrocaris does. (I.e. the only reason there’s one source is because nothing else has been published about it yet) IC1101-Capinatator (talk) 16:21, 18 September 2024 (UTC)

editHello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
