As a response, I judged the references back at Miss Universe Australia 2021 where it has a limited amount of references, especially news reports, since the pageant is not that big of a deal in Australia. Their references included dates of their state finals, and I included that based from their official instagram account since there is no news at their website. I do hope you will reconsider. Thanks for the reply. Jesteron27 (talk) 01:17, 3 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Miss Universe as of date in the contestants section

edit

Hi, I have noticed that you have been changing the "As of <date>" in Miss Universe 2022 to the latest date. It's been agreed upon before that the date inscribed there should be the latest date that a new contestant has been added (I've done the same thing as you did before but I was corrected). So for this case, as Curacao was the latest to be added on May 28, then the date there should be May 28. And since the next one is Guatemala at May 3, if it does pull through and a girl is crowned, only then the date should be changed. Thank you and I hope you understand! Milesq (talk) 12:02, 3 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

I understand. It's just I haven't heard that agreement, but I guess it's because I was late in joining Wikipedia. Thanks for letting me know. Jesteron27 (talk) 12:10, 3 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Sub-national flags

edit

Please do not re-add sub national flags to articles like Miss Teen USA 2022 without gaining consensus to do so. You are welcome to join the conversation at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Text formatting#Beauty pageants and special formatting? if you wish to change consensus. Editing against consensus is disruptive editing and can result in administrator actions such as a block. ☆ Bri (talk) 04:44, 23 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Then remove every sub flag at every Miss USA and Miss Teen USA, just to be uniform. Go check the Miss USA 2022 article, there are sub flags are there, right? Then I suggest it is not up to a consensus, but up to a uniformed standard. If you wish to remove every sub flag at every Miss USA and Miss Teen USA article, then you may do so.
Click this link. There are from the same organization. So, why no sub flags?
I need a reason why Miss Teen USA 2022 must not have sub flags but Miss USA 2022 can. There's gotta be some reasonable explanation to it. Otherwise, I would have to be uniform on every article, on every Miss USA and Miss Teen USA article that exists.
I suggest looking into previous Miss Teen USA edition articles before thinking that I have no reason to be uniform about it. Jesteron27 (talk) 07:25, 23 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
Reasons why I have placed subnational flags on Miss Teen USA 2022.
1. Miss Teen USA and Miss USA are from the same organization. Miss USA 2022 and other previous editions' articles all have subnational flags on them. Even the Miss Teen USA 2021 article have their subnational flags on them. Why can't Miss Teen USA 2022 have theirs?
2. If for relevance reasons, it is because they are states. Subnational flags are part of a state's identity, especially to a state belonging to the United States. That is why it is there for a reason, for a logical reason, for a reason doused with some common sense on it. Does it violate something? I'd love to hear and discuss that with you further. If nothing goes against it, I suggest returning them back where they belong.
3. If you wish to continue to act like this, I suggest removing every flag to every article there is, that is up until their first editions of the pageants. I just want things to be fair and uniform. And if other viewers might ask, "why are there subnational flags here and not there", what would you have said?
4. There must a reasonable explanation why only one edition (and it is the current one) that has no subnational flags, I mean, I bet the "consensus" has one. I'd love to hear and discuss that with you further. Jesteron27 (talk) 07:34, 23 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
Actually, I have been fairly busy lately removing the flag icons and whatnot where I find them. Again, if you have arguments like those you listed above, and you want to change consensus, you have to discuss it where it will have the effect of gaining consensus, i.e. not on your talkpage but at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Text formatting. ☆ Bri (talk) 21:48, 23 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Name of Mina Sue Choi

edit

Good day/night. The rules in naming is that wherever country you are born, you follow their naming customs. Regardless of your blood line, your birth certificate follows the country's rule where you were born. For example, if you are American by blood but was born in the Philippines, then you'll acquire Filipino naming customs. If you are South African by blood but was born in Spain, you'll acquire Spanish naming. The same with Mina Sue Choi who is Korean by blood but was born in Australia.   Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. Thanks! Drmies (talk) 14:28, 29 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I apologize for not using edit summaries in my previous edits. I was used to editing blank spaces or incomplete tables without any summaries, and I wasn't aware that it is a requirement to put a summary for each edit.

I understand that using edit summaries is an important aspect of contributing to Wikipedia, as it helps other editors to understand the changes made and to verify the accuracy of the content. I appreciate the reminder and will make sure to include a summary in all of my future edits, even for minor changes.

Thank you for providing the suggestion to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in my preferences, which will help me to remember to include a summary for each edit.

As you won't be considering their national pageant's instagram account's announcement on their appointment, why block me from editing? Why do we even have "citation needed" when you kept wanting that they must have references. It's literally there for a purpose (it's for us to take note that though this is confirmed, we still have to find resources for it). What if their national pageant is poorly disseminated on their national news articles? You can check their instagram all you want, I only keep putting them there because they have been appointed.
What if their national pageant is poorly disseminated on their news articles? Check their social media, specifically Instagram. I know that it's important to not rely solely on pageant bloggers for information, but kindly also check their Instagram accounts. Argentina is very much confirmed, as it is already indicated on his bio (and it is also posted) as well. Therefore, it's essential to avoid relying solely on search engines and broaden your sources of information. If you have instagram, use it. Jesteron27 (talk) 00:53, 16 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
I literally indicate "CITATION NEEDED" there as it is confirmed by their national organizations, though not much of it is propagated on their national news agencies. Jesteron27 (talk) 03:04, 16 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Sub-national flags (2023)

edit

If you look back one year on your talkpage, I requested that you not add miscellaneous sub-national flags to articles, and explained that it against consensus. Yet you just did it again. Do you realize that this is disruptive editing and can have consequences for you? ☆ Bri (talk) 05:58, 14 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Yes, we have talked to that on consensus, but as far as most people can recall, the consensus saw its relevance, and therefore, these subflags were reverted back. Now, the consensus that you are clamoring about does not exist anymore. So, in that case, what consensus does it need? Subnational flags are relevant in pageant articles on Wikipedia because they often represent specific regions or territories within a country. Including these flags helps provide context and visual representation of the subnational entities participating in the pageant or being mentioned in the article. So, these are not "miscellaneous" as you claim to be.
Do you think that is enough grounds for disruptive editing?
As far as I'm concerned, I'm fixing it as it was always been. And you didn't care about how it had always been, don't you?
By that context, you should be the one facing the consequences, as you surprise everyone with these rules, but you take these rules out of context, especially on pageant articles. I can recall two specific general instances, especially done by you:
1. MOS:OVERLINKING on the "Contestants" sections of International Pageant Articles. While it is important to avoid excessive linking, pageant articles often benefit from providing links to relevant countries, such as the ones in the "Contestants" section. Pageant articles such as this involve contestants representing different countries or regions. Linking the names of these countries can provide valuable context for the readers who may not be familiar with them or their locations. By linking the countries, readers can easily access additional information if desired.
We had this discussion on multiple occassions, and it was agreed upon that only the topmost description shall not link countries if it is mentioned. Otherwise, why do this again? Have we gotten over this issue?
2. MOS:FLAGRELEVANCE on the pageant articles, and that includes subnational flags. It states that: "Subnational flags (regions, cities, etc.) should generally be used only when directly relevant to the article". Including subnational flags helps showcase the diversity and regional identities of the contestants. These flags symbolize the geographical locations where the pageants take place, adding a sense of local pride and heritage to the events. The presence of subnational flags fosters a deeper understanding of the contestants' backgrounds and the cultural significance of the pageant in their respective regions."
We had this discussion on multiple occassions, and it was agreed to be done on some national pageants i.e. Miss Universe Philippines. Otherwise, why do this again? Have we gotten over this issue?
If there's an actual link to an actual consensus discussing these issues, please do provide the links.
I'll be waiting for your response. Jesteron27 (talk) 08:49, 14 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
@SMcCandlish: you weighed in on this at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Icons/Archive 17. What do you think, was consensus reached not to use sub-national flags on pageants? Jesteron27: I'd appreciate it if you'd tone down the derrogatory language like "clamoring". We are having a discussion here, as we should. ☆ Bri (talk) 21:22, 15 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
The question, since MOS:FLAGCRUFT indicates by default that we do not use flags this way, is really whether the discussion reached a consensus to create an exception for pageants, and it clearly did not. I.e., the purpose of the discussion was to override existing long-term guidelines, and has a high hurdle to jump consequently. I'll repeat what I said in that discussion: if we don't even use national flags for such a subject, we obviously would not use sub-national ones; and the reason we permit flag use at all in international sports is that sports broadcasters routinely abbreviate displayed nationality to a flag symbol, which is not the case with pageants. So, yes, I think consensus is against what Jesteron27 wants to do. If this editor disagrees, they can open a formal RfC about it and establish the consensus more explicitly. PS: An appropriate venue for that would probably be WP:VPPOL, though I think the editorial pool there is getting a little tired of "style fights", so caveat emptor.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  22:42, 15 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
How is it not a case in pageants: akin to sports, flags are commonly used as symbols for administrative divisions. Though I understand that it is because of nationality/cultural recognition, these flags have been symbols of these states as well, with the whole history and foundation as to how it became and transformed into what it is today. Besides, these subnational flags have been a staple in pageant articles such as Miss USA and Miss Teen USA, wherein this wasn't even contradicted until now. This is all where it gets confusing — it's getting contradicted now whereas back then, nobody bats an eye about it. I just wonder. Jesteron27 (talk) 07:04, 16 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Introduction to contentious topics

edit

You have recently edited a page related to articles about living or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles, a topic designated as contentious. This standard message is designed as an introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially-designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Request reason:

Please copy my appeal to the arbitration enforcement noticeboard or administrators' noticeboard. I just got back from editing yesterday and had to fix some grammatical errors, and update some things and right now, I am quite surprised as you all are.Jesteron27 (talk) 01:06, 6 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

There is nothing about this appeal that is worth copying to another board. This arbitration decision is for adding unsourced BLP content, you need to discuss that in any request and describe what will be different going forward. If you make a more substantive request, it may be copied to the AE board. 331dot (talk) 07:58, 6 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

My IP Address had been blocked, and I'd like to address the following people for putting unconfirmed information on the Miss Universe Philippines 2024 article such as the confirmed candidates, the number of candidates, the venue and date of the coronation, as there are no actual announcements on the side of the national organization or their accredited partners regarding those information. The users include Ricoteo16, and an anonymous user with the IP address 112.211.188.81. They were relying on speculation or rumors circulating at the pageant community (could be true they said, but not confirmed yet). Just want to actually edit, and avoid conflicts anymore. I apologize for my previous year's behavior as a stubborn and headstrong editor. I will remand to the needs of editing, and I implore you to look at this article. I hope this all gets to you. Thanks for your understanding.

Decline reason:

Your history of block evasion makes unblocking you a bad idea. Once you prove that you can be trusted, maybe we'll unblock you. One potential way to do that is the standard offer. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 17:08, 4 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

It's not just your IP that is blocked, your account is blocked directly. The autoblock on the IP will be removed when this block is removed, so forget about your IP address and focus on your account. Attempting to edit via IP would be block evasion. You spend most of this request talking about others- you were blocked for your actions and need to address those in any request for community discussion. 331dot (talk) 09:22, 4 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
