Hi Katie, hope you're doing well. In September, you gave the above user a final warning notice here [1] and you told me to tell you if the behaviour continued. I'm sorry to report that he's still be adding unsourced content and completely made up claims, such as with this edit on Orchard Road ([2]) and on Kawasaki Heavy Industries & CSR Sifang C151C here ([3]). The disruption that his unsourced content is doing, from a readers perspective is quite bad, because before I signed up, when I was on holiday in India once, I remember reading the page BEST Transport division and read some unsourced content added by Timothyhouse1, which actually made me quite excited, but i searched the internet for an hour looking to see if the claim he wrote was true, and there were no results. When I revisited the page in October, I had a look at who had added it, and found out it was Tim, so this has been going on for some time. I think an indefinite block needs to be implemented unless he can learn to source whatever claim he makes. Sorry to have to tell you, and I'm not deliberately trying to get this user blocked, but I think this may be necessary now as it's the only way he will learn. Class455 (talk) 16:09, 22 November 2016 (UTC)

@Class455: Indef blocked. It would not surprise me if this guy starts to sock rather than appeal, so just be aware. Thanks. :-) Katietalk 21:48, 22 November 2016 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) I would have indef blocked him a few years ago. I just assumed good faith. The Rambling Man (talk) 22:08, 22 November 2016 (UTC)
@KrakatoaKatie: FYI, take a look at Special:Contributions/Timothyhouse1 On Tour. The account hasn't edited yet, but I strongly suspect it may be used as a sockpuppet of this user. It was created a few months back though. Not sure of the exact date. I hope he doesn't follow Profile101's example and sock persistently, reducing his chances of a successful appeal. Losing sleep

I'm not, never have nor ever will try to get you to "lose sleep" over anything here. The comment on ERRORS wasn't directed at you, but you over-reacted to it. We both messed up. I, for one, apologise for my role in that. I'm sorry you get rape threats and I'm even more sorry (for myself perhaps) that you thought I needed to ramp up my comments beyond rape threats to get to you. Whisk

Hi KrakatoaKatie. Is there anyway to have Whisk (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) long-term protected for confirmed users only? The article has been protected a quite a number of times since 2012 (the last time was by you in October), but the vandals come back everytime the protection expires. My guess is that it's the same person/group of people doing this, probably even the one(s) mentioned in the posts, as some kind of joke. They seem saavy enough to know how the protection thing works and to keep using different accounts. Some of what is being added mentions individuals by name and may even be considered a BLP violation. FWIW, I did recently request this at WP:RPP, but it was declined here. I have no problem with that decline, but want to know if it's worth making another RPP request or simply to just keep reverting this whenever it happens. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:28, 23 November 2016 (UTC)

@Marchjuly: I overlooked this, and I apologize for that. :-/ I've put pending changes on it for six months, which I hope gives these clowns time to find another hobby. Katietalk 20:22, 26 November 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for taking a peek. There are bots and others watching the article so the edits are usually caught fairly quickly. One of the people whose name keeps getting added seems to be Dan Howell so not sure whether that's part of the joke or an intended BLP violation. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:19, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
I'm betting it's the latter. And I can't get an edit filter written, probably, because he's notable. PC ought to do the trick, and if it doesn't, let me know. :-) Katietalk 00:33, 27 November 2016 (UTC)

Help, I don't know where to post this...

Please take a look at this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Log/Ardathekaraof. Fairly-new editor with some editing issues created this account the same day they started editing. "Scientist Lover" could not be reported at SPI because it has a Title Blacklist. Thanks, Shearonink (talk) 16:36, 27 November 2016 (UTC)

@Shearonink: Well, it hasn't edited yet. If the older account gets blocked, let me know and I'll handle it. :-) Katietalk 16:46, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
Ok, will do. I"ll check it from time to time - it'll probably turn into an abandoned account. Shearonink (talk) 17:30, 27 November 2016 (UTC)

WP:NOTHERE editor and possible sock

Hi Katie!

Hope you're well! Could do with a view on this one - NorwichFan2016 was created this afternoon and seems to be posting exclusively disruptive edits. Also a possible sock, see this diff: [4] - could you have a quick look if you get a spare minute? Thanks! Mike1901 (talk) 19:25, 27 November 2016 (UTC)

Rev deletion

Hey, I was wondering if you could rev delete and remove my latest edit on WP:ANI, and, subsequently, the ones here as well. This is to make sure that the troll does not know that I use an alt to report them, etc, and the identity of this account. It would be much appreciated. @Eik Corell: I've done what I can, but it's not much. I can't block the range long-term because it's too big; if he persists today, we can do it for a short period. I'll be around on IRC if that's necessary. :-) Katietalk 18:35, 1 December 2016 (UTC)

Violation of an indefinite image upload ban

Hi Katie,

The reason I'm writing you this is because the admin who personally unblocked the user in question hasn't been active for some time now (Coffee), and the same goes for the other patrolling admins (Ohnoitsjamie and MaxSem). This user in question, "NadirAli" had his/her indefinite block lifted on 24 February 2016, on the condition that he'd receive an indefinite topic ban on uploading images. However, it seems that he has violated this 2-3 days ago on numerous ocassions as he uploaded a new WP:OR-loaded map (without any sources) on several articles[5][6][7] -- a map which he in fact has created himself on top of that as well.[8]

I'd like to add to that, that even though the block log of this user reaches well into the double digits for a plenthora of reasons, and apart from this topic ban violation, he has continued with quite a few of these very same reasons for which he was blocked priorly, such as deleting sourced content without an edit summary, adding sources that blatanty violate WP:RS,[9][10], as well as still a battleground-like editorial pattern, whenever he/she feels like doing so.[11][12][13]. Lastly, admin Coffee had furthermore added on NadirAli's talk page, after unblocking, that "If you violate this ban, you will be blocked indefinitely and a siteban will be proposed at WP:ANI (considering your past actions). Please take the proper precautions to ensure you do not violate this ban, and I hope you realize that we are being very generous to lift this block at all." Bests - LouisAragon (talk) 18:05, 22 November 2016 (UTC)
@LouisAragon: Nice to hear from you! I've looked this over, and since Coffee told him that further problems would be heard there, that's where this needs to go so it gets a wider audience. Katietalk 20:48, 2 December 2016 (UTC)
Hey Katie, likewise ;) So you would concur with me that its a violation of the ban imposed by Coffee? Just to be sure, that we won't waste our own time at ANI as well as that of the rest of the communnity. If yes, I will drop it ANI as soon as I have time. Bests - LouisAragon (talk) 00:43, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
KrakatoaKatie? You there? :-) - LouisAragon (talk) 21:30, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
How did I miss your reply? Never mind, I don't want to know. ;-) Yes, take it to ANI given the conditions of the unblock. Katietalk 21:55, 7 December 2016 (UTC)

NFLjunkie22?

Hi Katie! I noticed that you warned NFLjunkie22 that he/she might be blocked from editing for personal attacks (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:NFLjunkie22#November_2016). Well, you might want to see if his/her comments towards Johnuniq and I qualify as personal attacks. Especially where he calls Johnuniq sexist (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Zara_Larsson#Consensus_for_removal_or_restoration). The comments were not constructive by any stretch of the imagination and I was somewhat offended by them. I would appreciate it if you would take a look at the comments and take the appropriate action. Thank you, Jith12 (talk) 02:28, 3 December 2016 (UTC) Jith12 (talk) 02:28, 3 December 2016 (UTC)

@Jith12: He's edit warring on Zara Larsson. He should be warned with {{uw-3rr}} and if he reverts again he should be reported to AN3. I think that's the best way to handle this. I expect, based on prior behavior, that he'll argue about the warning on his talk page. If he does, ignore it and don't argue back. Drmies seems to have an eye on the talk page and I'll leave that to him. Katietalk 03:19, 3 December 2016 (UTC)
I left the message on his talk page. If he attacks me should I report it? If I should report a personal attack where should I do so? Thanks, Jith12 (talk) 19:06, 3 December 2016 (UTC)
Hi Katie! He replied to the message on his talk page. He said that "He hadn't edited the page recently". Should I say anything or just ignore it? Also, I think that he has committed the third revert by calling Zara Larsson a misandrist again (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Zara_Larsson&action=history). Should we do something about it? Thanks, Jith12 (talk) 23:02, 3 December 2016 (UTC)
Meh, ignore it. He's either going to continue his behavior or he isn't. If he does, AN3 is thataway. :-) Katietalk 00:41, 4 December 2016 (UTC)

Question

Hi, the user you currently blocked made these changes in his userpage ([16]), ([17]), is this appropriate? (I was mentioned too among others (including you), but I think I should not react or it would be improper). Thanks for the answer.(KIENGIR (talk) 16:43, 4 December 2016 (UTC))

You have to take a look at external links section, where you will find out those words, Vodafone ussd codes, idea ussd codes, Aircel ussd codes, BSNL Ussd codes, these links are spammed links. Please take a look at it and take immediate action against his site and him. I just want to make wikipedia as clean as possible, I hope you will block and remove all his links.

Hi Katie.

Thanks for chipping in, and sorry that I keep pinging you about this. I'll be honest, I was originally thinking that WP:Hat collecting might come into play here, but it seemed like a bit of an AGF violation to suggest it originally, but I sense he might be getting on your nerves a little? If I may be Bold in suggesting it, do you think he could become a CIR case? I also didn't realise that was his second time on asking you about it. My mistake! :-/ If I suggested that WP:NOTSOCIALMEDIA might fit this scenario, what would you say? MM ('"HURRRR?) (Hmmmmm.) 13:50, 12 December 2016 (UTC)

@Matticusmadness: Nah, he's not getting on my nerves. I've been ignoring him. ;-) I'd hold on CIR for now. I'd also hold on citing HATSHOP because he may not know about the user permissions, and he could start in at PERM. He's either going to edit or he's not, and if he does, great. If he doesn't, and keeps bugging people about privileges, he's eventually going to get a NOTHERE block. We can't save everybody, and I've given him the straightest advice I could, so I'm probably done with it. And you can ask me about anything anytime, mistakes or no. :-) Katietalk 14:12, 12 December 2016 (UTC)

Tired

Hi Katie, Not sure if you remember me- you gave me guidance on LiveChat this past week on how to avoid an edit war in my effort to neutralize JT Leroy[1] and Laura Albert [2] pages. I mentioned that I met Laura Albert in person about 10 years ago, but as you clarified, I feel I have been inaccurately labeled as having COI.

I have been working on the pages (as well as other pages[3]) of my own volition, as I enjoy learning about Wiki. I've also been studying the WP policy pages you referenced.

Huon articulated the situation. [4] I'm afraid of adverse affects to authors if there is undue weight given to Msturm's "outrage"[5] and disregard for the definition of "pseudonym." [6]

Per your instructions, I tried to discuss on the Talk page, initiated a DRN, and most recently on the BLPN. DRN was closed in deference to the BLPN, but there hasn't been progress otherwise as of yet.

Meanwhile, Msturm_8 reverted edits,[7] [8] I pointed out the user's actions, but did not engage in editing.

However, I gave up hope of discussion when I noticed that Msturm_8 accused me of collusion on another user's page [9]. Moreover, the user's language on the Talk page has become hostile[10]

I am seeking your help because I do not wish to be the target of further accusations or hostility.

PacificOcean (talk) 02:36, 17 December 2016 (UTC)

@PacificOcean: Now it's time to take this to WP:ANI. Be sure you're ready to do it, because your conduct will be examined as well. Follow the instructions at the top of the page and be sure you notify the other editor that you've started the discussion, because that is mandatory.
In addition, instead of using the reference tags like you did here just use diffs and wikilinks (Laura Albert, not the entire URL of the page) when you compose your message. It will make it much easier for people to read (and for you to compose!). As an example, here's how I would have done your last paragraph (without the blockquote format, of course):

However, I gave up hope of discussion when I noticed that Msturm_8 accused me of collusion on another user's page. Moreover, the user's language on the Talk page has become hostile.

There is a way to address this issue in a neutral point of view, but if there's someone standing in the way of it, that conduct needs to be looked at. I'll follow the ANI discussion. Hang in there.. :-) Katietalk 10:19, 17 December 2016 (UTC)

References

Hi Katie, Thanks will study how to do diffs and wiki links. Sorry for the multiple revisions too, I wanted to make sure I wrote clearly even though I was feeling hurt. I decided to send an email instead of posting because I would rather not be in the middle of things anymore. I'd welcome my own conduct to be examined and for the other user to have the opportunity to speak for themselves, but I'd like to avoid being a target as much as I can help it. Thanks for your prompt response and for all your help.PacificOcean (talk) 01:29, 18 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi Katie, I emailed the Oversight people but they didn't seem to care. I noticed that the BLPN post and the DRN posts have both disappeared. I just tried to edit the page and my edits were immediately reverted by Msturm_8. I am reluctant to post on WP:ANI because I don't want to be a target further; at this point MSturm_8 has reverted enough edits (both mine and other volunteers) in violation of WP policy that I hope it's not my place to keep flagging it. PacificOcean (talk) 07:48, 20 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi Katie, I give up. I tried to get help on Live chat as Msturm_8 reverted my edits in realtime, and I was just brushed off and told to go somewhere else to "plead my case." It's not my case, I've been trying to keep the page neutral for the sake of Wikipedia quality and being true to its policy. I'm giving up.PacificOcean (talk) 08:06, 20 December 2016 (UTC)

@PacificOcean: I'm sorry to hear you're frustrated. I'm an Oversighter and I agree with my colleagues that it's not within that policy, and we can't suppress edits that don't meet that criteria. I understand your reluctance to post at ANI, but that is the appropriate venue to get administrators to look at the conduct of a user You've been extremely patient, but if you don't want to go further, there's not much more to say. Katietalk 10:54, 20 December 2016 (UTC)

I very much appreciate your assistance, but I was under the impression on our chat that the other user's activity was self-evident and they were on their final straw. I was under the impression that if I pointed out their activity on DRN, then the community would evaluate from there. Instead it went idle, then I posted on BLPN and that went idle and went to the background. Meanwhile since I was told to engage the user in dialogue I did so, and that, as I anticipated, only ended up with me being false accused and on the bitter end of that user's hostility. If Wikimedia insists that this is "my case" to fight and doesn't want to look into it further, then that's their problem. It's not my problem if Wikimedia doesn't take it seriously when users violate Wikipedia's own policy of neutrality; especially when it relates to a living person who could potentially be hurt by libel. I've followed instructions, but it only drags out and I get hurt instead. This is not my problem, it's Wikimedia's, so I'm done. PacificOcean (talk) 18:12, 20 December 2016 (UTC)

By the way, you should know that on the Talk page most recently the user in question has called the living subject a "pathological liar." I believe this kind of talk being allowed on Wikipedia is a potential liability for defamation. And Wiki is equally as corrupt by continually rerouting the user who is trying to point this activity out to them.PacificOcean (talk) 18:25, 20 December 2016 (UTC)

Tonic (band)

Do you think it's been long enough to drop FP on Tonic (band) yet? Jackmcbarn (talk) 19:48, 19 December 2016 (UTC)

@Jackmcbarn: Sure. Looks like our problem editors have either retired or are on a break. If the nonsense resumes, let me know. :-) Katietalk 19:51, 19 December 2016 (UTC)

Persistent Obamacare/university article editor

At ANI, you indicated that you were trying a range block and an edit filter to stop the block-evading editor who is slowly spamming different articles with off-topic nonsense about Obamacare and phone numbers in the edit summary. He or she is still at it but using a much shorter block of text. ElKevbo (talk) 06:39, 21 December 2016 (UTC)

@ElKevbo: Got it. Blocked the individual IP, but I really don't want to have to block 65K Verizon Wireless IPs. We do have an edit filter in place to catch him, and it has in fact caught some of it.. If MusikAnimal doesn't see this to make a couple of tweaks, I'll mention it to him later today on IRC. Thanks very much. :-) Katietalk 10:18, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
Awesome. Thanks so much! ElKevbo (talk) 15:43, 21 December 2016 (UTC)

Was this on purpose?

I think maybe the reporting IP was blocked instead of the actual vandal?--Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 23:55, 21 December 2016 (UTC)

@Ponyo: I think I chose the wrong block reason, but 99% sure that's Taokaka. Didn't run it but the behavior matches. Katietalk 01:06, 22 December 2016 (UTC)
"..and that, children, is why you always check with the blocking admin." I saw it at AIV and noticed the reporter was blocked for vandalism instead of the reportee, but when I saw it was you who made the block I knew I was likely missing something :) Cheers, --Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 02:02, 22 December 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for that user-block but have a question

The 41.137.59.xx Editor has (so far) been using the range from 41.137.59.28 - 41.137.59.111 & maybe .120. I see you range-blocked 41.137.59.0/25. How did that do the trick of blocking all the other IPs? Shearonink (talk) 21:04, 17 December 2016 (UTC)

@Shearonink: That covers 41.137.59.0 to 41.137.59.127 - 128 IP addresses. See here. It's possible the block isn't quite wide enough and I'll need to do the /24. If so, just let me know. :-) Katietalk 21:19, 17 December 2016 (UTC)
Sigh. They're back. They won't engage, they won't discuss, I've left notices on their IP talk pages, I've left notices on article talk pages. Help. Shearonink (talk) 21:24, 28 December 2016 (UTC)
Blocked one month. Katietalk 21:43, 28 December 2016 (UTC)

Hey

Heya Katie. I read your user page.It was amazing. Can you give me guideline for my upcoming articles. You said that you have deleted my editted portion in my editted article. Can you say what was the reason. I am happy today because I am also a wikipedian today — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kanishka Williamson (talkcontribs) 16:25, 23 December 2016 (UTC)

WP:ANI

Hello Katie, I saw you were an admin who quite recently edited WP:ANI. An editor (EEng) edited a non-admin-archived discussion I started, claiming they didn't know it was archived, although they would have had to see it was to even edit the section, and I think he just wanted to get the last word in. Is it not against policy for editors to do this? I was reverted for undoing the edit, with EEng saying I was to trying to "control" what he said, despite me only reverting because I thought it is against policy. If it is, and you disagree with their claim of not knowing it was archived, can you please undo EEng's restored comment to WP:ANI#User:Jennica cursing at me in edit summaries? 05:52, 24 December 2016 (UTC)

Oh also, I forgot to ask: is it right that a user involved in the discussion and who was opposed to what I was saying closed the discussion? I thought users were supposed to be uninvolved before doing that. Also, nobody warned Jennica not to swear at others and to remain calm; it seemed like they were implicitly condoning cursing. I let it go there because I didn't want it to go further, but the way it was closed, and EEng editing to get the last word in were not right. Ss112 09:32, 24 December 2016 (UTC)
