Well, that certainly can't hurt. I do appreciate the work you've put into; please don't take offense at the nomination. Yours, Meelar (talk) 07:18, Apr 12, 2005 (UTC)

I've noticed you defending copyright questionable images... please don't. Wikipedia is not hurting for images, and many of the images that we have misappropriated are of low quality. I'd like to extend an invitation to you directly that if you run across a potentially copyvio image which you think really improves it's article, please contact me and I will make an attempt to replace it. I travel and am able to photograph many things... Gmaxwell 23:15, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Sorry about defending the copyright questionable pictures if I offended you. All I meant was to make a note for future editors. Truely I could care less about some of the pictures there, but I do understand that others might and I do think that images can greatly enhance an article. Also I have never bothered uploading an image as your comment about the paperclip on Wikipedia:Possibly_unfree_images insinuates and no I don't have a good understanding knowledge of copyright.

Again I meant no harm and was just trying to help. --Lzygenius 12:00, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Ah, Well I wasn't trying to insinuate anything, but I suppose like you 'make a note for future editors'. No one should be uploading images in a manner which is against the law, I wasn't trying to single you out. I appricate your effort to help, but I think I can suggest a better way to help, ... rather than complaining about removing possibly unfree images which make wikipedia less free, you can identify places where articles really need images and they either don't have them or they have unfree ones which are being removed... and you can go nag people who photograph to replace them. :) Gmaxwell 16:36, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Fair use images in userspace

edit

Wikipedia:Fair use criteria specifically states in proscribing the use of fair use images in userspace, "All other uses, even if legal under the fair use clauses of copyright law, should be avoided to keep the use of unfree images to a minimum" (emphasis mine). This is a matter of policy. I found an additional fair use image on that page (Kern County seal) and remove it as well. No hostility intended here; just adherence to policy. If you have questions about this, I'd be happy to answer. All the best, --Durin 02:05, 14 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

County, local and state governments are NOT U.S. government. As a result, the normal PD status of U.S. government works do not apply to county, local and state governments. Copyright varies by each of these governments. For example, the Count of Sacramento website [1] has a copyright tag on the bottom of its website. For another example, Kern County Personnel Department has a copyright tag on their website [2]. It is important to note that even if a website does not have a copyright tag, we must presume the information on the site is copyrighted unless the owner of the work otherwise specifically releases their rights under one or more terms. In the case of the U.S. federal government, it is by law that works of that government are in the public domain (except, I believe, in some very restricted cases). --Durin 12:53, 14 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Joenabie Gamao

edit

Thanks for the quick help on Joenabie_Gamao. I thought it may have qualified for a speedy delete but I wasn't sure.→LzyGenius 02:42, 10 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

No problem. Pages that are obviously someone's attempt at creating a rudimentary blog or homepage are always a candidate for either speedy deletion or at best moving to that user's userpage (though in this case, because the information was duplicated, deletion was appropriate). If only all cases were so clear-cut! ~ Matticus78 07:19, 10 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Kushiel's Chosen.png

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Kushiel's Chosen.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 23:51, 13 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image File:Bakersfield College logo.png

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Bakersfield College logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 23:12, 24 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
