Hi AberBeta, the IP address above was blocked in October. I can't speak for the admins who reviewed this case in December, but I'm guessing when this was finally reported, it was already too late to block the IP address, because at that point, someone else may have taken control of the IP address. Remember that we block IP addresses to prevent vandalism, not to punish the vandal. Since it was already too late by the time we got to review the IP address, there is already no point to blocking the IP address. --Deathphoenix ʕ 14:46, 4 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Quite, though its still as offensive to people's eyes. I'm unsure what the rules are for changing case on titles for external media -- [Beta] 16:49, 29 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Haiku.png)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Haiku.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 01:15, 21 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

No, are you? If you hadn’t noticed, I am cleaning up the OOXML spec, that is all. Please go troll elsewhere. -- johndrinkwater 14:44, 20 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Fixed already; next pointless jab at my “NPOV”? If you want to help improve these articles, why haven’t you done so already? Being an anchor with regards to improving wikipedia is shameful -- johndrinkwater 15:07, 20 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Very touchy. It was your first edit on the first line of the article so I had not seen you were cleaning up the article. I am actually fairly happy with your edits even of parts I personally added line the OMML and DrawingML parts of the article except possibly for removing the wikilink to the OPC packaging. Feel free to cleanup that ugly standardization section ? hAl 16:08, 20 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
I know you have a very heavy handed approach with OOXML edits; and a very arse-kissy attitude to Microsoft. It is not my first edit to OOXML; and wont be my last. Any touchy comments from me are due because of the problems Wikipedia has due to bias from certain parties ;) -- johndrinkwater 18:50, 20 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
next time hAl, why dont you get off your shilling arse and also work to improve wikipedia As you might have noticed I actually was the last to edit the article before you did and if I did edits like you have been doing then they would have been reverted in no time. hAl 21:59, 20 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
And they still have a chance to be reverted; and my future edits might too; we shall see. I still maintain the opinion that my edit summary is correct. -- johndrinkwater 23:48, 20 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Moody's law

edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Moody's law, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Moody's law. — Insanity Incarnate 17:59, 3 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Wikifying dates

edit

There's been a change in policy on this score. We no longer wikilink all dates. See Wikipedia:Manual of Style (links)#Dates. That's why there are so many unlinked dates in Sarah Palin. I'm sorry to tell you this after you've put in so much effort trying to improve the article, but those changes are no longer considered improvements. JamesMLane t c 09:12, 2 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

I’m not doing all dates, just (1 September/September 1) enough to localise dates to the users’ preference. If there is another method to provide that ability, please inform me. -- johndrinkwater (talk) 10:22, 2 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion of Ashley Schneider

edit

A tag has been placed on Ashley Schneider requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.) or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. ISS Configuration 2009-03

edit

Hi there John, thanks for the swift update with regards to S6 installation - I guess you're watching the NASA TV feed? :-) I'd just like to point out a few changes to the final planned ISS configuration that haven;t made it into the diagram though, if I may; DC-1 has been renamed Mini-Research Module 1 and a second Mini-Research Module 2 has been added to the manifest on the Russian segment (you can see the planned config on the image in the Russian Orbital Segment article), and the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer has finally been added to the manifest, to be mounted on the Zenith of the S1 truss segment. I was wondering if the diagram could be updated to represent these? Many thanks, Colds7ream (talk) 18:44, 19 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

thanks, i’ll see to it when I have time -- johndrinkwater (talk) 19:23, 19 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
From reading Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer, it has it mounted on the zenith port of S3, so i’ll do that now -- johndrinkwater (talk) 19:55, 20 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Just to say that MRM-1 and MRM-2 haven't been launched yet; MRM-2 is pending shuttle launch & MRM-1 pending Soyuz launch. :-) Colds7ream (talk) 19:15, 21 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
I knew I would forget something, it’s updated! -- johndrinkwater (talk) 19:47, 21 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
I think Colds7ream was wrong. Assembly_of_the_International_Space_Station and http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/station/structure/iss_manifest.html both say that MRM-2 is pending Soyuz launch and MRM-1 is pending Shuttle launch. So the image is still off. Ergzay (talk) 21:31, 23 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Mix-ups happen, it’s ok :) I’ll swap them tomorrow, as well as double check if anything else is missing, thanks -- johndrinkwater (talk) 22:05, 23 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Also see you have updated the diagram with the S6 truss installation. There has been a long time mistake though. The "SM MMOD Shields" have been pointing to the solar arrays of the Zvezda Service Module instead of the shields that are directly forward them. In the original diagram they were more pointing towards them but the lines weren't quite long enough, but in your diagram you have made them even shorter as I think you have mistaken what they are pointing to. Ergzay (talk) 16:59, 20 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Oh yes! my mistake, thanks for telling me. I spent some time today adjusting it for the previous comments, i’ve made your change too, and i’ll upload the new version once I have added the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer -- johndrinkwater (talk) 19:17, 20 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • Hi again! Just a quick message to update you again - firstly it turns out that Node 3 is called Tranquility not Serenity, which no-one was expecting, and also has been moved from Node 1 Nadir to Node 1 Port, for some reason. Colds7ream (talk) 10:02, 15 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

January 2011

edit

Welcome, and thank you for your attempt to lighten up Wikipedia. However, this is an encyclopedia and the articles are intended to be serious, so please don't make joke edits, as you did to WebM. Readers looking for accurate information will not find them amusing. If you'd like to experiment with editing, try the sandbox, where you can write practically anything you want. —J. M. (talk) 17:49, 13 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

All my alterations to that article were factual & have already been reverted (as I assumed they would) so how does this message help? -- johndrinkwater (talk) 18:30, 13 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
Your alterations were reverted by user KiloByte as vandalism. The standard and preferred procedure on Wikipedia after reverting vandalism is warning the user, using one of the standard Wikipedia warnings. The point of the warning is making the user aware that vandalism or joke edits are not welcome on Wikipedia and should be avoided next time.
The primary problem with your edit was not the factual content. There were three main problems with it:
  1. The tone was unencyclopedic. Your edit summary even suggested they were intended to be humorous. As my standard Wikipedia warning already explained, attempts to lighten up Wikipedia articles by adding humorous edits or jokes has no place here (except for a couple of essays which are intended to be humorous). This is explained in the Wikipedia policies and guidelines.
  2. You said you assumed your edit would be reverted. Which means you knew it was inappropriate. Yet, you made it. Which means good faith (unintentional mistake) could not be assumed. Vandalism means making bad edits intentionally.
  3. Yes, your edit was reverted. But the problem with vandalism is that not all bad edits are reverted, or at least not quickly enough. They may pass unnoticed, overlooked for months or even years. People who read the article may then get the impression that Wikipedia is not a serious project. Furthermore, even when bad edits are reverted, it takes time and effort to do so. This diverts time and energy away from more productive work. For example, the majority of my work on Wikipedia in the last couple of years is dealing with vandalism, I don't have time for doing much more here.
So please, don't do it again. Thanks.—J. M. (talk) 19:26, 13 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

edit

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 19:00, 14 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
