You can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. It is a good idea to read the most recent entries at the bottom of the Talk page of an existing article before making major changes to it, to see if your proposed change has been discussed before. Before I make a major change to an article, I often make a proposal on the Talk page to see if anyone minds.

Again, welcome! -- Ssilvers (talk) 22:17, 25 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

CataVillamarin111's Peer Review

edit

Ok... So I still don't get what happened there on your peer review page but THIS is how it's supposed to look like. Sorry!

Wow, Kim… from two sentences to an article. Great job! I love to see how it’s taking shape.

  • LEAD SECTION AND DUTIES SECTION:
I like the explanation about the word’s origin and current meaning. Although I would move its current meaning to the beginning, where you talk about the word’s origin. That way it will probably feel more connected, following a bit on Ashley’s feedback. Question: Shouldn’t there be a sentence or two about duties on the lead section? I know you talk about it in the next section, but I feel that you haven’t actually read about what choragi do until you get here.

In the sentence “Such victories…” the word choregos is not italicized. This is just a reminder for consistency purposes 

  • OTHER COMMENTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

I really like how you write and structure your ideas. However, for clarity purposes I would recommend shorted sentences, because at times you tend to include ideas within ideas making the point difficult to follow. I would love to read more information on the process by which choregoi are elected. Really Interesting. — Preceding unsigned comment added by CataVillamarin111 (talkcontribs) 22:25, 17 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Athens

edit

You wrote: ...all of my research has referred to the choregos in an Athenian context. I will keep searching, but it seems that it was a Athenian construct, developed in association with their festival structure. However, none of my sources specifically identified the position as strictly Athenian. Based on this, how would you suggest I proceed?

That's a tough question. I think you have to keep looking at sources to try to figure out if it is just Athenian, and if so, say so in the article. See if your professor has any ideas about that, as she probably knows a billion times as much about classical Greece than I do. -- Ssilvers (talk) 06:33, 21 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

You also wrote: I wanted to seek your advice about the large issue of changing the name of the article, as Tim riley suggested. I did not come across his spelling in any of my research - nearly all of my sources use the spelling of the current article title. In [fact], I often came across the modernized Greek form of the work khoregia. However, I definitely see his point. Would you recommend that I reach out to him to seek his partnership in beginning the process of changing the article name?

Yes, definitely. And set forth for him how each of your sources spells it. Tim is a wonderful contributor to this encyclopedia and will be happy to discuss anything reasonably. In any case, when/if the time comes to change the name, let Tim handle it, as renames/moves are tricky - you have to get the software to do it automatically so that all the information gets copied over on the talk page, etc. -- Ssilvers (talk) 06:33, 21 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
