About a vandal
Hi. An user that you've recently blocked vandalised their own talk page. Could you do a hard block for it?Ahmetlii (talk) 17:28, 24 January 2021 (UTC)
Oops! :-)
It looks like we both protected Robinhood (company) at the exact same time. I went with a three hour duration, as I think that people will give up and move on by then. If you think it should be longer, feel free to extend it. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:16, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
- Oshwah, no problem at all. I would assume that three hours should fine. I just went with the Twinkle default when I protected it. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 14:18, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
- I figured as much. Cool deal! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:21, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
I saw the filter log, and while those were not helpful attempts at edits, do you really think they alone merit a no-warning block? I'm certainly not one who is known to be soft on vandals, but two attempted edits in the space of less than a minute seems like a pretty pretty thin rationale for blocking the next day. Beeblebrox (talk) 21:59, 29 January 2021 (UTC)
- Beeblebrox, with the rash of edits like those that we've had lately, do you honestly believe that they are going to be constructive in the future? If so, feel free to unblock. I have no problem with that. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 22:13, 29 January 2021 (UTC)
IPv6 block
Hi Jauerback, when blocking IPv6s, it's worth checking the /64 range that contains the IP because the whole /64 is often allocated to the same user and you sometimes spot other examples of the same sort of vandalism in that range. In those cases, you probably will want to block the whole /64 range because they frequently hop IPs in the range. For 2001:14BB:420:2E11:C839:8B3C:5E6A:43CE, if you check contributions for 2001:14BB:420:2E11:0:0:0:0/64 you'll see a few more instances. I hope you don't mind, I've re-blocked the whole range to the same expiry date that you set. --RexxS (talk) 22:28, 29 January 2021 (UTC)
- RexxS, that's something I didn't know. I'll try to do that in the future. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 22:29, 29 January 2021 (UTC)
- The downside is that it's hard to leave a meaningful block notice because those sort of IP-hopping vandals will probably never see that talk page again. I usually block the range straight from the page where I checked the range's contributions (there's a 'block' link near the top). Then I use Twinkle to leave a notice on the single IP talk page, even though it's probably a waste of time. Twinkle is quite handy because it allows you to separate the blocking and the notifying. --RexxS (talk) 22:36, 29 January 2021 (UTC)
- Is there an easy way to get the /64 range? Jauerbackdude?/dude. 22:40, 29 January 2021 (UTC)
- Sure. Let me take an example of the 2001:14BB:420:2E11:C839:8B3C:5E6A:43CE vandal:
- First click the link to their contributions. You end up at Special:Contributions/2001:14BB:420:2E11:C839:8B3C:5E6A:43CE with four results.
- Then use the down arrow to open up the Search for contributions
- Next. edit the User box to remove the last four blocks from the IPV6 - so you get
2001:14BB:420:2E11:
- Add another colon at the end (making two) and add /64 - so you get
2001:14BB:420:2E11::/64
- Then click Search and you'll see nine results.
- If you think they are the same vandal, you look at the line near the top beneath "From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia" and you'll see a link to block, which will take you straight to the Block page with the range filled in for you.
- Afterwards, you can go to their talk page and Use Twinkle to leave the block notice (for what it's worth) – just untick the first box 'Block user' as that's already done. Make sure you use the same settings! Cheers --RexxS (talk) 23:09, 29 January 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks! Jauerbackdude?/dude. 23:10, 29 January 2021 (UTC)
- You get the same results even quicker when you just add /64 to the end of the IP address. See Special:Contributions/2001:14BB:420:2E11:C839:8B3C:5E6A:43CE/64. Widr (talk) 23:36, 29 January 2021 (UTC)

- Thanks for you help. I have another question - this edit was just made to my talk page. I assume it's the same guy and he's attempting to make some sort of veiled threat to harass me. Is there any way to protect my talk page so that he can't just keep creating new accounts and threatening me? Wes sideman (talk) 17:09, 2 February 2021 (UTC)
- User talk pages need extreme examples to get protected. We're not there, yet. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 17:12, 2 February 2021 (UTC)
- Understood. What's a little unnerving is that in the edit summary that you subsequently hid (thanks for acting on that) he named a real-life person, and with that particular account name "UnitedRecording" he made a reference to the place that real person works. It's not me, but I googled it and that's how I found this out. There's a real-life guy who may end up being targeted by the guy making these edits, all because of the random name I chose for my wikipedia account. Wes sideman (talk) 17:34, 2 February 2021 (UTC)

- okay, thank you again. If I am pestering you, please let me know. I'm reading through policies quite a bit over the last couple of hours. Admin Report Wes Sideman
You may want to report Wes Sideman again as he is continuing to make Vandalistic remarks on the page https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chad_Johnson_(television_personality). Mr Johnson was found innocent on all counts and Wes Sideman’s behavior as an editor is of extreme immaturity, and not the attitude one would expect of an admin able to edit pages. Darrenplz (talk) 18:21, 3 February 2021 (UTC)
- Darrenplz, Wes Sideman is not an admin. If you have issues with the article, you need to take it to the talk page. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 18:24, 3 February 2021 (UTC)
- isn't this yet another sock related to the whole mess at that article? Wes sideman (talk) 19:14, 3 February 2021 (UTC)

Strange
Hi Jauerback, I was wondering about this block. I really don't see any kind of vandalism in their edits — quite on the contrary, actually. With a proper edit summary I could have made these edits, specially the second one and the third one. Have I missed something somewhere? - DVdm (talk) 22:52, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
- This is what I missed, so never mind. - DVdm (talk) 10:51, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
Links
Hi Jauerback, it looks like links of the type I placed are common and even curated on some page types. E.g. [5], AirNav, FlightAware are all similar to Zipcoder.
Gregizaaks (talk) 06:15, 7 February 2021 (UTC)
- Gregizaaks, no they are not. I'm sure you can find numerous examples of similar links that are on other articles, but those shouldn't be there, either. However, in the example you gave, I didn't see any spam links like your ZipCoder links. Find some other way of contributing to the encyclopedia besides adding links, otherwise your time here will be short. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 17:15, 7 February 2021 (UTC)
Hey, if it's not allowed it's okay. No need to be rude and disrespectful.

News and updates for administrators from the past month (February 2021).
Interface administrator changes
- A request for comment is open that proposes a process for the community to revoke administrative permissions. This follows a 2019 RfC in favor of creating one such a policy.
- A request for comment is in progress to remove F7 (invalid fair-use claim) subcriterion a, which covers immediate deletion of non-free media with invalid fair-use tags.
- A request for comment seeks to grant page movers the
delete-redirect
userright, which allows moving a page over a single-revision redirect, regardless of that redirect's target. The full proposal is at Wikipedia:Page mover/delete-redirect. - A request for comment asks if sysops may
place the General sanctions/Coronavirus disease 2019 editnotice template on pages in scope that do not have page-specific sanctions
? - There is a discussion in progress concerning automatic protection of each day's featured article with Pending Changes protection.
- When blocking an IPv6 address with Twinkle, there is now a checkbox with the option to just block the /64 range. When doing so, you can still leave a block template on the initial, single IP address' talkpage.
- When protecting a page with Twinkle, you can now add a note if doing so was in response to a request at WP:RfPP, and even link to the specific revision.
- There have been a number of reported issues with Pending Changes. Most problems setting protection appear to have been resolved (phab:T273317) but other issues with autoaccepting edits persist (phab:T275322).
- By motion, the discretionary sanctions originally authorized under the GamerGate case are now authorized under a new Gender and sexuality case, with sanctions
authorized for all edits about, and all pages related to, any gender-related dispute or controversy and associated people.
Sanctions issued under GamerGate are now considered Gender and sexuality sanctions. - The Kurds and Kurdistan case was closed, authorizing standard discretionary sanctions for
the topics of Kurds and Kurdistan, broadly construed
.
- By motion, the discretionary sanctions originally authorized under the GamerGate case are now authorized under a new Gender and sexuality case, with sanctions
- Following the 2021 Steward Elections, the following editors have been appointed as stewards: AmandaNP, Operator873, Stanglavine, Teles, and Wiki13.
Once the protection for this article had expired another "new user" reverted it back to what the sockpuppet Fire2456 had done. Would you be interested in protecting the article again? --Kansas Bear (talk) 12:52, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

Vandalism on Steven Tyler
Hi! You blocked 12.208.128.102 today for vandalism on the Steven Tyler article. Apparently the editor has hopped to 2600:1700:4100:8340:d47c:bf5e:d796:99d2 and is continuing to vandalize, and has restored their BLP violations at least 5 times so far under the new IP. - Consensus has been reached to delete all books in the book namespace. There was rough consensus that the deleted books should still be available on request at WP:REFUND even after the namespace is removed.
- An RfC is open to discuss the next steps following a trial which automatically applied pending changes to TFAs.
- IP addresses of unregistered users are to be hidden from everyone. There is a rough draft of how IP addresses may be shown to users who need to see them. This currently details allowing administrators, checkusers, stewards and those with a new usergroup to view the full IP address of unregistered users. Editors with at least 500 edits and an account over a year old will be able to see all but the end of the IP address in the proposal. The ability to see the IP addresses hidden behind the mask would be dependent on agreeing to not share the parts of the IP address they can see with those who do not have access to the same information. Accessing part of or the full IP address of a masked editor would also be logged. Comments on the draft are being welcomed at the talk page.
- The community authorised COVID-19 general sanctions have been superseded by the COVID-19 discretionary sanctions following a motion at a case request. Alerts given and sanctions placed under the community authorised general sanctions are now considered alerts for and sanctions under the new discretionary sanctions.

Hi Jauerback
Hi Jauerback, I’m reaching out for help in getting this page straightened out. There have been constant attacks by one or two conflicted persons with whom I am in litigation with in real life. These people put the “lawsuit” section there in the first place. Their purpose is only to use it to promote their own real life cause, not because their content is really important to my bio. None of what they post on my page (yes, not “my” page but the page about me) is ever neutral or complete, but without fail is biased, misrepresentation, cherry picked or out and out false. I’ve read many of the WP rules applicable to biography of a living person and controversial matters that might be defamatory are extremely disfavored as are edits by COI persons involved with the subject in real life controversy (controversy made and perpetuated by these COIs). Please have a look at the creation and history of edits. Who are the two persons who come to WP only to edit my page and focus mostly on the “lawsuits” section or try by innuendo to undermine the basic story of my round the world flight. I’m happy actually that the page is protected but it’s been reverted to a version that has the heavy hand of these COI and sockpuppet persons. I’m very transparent, disclosing who I am and not hiding behind a pseudonym. I was in the middle of an extensive edit then found I was blocked when I tried to publish it. I’m happy to have guidance from a neutral and experienced WP editor like yourself and if you look over my talk page I have refrained from editing myself and asked for help on many occasions, with only limited success. I’m also not so particularly sensitive to writing on the subject of litigation I’m involved in. Actually, civil lawsuits are fairly boring but I won’t tolerate these few people repeatedly vandalizing my page with half-truths and distortions, that make it seem like My around the world record is being challenged. I think you may get it and help with a viable solution that serves the interests of WPs audience. Thank you, Julie Wang AthenaMT (talk) 23:23, 2 September 2021 (UTC)
- AthenaMT, it looks like you've asked this question to others and have received responses. I would definitely suggest avoiding any edits to the article and only use the talk page to suggest edits. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 16:22, 3 September 2021 (UTC)

- The 2021 RfA review is now open for comments.
Troll
this troll whom you just blocked may also need talk page access removed, as they've tripped an edit filter for "Talk Page Abuse" three times as of writing since being blocked. The filter is private so I don't know exactly what it was blocking, but probably worth keeping an eye on. Taking Out The Trash (talk) 18:32, 23 September 2021 (UTC)
Question regarding Sharon Tate's page
I noticed some info was deleted info from her info box. Partners section. Her page listed 2 partners. If you look at the revisions you can see they were deleted. Jay Sebring has the partners section on his page and considering they used to date. Can this section. Please be added back? To her page? I was gonna undo the edit. But I don't want any kind of trouble. Please do what you can. And sorry if I bothered you. I'm just not sure what to do here. 2601:245:4102:DB80:0:0:0:1D9F (talk) 00:19, 24 September 2021 (UTC)
- I would suggest starting a discussion on the talk page about it. No admin needed to do that. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 00:25, 24 September 2021 (UTC)
Thank you. For your help. I really appreciate it. I will start a discussion about this. As soon as I can. 2601:245:4102:DB80:0:0:0:1D9F (talk) 00:52, 24 September 2021 (UTC)
Why block user:Wagermary?
Blocked indefinitely after two edits, one an improvement, the other a prank. Why? Yappy2bhere (talk) 17:48, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
- There is also their edit filter log with edits that they tried to make. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 17:49, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
- You mean "edit", there's only one, and "used only for vandalism" was simply wrong as already noted. Seriously, you're indeffing new users for edits that never made it to article space, and three days ex post facto at that? I see you indeffed a user with no edit history at all who hit the filter twice 1047226423. Are you guided by a WP policy here? Yappy2bhere (talk) 18:14, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
- Sure is. The blocks are in place to prevent further disruption. See WP:BLOCKPREVENTATIVE. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 18:18, 29 September 2021 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – October 2021
News and updates for administrators from the past month (September 2021).
- Following an RfC, extended confirmed protection may be used preemptively on certain high-risk templates.
- Following a discussion at the Village Pump, there is consensus to treat discord logs the same as IRC logs. This means that discord logs will be oversighted if posted onwiki.
- DiscussionTools has superseded Enterprisey's reply-link script. Editors may switch using the "Discussion tools" checkbox under Preferences → Beta features.
- A motion has standardised the 500/30 (extended confirmed) restrictions placed by the Arbitration Committee. The standardised restriction is now listed in the Arbitration Committee's procedures.
- Following the closure of the Iranian politics case, standard discretionary sanctions are authorized for all edits about, and all pages related to, post-1978 Iranian politics, broadly construed.
- The Arbitration Committee encourages uninvolved administrators to use the discretionary sanctions procedure in topic areas where it is authorised to facilitate consensus in RfCs. This includes, but is not limited to, enforcing sectioned comments, word/diff limits and moratoriums on a particular topic from being brought in an RfC for up to a year.
- Editors have approved expanding the trial of Growth Features from 2% of new accounts to 25%, and the share of newcomers getting mentorship from 2% to 5%. Experienced editors are invited to add themselves to the mentor list.
- The community consultation phase of the 2021 CheckUser and Oversight appointments process is open for editors to provide comments and ask questions to candidates.

Architizer
Hi, I simply want to give Architizer its own page rather than having it as a redirect from Marc Kushner. Archdaily has a wikipedia page so it seems fair for Architizer, a similarly prominent page, to have its own page. I am working on citations and removing all references that might be regarded as promotional. Can you give me time to fully update this page without reverting it? This is meaning my edits are not being recognized. paulkeskeys Paulkeskeys (talk) 13:19, 20 October 2021 (UTC)
- Paulkeskeys, no, you are being disruptive in trying to advertise for your company. Continuing to do so will get you and your friend blocked from editing Wikipedia altogether. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 13:23, 20 October 2021 (UTC)
I'm sorry I'm confused - who is 'my friend'? Also, can someone not create a page that is purely informational like Archdaily's? I simply want to create the page so that it does not redirect to Marc Kushner, since he is no longer associated with the company as CEO so the redirect is out of date. Paulkeskeys (talk) 13:26, 20 October 2021 (UTC)
- Paulkeskeys, you lost any creditibiliy with me by not knowing what I meant by "your friend". Jauerbackdude?/dude. 13:28, 20 October 2021 (UTC)
I'm sorry, I really do not understand! I am trying to follow the guidance (non-promotional, adding citations etc.) - If you would allow me to create a new draft of the page then you can approve it or not. Paulkeskeys (talk) 13:31, 20 October 2021 (UTC)
- Paulkeskeys, so, you're actually claiming that you know nothing about this editor who showed up three minutes after you to make almost the exact same edit that you are trying to make? Bullshit. You also conveniently ignored the messages that I left on your talk page until I locked the page from further editing. I would suggest just leaving the article alone as you have a clear WP:COI as a simple Google search shows. Wikipedia is not a place to promote your company. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 13:36, 20 October 2021 (UTC)
I'm sorry — I had asked my colleague how to add an image on a wiki page since I haven't done this before, and I didn't realize that he tried to go in to the page and add it himself. He just informed me of that. I don't totally understand how talk pages work since I am getting familiar with wikipedia editing so I didn't see a message from you (only these ones). I wasn't aware that I couldn't add a page for a company that I am associated with, but thanks for clarifying. It is true that the redirect is out of date, so I hope you will consider allowing a page that is the equivalent of Archdaily's - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ArchDaily - for Architizer. Paulkeskeys (talk) 13:44, 20 October 2021 (UTC)
- Paulkeskeys, I'll be more than happy to redirect your article somewhere else, but if it's notable enough, someone will create the article itself in due time. There's no deadline to get it created. However, since it looks like Mark created the company, it doesn't seem like a bad redirect. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 13:51, 20 October 2021 (UTC)
- You can try submitting a draft via WP:AFC, but you're going to need to prove that it's indeed notable enough to warrant it's own article with reliable sources that doesn't read like an advertisement for the company. Good luck. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 14:00, 20 October 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for the clarification, I appreciate it. Paulkeskeys (talk) 14:01, 20 October 2021 (UTC)
Wikipedia administrators notice board
The reason I mentioned the reply In his complaint was - 1. I find the “ adding a discussion or report a reply “ a bit difficult to work with. 2. I really wanted it to be answered as soon as possible. 3. The statements I made were not incorrect. I can guarantee that. 4. Wikipedia shouldn’t be used as a website that posts what news channels say. On the contrary it should mention the whole case study with truth. If found unjust by law. Should also mention that unjust work is unjust Reflexa9 (talk) 15:47, 26 October 2021 (UTC)
- Reflexa9, I don't think you understand. Instead of just replying to the comment above yours, you inserted your reply right in the middle of his comment, which made it very confusing on who was saying what. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 15:50, 26 October 2021 (UTC)
Oh. Thank you. Reflexa9 (talk) 15:52, 26 October 2021 (UTC)

Recently blocked editor continuing to vandalize while logged out
Yesterday, you blocked BigMan090 (talk · contribs), presumably for their vandalism of Henderson State University. They have continued to vandalize the article while logged out as 2600:387:f:b13::8 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) and that IP address needs to be blocked, too. Thanks! ArbCom 2021 Elections voter message
Administrators' newsletter – December 2021
News and updates for administrators from the past month (November 2021).
- Unregistered editors using the mobile website are now able to receive notices to indicate they have talk page messages. The notice looks similar to what is already present on desktop, and will be displayed on when viewing any page except mainspace and when editing any page. (T284642)
- The limit on the number of emails a user can send per day has been made global instead of per-wiki to help prevent abuse. (T293866)
- Voting in the 2021 Arbitration Committee Elections is open until 23:59, 06 December 2021 (UTC).
- The already authorized standard discretionary sanctions for all pages relating to the Horn of Africa (defined as including Ethiopia, Somalia, Eritrea, Djibouti, and adjoining areas if involved in related disputes), broadly construed, have been made permanent.
Administrators will no longer be autopatrolled
A recently closed Request for Comment (RFC) reached consensus to remove Autopatrolled from the administrator user group. You may, similarly as with Edit Filter Manager, choose to self-assign this permission to yourself. This will be implemented the week of December 13th, but if you wish to self-assign you may do so now. To find out when the change has gone live or if you have any questions please visit the Administrator's Noticeboard. 20:06, 7 December 2021 (UTC)
Wrong
Lots of film sections have discrepancy sections and not it's not from IMDB, it's from actually watching the film, which is something you should do before taking such careless actions as this rv, and yes there are sources for it but I don't feel like getting into an argument with another petulant, arrogant, selfimportant such as yourself right now. Seven Pandas (talk) 12:36, 27 December 2021 (UTC)
- Seven Pandas, oh, you mean you're doing original research? That's not allowed, either. Nor are personal attacks. Regardless, sourced or not, we don't add useless "trivia" to articles. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 14:01, 27 December 2021 (UTC)
