Thanks

Hi Laterthanyouthink,

Thanks for your help and advice on the Stuffed toy article. I wasn’t sure what sort of reception I would get, especially because there weren’t any super active editors on the article, so it was nice to interact with a more experienced editor. Your tips on wikilinks and on checking the images in the mobile version were particularly helpful, and I applied them to another article I was working on as well. Thanks for the positive experience! --Lhill21 (talk) 21:23, 17 October 2020 (UTC)

Hi Lhill21. No worries at all, glad to have been of assistance. Congratulations on your very thorough work - you have the makings of a fine editor and I hope you will stick around after your project is finished! Laterthanyouthink (talk) 02:21, 18 October 2020 (UTC)

Thanks!

Thanks for the advice on this disambiguation thing, laterthanyouthink, and thanks for reading my articles. I might end up doing Lawn Hill but there's so much other damn interesting Australian and Pacific colonial history out there that needs to go on Wikipedia so I don't know when I'll get around to it! Let me know if there's any other topics you think I could add to. Cheers. Dippiljemmy (talk) 01:22, 22 October 2020 (UTC)

No worries, Dippiljemmy - I know there's always an endless list of things to do in that area, and many others! You may be interested in adding to another topic I hope to start today, so I'll ping you when I have some basics down. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 01:29, 22 October 2020 (UTC)
Hey no problem with the Lawn Hill thing, whenever you're ready let me know and I'll help you out however I can. No rush, Wikipedia is forever, so there's plenty of time.(Dippiljemmy (talk) 07:02, 26 October 2020 (UTC))
Nice work there with the Stolen Wages section, I'll try and add a bit of policy and implementation on this from the era. Rosalind Kidd is good ref for that. Keep meaning to flesh out the pearling section of this article. crazy history there. i'll let you know when i've added material. Hopefully soon!(Dippiljemmy (talk) 10:21, 3 November 2020 (UTC)
Yes, Dippiljemmy I came across multiple mentions of her work, and found the source, but haven't dug up access to it as yet. Will follow that up sometime... Laterthanyouthink (talk) 10:34, 3 November 2020 (UTC)
Hi Laters, put a brief history behind the stolen wages section of slavery in Australia. Hopefully this supplements your contributions well. Will probably add stuff to some other sections in this article soon. Happy wikipedia-ing!(Dippiljemmy (talk) 09:37, 16 November 2020 (UTC))

Thanks, Dippiljemmy, that's great. I'll get back to that one one day too. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 11:22, 16 November 2020 (UTC)

Thanks

Hi, thank you very much for your help. We have finished our page on Wikipedia, can you give some suggestions in order to make it approved, Draft: Rocca di Manerba del Garda. Thank you in advance. Milan20MA (talk) 08:02, 25 November 2020 (UTC)

Hi Milan20MA. Sure, I'll have a look at the draft when I have time and see if I can provide any advice - I'm just trying to tidy up a few other things on my list at the moment! Laterthanyouthink (talk) 08:20, 26 November 2020 (UTC)
Laterthanyouthink Thank you very much, I really appreciate it. The article is for a university project and as a team, we really need to make it approved in less than two weeks. Milan20MA (talk) 08:23, 26 November 2020 (UTC)

Kaurna

Hi Laterthanyouthink, you may be interested in the Kaurna cultural resources on the City of Charles Sturt website, and this link in particular - Yerta Bulti (Port River and Estuary region). Cheers, Bahudhara (talk) 07:01, 16 November 2020 (UTC)

Hi Bahudhara, thanks for that, looks great. Right now I'm stuck down south and keep nearly drowning as I leap from plank to plank trying to nut down various details related to the Tjilbruke story, which keep taking me further away from my original plan to edit... (Nothing unusual for me, unfortunately. I seem to be drawn to obscure and barely documented corners like a magnet.) But it is my eventual plan to cover more Kaurna stuff, so those will be very useful. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 07:31, 16 November 2020 (UTC)
Hi again Laterthanyouthink, thanks for your edits on Tjilbruke, as that article really did need a lot of work. (I'm a bit limited in writing on some topics in the area from the Patawalonga to Port Adelaide, due to my close involvement with various community groups, and personally knowing some of the people who have written elsewhere on these topics.) Cheers, Bahudhara (talk) 06:52, 18 November 2020 (UTC)
No worries, Bahudhara. I haven't quite exhausted the sources I've found yet, so will probably tinker further later or tomorrow. (Somewhat distracted by today's announcements, among other things!) Thanks for your tidying and fixing of slip-ups. I'll also attempt to keep coming back to some of the Kaurna topics - there's lots to be covered - and use more of the sources you suggested above. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 07:13, 18 November 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for the catch on the east/west thing Bahudhara - I knew that, having just been staring at the map, but the brain didn't register what the fingers were typing! (Still on my very roundabout way back to Tjilbruke, when I get to the end of the current diversion...) Laterthanyouthink (talk) 09:45, 22 November 2020 (UTC)

ArbCom 2020 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2020 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 7 December 2020. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2020 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:39, 24 November 2020 (UTC)

I notice you linked, back in May, to a website full of pirated material to add a direct link for someone to download someone else's copyrighted materials illegally with this edit. Note I've removed the edit so it can no longer be viewed. As you're no doubt aware by now, having had several conversations with others, you cannot add copyrighted material, or links to copyright violations, on Wikipedia. Canterbury Tail talk 17:51, 26 November 2020 (UTC)

Canterbury Tail, I have little recollection of that edit, being so long ago and part of a long diversion from editing a different topic altogether - but I would not have knowingly linked to a work that I knew was pirated, so it would have been an honest mistake. Thanks for removing. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 22:53, 26 November 2020 (UTC)
I saw you were adding links to the Australian government trove site, unfortunately this was found in a different site also containing Trove in it's URL, but a very different site that is used to host pirated RPG materials. Since looking at your edits you were linking to the AUS Trove, I think it was an innocent mistake. Canterbury Tail talk 01:01, 27 November 2020 (UTC)
Oh, I see - thanks for the explanation, Canterbury Tail. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 01:09, 27 November 2020 (UTC)

Ways to improve Council for Aboriginal Rights

Hello, Laterthanyouthink,

Thank you for creating Council for Aboriginal Rights.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

Hi - thanks for creating this, it's a very interesting and notable organisation. My main comment is that the piece is under-referenced, for example the entire section titled "Foundation" contains only one reference.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Goldsztajn}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Goldsztajn (talk) 09:19, 1 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi Goldsztajn, thanks for your comments. I am literally in the middle of doing a bit of finishing and a tidy-up, becase I had just saved it before having to go out a few hours ago, after working on it on and off over a couple of days. Unfortunately there are not a huge number of varied resources for the organisation, but I'll find what I can before leaving it alone. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 09:43, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
Hi Laterthanyouthink, not sure if you are aware of these, the following (especially the last one) have pieces of information which could assist:
Regards,--Goldsztajn (talk) 10:02, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
Thanks very much for those, Goldsztajn. I had hit at least one those somewhere along the way and had noted it for later use, partly because I find JSTOR articles trickier and slower to navigate owing to the apparent lack of a "search within article" facility (or am I missing it?) and partly because of being under pressure of time with so many other "little" things on my list that need doing or finishing off... I work on the premise that something is better than nothing, but realise that the current article still needs better citations. Just wanted to get something up there from the easiest available sources to start with! I'll keep working on it intermittently though. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 10:25, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
Yes, the search function within JSTOR articles is somewhat frustrating. Not sure if you are aware but there are two options: when you are looking at an article, in the right corner immediately above the article is text which says "view XX search matches" this will take you to the page hits, but it does not do any highlighting. However, I generally download the file and then search within the PDF document itself, which is far easier and most importantly gets you highlighting! Regards, --Goldsztajn (talk) 10:32, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
FWIW – apologies if my original comment sounded critical; I completely agree with your editorial approach, far better to have something small, than nothing. --Goldsztajn (talk) 10:35, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
Ah, great, thanks for the tips re JSTOR. The (free and personal) subscription I have only seems to allow me to download some, and not all, PDFs, but I will spend some more time on that another day. It's getting late and I'm tired. No worries at all about your comments - I always welcome constructive criticism! Laterthanyouthink (talk) 10:48, 1 December 2020 (UTC)

Goldsztajn after a long and roundabout side-track onto anti-slavery societies and other organisations and related articles, I returned to this one to add a couple of those extra citations as Further reading, because I really cannot do any more on it now, with so many other things to attend to (and even some real life in between). But to follow up with the JSTOR limitations - it seems to behave peculiarly with me. I have now found that "view XX search matches" text you mentioned, which only shows if I click straight onto the link after searching, and not if I right click to open in a new tab (as I usually do), BUT, only shows for some articles and not others! (The Pilbara one works, but none of the others that came up on my search list.) And I couldn't find anything relevant in the Pearl Gibbs article. Anyhoo... As I said, I'm done with that one for now, but that search trick on JSTOR will come in handy when it works for me in the future! Laterthanyouthink (talk) 03:59, 5 December 2020 (UTC)

Cinque Vette Park page

Hi Laterthanyouthink, I am one of the creator of this Wikipedia page Draft:Cinque Vette Park, Lombardy, I would like to ask you if you could give a look at it. We submitted it on the 29th of November but it has not been accepted yet. My team and I would really appreciate that. Thank you in advance. Bighope71 (talk) 15:52, 20 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi Bighope71. I'll have a look when I have time, and add a few comments to the talk page, but it is quite a long article and I have a list of other things I'm trying to attend to at the moment (on and off wiki), so not sure when I'll get to it. I am not an official new page reviewer but can comment on a few things if I see anything obvious that could be improved or that are contrary to WP guidelines. (At a glance, it looks pretty good, but I don't have time to read it properly right now!) Laterthanyouthink (talk) 04:37, 21 December 2020 (UTC)

Ok, I understand you have other things to attend to. Thank you for taking a glimpse anyway. Bighope71 (talk) 10:00, 21 December 2020 (UTC)

Coon cheese

Hello. Thanks for your recent contributions to Coon cheese . I have edited a small portion of these. They were to remove talk in the article about citations and to remove excess information about the new name of the cheese.

If you have any questions, please leave a message on my talk page or open discussion on the article's. Thank you.

Lalla Rookh (1825)

Feel free to finish filling in the templates I added to the top of the page. See Template:Infobox ship for documentation on this group of templates. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 16:20, 1 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi davidwr. Thanks for that, I will do, just as soon as I've got to the end of the list page and the various other ships called Lalla Rookh (and will add infoboxes to them at some point too). And I have just realised the 1825 ship to be in sync with the other names (i.e. suffixed by ship in the parentheses). Laterthanyouthink (talk) 02:10, 2 February 2021 (UTC)

Christopher Pearson

I'm a very occasional intervener in wiki editing, and am not even sure if this will get to you, but I wanted to let you know of a couple additions to entry on Christopher Pearson, all based on my own personal knowledge of him from university days in Adelaide. Your edit history on this entry suggests you have sliced quite a lot from earlier content, shortening the profile considerably. For me, what's been removed looks interesting enough to have earned its place... but as I say, I'm an amateur here. Best wishes! Johanssenfs (talk) 23:40, 22 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Johanssenfs and thanks for your note. We can discuss the Christopher Pearson article on that article's talk page (I'll ping you there too), but at a quick glance, it looks as if the work I did on it added to the article rather than removed content...? Unfortunately everything on Wikipedia has to be sourced, citing a reliable source, so what you know and remember may not qualify for inclusion unless it is also published somewhere. Anyway, over to that page... Laterthanyouthink (talk) 04:47, 23 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for your thoufhtful and detailed reply. I have been looking for conformation of TA's role as pall bearer at CP's funeral but so far no records. As I recall the date of the funeral was during a tough time for TA, though whether as lead up to an election or something else I am not sure. It was especially memorable for this, the event bring held some distance from Adelaide on the Fleurieu Pdninsula where CP owned a modest country retreat. I'm travelling to Adekiade in a couple months and I'll stay on the case to find evidence. Cheers. Johanssenfs (talk) 20:02, 24 March 2021 (UTC)

No worries, Johanssenfs. If you find something, best make a note of it on the CP article talk page and ping me there. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 01:12, 25 March 2021 (UTC)

Vincent Namatjira

Dear Laterthankyouthink, i've written an article on Vincent for the German wikipedia. I also have contacted "The Monthly" and got the article you just inserted into the article and thus could give the info in my text. If you want to read my article - which by the way was featured this month at the startpage of the German wikipedia in the section "did you know?" and had 9400 clicks - you could use google-translator. Just add the url into the left window - then choose "German to English" and click enter - then at the right window it'll give the url for the translated text. I have written differently than the english article, also named the exhibitions and gave reference-links etc. - perhaps we could add some of it into the english article? I'm not quite sure whether this is a strange question in your ears? Here is the link to the German article: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vincent_Namatjira , Kind regards, --Gyanda (talk) 12:54, 28 February 2021 (UTC)

Hello Gyanda, and thanks very much for alerting me to your article - very interesting. Unfortunately I could not seem to get Google Translate to work using the url (it just shows the same url in the right hand box - I must be doing something wrong), so cannot easily read the whole article, but when I have more time I will look more closely and use the translator bit by bit where necessary. I am happy for you to add anything to the English article, and will no doubt fiddle it with some more myself over time, but I'm working on a bit of a catch-up list at the moment so not sure when I'll get there. Thanks for the reminder though, because there is definitely scope for adding to the English article! Laterthanyouthink (talk) 01:34, 1 March 2021 (UTC)
https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=de&tl=en&u=https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vincent_Namatjira - this is the link that will lead you to the translated article. The url looks the same, but if you choose "German" to "English" and click enter, then in the right window the same url will lead you (if you click on it) to the machine-translated article. Kind regards, --Gyanda (talk) 12:36, 1 March 2021 (UTC)
Ah, I see Gyanda. It doesn't work at all in the translate boxes on the Google page, but going into the Translate app works better. I did try this yesterday, but there was a slight delay on doing the translation, which was slower yesterday and I gave up when I saw the German appear, but I see now that by waiting a bit longer, the English comes up. I will come back to this when I have time. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 05:58, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for sending me the translated page, Gyanda. I will get back to it eventually, but have a long list of things to tidy up or work on still, so not sure when. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 01:14, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
I could send it as a pdf - then you could read it better formated. You could email me and i send it to you. Am now busy with an article for the Dutch wikipedia, so, take your time. Kind regards, --Gyanda (talk) 01:30, 25 March 2021 (UTC)

Redirect categories

Hey, I noticed - and appreciate - you creating redirects such as UNSW Canberra at ADFA. However, I'd appreciate it if you used {{redirect category shell}} to wrap the redirect categories, even when there is only a single category. This allows for potential automatic categorization (though none would currently apply to the redirects you've made), as well as consistency in looks between different redirect pages. Thanks! Elli (talk | contribs) 05:29, 7 March 2021 (UTC)

Hey Elli and thanks for the note. I have created hundreds of redirects and this is the first time I've been alerted to the use of (and reason for) that template, so I will aim to use it in the future. I do use Wugapodes' Capricorn tool for modifying redirects, which I see adds that template automatically, but as I tend to use WP:MAKER to create them initially, it's just quicker to type in the appropriate category/ies. But I will figure out a way to add them more quickly with the category shell as well. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 06:55, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
Laterthanyouthink thanks! It's not a big deal for the redirects you've already created. Also, since you create a lot of redirects, may I suggest you apply for the redirect whitelist, so your redirects are automatically patrolled? Elli (talk | contribs) 06:57, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
(as for quick typing, I've found {{rcat shell}} to be a useful shortcut) Elli (talk | contribs) 06:58, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
Sure - both good ideas, will do, thanks, Elli. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 07:03, 7 March 2021 (UTC)

Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources

Hi. I have made a redirect from Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources to its predecessor Department of Industry, Innovation and Science. I don't write government department articles, but noticed you added the paragraph about the new name, some months after an IP changed the title on the infobox to the new name. My solution is not satisfactory either, but I'm not sure what the "right" fix is from here. --Scott Davis Talk 10:58, 13 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi ScottDavis. Ugh. I loathe working with government departments too. I suppose there should be separate articles for the old one and the new, but it's not going to be authored by me in the near future. Thanks for letting me know though. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 11:07, 13 March 2021 (UTC)

Muslims in Bendigo

Hi, I don't see why we have to state the total when the percentage is already included, and why Islam is broken down by nationality. The only reason I can think of is to make a political point. "See how many there are? Of course they deserve a mosque". Am I wrong? Not that I disagree, but it's irrelevant. All that's required here is a simple percentage. All demographics sections use percentage rather than total. - HappyWaldo (talk) 02:19, 30 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi HappyWaldo. I think this discussion belongs on the talk page of that article, but I'll explain here and perhaps it can be copied there later. When I was fixing the citations there, I found that the numbers and percentages did not correlate - presumably because of an increase in recent years, or possibly because (as per the census notes), the religion counts are not necessarily accurate or reliable. If you work out .05% of the 2016 population, it's around 46; of the 2019 estimate (118,093), it's 59. This is clearly at odds with the 500 mentioned in the article and as I see it, the number is relevant to the construction of the mosque which serves their religious needs. How it is is interpreted is irrelevant - one could react with "How silly - all that fuss over 500 Muslims?", or "OMG, 500 Muslims! They're taking over!". It is not our business to interpret, nor to put in the OR on the numbers as I've just outlined. However, do what you will. It's all pretty trivial; I was only trying to link up the disparate mentions of the protests scattered throughout other articles, and it obviously needed mention in the Bendigo one. I found a different target for a redirect to the mosque protests (at which I was alerted that there is a draft article for the same topic - although I doubt that will see the light of day). Laterthanyouthink (talk) 02:41, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
It's 0.5%, not .05%, perhaps that explains the discrepancy :-) I think we should stick to percentage, for the sake of consistency and concision. We should also avoid WP:RECENTISM. Maybe I'm wrong, but in history books, I doubt the protests will be anything but a footnote to the construction of the mosque itself. That's what I tried to emphasise in my edit. - HappyWaldo (talk) 02:52, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
Oh, sorry, HappyWaldo, it was late and I was tired when I was looking those figures on my tablet last night, and didn't think to go back and check them today. That's fine, whatever. Agree, the protests were a minor footnote with regard to Bendigo, although of more significance to the mobilisation efforts of far-right extremists in Australia, which is where the target now points. Please retain the link in the Bendigo article though. Readers could potentially look at that article first when looking for info on the protests. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 03:16, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
All good. The link to the protests has been retained. - HappyWaldo (talk) 11:49, 30 March 2021 (UTC)

Thanks, Bacondrum. Not an area I relish working in, but I saw a need to move some of the terrorism-related stuff into a new article, and then kept coming across yet more groups I hadn't heard of... Still have a bit more tidying to do, and will post something on the talk pages there when I get to the end of this round. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 02:31, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
Indeed, vile subject matter, but I still find it interesting. Bacondrum 03:35, 3 April 2021 (UTC)

Edit war at the Kabi page

hi, just on the side, I had a look at Dianekmt talk page, no discussions at the time she added her article to the then empty Kabi page, which might have been redirected already at the time. Its also for me difficult to distinguish who has more right to do things on here and who not, who is independent but doesn't explain, and who is violating. You know each other and also see, we don't. So with that status Dianekmt is deeply hurt and contacted Alex Lum Vice President - Wikimedia Australia who gave her the advise and explained how to delete the redirect and reestablish the page. I received that email from her and acted on it. Wikigetsme123 (talk) 08:21, 12 April 2021 (UTC)

Wikigetsme123, firstly, I should point out that my talk page is also a public page, and is watched by other editors. I am currently busy with another series of articles (not to mention real life!) and just don't have the time to dig really deeply into this issue at the moment. I have been contributing as best I can over several hours I've spent looking at the sources, and reading and adding to both the article itself and the discussion on the Gubbi Gubbi talk page, to try to clarify things. I do not know the other editors, but I'm almost 100% certain that none of them belong to any Aboriginal Australian nation, because there are extremely few on Wikipedia. I don't know Alex Lum or why he would give that advice without knowing more or participating in the discussion, unless he was giving purely technical advice. I can only suggest that you explain to Diane that there is no participation by any involved parties? Also, it's best to keep the discussion on the talk page of the article. It still seems to me that there have been crossed wires in the argument. None of us editors have any more rights than others (apart from administrators, who are not at this stage involved), but those with more experience have been trying to explain how things work on Wikipedia. Have you had a read through the links in the welcome panel on your talk page? WP:CON might also be useful. It is not at all unusual for new editors' pages to be deleted, so Diane should not take this personally. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 08:53, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
Hi, don't get that wrong, I am/we are really thankful and especially for your contribution and time invested! Was just trying to explain how it happened and where we came from, we know better now. Wikigetsme123 (talk) 02:39, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
Hi, Wikigetsme123, no worries at all, I do understand. This issue concerns me because Wikipedia needs to be mindful of the people it is representing in articles. Experienced editors generally try to represent all valid points of view, and Australian editors try to be mindful of cultural sensitivities, so we do want to get this right. I have just written another long screed on the talk page, after hearing back from the linguists yesterday. I hope it makes sense. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 07:22, 14 April 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for your message

Thanks for your message. As far as I can tell an article title is mostly a way to navigate to a particular article. I care about the content of articles and verification, but article titles are generally low down my interests. As Australian law, Australian laws, Law of Australia, Laws of Australia, Australian legal system and Legal system of Australia all point to the same article, I don't much care which is the final resting place. There are exceptions, particularly where its the name of a person or concerns the conduct of a person. Sorry I can't be of more help --Find bruce (talk) 04:41, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

No worries, Find bruce - I just thought that you may be interested in the discussion, as it related to law, and may have a preference, so alerted you to it. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 03:04, 22 April 2021 (UTC)

Mc Coll et al. Problem

Hello, you are right. I misinterpreted some parts of the study after looking at it again. I will revert my edits. I also found that more recent studies found contradicting evidence (such as Boer et al. 2020). I am sorry. Could you please accepted the reverted version in Negrito. Thank you for understanding. Have a nice day.213.162.73.136 (talk) 08:28, 23 April 2021 (UTC)

No worries, and thanks for the self-reversion and notes. I have responded on your talk page. I don't have the reviewer permission to accept that reversion, but I'm sure someone else will soon. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 09:13, 23 April 2021 (UTC)

Samuel Vestey, 3rd Baron Vestey

Hi, Last year you added an "update needed" banner to the section "Business career" of Samuel Vestey, 3rd Baron Vestey. I note you and others have done multiple edits to the article since (including around his death). Is the banner still needed and what else do you think still needs updating?— Rod talk 15:10, 4 May 2021 (UTC)

Hi Rodw. I have just had a look at the version as I left it, and there has been no update to that section since then. I was mainly editing details around the Gurindji Strike, which is historical, but as there's nothing else mentioned about his career apart from a bit relating to the 1990s, I thought something else needed to be added. Perhaps there is nothing else to add (I don't have time to look right now, having been away and trying to pick up other pieces), but it looks a little thin the way it is. Le Flagey

Do you have a source saying Flagey Building? Like Empire State Building. Flagey (building)? - Why not just keep as it was? You'd probably mot translate you name when going to a different country. - I have no time to check, - if you have a source fine. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:31, 8 May 2021 (UTC)

Hi Gerda Arendt. Yes, there are several sources, including the website of the cultural centre itself. I would not just create my own translation. :-). Laterthanyouthink (talk) 08:49, 8 May 2021 (UTC)
Fine then, but the website of the topic is often a lousy source, - thinking specifically of the Evangelische Kirche in Deutschland, who translate their name into Evangelical instead of Protestant, - no idea if they really don't know that it can mean related to Evangelicalism. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:53, 8 May 2021 (UTC)

I'll be coming back to it tomorrow, and will ensure that it's widely used (per WP:ENGLISH). Laterthanyouthink (talk) 09:12, 8 May 2021 (UTC)

Terrorism Research Initiative moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Terrorism Research Initiative, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. The "1865?" ship you have listed at the list of ships named Lalla Rookh appears to have been built in 1864. What do you think? Mjroots (talk) 07:48, 12 June 2021 (UTC)

Ooh yes, good find, Mjroots! I'd say those have to be a match, with mention of Captain Makin. Thanks! Will you update, or shall I? Laterthanyouthink (talk) 08:11, 12 June 2021 (UTC)

Gould's mouse

Thanks for the update [1]. However, the German wikipedia already had (English) references about its rediscovery in 2020. The article still mentions its extinct status in the categories. Also in [2]. Shouldn't they be updated as well? --VanBuren (talk) 10:57, 29 June 2021 (UTC)

@VanBuren: - the short answer is, I don't know. I did that in a hurry on my tablet this morning, and haven't had much to do with Wikispecies, and nor do I know the protocol when an out-of-date IUCN assessment says one thing and a scientific study says something else... I will look into it tomorrow if I have time, and/or pose the question on the article talk page perhaps. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 11:10, 29 June 2021 (UTC)
@VanBuren: p.s. I had a quick look at the German wiki, found the source, which is a PhD thesis by the principal author of the 2021 study, so added that, thank you. I would assume that the actual study have had to be published before any change of status, but I'm not sure about the peer review process in matters like this, or what it takes to become accepted fact. I'll drop a note to the IUCN, anyway. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 11:31, 29 June 2021 (UTC)

Carpets case

It's an interesting case and you have summarised it well. It didn't decide any great legal principle - the copying was pretty blatant : I assume you have seen the images & carpet at page 13 of Janke. Instead it's importance was a practical one of enforcing the copyright of individual first nations artists. I have tidied up a couple of references in accordance with the Australian Legal Style Guide, but that's a minor issue. You could certainly justify a stand alone article, the approach taken in relation to Australian case articles is the title would be Milpurrurru v Indofurn Pty Ltd and the layout would be something like Wotton v Queensland (No 5). Have you looked at the T-Shirts case yet? (Bulun Bulun v R & T Textiles Pty Ltd [1998] FCA 1082) highlighted a shortcoming of the application of copyright law as it applies to the individual artist and not to the Ganalbingu people whose stories were reproduced in the work. --Find bruce (talk) 06:38, 22 July 2021 (UTC)

Thanks, Find bruce, that's very helpful. I tried, admittedly not at great length, to find the case in AustLII but couldn't turn it up (and no wonder, now that I see the differences in name and numbering!), and haven't familiarised myself with the legal citing yet although seen it in passing. I am trying to work through the various tabs I have open and the related articles first, but will aim to get back to creating that article. I came across mention of the T-shirt case but didn't drill down into it. The wider topic is interesting, about how the various types of legislation don't fully cover what is regarded as Indigenous cultural heritage, communal moral rights, etc. and Janke seems to be a leading light in that sphere. It's really useful to have your legal perspective and advice, much appreciated. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 08:49, 22 July 2021 (UTC)
Update, Find bruce - if and when you care to have a look at the article I've created, any comments and suggestions are welcome. I added a bit more detail than the section, but was going to leave it there for now, with too much else on my plate. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 11:26, 9 August 2021 (UTC)

Hi Pete. I'm not sure what your question is - can you explain at that talk page, please? Laterthanyouthink (talk) 02:45, 3 August 2021 (UTC)
There doesn't seem to be any connection with the article subject. Why the peculiar choice of words? --Pete (talk) 02:47, 3 August 2021 (UTC)

Pompilidae

Why have you added two additional subfamilies and used Pitts,, Wasbauer & Von Dohlen 2005 as the citation? From the abstract they confirmed that there were four subfamilies

“Notocyphinae sensu Shimizu (1994) was nested within Pompilinae and that Epipompilinae sensu Shimizu (1994) was nested within Ctenocerinae”
“strict consensus tree gave the following relationships: (Ceropalinae + (Pepsinae + (Ctenocerinae + Pompilinae))).”

Quetzal1964 (talk) 13:19, 3 August 2021 (UTC)

Hi Quetzal1964. I didn't add any new subfamilies or citations. All I did was slightly reformat what it already said in the Distribution section (and the lead) and copy the other two subfamilies into the infobox. Please write on that article's talk page if there's an issue related to the article, so it's there for others to see, or feel free to rewrite if the content doesn't match the source. (I didn't even look at the source, as there was no need to for the small change I made.) Laterthanyouthink (talk) 13:37, 3 August 2021 (UTC)
Good answer and well suggested, turns out that Waichert et al 2015 revised the taxonomy so I have revised the article in accordance with their classification.Quetzal1964 (talk) 17:11, 3 August 2021 (UTC)
No worries, Quetzal1964. I only happened upon that page en route to documenting three new species, and thought it looked contradictory and difficult to read. Thanks for sorting that out. I think I have another useful citation which I'll add to the article or talk page if it checks out. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 01:43, 4 August 2021 (UTC)

4A Centre

Hello! I restored my edits on Draft:4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art which you had reverted, since they help. I am not sure if you know this, but it is notoriously difficult to get an article on a gallery published, since the reviews of shows held there count as coverage on the artists and not on the gallery itself. From the looks of it, this article has a similar notability problem as most sourcing is primary. I will poke around and see if I can find some sources. --- Possibly 01:19, 20 September 2021 (UTC)

Hi Possibly I am a fairly experienced editor who has had many articles published. I only picked up this one in the draft stage because I was going to create one myself and found that there had already been a draft created. This is clearly a notable gallery, with many references to it already in other articles on Wikipedia and on the internet, and major exhibitions help to establish notability as well as providing links to artists who have articles already created or likely to be created in the future. I left the list of directors created by the former editor because I intend to come back to that, either adding more, with sources, or excising what is not necessary in the final version. I have also left lots of red links for the moment, which will be reduced before the final version. I have quite a lot of other sources I am working through so I would prefer it if you would not edit the draft while I am actively working on it. It is not necessary to chop bits out at this point - it has not been submitted yet. You are welcome to have another look at it once I have finished my initial round of work on it, and edit further or discuss further changes. (p.s. Tech problems keep preventing saving and are causing hitches in all my editing at the moment.) Laterthanyouthink (talk) 01:46, 20 September 2021 (UTC)
Well, I added several sources. It's still not likely to pass notability, as there is very little independent and significant coverage on the gallery itself. This problem with getting galleries onto WP has been discussed in depth; I can track down the link if you are interested. Regarding my most recent edits, you were not actively working on it just now, which is why I added sources. I wanted to ask, do you have any COI on the Copyright agency article, or on this one? Thanks. --- Possibly 01:54, 20 September 2021 (UTC)
Here is that discussion, which found no concensus for easing up on the NCORP requirements for galleries, even though there is usually little in terms of WP:SIGCOV written about well-known galleries. --- Possibly 02:05, 20 September 2021 (UTC)
Ok Thanks, Possibly, I will have a look. Right now I am on the verge of taking a break, if these tech problems don't resolve. My earlier (2nd) response to you seems to have got lost completely, and trying to save the draft is problematical. No, of course I don't have COI on (I assume you mean) Copyright Agency Ltd, or A4. I don't even live in NSW, and only stumbled across A4 when I was working on something else. You can see that I removed a whole lot of bumf about Copyright Agency Ltd that was in the Copyright agency article (and which looked much like a copyvio, and that article needs sourcing, but that's a rabbit-hole I won't go down now). I am constantly doing cleanups as I encounter side-issues to other articles as I am working on another one, which slows me down but I believe contributes to the overall improvement of Wikipedia. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 02:20, 20 September 2021 (UTC)
Ok Thanks for that. What are the tech problems? The Wikipedia servers are working fine here in Canada... I guess we are on opposite sides of the Commonwealth. --- Possibly 02:24, 20 September 2021 (UTC)
Possibly, I've only had a brief glance at the discussion, but its focus seems to be mainly on commercial galleries, and A4 is much more than that. It is an association and gallery, partly funded by governments. I don't know what's causing the tech problems (could be my end), but when I try to preview it just hangs for ages and then gives a Wiki tech problem notice, only succeeding after multiple attempts. I think it might be improving now, but I have to head out soon anyway for a while. I will let you know when I've got to a point where I'm happy for you to re-review, if that suits you? Laterthanyouthink (talk) 02:56, 20 September 2021 (UTC) p.s. Also having trouble on other interactive websites, so it's not just Wikpedia! Very frustrating. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 03:00, 20 September 2021 (UTC)

@Possibly: It turned out to be my internet connectivity problem. I've been adding to the article over the past couple of days and just resubmitted it, intending to do a last proof-read tomorrow. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 10:30, 22 September 2021 (UTC)

October 2021

Dear Laterthanyouthink,

I see you reverted my additions to the Kuku Yalanjis in name of a neutral point of view. If we accept your understanding and use of this position as unilaterally and tacitly formulated by you then, comparatively speaking, for instance, - we should not speak about any history of the Germans and Germany before the Australians contacted them in the 20th c - we ought to limit any history of the Germans to that of their contacts with Australians - we would need to limit any discussion of German langauge and culture to Australian scholars' monographs on these subjects - we would need to deny and disregard the existence of Chinese culture and language prior to the founding of the PRC in 1949 - we should see the ethnic cleansing of Turks/Muslims from Greece and Bulgaria as 'removals' - while the wartime genocide of Jews we should present as 'mass murders.'

Hence, this kind of neutral point of view is nothing other than: - denial of genocide and ethnic cleansing - denial of any pre-invasion history to the Kuku Yalanjis - approval of forced assimilation - approval of depriving the Kuku Yalanjis of agency.

Such attitudes in writing about an ethnic group/nation are indicative of racism and (cultural) imperialism. If in doubt of what I am proposing, try to apply this supposedly 'neutral point of view' to writing about history, languages and cultures of European nations and states. And then see what other Wikipedians may think.

I am not going to engage in any eitorial sparring enjoy this specific kind of self-serving western 'neutrality' that justified cocnentration camp-like compulsory boarding schools for 'natives' children,' snatched from their parents to 'civilize' into 'white fellas.' Question

Hi there, I noticed that you have made a few edits on the 'Australian Aboriginal Progress Association' article and was wondering if you could help me out. After doing some research I noticed that the title of the organisation is actually 'Australian Aboriginal Progressive Association', rather than 'progress'. Could you confirm or deny this by any chance? As the sources I have found have led me to believe the title of the article is wrong but just thought I'd check with another user. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bwal6418 (talkcontribs) 11:18, 3 December 2021 (UTC)

Hi Bwal6418, good pickup, thanks for that. A quick look tells me that a lot of reliable sources across the internet (including two cited by the article) use this name, and only one citation in the article, less likely to be trustworthy, uses the current article name. I will move the article now and come back to it later with a few more citations I just found. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 11:27, 3 December 2021 (UTC)

South Australian national parks

Hey Laterthanyouthink, thanks for creating these new national park articles :) I'm just in the process of trying to update these on Wikipedia's sister site Wikivoyage, and so your updates on Wikipedia really helps. SHB2000 (talk) 04:40, 22 December 2021 (UTC)

No worries, SHB2000 - glad to hear that someone is finding them useful! Some of the work is quite tedious, ensuring that I've managed to cover all the incoming links, updated categories, etc. Still a work in progress but I hope to get the bulk of it finished today. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 04:47, 22 December 2021 (UTC)
Certainly is. Nevertheless, was certainly not expecting these new national parks. SHB2000 (talk) 04:54, 22 December 2021 (UTC)
No, SHB2000, neither did I, although not sure exactly how it will affect management of the parks. The Wapma Thura one is taking a bit of working out as to what exactly it covers, and no dedicated web page as yet. Just spent ages looking at maps to figure out what is where! Also just discovered another list which is going to need updating... Laterthanyouthink (talk) 05:48, 22 December 2021 (UTC)
The news article by the SA government isn't very helpful either. At least the SA parks website has some info on Nilpena-Ediacara, but sadly little on the others. SHB2000 (talk) 05:58, 22 December 2021 (UTC)
Yes, thanks,SHB2000 - I've been working off that one, but its main object seems to be self-promotion rather than supplying useful information. Hopefully more will turn up over time. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 06:03, 22 December 2021 (UTC)
Yeah, hope so. SHB2000 (talk) 06:04, 22 December 2021 (UTC)
I just discovered these two pages on SA Parks about Wapma Thura: [3] and [4]. So it seems like SA parks have partially started. SHB2000 (talk) 06:09, 22 December 2021 (UTC)

Oh yes SHB2000 - thanks again - I had discovered them and have the tabs open, planning to come back to them! With these fiddly bits taking so long, I'm not confident I'm going to finish today, having some real life to attend to as well... Laterthanyouthink (talk) 06:40, 22 December 2021 (UTC)

SHB2000, I think (hope) I have now come to the end of all I need to do on the current changes. Please feel free to let me know, or make corrections or updates if you spot any. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 10:51, 22 December 2021 (UTC)
Yeah thanks for the changes. I'll fix any if I happen to come across any. SHB2000 (talk) 10:57, 22 December 2021 (UTC)

Australian Aboriginal Progressive Association Image

Hey Laterthanyouthink, I'm trying to locate an image I could use for the Australian Aboriginal Progressive Association article. I'm having trouble finding images not restricted by copyright. I've tried flickr and the like, but I was wondering if you could point me in the right direction? Thank you! Bwal6418 (talk) 11:43, 4 January 2022 (UTC)Bwal6418

Hey Bwal6418, it looks as if you've made some good progress on that article - well done! Yes, it's often difficult finding usable images, I find. I usually start with state or national library and archives collections, if it's historical. I looked for photos of Fred Maynard but at this point have only come across the rather grainy one in here and here on the NMA site, and you would have to write to them to ask whether it's out of copyright, as there is no information there. However, the AAPA logo in the same articles should be usable, per WP:LOGO, so you could upload that (and if you like put it within an infobox (see Template:Infobox organization). Let me know if you need further help (you can also ping me on that talk page if you like, using the template I've used in this message to ping you) - I'll be back later. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 01:19, 5 January 2022 (UTC)
Awesome, thanks so much for your help! I've put the logo in an infobox and I think thats all worked fine. Let me know if theres anything I've done wrong. Thanks again. Bwal6418 (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 02:19, 5 January 2022 (UTC)
No worries, Bwal6418 - that's great. I did a bit of minor copyediting earlier (watch WP:REFSPACE) and am happy to have another look when you're finished, but at a quick glance it looks fine. "death of George Floyd" vs. "murder of George Floyd"

Hi, I just wanted to disagree with your reversion of my edit on Hillsong Church UK. At the time of Clarke's comments (Sunday, May 31), enough investigations into Floyd's murder had been completed for Chauvin to have been arrested and charged (on Thursday, May 29) with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. When the prosecutor charged Chauvin, and when the jury later convicted him, they did not say "this otherwise benign death from May 2020 has now retroactively been transmuted into a murder". Rather, their ruling recognized and affirmed that Floyd's murder was indeed a murder at the time when it happened. This may seem like splitting epistomological hairs, but I feel the distinction is important. I don't think it makes sense either to emphasize "the death for which Chauvin would later be convicted of murder": all convicted murderers have a delay between when they commit the murder and when the jury convicts them. It would require excessive linguistic gymnastics such as "refusing to comment on the murder of George Floyd, for which Chauvin had already been charged but not yet convicted" or "refusing to comment on the death of George Floyd that a jury would later rule to be murder". This additional phrasing might add some temporal precision, but only at the expense of clarity: the focus is taken away from Clarke's unwillingness to comment on Floyd's murder.

And for what it's worth, the wikilink was pointed to murder of George Floyd; when you reverted it, it pointed to "death of George Floyd", which is a redirect to "murder of George Floyd". I'm happy to discuss this further, of course.-Ich (talk) 14:58, 6 February 2022 (UTC)

Hi Ich. Sure, I understand your objection, but I thought that the death redirect (which I did realise targeted the article, and am aware of the title) was more appropriate relating to this particular reference at the time. I must admit I did not check the date of the actual charge so that does lend weight to your argument, although there are other hairs to be split over this... This discussion would be better on the talk page of the article though, for future reference, and someone has reverted it again to your version. Can you copy some of what you've written above over there, please? Laterthanyouthink (talk) 02:03, 7 February 2022 (UTC)

An apology

Hello, I apologize for my edits to Menzies/Hawk/Howard governments. I saw quite a few editors mass delete unsourced content and decided to follow what they were doing. However, after reading the MoS in terms of removing content, I realized I was mistaken. Ak-eater06 (talk) 02:16, 23 February 2022 (UTC)

Hello Ak-eater06. No worries, and thanks for taking the trouble to apologise. I think they're all fixed now. (It's fine to remove unsourced personal info about living people, especially if trivial, related to their family or a DOB - but not that kind of general historical content, where it is almost certainly legit but just not well cited.) We all live and learn! Laterthanyouthink (talk) 02:45, 23 February 2022 (UTC)

Sorry

Use of news reports in science articles

Hi, please note that it is very rarely acceptable to use news or popular-science web reports as citations in science articles. Some of those are garbled; if they have any merit, it is always better to cite the research reports that the news was based on. The more reputable outlets provide links to the original authors (and sometimes even to the research reports). Of course it is always possible to search for the species and mechanisms involved to locate the actual science involved. Many thanks for your understanding, Chiswick Chap (talk) 10:10, 7 March 2022 (UTC)

Okay, Chiswick Chap. I added the source once as extra reading, based on the logic that most Wikipedia readers are not scientists and find these more accessible, and also often the listed sources are not available online. I also used the source to to add a few bits to other articles that did not contain those particular facts. I do know the source as a reliable one, and it does link to several studies. I can go back and add the links to the original studies tomorrow, but have run out of time for tonight. I have used this type of popular science type article quite a bit in the past and nobody has ever complained about my changes, but I will keep this in mind in the future. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 10:27, 7 March 2022 (UTC)
Many thanks for that. I'll note in passing that we already had a scientific source for mimicry in Lampsilis; I've found and added another, and we can do the same for the other species. I've removed the ABC source wherever I found it as unsuitable, and very possibly misleading. Texts of the kind "it is thought [by unnamed and untraceable folk] that" are not encyclopedic. Scholars of mimicry and camouflage have disputed claims about such matters as eyespots supposedly making moths look like the staring eyes of owls - it's quite unclear how that might evolve, and there's no evidence in its favour (not a single experimental study, unless one has appeared very recently). There's equally no evidence at all, for instance, that the death's head hawk moth is mimicking a human corpse, and again, in truth it seems a most unlikely thing to evolve. I think we just need to be rather careful in science articles, especially when adding material that has "exciting" popular connotations. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 10:35, 7 March 2022 (UTC)

Institute of Modern Art

Hi, I notice your recent creation of Institute of Modern Art. The references you use are links to their website, which is not independent information. I’m happy to collaborate to amend that with research, but can’t just now. Are you able to make a start on that please? Cheers,

Jamesmcardle(talk) 10:44, 12 March 2022 (UTC)

Hi Jamesmcardle. Thanks for your note. Not all of my citations were from the website, and as noted in my edit summary, I have more to follow. In the meantime was fixing up various redirects and articles tangentially related to the article (such as the art prize, which probably needs carving off and I have since found more on that), and/or hit upon by accident and leading to a few other completely unrelated things needing clarification or clean-up. It's a slow process and I ran out of time and energy, and I work on the assumption that something is better than nothing, hence publish so that others can see that it exists. Wikipedia is all a work-in-progress! Cheers. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 02:47, 13 March 2022 (UTC)
I'll keep chipping away at it too. All the best. Jamesmcardle(talk) 04:50, 13 March 2022 (UTC)
Yes, Jamesmcardle, I see that you have added quite a lot, so thank you. I will just review the refs I have tabs open for and then try to work out what do do about that prize (for which I also have more info now). Best wishes. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 05:19, 13 March 2022 (UTC)
Thanks Laterthanyouthink that will be great! Not a lot in Newspapers.com so more digging in the WP library and elsewhere required to add more here on the various directors and significant exhibitions, publications, conferences etc. Doing a bit of back-tracing of info from the website which is not footnoted. To have a separate article on the prize, which is a big deal, is warranted. Will keep returning to do more. Cheers, Jamesmcardle(talk) 07:07, 13 March 2022 (UTC)
I'm sure there's more, but I got an article up on the art prize today, jamesmcardle. I keep forgetting to look in the WP Library. But it's too hot to continue right now! Laterthanyouthink (talk) 05:44, 14 March 2022 (UTC)

Death of Kumanjayi Walker

Hi Laterthanyouthink!! How are you going? I love your work on this platform and I'm regretful that we don't chat more. Just thought you would like to have a look at the Death of Kumanjayi Walker article (currently entitled Death of Arnold Walker) and see what you think. I've tried to add to it with constructive edits but they keep getting reverted, I would regard your input as highly valuable. I understand if your busy doing other things but I think it's definitely worth getting involved in this article to get a bit of level-headed consensus. Thanks heaps! Dippiljemmy (talk) 23:10, 20 March 2022 (UTC)

Hi Dippiljemmy and thanks for your note. I'm happy to have a look at the article but cannot guarantee that I'll get there today. I am just in the middle of trying to update info across several related topics and don't want to lose track, and a few other things awaiting my attention, and have to head out for a while soon. My first thought is that I'd never heard of Arnold Walker... but I'll ping you on the talk page of the article when I get there, hopefully later today. You could also post at the Australian Wikipedians' notice board if you want to try to bring in a few more editors? Cheers. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 01:12, 21 March 2022 (UTC)
Great! Thanks so much! Dippiljemmy (talk) 01:40, 21 March 2022 (UTC)
Thanks so much for your contributions, really appreciate it. You bring a professional quality to these sort of topics. It will be very interesting to see how the article (and the actual reality of the situation, ie. coroner's inquest etc.) develops over time :) Dippiljemmy (talk) 06:57, 25 March 2022 (UTC)
No worries, Dippiljemmy. I hope to get back to it in the next few days, as I haven't really had enough time to give it my full attention as yet. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 10:29, 25 March 2022 (UTC)

Your query

Hello, in this edit you indicated that owner does not show in the infobox. The reason it does not show is that {{Infobox rugby league club}} does not have owner as a parameter. If you want it added then discuss on the templates talk page. Keith D (talk) 19:47, 3 May 2022 (UTC)

Oh, thanks for that, Keith D. I was just trying do a minor fix and add a citation because that page was on my watch list for some reason and the change by an IP editor warranted checking. Then didn't have time to dig further about the infobox issue, being on my slow tablet, so just noted it in the edit summary. Not knowing anything about rugby clubs, I think I'll leave that one to others! Thanks for following up though. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 22:18, 3 May 2022 (UTC)

Indigenous placenames debate

Hi there, there is a discussion raging at the moment that will hopefully lead to a formal end to the debate and edit warring around inclusion of Aboriginal placenames in articles. I have greatly appreciated your input before on this issue and if you have the energy it'd be great to have your contribution. Noticeboard — Preceding unsigned comment added by Poketama (talkcontribs) 13:02, 4 May 2022 (UTC)

Hi Poketama and thanks for the heads-up. I did put a brief 2 cents in the other day, but actually don't have the time/energy at the moment to give such an important and complex topic my full attention (hence sticking to a few less contentious and shortish edits here and there at the moment). It looks as if a few things are being worked out and some consensus arrived at now, but I will go back to it if/when the moment arises. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 03:22, 8 May 2022 (UTC)

DAB

Just to let you know it's not good form to be changing links to an article before consensus is reached on the proposed move. This particular one is probably uncontroversial, but its the sort of thing people can get their noses out of joint over. Renaming is the sort of task that AWB is really good for & if consensus is reached, as I expect it will be, I'm happy to run it. --Find bruce (talk) 22:43, 7 May 2022 (UTC)

Okay, Find bruce. I have moved pages myself in the past and didn't really consider this one controversial (having just replaced a "polititian" redirect with the correct spelling), as the links still point to the same person - but thanks for the heads-up and offer of support. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 03:25, 8 May 2022 (UTC)

Question

Is it against the rules to remove red links? Cause no one but you seemed to have an issue. I remove them because I think there is "no need" to have a link there if it's not linking to anything. 2600:1702:2A40:3E40:D56:C93E:5486:4FFD (talk) 23:11, 8 May 2022 (UTC)

I cannot remember your example, but if you have a look at WP:RED, you will see that red links are often included for a reason, and when an article is created on the topic, the links are already in place. Unless there is definitely no chance that an article might be created, or the red link is on a disambiguation page and does not also include a blue link, there is no need to remove them routinely. Hope that helps. :-) Laterthanyouthink (talk) 02:43, 9 May 2022 (UTC)

Your edit of the Statement from the Heart Page

Hi Laterthanyouthink, Just wanted to discuss your removal of an objection from the Statement from the Heart page. You gave the justification as 'editorialising'. Please note that it is historical that indigenous relationships to land are not based in 'ownership of the soil'. And that land ownership is a market construct which has caused tremendous hard and alienation to dispossessed communities. It is an idea that is objectionable to many indigenous people - as demonstrated by the Oodgeroo Noonuccal quote provided. This objection is historical, consistent with core indigenous belief, and certainly not 'editorialising' or based on some sort of subjective opinion. I'd ask that you refrain from removing it again but I'm happy to discuss. — Preceding unsigned comment added by EarthCommoner (talkcontribs) 03:13, 23 May 2022 (UTC)

Hi EarthCommoner. The issue is its relevance to the topic, which has to exist in cited sources stating the connection, since the existence of the Uluru Statement. However please take the whole discussion to the talk page of that article, so that other editors can participate. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 03:18, 23 May 2022 (UTC)

Hi Laterthanyouthink. Thank you for creating Gallipoli Art Prize, which I just reviewed. I reworded part to remove a short stretch of copied or only slightly altered text. The longest verbatim copied material was 12 words long. I see you've received prior warnings to attend more carefully to your paraphrasing. I prefer not to template the regulars, but please count this among the notices you've received. It would help if you could review your recent article creations or added text to ensure nothing was copied. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 17:55, 24 June 2022 (UTC)

Thanks, Firefangledfeathers. It was one of those ones I did on the run while editing something else, with little to say about it so difficult to avoid repetition, but I'll keep an eye on my paraphrasing. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 01:55, 2 July 2022 (UTC)

On Media Bias Fact Check

I reverted this edit, MBFC is generally unreliable per the Perennial sources list. Many thanks! VickKiang (talk) 03:46, 9 July 2022 (UTC)

Okay, no worries, VickKiang, I didn't realise it was a deprecated source. Thanks for letting me know. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 04:06, 9 July 2022 (UTC)
It isn't deprecated, but it's still generally unreliable, meaning Editors show consensus that the source is questionable in most cases. The source may lack an editorial team, have a poor reputation for fact-checking, fail to correct errors, be self-published, or present user-generated content, so I don't think mentioning that for Cosmos is notable enough. Many thanks! VickKiang (talk) 04:29, 9 July 2022 (UTC)

About "Steven McGregor"

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give "Steven McGregor" a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Steven McGregor. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. GedUK  09:06, 15 July 2022 (UTC)

Oh, didn't realise it would leave a template! I've deleted your version of Steven McGregor, then moved the one with quotes on top of that. That just keeps the attributions and history. Admitedly, it was just one edit by you in each case, but just keeping it to the rules! GedUK  09:10, 15 July 2022 (UTC)
No worries, and thanks, Ged UK. This happened once before, and I don't recall what I did that time. I wondered about doing a move but thought deletion may be cleaner, as I had only just created it. I usually just do a move if an article needs to move to a new name. Will try to remember if it happens again! (It occurred because I'd done a search on the name, and I used the red link created by the search page, without noticing that it had added the quotes.) Australia LTA

Regarding the LTA from Australia that we've monitored in the past, a new range was brought to my attention; after blocking that range, a named account complained to me that was clearly the same user editing from that range; see User_talk:Victorianchan#Block_evasion. OhNoitsJamie Talk 13:01, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

Hmmm, interesting, Ohnoitsjamie. The rather belligerent attitude, edit summaries and style of editing certainly look similar, although the subject matter they've been editing is different this time. Good catch though! Laterthanyouthink (talk) 02:28, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
That threw me off a bit at first as well, until I realized they'd taken to copying large chunks of text wholesale to avoid the telltale tone issues from previous edits. The response to the block was the icing on the cake. (Note that User:DanCherek gets full credit for spotting the IP in the first place, which uncovered the named account). OhNoitsJamie Talk 02:58, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
Yes, I'm sure you're right. Well done to DanCherek as well, in that case! Laterthanyouthink (talk) 04:42, 20 July 2022 (UTC)

YouGov

Hi Laterthanyouthink,

I saw that you recently contributed to the article on YouGov, and wondered if I could ask your advice on a related matter. I am an employee at the company and noticed that the section titled Allegations of poll manipulation is slightly out of date. As you may be aware, in the time since this section was written and edited, Chris Curtis has clarified his initial statements somewhat, which was also covered in tier one media in the UK.

I’d appreciate your thoughts on adding in a few words to reflect this update, which I have tried to code up below. What do you think?

‘’Curtis, on 9 June 2022 using his own Twitter account clarified his earlier statements, posting that he accepts that the results “were pulled because of concerns other members of the team had about the methodology”. [1] He also confirmed that he accepted that Zahawi had not played any role in the decision to pull the initial results.’’ [2]

Looking forward to any assistance and guidance you can share.

Hi Asfarmer. Thanks for your note. It's better to put discussion about articles on the article's talk page (and you can ping me or other editors there), but I appreciate that you have not attempted to edit the article yourself, as a COI editor. Sozvezdie (film festival) moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Sozvezdie (film festival), is not suitable as written to remain published. PRAXIDICAE🌈 11:20, 20 August 2022 (UTC)

Hi Praxidicae. I created it after coming across a lot of confusion on a number of pages about the name, with a few pages linking to the defence company of the same name. I know it's not great, but it is now linked to from over a dozen articles. Sources are scarce because I don't read Russian, but I thought it was better to get the stub up there and allow someone who does to find some and add to it. It is likely to languish and be deleted if it remains as a draft, and film festivals are notable. I have now added a few more citations, but as mentioned, they are thin on the ground and relate mainly to prizes won by films and actors there. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 12:33, 20 August 2022 (UTC)
