Usernames
editThanks for reporting that user at WP:RFCN. FYI, for obviously vandal names, you can go straight to WP:AIV. Normally, though, names like that don't go too long without getting noticed, particularly when it's daytime in the US. --BigDT 14:06, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
Re:Error in reverting
editNot a problem. I rather suspected that it was a simple mistake when I checked your contribs and found no history of vandalism, which is why I didn't give you a warning template. Just try to be more careful in the future.--Dycedarg ж 02:14, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

{{helpme}}
Hi, I have a couple of questions about tables if someone could explain that would be very nice.
- 1. Am I allowed to use html code to create a table, or do I have to use to use the wikitable code ?
- 2.I would like to use a box like there is on the page Paris, on the page Pommeuse I created. I figured I could just copy the table from Paris across and replace the text where needed. However I don't have information for all of the categories. I have the Pommeuse coat of arms and would like to insert that, I don't want to insert other images like there are for Paris, like the town flag. However if I delete or leave the flag category blank, then the coat of arms does not display either.
How can I get it to display the coat of arms only, no other images in the infobox ?
Thanks if you can help me with this, to keep the article in setting with other similar ones. And sorry if it was in the help, I looked but couldn't see it.
- HTML code does work to create tables in Wikipedia. However, wikitable code is preferred because it's easier for new editors to read and edit (trying to edit a large HTML table is a pain).
- That particular infobox design only works when a flag is available. You could try copying from a different city that displays a coat of arms only. You could also try using a placeholder image, such as Image:Image-request.svg, to indicate that there isn't an image but you think that one could be found.
- Hope that helps; put {{helpme}} back up if you have any more questions. --ais523 17:00, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

"Only edits deleting"
editHi... you left a message on my talk page asking why my only edits are deleting. This s not true. It certainly may be true that the only edits on this particular IP address are deletions, I have a long, long history of edits here, many of which are dedicated to removing spam and non-encyclopedic cruft from articles. See WP:ENC if you need a reminder of what this whole website is about. It's not a fanlisting, it's not a web directory, it's supposed to be an ENCYCLOPEDIA. Your comment that I should "check" what I am deleting is misplaced, because I can assure that I do check all of my edits, and that they are appropriate, if not long overdue, regardless of your insinuation. I typically don;t sign in because my user name became hounded by spammers and Pokemon fan kiddies and whatnot all pissed off that their nonsense got deleted. 216.165.151.13 22:05, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

Requesting some help
editI was looking at the page Gag Factor, while I'm not offended by pornography, and I understand wikipedia is not censored, I find the images inappropriate, and unnecessarily forced upon on someone who may find the page by accident.
My question is: is it tolerated to show extreme pornography even if it illustrates the subject well?
Thanks if you can answer, and sorry if this is explained somewhere else, I couldn't find any information about images in pornographic film stubs.

Trivia about Kaka
editI think it's a well known fact that most Brazilians are of portuguese decent. Remember Brazil was a portuguese colony. If they have any other ethnicity then it's not quite as obvious. Kingjeff 15:23, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
- Did you see the post I left on your discussion page? I may not have put it in the correct place, if so I'm sorry. Basically Brazil is not like the US where the Anglo-Saxons exterminated almost all the native population. A very large part of the population is not of Portuguese decent, and most of the seleção is not. This is one of the things the team is renowned for, (as many teams), the players have achieved stardom from nothing. Rivaldo, Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, are all well known players who are not of Portuguese origin. They grew up very poor, whereas Kaka is the son of an engineer and grew up in a fairly rich environment, comparable to that of Europeans (as his family was of Portuguese origin). Most of the Seleçao is not of Portuguese origin and grew up in very bad conditions, Rivaldo especially.
Only 53% of Portuguese are white, and about half of those 53% are Portuguese. Even though Portuguese outnumber any other ethnic group, they only represent less than 1/3 of the population. Therefore most of the population (2/3) is not of Portuguese origin. --Jackaranga 13:12, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Regarding a recent message you left for User:Libertyernie2
editDon't expect too much to come from leaving TTN messages, no matter how calm, collected, and logical your arguments may be. I even went so far as to leave a message at the administrator's noticeboard to get help, but the only responses I got were that he was doing nothing wrong and was just being bold. Even after I said over and over again that his edits were disruptive, I was still told that his edits were fine. It seems this behavior is supported in the Wikipedia community as them being bold even though I, personally, think it is disruptive and rude. --pIrish 01:35, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

Eric Johnson
editHey Jackaranga - Thanks for deleting that reference to the expected release of Eric Johnson's acoustic album in 2015 (inexplicable vandalism... unless Eric himself made the edit??). I caught that too - you beat me to it. :) I've added a good amount of content to that article (and Cliffs of Dover) and I would be happy to have you review it. I also just added an article today -- Johnny A.. Are you a fan? Any input is appreciated. Gekritzl 01:19, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry, I'm not a fan in particular, I just reverted random vandalism, by looking at the recent changes, also if I see someone has vandalised one page then I check his other edits. I don't know anything about Johnny A., or didn't until reading the article you started anyway :). You seem to have created the article well though, just for your information, you don't need a disambiguation tag if there are no other articles with the a similar title. --Jackaranga 01:31, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

Speedy deletion tagging
editHello! I know, there is an overwhelming amount of images tagged for deletion. It is crazy that there are so many. The problem is that they are Commons images with empty description pages on Wikipedia. I categorized some of them and what I thought were similar pages when I encountered them in Special:Uncategorized images because I didn't quite understand why these pages were showing up on Wikipedia as uncategorized. I don't think I quite understood it until someone replied to a comment on Wikipedia talk:Special:Uncategorizedimages about CSD I2. From there, I went back in my edit history and marked for deletion all the images I should have initially marked for deletion but didn't - this is like a week of deletion requests compressed into a few hours. The special page has been cleared out significantly since I last looked at it, so I assume someone with deletion powers took the time to go through it. Many of the pages were ones that had been created by a vandal and then blanked by another user without being deleted. For an example of what it should look like, look at Image:George-Washington.jpg. The description page on Wikipedia is empty and has been deleted 3 times, but the image is still there. The pages are not tagged because there is a problem with the images - they will still show up when the description pages are deleted. The CSD I2 for these is not for missing or empty images, it is for empty description pages for Commons-hosted images. --Strangerer (Talk) 12:00, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
Good point -- both images were edited from a third. I found the actual source image on the same website and repaired the template to point to the correct image. Thanks for catching that. --Butseriouslyfolks 19:10, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Articles for Creation: Confirmation Bias
editYou rejected my proposed redirect of Confirmation Bias to Confirmation bias on the grounds that there is already an article for Confirmation Bias. There is no article for Confirmation Bias with both letters capitalized; thus, a redirect seemed useful. 69.138.188.233 16:13, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
- I created it for you, it's hard to tell sometimes because even when Confirmation Bias did not exist, typing it into the box and clicking go took me there straight away. But you are right clicking a link did not, I forgot that the search box is not case sensitive but that links are. That's why we don't usually create this kind of page, because it is expected that the person creating the link check he linked to the correct page. There are many many pages like this, for example Spirit of justice (Spirit of Justice). --Jackaranga 23:21, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

Superb work at AFC!
editI'd like to commend you for your work at AFC. I'm a newcomer to the area, but you seem to breeze through hundreds of nominations like they're nothing!
Alright, so I need some help. I was wondering if you have any idea how to set it up so that a page will automatically have the {{afc n}} at the top, and it can be changed (manually) to {{afc c}} when done. Whatever archives those pages seems to transclude {{Wikipedia:Articles for creation/Daily header}}, but adding {{afc n}} is much too complicated for me. ALTON .ıl 07:20, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- You already figured it out though, so you get the credit! Perhaps I'll ask around for that addition, or a better idea for categorizing the archives. Now I guess we need to find a solution to the impossible backlog... ALTON .ıl 22:37, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Duplicate images uploaded
editThanks for uploading Image:Armenia France Locator.png. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:Armenia-France-Locator.png. The copy called Image:Armenia-France-Locator.png has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.
This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and refer to 'my contributions' to remind yourself exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions about this notice, or feel that the deletion is inappropriate, please contact User:Staecker, who operates the robot account. Staeckerbot 23:32, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
Unspecified source for Image:Turkey_Azerbaijan_Locator.png
editThanks for uploading Image:Turkey_Azerbaijan_Locator.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 06:04, 11 June 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. OsamaK 06:04, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
Hi, I noticed you created this article (following a request). It mentions making Port Stephens the most marginal electorate in New South Wales. Do you have a reference for that comment, because the results of individual seats aren't particularly summarised at the virtual tally room and making that comment would be the result of checking the marginal status of every individual seat (which is not a trivial analysis in my opinion).
Thanks,Garrie 03:17, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
- I see what went on. While I don't dispute that Port Stephens is the most marginal electorate in the state, to verify that would require looking at the margin for each electorate because the NSW website doesn't have a summary. I was being hopeful more than anything. Garrie 05:40, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:Zhang Ziyi in Musa.jpg
editThanks for uploading Image:Zhang Ziyi in Musa.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NAHID 21:21, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

I've removed your PROD from CMSimple, as this article had already been nominated for deletion previously. This was noted pretty clearly in the talk page. This makes it not a candidate for proposed deletion. If you think this article is not appropriate for wikipedia you'll have to nominate it for deletion again. Wibbble 21:17, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

Re: Typo (content management system)
editI have contested this proposed deletion. How much research are you doing before putting these up for WP:PROD? — ceejayoz talk 15:30, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
- The WP:VERIFY quote you used applies - in its own words - to material likely to be challenged and quotations. There's only one quotation (by a loose definition of the term) in the article and it's sourced, and none of the other material appears likely to be challenged. — ceejayoz talk 02:58, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
I've removed the PROD tag you added to this article. I no longer actively edit the article due to potential conflict of interest (see my user page), but I believe that the correct action in this case is to take steps to improve the article; in the future, when you see an article which you feel could be improved, please do so instead of immediately proposing deletion, as deletion proposals do not add anything useful to Wikipedia. Ubernostrum 07:40, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
I've removed the PROD tag you added to this article. The article in question does not require deletion, but only some cleanup. Deleting pages with good and useful content on them doesn't help wikipedia at all, and the article in question has existed since January 5th, 2004, which means it must have some sort of value to wikipedia; otherwise it would have been deleted long ago. In the future, when you see an article which you feel could be improved, please do so instead of immediately proposing deletion. -KULSHRAX 12:18, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi Jackaranga, thanks for translating this article from the Fr-wiki. Are you sure it is actually under the command of UNOCI? Everything I've seen (and I'm in France learning French at the moment) indicates that it is a French force under French command operating in parallel, but not under the control, of the United Nations. Appreciate some clarification. Thanks Buckshot06 15:48, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
- Um, the top line in the infobox, and the line in the first paragraph. Much clearer to say something like 'A French military force in the Ivory Coast in a peacekeeping role, which co-operates with the UN Mission UNOCI which has much the same task'. It is not 'part of the UN Mission in the Ivory Coast'.
Interarmes? Depends on the context. If you mean the GTIAs like GTIA 43, in the US Army they're 'battalion task forces' and in the British/Commonwealth army system 'battalion groups' - essentially a infantry or armoured battalion with attachments and detachments depending on the mission. For company sized groupings, the US Army used 'company team' in the 1980s, thus Harold Coyle's 'Team Yankee', and the Brits use 'company group'. For other groupings, you'd have to ask me about the specific grouping, but 'inter-branch unit' or 'inter-corps unit' would work for most things. Hope that helps. Cheers Buckshot06 19:13, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

- Fortunately, those templates wouldn't be used, as they would contradict the essay, so no one will have to worry about a "don't template established users" template, but having them on a page like that gives a nice, humorous view for the essay. :) Acalamari 17:30, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

Hey Jacky boy
editFair Use on Velociraptor
edit- The image: Image:JPvelociraptor.png
- Hi, please re-read WP:NFC#10(a) as regards Fair Use images, a copyright holder must be provided, I know many people forget this, myself included, as well as most users I would say. Perhaps I did not use the correct deletion tag, however I could not find a more appropriate one, and I asked at WP:AN but nobody answered and my question was archived. Jackaranga 09:55, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
- I am familiar with the policy. You tagged the image for deletion with {{di-no source}}, which stated the article had no source information, which is not correct. Now you are stating the image should have been deleted because the copyright holder wasn't provided. However, the licensing tag states "This image is a screenshot from a copyrighted film, and the copyright for it is most likely owned by the studio which produced the film." Tagging an image for deletion with a false tag isn't helpful. Removing detailed fair use rationales isn't helpful. I didn't upload this image, but I think the willful destruction of someone else's work is pretty awful, and telling someone to "re-read" the policy when you yourself didn't even use the correct tag is beyond the pale. Please avoid copyright paranoia. The image clearly falls into the WP:NFC#Acceptable_images category: "Film and television screen shots [used] for critical commentary and discussion of the cinema and television."; the image is accompanied by several paragraphs of critical commentary of the animal's depiction in the film. Finally, I will note that the article is a Featured Article, representing what the Wikipedia community (or a stringent portion of it) believes is the best work on Wikipedia, and there were no reservations about this image when it became a Featured Article. Since you also left a note on my talk page reminding me to re-read the policy, I'm cross-posting this to your talk page as well. Firsfron of Ronchester 16:09, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
- Note: I don't believe I did use the wrong tag, {{di-no source-notice}} leads me to believe it was the correct one, and it's not my fault people don't understand what is meant by "no source" (the source is the creator, the originator of the work, not amazon.com or the name of the film) . Also all the other accusations are baseless (I have never deleted any images, I didn't remove any rationales, I asked on WP:AN before using the tag and got no response after 3 days). BTW it is against WP policy to leave raw foreign language text in an article, so I suggest my technique which is leaving it commented <!-- Like this --> so it won't show up to readers, but you can still work off it. Thanks! -Oreo Priest 10:55, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
- Writing in the historical present is not acceptable in English academic works (like this, but unlike a novel). It's worth noting that the French Wikipedia tends to be much, much looser in its stylistic requirements, and articles translated from French should be given a more encyclopedic tone in English. Also, please try to make the translated sentences more idiomatic and smooth; I find good practise is to read what you have just written and see if it sounds normal or awkward.
- Having gotten the less positive comments out of the way, I can move on to the good ones! The article was fairly long, and for you to translate it in so small a time was quite an effort! In particular, having translated other textile articles from French to English, I'm very impressed with your work on the last bullet point of the first paragraph, that can't have been easy, and it's very helpful now. I deleted the trades that neither of us could translate, as they slow down the flow of the article and are included in "etc." -Oreo Priest 23:17, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
- I didn't do that and don't know how. Would you mind? -Oreo Priest 11:35, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
Photograph of Sarkozy
editI find your revert [2], and particularly its comment, completely out of order:
- The photograph is not "my own", it is a photograph by a professional photographer of Agência Brasil (as you would know if you had taken care of checking the image)
- It is trivially better than the previous one because it is a full portrait (rather than a vague profile taken from a distance)
- I fail to see anything in Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Images that is relevant to the present case
Wikipedia is a wiki, and while things have to be done in consensus, we don't have to ask permission to edit things like that. Rama 00:27, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
- Yet it clearly is relevant : Exception: Portraits with the head looking to the reader's right should be left-aligned (looking into the text of the article) Also I believe the fact that you are an admin does not mean you should not at least provide an edit summary when replacing the main infobox photo in a blp article, especially if the new photo appears to show the subject in a more negative light. Africa map
editHi. In the map of Africa and Europe you inserted in the Western Desert Campaign article I think that the naming of Yemen and the Aden Protectorate should be switched. Regards Stephen Kirrage talk - contribs 10:16, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Jackaranga. First and foremost, thanks for creating all those maps at the request section. I have a few suggestions regarding the Western Desert Campaign map though:
- Changing French Somaliland to affiliate with Vichy France, not the Free French.
- Affiliating Malta with the British, and labeling it.
- Swapping Aden and Yemen
- Labeling Crete
- Oh, and could you tell me where you got that massive map? I'd love to get a global version, assuming that the borders are WWII era.
- Again, thanks! Oberiko 13:13, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for you help both of you, I also added a few more labels. I made the base map with GMT, then coloured it and wrote the names on in the GIMP. The coast lines and the borders are from current years though unfortunately, so I had to modify them afterwards. It is true though that it would be good to have a detailed map of the world as it was pre-war or at different times in history even. I couldn't find one anywhere on the commons, only low res ones. Perhaps something to work on, many colony articles use incorrect maps that show the borders as they are today ex:Spanish Guinea, I guess because there was no colonial map detailed enough to show such a small country. Jackaranga 18:30, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
If you want to get a map of the world with it's current borders in GMT the following parameters should work:
pscoast -P -Rd -Ba5f5 -Jm0/0/0.5c -N1/0.25p, -W0.25p,black -Df -Ggreen -S0/0/150 -Lf347/46/34/1000k:"Kilometres":tc
But be warned if you do this you will get a huge file, and uploading it to wikipedia or the commons may be of limited use, because the wiki software can't generate thumbnails for png images containing more than 12.5 million pixels.
- The map were just talking about was made with the following commands:
pscoast -P -R-20/60/0/48 -Ba5f5 -Jm0/24/0.5c -N1/0.25p, -W0.25p,black -Df -Ggreen -S0/0/150 -Lf347/46/34/1000k:"Kilometres":tc > africa_1940.ps

- Thanks for the advice and the corrections Jackaranga, I'll give those programs a try this weekend. A few last bit I see though are (sorry to be nit-picky, but I think I'll be using this map for a great number of Mediterranean-Middle East related articles in WWII):
- Crete is associated with the British, I think it should be neutral as it was part of Greek territory.
- Could we merge Etritria, Italian Somaliland and Ethiopia into Italian East Africa?
- Again, thanks a lot, from what I've seen, we have a real shortage of people who are good with maps. Oberiko 15:27, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

Image:Wiki Jyun.PNG
editI believe you have incorrectly tagged Image:Wiki Jyun.PNG as not being in compliance with NFCC10a, which states that image description pages must contain "[a]ttribution of the source of the material and, if different from the source, of the copyright holder." However, in the image description the uploader states that the source was "Narutaru volume 5"-- the context making it clear that this is a manga comic book. While not the most complete citation possible, it does seem to identify the source-- I was able to find the book on Amazon armed with just that information in a matter of seconds. So if you think there is something so inadequate about the source attribution that the image must be deleted, I respectfully suggest that you explain in detail in the edit summary, on the talk page for the image, or on the uploader's talk page what you think the problem might be so that the uploader will understand how to fix the problem. Hope this is helpful. Crypticfirefly 15:03, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for nominating this a TfD. I had come across a couple of these pics and was just looking into the source (US site), but realized that they're going to be replaceable fair use no matter what. - Caught 2 more - that's 187 images to date! And I thought it was bad when I had 3 (moves, titles not updated)! SkierRMH 06:57, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- Image:Istvan Palfi (EP, 6th term).jpg seems to be the only one deceased, but a quick google search for pics showed quite a few since the DOD is 2006. Arguable use, but still no fair use rationale added as of yet... SkierRMH 02:11, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
Non-free use rationale for images on the Narutaru characters page
editHello, I noticed you have said that there is disputable fair use rationale for the images that you listed on my talk page and used in the Shadow Star characters article, including Image:Wiki_Shunji.PNG. But the fair use rationale is all right there and filled out; source, copyright holder, reason for use, and all else. Please consider rethinking your concern that the images have no fair use rationale. Thank you. --Selo12394 01:23, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- Well, yes you just added the copyright holder in this diff, that's good it is compliant now. Jackaranga 01:39, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- I see someone else removed them all from the article anyway, because they think fair-use images are forbidden in lists, I don't know if this is correct procedure or not. Jackaranga 04:04, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

Are you convinced by the argument on the image talk page that the image is worth keeping? Can you specify one way or the other, as it has been a while? --AnonEMouse (squeak) 16:42, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
- My opinion is that it is probably not allowed at the reading of WP:Non-free content#Unacceptable images#12. But Wikipedia:Deletion of all fair use images of living people gives some valid points as to why the image could be kept, and your explanation is detailed and specific, so probably it's ok. It definitely doesn't bother me personally anyway, you can remove the deletion tag. It could be said that in this case the image is irreplaceable: in order for this article to meet the NPOV policy you need either both or neither picture, and deleting valid material is not a solution. Perhaps it should be moved from the infobox and placed further down the page as is the case for many actor's articles. I think as a general rule when users can't agree (/are not sure ) it is best to keep. Jackaranga (talk) 20:31, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

The uploader hasn't added this information and I'm unsure which tag to use... Thanks Mangwanani (talk) 12:14, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
- Can I add, Image:HEverard.jpg, Image:JZGumede.jpg, Image:CSBanana.jpg, Image:CDupont.jpg, Image:ATMuzorewa.jpg to the Rhodesian ones. There are some South African ones too, so if you know of a South African tag for the same purpose I would be grateful to have it. Thanks Mangwanani (talk) 12:24, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks. Its only Gumede and Banana after independence, the rest are before then, unless the Rhodesian UDI voids the PD British Govt. tag... Mangwanani (talk) 19:04, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
- Also, I am still unclear what tag to actually put on the image and what FUR I could use. I think you're more clued up on these matters than I am... Mangwanani (talk) 19:13, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Help (again)
editHi there. Once again I'd like some help on copyright status. The COA of Iceland has been nominated for deletion under a derivative works or something like that when the supposed raster image wasn't even the base image. Also, its no different to any other Vector COA or flag made on the Wiki through the Graphics Lab so I don't see whats different about this image. Please have a say on your thoughts here: Commons:Commons:Deletion requests/Image:Coat of Arms of Iceland.svg. Thanks. Mangwanani (talk) 17:49, 25 May 2008 (UTC) (Sorry forgot to sign) Mangwanani (talk) 17:49, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for that. It struck me that the image is on a lot of pages as it is on a template. Would it be acceptable to add a rationale for the template or would it another image have to be found. Mangwanani (talk) 16:25, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
New Zealand COA and empty images
editOK, thanks for explaining that, it is very confusing and I don't get involved in image deletion much (I probably shouldn't after this!) so I wasn't aware that the category in the Wikipedia space was duplicating the Commons image. I've deleted the image, and now that I know what that very vague CSD template is referring to, I'll check for that in the future. --Canley (talk) 02:17, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Astaroth SCIV.jpg)
editThanks for uploading Image:Astaroth SCIV.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:13, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Distribution of tufted capuchins
editHello, Mr. Jackaranga. I have a request on your image of the distribution of tufted capuchins (Cebus apella). Groves' (2001) Primate taxonomy (ISBN 978-1-56098-872-4) provides the recent ideas on the primate classification, which says the former Cebus apella was divided into four: C. apella, C. libidinosus, C. nigritus, and C. xanthosternos. The articles of capuchin species in Wikipedia follow the classification shown in Groves (2001). So the distribution range should be reduced according to that division.
Honestly, I can't tell you how to correct it because many reports gave us very different distibutions. Roghly, the northern portion of your image corresponds to the distribution of C. apella; the northern part of the southern portion, C. xanthosternos; the southern part of the southern portion, C. nigritus; the gap (non-shaded area) between the northern and southern portion of your image, C. libidinosus. Of course, the above description was just rough even though I tried describing it based on Fragaszy et al.'s (2004) The complete capuchin (pp. 17–22; ISBN 978-0-521-66116-4).
When you have sufficient time to access the appropriate source and redraw the map, I'd be happy if you accept my request. Thank you. Shaxshan (talk) 16:58, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
Topo maps
editHello, I noticed that you create topographic maps. That's great ! there is just an hand of user able to do such maps. The leader on this side is commons:user:Sting, I encourage you to look at his gallery on commons. I don't remember clearly, but I think he also have tools to ease his work (scales, conventions). You can go to talk with him, that would be interesting if the English Graphic lab can also start a Graphic_Lab/Maps_workshop ;), as sting did on wiki-fr. Yug (talk) 21:45, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
WOW
editThank you SO MUCH for the amazing amazing physical map of Ratanakiri Province. (I had gotten distracted and forgotten about my GL request....) I'm adding it to the article now, and it's inspired me to finally make the finishing touches this article needs to get to FA! Calliopejen1 (talk) 04:19, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
Replaceable fair use Image:Firstdayhungary.jpg
editThanks for uploading Image:Firstdayhungary.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ww2censor (talk) 18:17, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

Unreferenced BLPs
editHello Jackaranga! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 55 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

Ratanakiri map
editHello Jack,
I'am looking for sources to create maps about the Ratanakiri region. I noticed your 2008 map File:Ratanakiri physical map.svg have more rivers and roads than Ratanikiri, Cambodge, on OpenStreetMap have. So, May i ask your sources (GIS files) ? Yug (talk) 11:32, 21 February 2013 (UTC)
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Replaceable non-free use File:Coat of arms of South Africa.svg
editThanks for uploading File:Coat of arms of South Africa.svg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of non-free use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable non-free use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Miniature sheet france.jpg
editThank you for uploading File:Miniature sheet france.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Vanjagenije (talk) 22:05, 12 March 2024 (UTC)

The article Dmitri Shoukov has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
I don't think the subject is notable, I can't find any reliable, indepedent and indepth sources. They are also a living person, so probably a BLP violation.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Sebbog13 (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2024 (UTC)
