Disambiguation link notification for April 16
editHi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Summer (Calvin Harris song), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Cameo (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Knife Party discography
editFor what purpose have you deleted the entire unreleased tracks section of Knife Party's discography? Everything was referenced accordingly and gave clarity to unreleased tracks so I see no reason or logic in your decision of it's removal and believe you had no right to make that call. Idensai (talk) 10:05, 22 April 2014 (UTC)
While I agree that you shouldn't believe everything you read on social networking sites, all references came from Rob's verified Twitter account and if not his, Knife Party's official verified Twitter and Facebook pages. I fail to understand what you see as a more reliable source than those directly from the artists themselves. This goes for all of the EDM artists' articles I update (Alvin Risk, Dog Blood, Flume, Kill The Noise, Feed Me, Knife Party, Pendulum, Skrillex). As for the many missing references on the main Knife Party article, I've just updated the entire article with them. Idensai (talk) 13:17, 22 April 2014 (UTC)
You are reading way too much into it, when it says that social networks aren't reliable sources it means unofficial sources, I only ever post references from the artists directly via their official and verified accounts. Idensai (talk) 15:54, 22 April 2014 (UTC)

Institute of Refrigeration
editI was surprised to find that the Institute of Refrigeration page was deleted last week apparently on the whim of the Wikipedia admins and without any reference to people who might be interested in the subject. Comments as to how the page could be improved would be welcome. Deletion by a bolt from the blue is not acceptable. I have read the Wikipedia content guidelines and I don't see any issues with the page. What was the reason for deletion? Please put it back!Dr Fridge (talk) 12:52, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for your quick reply and sorry for my delayed one. No, the Institute of Refrigeration (a UK not-for-profit charity based in London) is not the same thing as the International Institute of Refrigeration (an inter-governmental organisation with 61 member countries and headquartered in Paris). In the discussion page you asked "what makes it notable?" which I guess was a reference to G11 in the criteria for speedy deletion. I thought the content of the page was clear enough on that point - it is a learned society with members all over the world and is the oldest refrigeration institute in the world, founded in 1899. It is a real shame that you didn't flag the proposed deletion to any of the users who had contributed to the page in the time that it was under review. I have contacted Tawker as you suggested and await a response
Thanks for the cheeseburger! :) I'm currently working on the composition section, it would be nice if we could somehow get an OGG sample and music video screenshot for the article though! It should be in top notch condition soon - I'm working on it! —CoolMarc 19:01, 25 April 2014 (UTC)

- You have to be the most arrogant user I have ever encountered in six years of being here. "you help for my page" - disgusting - you do not own pages and I most certainly am not being told what to do! I am not an administrator, either, and neither are you. Learn to write - that that is not a policy disgusts me and I will be drafting an essay when I am in a better mood - read this for what an administrator is, read this for instructions on how to sign your posts and kindly have the decency to wait until someone with no conflict of interest thinks Biswas is notable and writes about it here.--Launchballer 11:01, 26 April 2014 (UTC)
- I will be forwarding this dialogue to an Admin page, for the way in which an IP (apparent new user) was treated, who needed direction regarding a variety of WP policies (WP:NOTE, WP:WWIN, etc.), none of which you provide. You did, however, provide a brilliant example of how we are not expected to treat anyone here (see [1]). Le Prof Leprof 7272 (talk) 20:57, 16 May 2014 (UTC)

- The issue is not whether the request should be denied (a matter about which we all will likely agree), but whether such incivility and diatribes are to be the rule of the day in communicating with new users, and in general. The matter of that (civility, propriety) is thankfully not yours to adjudicate, and as a friend of young Launch, I trust you will excuse yourself from any administrative role when it comes up. That he sought you out makes pre-existing relationship, and bias, quite clear. Le Prof Leprof 7272 (talk) 20:59, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
- Call me arrogant, but if you must, please hurry up in doing so because I am fed up of having the sword of Damocles hanging over my head. I had initially tried JohnCD before noticing a wikibreak template on his talk page.--Launchballer 21:14, 17 May 2014 (UTC)

Archiving
editYou told Ottawahitech that my archive limit is 20k. Actually it is 64k and at the moment I am going to have to archive much sooner than usual thanks to the endless waffling of you know who. I was brought up on 16 bit machines and I still find it a bit surprising that there are no problems when an edit box goes over 65,535 bytes. As to Le Prof, my advice is: ignore totally. I will be surprised if threats to "forward an admin page" ever materialise. And even if they did, any complaints would be dismissed. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 22:36, 20 May 2014 (UTC)

editJust pointing out, for a self-professed staunch inclusionist, you seem to have nominated 24 articles for deletion in the last two months. I disclose, I come from your Natalia Poklonskaya AfD. starship.paint "YES!" 08:36, 24 May 2014 (UTC)
- That one was probably not one of my better AfDs - as explained, I saw the phrase "the article belongs at AfD" several times and just went with it. My staunch inclusionist remarks were made in pure frustration at my treatment by MC Kinky regarding her article, among other experiences at the time. That was about 12 months ago. In many cases someone can just point out how badly mistaken I am and I withdraw, in others the article thoroughly deserves deletion. What a lot of people forget is that AfD, despite this, often results in some amount of cleanup being done (my AfD nomination for List of works about Julian Assange resulted in this being done to the article); thus even if it gets kept, if the creator is still active it sends them an instruction. The threat of deletion of Going Left Right (see this resulted in me expanding it to DYK level.--Launchballer 08:57, 24 May 2014 (UTC)
- Your humility is appreciated. I did see that some of your current AfDs were kept, some redirected or merged, and some deleted. By all means, continue with your AfD contributions - I just think that in that case, maybe you should considering updating your user page on your editorial slants. starship.paint "YES!" 13:01, 24 May 2014 (UTC)

Doc McStuffins
editI restored the speedy A10 on List of Doc McStuffins episodes (Season 2) that you removed, but to a different article. A user (now blocked) was trying to create individual episode lists for each season. The main info is now back in the original article, but I see that someone has tagged the Season 1 fork as a copy vio of ImDb, so we might need to remove this from the main article too. Let others answer their own talk queries, please
editWhy do you answer entries on other people's talk pages? If an Admin deletes something, and someone questions/challenges it, it is the Admin's responsibility to reply to the queries at his or her talk pages, not yours. You simply muddy the process of a person getting clear answers by stepping in. In is inappropriate to interject in this way, and does the party being effected a clear disservice. - Because I have very little activity on my talk page and it gives me practice for if I ever become admin here. Plus if the admin isn't online, it actually hurries things up.--Launchballer 18:27, 27 May 2014 (UTC)

Ed Alleyne-Johnson - Edited Article
editHave just seen your question on the deletion review. I thought somebody might ask the question so I could get some guidance. A lot of the information comes from the sleeve notes of the reissue of the Purple Electric album and also the official website. I was careful to reword because I didn't want to inadvertently breach copyright, therefore the text is all my words. I'm not at all sure of the rights and wrongs here. I also managed to get contact info for the artist himself and wrote to him to get formal permission but I am aware that he is touring with New Model Army at the moment. Had I heard back I may have drafted differently. Is it OK to state the album notes as the source? It is not self produced by the artist and is on a label (Demon Records which is part of Edsel). I didn't want to ask this question, which might be naive on the deletion review page Jamiller63 (talk) 17:23, 28 May 2014 (UTC)
- Album sleeves are reliable; as for "wrote to him", WP:PERCOM applies.--Launchballer 18:20, 28 May 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks, that's helpful, I am learning all the time. I'll add a formal response on the deletion consideration page tomorrow morning. You'll see that I took out the original reference to 80,000 sales due to the fact that I don't think it is verifiable (I certainly couldn't find figures). I did ask the artist if there were sales figures published anywhere. However, hearing what you say an reading the reference under the link, I won't pursue this. On the source of the material (i.e. the album notes), do I need to refer to this in the references at the bottom of the article or in the text somewhere? Thanks for your help. - Done it! I think? It was not straightforward as almost all the information I added today came from the same source, therefore I've added the reference at the end of the last paragraph and been explicit in the reference note to #3. I'm not 100% confident that I have this right but couldn't see an easy way of doing it. A very small % of the information had already been included in the original page but some of this is repeated in my source. The reference to the band Raindance was included in the original, as an example. I left it in because I have found reference to an album release on Discogs, he was certainly a member of the band and designed the sleeve but as the vinyl album was self produced/manufactured I'm not sure it counts. I'm half tempted to buy a copy just to verify the point. I'm surprised that there appear to be 4 copies for sale on Discogs, I would have thought that very few were produced. If I do buy would I be able to add the verification/citation? Jamiller63 (talk) 21:53, 28 May 2014 (UTC)
- Please do: Discogs is freely-editable, like Wikipedia, and thus is not a reliable source. Long posts I have difficulty reading because my eyes keep moving all over the place and I can't keep track, but as far as I can tell who did the artwork is irrelevant; so long as it was released by something independent.--Launchballer 22:11, 28 May 2014 (UTC)

- Apology accepted. It's a shame other motormouths on this page don't follow your example. :)

Page widening
editI normally work on Wikipedia in a browser window 960px wide and with a zoom to 90% of standard text size. Even with these settings your user page was causing page widening, ie. I needed to do an horizontal scroll to see it all. The reformatting I have just done is strictly a suggestion. Now, when I view the page at 960px wide the "Articles I created or assisted with" and "My favourite songs" sections display as 3 columns and 2 respectively. But when I maximise my window, they reorganise to 8 columns and 5. I have stripped all <table> markup - I have a note to myself in the edit history of user talk:RHaworth/Archive index that {{div col|colwidth= don't seem to work within a table cell. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 14:14, 2 June 2014 (UTC)
- Every computer I use - my netbook, my Mum's laptop I 'inherited', the two computers I use in school and even my sister's laptop I'm using now - is widescreen, so I have no idea what my userpage looks like on regular screen. I have no objections to it being made accessible. (Incidentally, look at the UK chart positions of "My favourite songs" - the numbering system is not a co-incidence.)--Launchballer 15:32, 2 June 2014 (UTC)
No idea!! Are you telling me that you invariably use every program in full screen, "maximised" mode? On Windows XP, at top right of each window are three icons: "Minimise", "Restore Down", "Close". Try clicking on the middle, "Restore Down" icon - you should be able to find the equivalent on other versions of windows. Lo and behold, you have a window of which you can adjust the size and thus see how it looks to me. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 16:56, 2 June 2014 (UTC)
- Believe it or not, yes, I maximise each program. If I'm doing something on the computer, I prefer to block everything else out on it whilst at it... it's a psychological thing. I've restructured it.--Launchballer 17:49, 2 June 2014 (UTC)

Producer notability
editI'm not sure, but I know that a lot of arguably "notable" producers in the bass music scene don't have entries. For example, Future Cut produced "Unorthodox" which got #2 in the UK but their own article failed WP's criteria. editIs The Chase really a reliable source? Britmax (talk) 20:09, 9 June 2014 (UTC)
- I'd love to hear an argument otherwise. On such game shows, accuracy is crucial and the last time a game show declared a wrong answer to be correct, this happened. (Obviously The Mirror, the source of that article, isn't a reliable source, but it proves the point nonetheless and I picked it because they were the first to report on it.) Accuracy is crucial in such game shows and thus I would say The Chase is a reliable source. It is comedy game shows like Celebrity Juice that aren't reliable. How come you doubt their reliability?--Launchballer 20:20, 9 June 2014 (UTC)

- @Rui Gabriel Correia: I think that some of the good editors have edited this page. That's why it couldn't be deleted. But now there is a proper Afd, lets see if it remains or not. OccultZone (Talk • Contributions • Log) 10:07, 14 June 2014 (UTC)

Beef Jerky listed at Redirects for discussion
editAn editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Beef Jerky. Since you had some involvement with the Beef Jerky redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you have not already done so. Steel1943 (talk) 18:39, 13 June 2014 (UTC)

DYK for Routine Check
editOn 14 June 2014, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Routine Check, which you recently created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Robbie Williams was inspired to write Rudebox's hidden track, "Dickhead", after playing The Mitchell Brothers' "Routine Check" to death? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Routine Check. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page. |

DYK nomination of The Days of Pearly Spencer
editHello! Your submission of The Days of Pearly Spencer at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Storye book (talk) 10:47, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
- There is a problem with the article talk page, which directs to the talk page for this album. It's odd , and may need an admin to sort it out if you can't - I can't work out what's gone wrong. What I was going to say on that talk page is that I don't know where the idea that Phil Solomon co-produced the single has come from - the record label here clearly says it was arranged and produced by Mike Leander. And, also, there is no "The" in the record title (at least in that original version). Ghmyrtle (talk) 21:28, 22 June 2014 (UTC)
- Not a tricky issue at all. Just blank the talk page and it stops redirecting. As for the idea that the song was co-produced by Solomon, thank you for pointing that out, it is an error - McWilliams was signed to Major Minor Records which is operated by Solomon. I'll amend that immediately.--Launchballer 21:55, 22 June 2014 (UTC)

editHi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Asia Minor (instrumental), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Malagueña (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Blocked
editYou may not have broken 3RR, but you were certainly edit warring, and you've been blocked for that before, so you're blocked for a week. You should know better, you've been here a long time. Follow WP:BRD next time. Sergecross73 msg me 23:54, 26 June 2014 (UTC)
- That's ridiculous - I was merely trying to ensure that WP:BRD was being followed! A block may have been warranted but a week is way too harsh. I'm busy today, but considering unblock requests.--Launchballer 07:22, 27 June 2014 (UTC)
- The fact that you reverted 3 times shows that you weren't even close to following WP:BRD yourself, so that excuse isn't going to fly. The length of the block was escalated because your block log shoes you've been blocked for edit warring in the past. Sergecross73 msg me 10:19, 27 June 2014 (UTC)
- I got annoyed because the editor thought that a consensus, formed seven years ago and regarding a different state of the article altogether, still stood, and he wasn't listening. I also thought my edits fell under WP:3RRNO#EX4.--Launchballer 13:21, 27 June 2014 (UTC)
- No, it was clearly a content dispute, not vandalism. And edit warring is not okay, even if you think your edits are justifiable. There was nothing so pressing about this (such as copyvios or WP:BLP violations, that this couldn't have been resolved on the albums talk page, or at a Wikiproject or something. Re-adding this. You can clear your talk page, but you are not allowed to remove active block notices. Sorry. Thanks. Sergecross73 msg me 00:11, 2 July 2014 (UTC)
- @ Sergecross73. Blame me - Sorry, I didn't realise about not removing block notices. However I should add that there is material on this user's front page which shows that perhaps a little more kindness is warranted in this case - at the very least some advice on how to get help when an edit war might be about to begin. --Storye book (talk) 08:28, 2 July 2014 (UTC)
It's all right to remove the block notice as long as you're not requesting unblock, Launchballer (because if you're doing that it's needed). Sergecross73, I've just changed the guideline per overwhelming consensus on talk.[2] [3]. Bishonen | talk 09:47, 2 July 2014 (UTC).
- That wasn't even enacted until after I had done it. But thanks for the heads up for the future, good to know. Sergecross73 msg me 12:35, 2 July 2014 (UTC)
- Noted. Upon my unblock I will be copying these comments over to the archive and requesting that the revisions made before this be moved to the archive. As for preventing future edit wars, I will be voluntarily following WP:1RR from now on. Any second reverts can be made by someone else.--Launchballer 17:36, 2 July 2014 (UTC)
Note that I have not thought of a consensus from seven years ago because I never knew about Wikipedia until 2011, so that part was entirely not true. My apologies, but it's so not true. I never thought of anything like that until now, so "The Little Things Give You Away" will stay redirected, as it is. It is not my choice, I know, but everyone has confirmed for it to be redirected to the album itself. If this happens again, I will report it to the administrator to redirect it again. Thank you. - Michig's comment puts it perfectly; the song is being released today, and we won't find out if it has charted until seven days have elapsed. Thus, this is a pretty ill-timed discussion. As for the 4Music listing, they air the music video with bitesize chunks of information at the bottom; it's on later on today if you are interested.--Launchballer 08:05, 29 June 2014 (UTC)

- Storye book: Please see #Blocked. I will deal with the close paraphrasing when my block expires (ironically on 4 July). As for my QPQ, I am very happy to accept a donated QPQ. In the meantime, I have a policy that I archive my talk page every 100 sections and this is section 100. Therefore, could you please move this talk page to User talk:Launchballer/archive/2014/401-500, copy this comment to the DYK nomination, reply if necessary there and wait! :)--Launchballer 23:03, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
