Hi, Kzaral, Welcome to Wikipedia!

I hope you like this place — I sure do — and want to stay. Before getting too in-depth, you may want to read about the Five pillars of Wikipedia and simplified ruleset. If you need help on how to title new articles check out the naming conventions, and for help on formatting the pages visit the manual of style. If you need help look at Wikipedia:Help and the FAQ , plus if you can't find your answer there, check the Village Pump (for Wikipedia related questions) or the Reference Desk (for general questions)! There's still more help at the Tutorial and Policy Library. Plus, don't forget to visit the Community Portal. And if you have any more questions after that, feel free to post them on my user talk page or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will be by to help you shortly.

Additional tips

edit

Here's some extra tips to help you get around in the 'pedia!

  • If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills the Sandbox is for you.
  • You can sign your name using three tildes (~). If you use four, you can add a datestamp too. Five will get you the datestamp only.
  • You may want to add yourself to the new user log.
  • If you ever think a page or image should be deleted, please list it at the votes for deletion page. There is also a votes for undeletion page if you want to retrieve something that you think should not have been deleted.
  • If you're still entirely confused, or would like to get a better grasp of your wikipedia skills, and you have an IRC client (or don't mind getting one), check out the Bootcamp. It's not what it sounds like, but it is fun and can help you with your editing skills.
  • If you're bored and want to find something to do, try the Random page button in the sidebar, or check out the Open Task message in the Community Portal.

Cities of South Korea thanks you

edit

Excellent work. You fixed a number of links, grammar mistakes, and added some pictures in a single edit. The article is much more professional looking now. Thank you. I sometimes have trouble remembering which spelling is more accepted in relation to certain cities and especially in recognizing that Pocheon and Bucheon might be the same place. Very good. I welcome any further additions you would like to add. They are currently listed by population, but there are other things that could be included. For instance, the depopulation of Mokpo is especially interesting. Likewise, some information from the Speical Cities of Korea could be moved to Cities of South Korea page. I would be happy to work with you one this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by DaronDierkes (talkcontribs) 06:42, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Electric Utilities of Japan.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Shell babelfish 22:20, 8 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Copy/Paste move of Musashi Gundoh

edit

I realize this happened a year and a half ago, but on Talk:Musashi Gundoh you indicated that you performed a copy/paste move of the page to its new location. This is the incorrect way to move pages, because it separates the history (attributing everything you moved over to you, when you may or may not have been the one to contribute that information originally). The resulting move violates the GFDL. Can you tell me the title you moved it from so I can perform a history merge and correct the problem? Leebo T/C 21:53, 20 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Japanese flags

Thanks for what you have done so far. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 21:56, 30 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! I guess I should learn to handle .svg, but .png images are still better than nothing, hopefully. Kzaral (talk) 11:54, 1 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
It doesn't bother me what format the images are in at all. As long as there is a construction sheet I can look at, like with the Nara-ken no hata you did, I can easily turn it into SVG. I am trying to build a list of these sheets together at User:Zscout370/jpmon and you are welcome to edit that page to show other prefectures that I missed. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 16:05, 1 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Question; what got you interested into flags? I like to study flags as a hobby, but been doing a lot of the Japanese flags lately because I am learning the language at my college. If you feel like talking to me off Wikipedia about it, that is fine. There are some stuff I still need to learn about it, especially the JIS-Z color standards for images. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 15:47, 4 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

I am also a flag fan with an interest in Soviet-era flags. Don't worry too much about flags being in Pantone, we have websites now that give the official Pantone shades. I also have software that gives the Pantone colors. I am just new with Munsell colors and, using the software you suggested, I can make Japanese flags more accurate. I am still trying to get construction sheets for the flags, but with your help, we both can do something great. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 05:15, 9 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hmm..the program is failing for me, but I will try and install it later. The only flag I had problems getting the right color for is that of Nagano Prefecture; the JIS-Z number is listed on the flag/mon construction sheet. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 05:26, 9 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

As for the Kagawa Prefecture, I found out the color of the symbol is JIS-Z-8721 according to their website and symbol document. The flag is the same color while the symbol is white on the flag. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 08:59, 10 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. Speedy deletion nomination of Keihin Ferry Boat

edit

A tag has been placed on Keihin Ferry Boat requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for organizations and companies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Source for flag descriptions?

edit

Hello, Kzaral. I came upon the page List of municipal flags of Shikoku in the process of disambiguating links to Inland Sea and noticed that the description of Imabari's flag seemed improbable. The page suggested that i stands for Inland Sea, when I think it could more probably stand for Imabari.

I then noticed that none of these descriptions cite a source. Do they come from some official source, or are they your own (or some other Wikipedian's) descriptions? In the latter case, they would constitute original research, something frowned on. If there is a source – official or otherwise – it needs to be cited on the page. Non-free rationale for File:Musashi Gundo.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Musashi Gundo.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. The article List of defunct railway companies in Japan has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No sources, connected to the wrong wikidata item, etc...

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
