- Gerda Arendt, very nice! Is there somewhere I can listen to a piece as well? An Youtube (or other) link, perhaps? Ktin (talk) 18:10, 22 November 2020 (UTC)
- I found nothing there, and by descriptions it's excessively noisy ;) - There's a link to a YT video with music below the beeches image, - that was sent to me yesterday for today's memorial day, - interspersed with German meditation, but great pics even then. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:15, 22 November 2020 (UTC)

I support the praise, loved it, and loved to see her all day! Same for Beethoven today, and thank you for noticing. Only, I didn't like that we decide someone's birthday per RfC. Google decided for 17 December, and we will have to work a miracle or have nothing then. I just noticed and have no idea yet. One tiny thing
You recently referred to "a wrestler" with over 200 acting credits being ignored by those with high standards for far too long. Please understand, this hurts my pride. I gotta be a fan, I can't let it slide. Zeus was a phony, a mythical character, a con! Not even "fake" in the usual way, where Mantaur ain't fooling any farmers' daughters. The Mike behind the Moo there at least went to school, made his towns and accepted TV exposure as its own reward. Zeus dropped out after (barely) passing Clobber and Squeeze class, never worked a house show and was paid around $300,000 for four easy tapings. No disrespect intended, he played the role well, same as Mickey Rourke did his, and his in-ring stuff was even better than Rourke's. But that was in 1989 dollars, while George Gray was "starring" alongside Hogan as two characters, in singles matches for $5,000 each, except on TV! Wrestler, schmestler, just an illusion.
Anyway, not knocking you, him, ITN or SAG, just something to consider. Common outsider misconception. Don't believe everything you read about Vince's Santa Claus going out in a blaze of roid rage, either, his name was Xanta Claus and roids weren't really his thing. Santa with Muscles and his brother from Santa's Slay, though...let's just say they "looked the part".
Never too soon to start sprucing up Hogan and Goldberg's filmographies, I guess is what I'm saying, to anyone listening at this end. IMDb, TMZ, best online casinos. It's true what they say: when recent death gets hard, it's No Source Barred! InedibleHulk (talk) 13:55, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- InedibleHulk, I am totally lost, kind fellow editor. As a wrestling romantic myself, Undertaker, Mankind, and Stone Cold being my favorites in no particular order, I wish(ed) no disrespect. Pardon me if I did. Was it my referencing in abstract? i.e. "a wrestler" rather than by name? Ktin (talk) 07:37, 19 December 2020 (UTC)
- I spent about forty minutes slowly onscreen inputting a wonderful explanation, based loosely on the career paths of Cactus Jack, Stunning Steve and Mean Mark from 1989 to 1998, but was edit conflicted. Bottom line, you might have called him "an actor" or by one of his names, but it's nothing very insulting, just worth remembering how a wrestler's real life story is nothing like a Hollywood romance. Now if you'll kindly excuse me, I have to channel my rage into something more productive than flipping the double bird to the ham 'n' egger below and chucking him off the virtual cage! InedibleHulk (talk) 17:53, 19 December 2020 (UTC)
- InedibleHulk, wonderful. Now, remember, no virtual cage match can beat this match! Have a wonderful day there, while I re-live this one on YouTube. Ktin (talk) 18:17, 19 December 2020 (UTC)

- @AleatoryPonderings: -- Howdy! Thanks for all the edits on Lorraine Monk. I think the article has shaped up quite well. Quick check -- do you know much about the Canadian archives and the image use policy? Reason I ask is there are lots of good images here. Based on the image use policy, and if there is a central archives from where we could use some of these images, they could come handy on the article. Amongst others, I am thinking the US bicentennial gift image could be powerful (also, for the DYK). Might be worth checking on the US side too. Appreciate any leads if you come across one. Cheers. - Wow, fantastic work on that. How ever did you find it?? Given that Monk worked for the Canadian government for so long, I'm surprised there aren't more images of her on government sites. Adding cause of death in Deaths in 2021
Hi. I appreciate why you left some kind of instruction in your recent edit summary at the above page, to the effect that editors should always add a cause of death. But it's just not that simple. If reliable sources on the internet don't quote a cause of death, we cannot add them. And as we expressly discourage guesswork and assumption, your plea will prove moot. CoD at Deaths is often a contentious area, and we need to keep them real, authentic and properly sourced. Thanks. Ref (chew)(do) 22:46, 3 February 2021 (UTC)

RDs
Thanks for your efforts to streamline and standarize the RD process. I don't have the energy to pursur this, and you are under no obligation either, but one thing that has irked me is that while some admins leave a 7th (or even 8th) item posted if it hasn't had "enough time", whether it be 24h or more recently 12h, there's a few admins that will remove it before the "time" has elapsed. One problem is that there has never been consensus to formalize it. As far back at least December 2020—even before COVID—the issue came up at Wikipedia_talk:In_the_news/Archive_79#Recent_deaths_displayed_less_than_24_hours, but the rough consensus was to leave it as an IAR exception. Now some admins have said it's too complicated for them to check timestamps, etc. so they don't want yet another thing to check. But there is at least one, if not more, admins that, instead of just blindly adding one RD and removing another, seem ok to go the extra step of checking for extras beyond 6 and promptly removing them. So perhaps some can't be bother to do one extra timestamp check but same person(s) don't mind doing another extra check of removing RD when > 6. Ok, the math is a little more work. C'est la vie. It's funny that I see "admin discretion" overly used everywhere else to questionably defend admin decisions. But allowing "admin discretion" seems rarely done at ITN/RD, where posts are commonly pulled. Cheers.—Bagumba (talk) 18:39, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
- Oops. I'm pretty sure the 24h debate has been discussed for a while, but that link above was actually recent. I don't have time right now to research further.—Bagumba (talk) 18:41, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
- Bagumba, Thanks Bagumba. I agree with almost all of your points. I think at the end of the day, it boils down to Admin capacity. That is definitely hard to come by making us hold onto a scant resource. As TRM notes in one of his more recent posts on that thread, decoupling roles and providing editors some tools to promote etc., might be the only way this would ever get solved, but, for sure that is not practical. C'est la vie indeed. Some days, I tell myself that all of this is not worth it. I might just need to pipe down and step back. Thanks for your message here and all that you do. Good luck and cheers. Ktin (talk) 19:18, 13 February 2021 (UTC)

- I took a look at this article following your comment at WP:ERRORS. The text seems fine but it's a shame that there isn't a picture to go with it. If there is no free image available, you may not be aware that we have the option to use another picture as fair use once a person is dead, and so we might add a good picture such as this one. I have often done this myself for other subjects such as Jack Wasserman and you can see the details of the image at File:Jack Wasserman.jpg. If you should need any help with this, please feel free to ask. Andrew🐉(talk) 22:16, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
- Andrew Davidson, Thanks for this offer of help Andrew. Recently, in a few discussions on the topic of WP:FAIRUSE at WP:ITNRD the recommendation was that we wait a couple of months after a person's death to claim an image under fair use. Hence, did not use an image under that category. I find myself lost with all the image guidelines that are around and I do seek support to help upload images. E.g. at Priscilla Jana. That said, do you think this particular image, by virtue of being from the government (provincial), will automatically be in public domain? Thoughts? Thanks. Ktin (talk) 22:28, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
- I get trouble sometimes too and have even had photographs deleted that I took myself. So, it is sadly necessary to master the rules about this. I am familiar with the argument that recent deaths are not eligible for fair use but that's wrong in my opinion, not being based upon any firm policy. As there is no exact consensus about this, it helps to consult with others about particular cases so that a good search is made and all options explored. In any case, all copyrights expire given sufficient time and so any limits are always temporary.

- In the case of Charan Gill, the BC government website seems quite aggressive in claiming copyright and charging a fee for use so that may not be the best choice. It might be easier to use a photograph such as this, which first appeared on Twitter.

- A note on fair use of recently deceased bios from a (talk page watcher). Consensus on how long we have to wait is murky. The most recent discussion I'm aware of is Wikipedia:Files_for_discussion/2020_May_29#File:George_Floyd.png, where the closer determined "this discussion is of the view that an interpretation of the policy WP:NFCC#1 that presumes that free images of recently deceased people are normally available is mistaken, and that the guideline WP:NFCI #10 should be read with the presumption that obtaining a free image of recently deceased people is normally not likely." (though this is not an RFC and is not encoded in policy) Eddie891 Talk Work 13:28, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
- FYI, I just checked the stats for yesterday's DYK bundle. They worked out much as I expected. Charan Gill's blip wasn't as big as the one from ITN but you did well to get two bites at the cherry as, per WP:DYKRULES, articles which have appeared at ITN are not eligible for DYK. If anyone complains, point them at WP:IAR :) Andrew🐉(talk) 10:07, 14 February 2021 (UTC)
- Andrew Davidson, So, there is a fine print there. It should have appeared as a "bold" article in ITN,which this didn't. Cheers :) Ktin (talk) 13:37, 14 February 2021 (UTC)
- That's a good point. I had supposed that the RDs appeared in bold text but see now that it's only the words "Recent deaths". This seems like a loophole but now that RD is so ephemeral, it's reasonably fair. Andrew🐉(talk) 23:06, 14 February 2021 (UTC)
