An Inquiry
Good afternoon Miss Katie, I have some questions to ask you, if you don't mind Alexis Ivanov (talk) 21:10, 3 November 2016 (UTC)
- Can I acquire a reply to know that you have read my statement that I have put forth. Alexis Ivanov (talk) 03:13, 5 November 2016 (UTC)
- People ask me questions all the time without gaining permission first. :-) Ask away. Katietalk 11:25, 5 November 2016 (UTC)
- I just had an issue the way you treated me when you blocked me without any warning like a common vandal, and the way you just take QED's demand at face value and that you didn't block him for personal attacks toward me, the same way you blocked me. Alexis Ivanov (talk) 04:56, 6 November 2016 (UTC)
- The most cogent explanation I can give is here. I have nothing to add to that. Katietalk 19:12, 6 November 2016 (UTC)
- I believe you misrepresented my edits you say and I quote "On Monday, though, Alexis Ivanov did. He kept on going," when in fact I left the discussion based on the advice of user Douts, I only came back to reply to QED who was willing to revive the discussion after much time. And then afterwards you go in and snoop in my block history just to further your own agenda. I forgot to mention that why did you chose to give me such a lengthy time out of Wikipedia instead of a 24 hour block, you also never gave me any warning, just blocked me for 30 days, 30 DAYS that I could have done something, you just don't know how angry you made me, while QED goes on there enjoying his time receiving no punishment. That for me is injustice. There is always something to add, no need to disrespect me Alexis Ivanov (talk) 06:19, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

- 1,2,3, These are the three comments I replied to. I never instigated anything in this matter. QED has been blocked twice before, so don't paint me as a criminal or a common vandal as you have done before. Alexis Ivanov (talk) 06:24, 7 November 2016 (UTC)
- @KrakatoaKatie: I hope you are not ignoring, since I'm still waiting for answers and want justice to be served. Alexis Ivanov (talk) 02:59, 8 November 2016 (UTC)
I told you I have nothing more to say about it. Katietalk 03:36, 8 November 2016 (UTC)
- @KrakatoaKatie: You have some explanation to do Miss Katie, and I demand it. You can't block people and never give explanation. I also demand an in-depth explanation. Alexis Ivanov (talk) 12:40, 8 November 2016 (UTC)
- @KrakatoaKatie: I'm still sitting here waiting for answers. Don't make me go out and request for administrator attention. I urge you to comply and explain yourself. Alexis Ivanov (talk) 17:35, 8 November 2016 (UTC)
I've explained myself already. If you want to go to AN, go right ahead. Don't threaten me again. Katietalk 18:42, 8 November 2016 (UTC)
- @KrakatoaKatie: This is no threat so don't act as the victim please, if you don't answer me I have to take action and go to another route to make you answer me, you blocked me for vague reasons, vague amount of time, disrespected me by not giving any warning and giving falsifying statement, using my block log as a criminal record to block, and sided with the other person and giving them no punishment, so what did you expect when you wronged me, kiss your feet and thank you???? I would like to hear your answers and explain yourself, you chose to block me without talking to me. I'm still angry at your unfair treatment towards, and I haven't threaten you or disrespected you, so please answer me. Alexis Ivanov (talk) 20:00, 8 November 2016 (UTC)
Okay, since you can't seem to get the message by me being polite, I'll be blunt. Stop it. Either go edit an article and contribute to the encyclopedia, or take your complaint to AN. I've told you at least three times now that my reply to LouisAragon was all I have to say on this subject, and I mean it. The block is expired and to my knowledge you didn't appeal it while it was in place, so there's nothing more to do. I think you have constructive contributions to make, but unless you can drop the stick your experience is going to be sub-optimal. I am no one's victim, and I won't tolerate harassment from you or anyone else, and that's what this is becoming. Don't post here again about this. Katietalk 21:54, 8 November 2016 (UTC)
- @KrakatoaKatie: I never appealed the block because you never answered my question I gave you after you blocked me, so I had no faith that you would uphold any form of standard or decency and sided with QED in the matter, so I felt instead of digging myself a hole it would serve me better to be blocked for that duration, there were no other alternatives, you would probably ignore me just as you are trying to it now. There was no indication you were interested in communicating with me. You should be blunt and crystal clear, I never said don't be. I already contributed what I can in the mean I am focusing my energy to get the answers I have been waiting for 30 days. If there is something in your mind that makes you curious it is harder to focus in certain Wikipedia article contribution. I would rather finish this and get my answers before doing any serious edits. You didn't say enough, on top of that you misrepresented me, there is so many questions I raised that you didn't answer, so you don't have to dodge and give me misinformation. There is SOMETHING more to do, in fact there is plenty to do.. drop the stick deals with a debate, I'm not debating here, there is no win or lose, I'm looking for my answers, you can't silence me with that. You are acting like a victim, because if I demand a question from you, you say it is a harassment. Tell me what other route exist that I can satisfy myself to ACQUIRE my answers and I will gladly take it. So please stop playing games, you have wronged me, and you just stand by siding with QED, which I think is a disservice to you as an admin with power. Alexis Ivanov (talk) 03:07, 9 November 2016 (UTC)
- And off to ANI we go. Katietalk 10:46, 9 November 2016 (UTC)
- Hopefully I can get my questions answered, anything to put this subject behind my back Alexis Ivanov (talk) 14:31, 9 November 2016 (UTC)
- @KrakatoaKatie: What is the point of the ANI if you are not going to participate and I'm wasting time talking to other people that are white knighting you. Alexis Ivanov (talk) 18:23, 9 November 2016 (UTC)
- Hopefully I can get my questions answered, anything to put this subject behind my back Alexis Ivanov (talk) 14:31, 9 November 2016 (UTC)
- First, some of us have to sleep. Second, the point is to get my actions reviewed and to get you the answer you seek, since you're not listening to it from me. I've been very patient, but I won't respond to you here again. Katietalk 18:36, 9 November 2016 (UTC)
- @KrakatoaKatie: Sleep is good, your actions were not reviewed, and the answers I seek can only come from you unless you are saying you let them use your account. I did listen to you, so you don't have to bring such misinformation. The problem is you didn't answer anything from me, you gave weak answers and only answered someone outside of the discussion. Of course you will not respond, you can do whatever you want. Alexis Ivanov (talk) 18:40, 9 November 2016 (UTC)
RickinBaltimore request for adminship
Hi, I wanted to leave a comment in support of RickinBaltimore's request for adminship, but I see the page is protected, I think he would make a great administrator because he is very good at identifying socks and IP hopping vandals. 107.77.235.24 (talk) 19:40, 6 November 2016 (UTC)

Canvassing?
Hello Katie! Long time no talk. We've interacted many times in the past and you have been super helpful to me on many ocassions. I saw that you recently commented on a couple of WP:ANI cases. I'm curious, if I asked you to look at one that I am involved in, would the be considered WP:CANVASING? I want an honest opinion. I'm NOT just looking for someone to back me up. I trust your judgement and you have, as I said, been helpful to me in the past. This has included correcting me/reprimanding me when I am wrong. If, AND ONLY IF, you see it appropriate, I would appreciate your comments on the matter. Hoping you are well! --Zackmann08 (Talk to me/What I been doing) 03:33, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
- @Zackmann08: Nice to see you! Hope you're well too, and no, it's not canvassing. When no administrator comments at ANI, we're not ignoring it. It means we've looked, but we don't see anything to act upon. It's on the OP to provide diffs and he hasn't done that. Sometimes new editors are sensitive and take stuff personally, but unless he provides diffs of real harassment, I don't think it's going to go anywhere. Just be civil and polite and let it run its course. That's really all you can do. :-) Katietalk 03:50, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
- Many thanks for the feedback! It is greatly appreciated. :-) --Zackmann08 (Talk to me/What I been doing) 04:21, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
- Katie, I had to bug you about this again but it is really disheartening to see this thread continuing about me with no admin's commenting. There is 1 user who has accused me of multiple things without any evidence to support it and then a second user who has come along and piled on with long rambling rants. I would greatly appreciate a comment from an admin. Even if that comment is to support the accusations and admonish me. I would just like it to come to some sort of closure. If I am in the wrong I will accept that! --Zackmann08 (Talk to me/What I been doing) 17:56, 1 November 2016 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) As I appeared to have been pinged on that ANI thread for an AfD I closed (which one) ... I would ignore the thread and let it die a death, if your preferred outcome is for no action to be taken. Any user is welcome to comment on any ANI thread. However, if you (as a non-admin) spend more time on ANI than elsewhere and comment on the majority of cases, you'll get a reputation as an admin wannabe and the nasty things about reputations is they tend to stick. If you are dragged to ANI yourself (and I never had until after I got the bit, whereupon pretty much the first user I blocked yanked me there), the best thing you can possibly do is to IGNORE IT unless it is extremely likely you will face sanctions for not responding. ANI we discussed yesterday
Hi Katie, not sure if you saw that I'd sent the issue to AfD. Regardless of the outcome, it's helpful to have a consolidated discussion on record for when future issues arise. Cheers, OhNoitsJamie Talk 13:38, 2 November 2016 (UTC)
Camairaen
Hi Katie, It appears that you confirmed that the users at this sockpuppet investigation are sockpuppets. I'm wondering what the next steps are.... Are sockpuppets blocked from editing?

Thank you.BringthePaine (talk) 16:31, 2 November 2016 (UTC)
- @BringthePaine: The SPI clerks and patrolling admins will look at the behavioral evidence for the remaining account. The other three have been blocked. Once they decide if OhioTruths is behaviorally linked, they'll either ask me to block that account or they won't, and they'll tag the blocked accounts accordingly. - @Montanabw: Thanks! One of the greatest things about this century is that I get to have discussions about my beloved Braves on Twitter with Mike Mills. Can't wait for the 25th anniversary reissue of Out of Time in a couple of weeks. Early Christmas present for me! :-) Katietalk 13:29, 4 November 2016 (UTC)

Request for unprotection of Sardinians
The two IPs which were inexplicably reverting my edits, and removing cited material, have been found to be sockpuppets, and may possibly have a connection to User:Xoil as well. They are not partaking in any way a discussion about the issue, and they were simply just vandalizing material by removing cited sources to push a POV. I am request for the page to be unprotected or reduced to semi-protection of some sort to permit limited editing by registered users. Thank you. ItaloCelt84 (talk) 18:49, 4 November 2016 (UTC)
- @ItaloCelt84: No, they haven't "been found to be sockpuppets". That's not what that SPI page says, and that wasn't vandalism. You're both edit warring, and you're both editing while locked out. One more diatribe about this and I'll block both you. When it's worked out, any admin can unprotect the page, and I strongly encourage you to start discussing and stop complaining. Katietalk 20:53, 4 November 2016 (UTC)

Meatydog/Trylie edits...
Trylie created their very own Category - "Category:Trylie's Flag Templates" which is full of their "More..." flag templates, including Template:More colored flags... I'm fine going through and tagging them for discussion or speedy delete but wasn't sure which avenue would be more appropriate from a WP-policy/guideline point of view. Another DKRJ sock
Just a heads-up: Samwright (talk · contribs) looks like a duck of the genus Daniel Kobe Ricks Jr, given that two of the deleted articles have been recreated by that brand-new account. I wasn't sure whether to add this to the SPI and ping you there, but since the investigation is closed I posted here instead - let me know if you prefer to keep it to the SPI page. Cheers, --bonadea contributions talk 18:33, 11 November 2016 (UTC)
- @Bonadea: Thank you so much. I'll take care of blocking and deleting. You can open a new SPI under the same name - that's how we get those big archives, after all. In fact, it would be a good thing to do that so we can take another deep dive. I blocked another two dozen socks last night after the SPI was closed. It's endless. Any article about a Liberian or Ghanian politician or Ghanian football player is suspect. Thanks again. :-) Katietalk 19:28, 11 November 2016 (UTC)

Hi KrakatoaKatie,
could you please restore the article Eugene Fallah Kparkar? I would like to be able to read its text, in order to create its equivalent on French Wikipedia. NAH 17:15, 11 November 2016 (UTC).
- @Nomen ad hoc: I've restored it and moved it to User:Nomen ad hoc/Eugene Fallah Kparkar. Once you're finished, please let me know so I can delete it, as it was created and edited by a massive sock farm. It cannot be moved back into article space. Katietalk 19:25, 11 November 2016 (UTC)

Nonexistent sockpuppet
Hi, Katie. When you closed Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Yevoc4 you tagged the user pages of the accounts as sockpuppets. You also tagged User:Adamspy1, which is actually an account that doesn't exist. I assume this was a mistake, so I have deleted the page. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 17:18, 12 November 2016 (UTC)
- @JamesBWatson: Yeah, I ran the SPI blocking script with a typo - should have been Adamspy2 - then didn't think to delete the page of the nonexistent user. Thanks for the save. :-) Katietalk 18:45, 12 November 2016 (UTC)

hi this is my first talk in wiki.So I want to know how can message ....help me
Ereck Flowers and threats to my editing abilities
I came across the subject of Flowers' profile on Twitter. He is not ultra-famous, but for people who follow American Football, he is best known for being a draft bust and committing an exceedingly large amount of holding penalties. Furthermore, you threatening to have my editing abilities removed is improper and in poor form. I have sources. How many are required, in your opinion? [1]
Do you want a list of articles where he shoved a reported for asking him about his penalties and poor play? [2]
Would you prefer the edit to say something to the effect of "Flowers is widely considered a bust." Billywhack (talk) 22:48, 4 December 2016 (UTC)
- @Billywhack: No, I want you to stop synthesizing multiple sources and reaching your own conclusion. It's a BLP violation and you've been warned. Katietalk 22:51, 4 December 2016 (UTC)
- Ah, so it's about power and maintaining it over your little fiefdom and not getting accurate information. Got it. Billywhack (talk) 22:55, 4 December 2016 (UTC)
Razzle dazzle
Where in the world do you get all your energy and enthusiasm from? Sometimes I get tired just watching you. You've practically single-handedly reduced the number of cases at SPI to almost nothing. The pickings have gotten so slim I've been "forced" to clerk, which is ironic because when we had a major backlog, I felt I had to clerk to help reduce the backlog. I guess it happens at both ends.
Anyway, kudos!--Bbb23 (talk) 19:40, 12 November 2016 (UTC)
- @Bbb23: Making up for the desolate years to come when I'll wander in the wilderness, lost and alone... :-) Nah, I just see it and I do it. I'm one of those who jumps in and tries, and if I screw it up it's a learning experience. If it makes you feel better, I did have a humongous headache after blocking those two dozen socks of Daniel Kobe Ricks Jr the other night. And as my daughter's wedding approaches I'll become more and more invisible. Oh - MusikAnimal and I agree that you should get on IRC. So get on that, would ya? kthxbai Katietalk 00:05, 13 November 2016 (UTC)
- Yes Bbb23, think about all the productive time you spend on wiki that you could be wasting on IRC... it's liberating! And I think you'll really enjoy our silly shenanigans in the admin channel :) — MusikAnimal talk 00:14, 13 November 2016 (UTC)
- You should know me well enough, MusikAnimal, that I can be absolutely lame when it comes to things like IRC. But I actually did try it once eons ago. After I got past all the dreadful cloaking stuff and was able to log in, I didn't even enjoy it much. There were all those silly commands I had to learn (and remember!). And then it seemed like I was at a bar (I hate bars) chitchatting about nothing at all and being the only one there who didn't drink. The only thing I liked about it was the other admins were very pleasant and didn't make me feel embarrassed when I asked for help. Do they have a CU channel? I wasn't a CU when I did it last. I'm pretty sure they have an SPI channel. They probably even have a beer channel for Drmies (I feel like I'm at a seance).
- Sorry about your headache, Katie (doesn't make me a feel a bit better, btw). You mean you aren't taking a computer to the wedding? You can tell everyone you're checking the uh guest list.--Bbb23 (talk) 02:23, 13 November 2016 (UTC)
- [Listening in] - it's nice to see something pleasant & fun around here. I give this banter an A+. Thx every1. Shearonink (talk) 02:41, 13 November 2016 (UTC)
- Yep, there's a CU channel. Not too busy but MA and I might decide to change that. Once the channel operators clear me for the admin channel (been waiting for almost a week now) that place is really going to be a party. Then I won't be at SPI as much and Bbb23 can feel needed again. Plus I'm about to start furiously knitting for Christmas so I'll be in and out. So much yarn and so little time. Guess what – I knit socks. :-D Katietalk 03:22, 13 November 2016 (UTC)

Hello,
Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. Nice to meet you. What made you become an RN and work in that field? I wondered how you have time to work on wikipedia abd what drives you to write. I want to get advise on how to become what you are in eiki. I have always liked research and telling the truth. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.18.148.38 (talk) 04:03, 13 November 2016 (UTC)
Hi Katie. I noticed that you had gained access to en-admins
around the same time I did. Are you able to join the channel successfully? I still get a "This channel is invite-only" message... Am I missing a step? Thanks in advance! Rehman 12:21, 14 November 2016 (UTC)
- @Rehman: Yep, I'm in. It gave me the invite-only message at first but then it went through its thing, I guess, and I'm successfully joined. What client are you using? Katietalk 12:46, 14 November 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for the quick reply! I've been ChatZilla since the dinosaurs. But I haven't really tried anything else... Do you suggest anything better? Rehman 12:50, 14 November 2016 (UTC)
- Just messaged Slakr - he says you don't have a cloak (and why don't you?) so you need to /msg ChanServ invite #wikipedia-en-admins and he'll handle it. I'm on a Mac and I use Textual. I tried ChatZilla and just didn't care for it. I'm fussy that way. ;-) Katietalk 12:59, 14 November 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks, Katie. I wasn't aware of cloaks all this while (!!) I have just requested for one, lets see how it goes... Thanks for your help :-) Rehman 13:35, 14 November 2016 (UTC)

Just a heads up
...it could be nothing, but considering the recent ANI thread, might be worth having a quick look at this: [1] Mike1901 (talk) 11:27, 15 November 2016 (UTC)
- @Mike1901: Thanks very much. Would you raise that in the appropriate place, please? I walk a fine line between concern and whining, and whining is definitely not allowed. ;-) Katietalk 12:48, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

A new user right for New Page Patrollers
Hi KrakatoaKatie.
A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.
It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.
If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:47, 15 November 2016 (UTC)
Unblock req from other users
I was pinged by coalnation which when you declined the request you unintentional pinged me, is there a way i can have me not be pinged via unblock request and/or blocked users? --Ⓩⓟⓟⓘⓧ Talk 21:39, 15 November 2016 (UTC)
- @Zppix: Sadly, no, unless the blocked user doesn't use the {{ping}} function in his requests. I didn't even think to remove the pings in that unblock answer, so this one is partly my fault - sorry about that. :-/ If CPN pings you again, let me know and I'll remove his talk page access. He has no business editing here for at least six months. Katietalk 00:03, 16 November 2016 (UTC)

Rangeblock affecting dashboard.wikiedu.org
Hi! I just discovered that a rangeblock from a few days ago, Special:Block/2600:3C00:0:0:0:0:0:0/30, is blocking all the edits from dashboard.wikiedu.org. Specifically, the dashboard's IPv6 address is 2600:3c03::f03c:91ff:fe08:7973 (and 45.56.98.206 for IPv4). It's a linode server, so I'm guessing that it got caught based on some other bad actors using a linode server. Can I remove the block, or can you narrow it so that it excludes that address? Thanks!--ragesoss (talk) 18:23, 16 November 2016 (UTC)
- @Ragesoss: Ugh. We have a sockmaster using linode - 82K edits from a single IPv6 address, which is just insane. I've unblocked, and if he returns I'll get with the other CheckUsers and figure out how to avoid wikiedu's IP address. Thanks for letting me know. :-) Katietalk 19:38, 16 November 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks much! If you want to block just account creation but allow edits from logged in users, that should be fine. No account creation happens directly through wikiedu.org. --Sage (Wiki Ed) (talk) 20:30, 16 November 2016 (UTC)
IP/account abuse
Hey Katie. I finally had some time to make a dig in the revision history of the Alania article, as something was reeking for quite some time. Basically, I'm 99% sure that IP 31.146.248.126 is operated for illegitimate means by user "Lashalakerbaia". I've listed all evidence here, on the talk page of the article in question. Could you perhaps take a look at it? Bests - LouisAragon (talk) 05:02, 18 November 2016 (UTC)
mainpage
hello, I was wondering if you are able to edit the main page in the on this day section to include the end of the Battle of the Somme which I think should be on the main page as it was an important even in world war one. thank you for reading Teabagishere (talk) 09:34, 18 November 2016 (UTC)
Hi Katie,
Would you mind taking a look at the unblock request on the above page? Although the accounts weren't created how they should have been, the CU data would seem to support the claim that they were created for an edit-a-thon. Cheers —DoRD (talk) 13:24, 18 November 2016 (UTC)

Rollback request
Hi Katie, this May I had requested for rollback permission at PERM and you had advised me that you will reconsider if I apply after a few months for the same. This is the sixth running month since then and I have put in quite a bit of reverting experience between that time and now. You can see my reverts and undos to review the same. May I request you to consider granting the rollback flag now? Thanks and best. Lourdes 14:51, 17 November 2016 (UTC)
- @Lourdes: I can take a look on Monday – I don't have the time to investigate right now as I'm traveling. It would be faster to request again at PERM and note that you've had more experience since your first request. It's not necessary to ping me if you do decide to go that route, but you can if you like. Or you can wait. Up to you. :-) Katietalk 02:14, 18 November 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply. I'm in no hurry actually :) Shall wait for your review. Have a good, safe and pleasant travel. Cheers. Lourdes 02:31, 18 November 2016 (UTC)
