CommonsHelper

Hi Magnus. Sorry for not using bitbucket, but I don't know how to use it. This is to report that when I try to use your CommonsHelper tool, I always get this message: "Cannot construct database name for meta.wikimedia - aborting." or other error messages. I tried with m:File:Prisma.gif. I hope that you can have a look at this. Greetings, MarcoAurelio (talk) 14:03, 22 December 2014 (UTC)

This should be fixed now. --Magnus Manske (talk) 10:53, 25 December 2014 (UTC)
Thanks Magnus. Will test shorlty. Happy hollydays and new year :-) MarcoAurelio (talk) 20:20, 27 December 2014 (UTC)

Sorry for the inconvenience. Best regards, MarcoAurelio (talk) 22:42, 27 December 2014 (UTC)
Sorry to add my request to this talk page, but I've the same problem to use bitbucket. Trying to use CommonsHelper to transfer a file, I use the link to authorize OAuth uploader to perform uploads. A new page is open with the dialog box o authorize the tool, but the result is that the Tools using OAuth Uploader is Flickr2Commons. How to fix it? Pietro (talk) 09:15, 25 January 2015 (UTC)
It seems working now. Sorry, Pietro (talk) 11:01, 27 January 2015 (UTC)

Namaste, Mag. Is it possible to add ability to automagically remove {{Copy to Commons}} template from a page after image/file is transferred from Wikipedia (or other project site)? Rationale is that the tool already adds {{Now Commons}} but does not remove the other. -- dsprc [talk] 21:37, 11 February 2015 (UTC)

"Stupid" (maybe) question about MissingTopics tool

Hi Magnus! Good health!

(I saw your messages in December about "visit to hospital" - I understand that's not "funny time"; I was "hospital programmer" at 1989-2013)

I have one "stupid" (maybe) question about using of MissingTopics tool.

I write topics about field hockey in Russian Wikipedia - and your tool is excellent help work for looking for "urgent ToDo", because this theme (field hockey) looks like "desert" in Ru-wiki (huge of "red links" to unexisting topics). But... strange thing I see (from middle of December 2014 as I mean):

  1. When I used Missing Topics for category (on Russian) "Категория:Соревнования по хоккею на траве" (eng. interwiki "Category:Field hockey competitions") - for today "missing topics list" has 1737 entries with this settings - MissingTopics works very fast (2-3 seconds; and most important - it works!).
  2. But when I used MissingTopics for "root" category (on Russian) "Категория:Хоккей на траве" (eng. interwiki "Category:Field hockey") - for last succesful start (7 Jan 2015) "missing topics list" has 2240 entries with this settings (the same, as I see, like in previous example) - tool is NOT work (seconds, minutes etc.): I'm wait-wait-wait... and no result :((

I don't understand what's wrong in second example :(( Any "limits" ("number of red links in list" for example)? Any "black list for categories" (from author or anyone)? Something else?

Thanks. -- Alexey Gustow (Ekaterinburg, Russia) Алексей Густов (talk) 16:29, 12 February 2015 (UTC)

Same with 'Техас' category (exact settings). Somehow missingtopics seem to hang when trying to search 5 levels deep. I've tried to experiment with different categories, but still have no idea why some searches work and some don't. This seem to apply to Ukrainian wiki as well (and maybe all ciryllic wikis?). Thanks for your hard work Magnus. Hope you feel better. --Flomru (talk) 17:59, 13 February 2015 (UTC)

Template:Red Wikidata link has been nominated for merging with Template:Interlanguage link. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the template's entry on the Templates for discussion page. Thank you. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 13:48, 16 February 2015 (UTC)

Missing topics

Hi, I am French so please be tolerant with my writings. I wanted to use "Missing topics" as mentioned by others on fr:Wikipédia:Questions techniques/semaine 6 2015#Articles à créer, in order to count how much red links there is in the articles of a project. What I want to know is if it is possible not to consider the red links in the templates inside the articles. Theoritically, it would work by choosing "Filter out links from templates used in category pages", but in fact it doesn't seem to work. Can you please enlighten me ? Bloubéri (talk) 23:00, 13 February 2015 (UTC)

Some templates have special sections separating include-only and never-include contents. Some generate links based on parameters. Long story short, it works for some templates, and not for others. No general way to tell if a link comes from a template or not. --Magnus Manske (talk) 09:02, 16 February 2015 (UTC)
Thanks. And have you got any exemple of these ones? Bloubéri (talk) 20:58, 16 February 2015 (UTC)

CommonsDelinker

Hi Magnus, I just noticed CommonsDelinker stopped 5 days ago. I noticed as a backlog is building up on Category:Articles with missing files as I've been unable to edit as much myself at the mo to keep on top of things. Cheers KylieTastic (talk) 13:22, 7 February 2015 (UTC)

JoanJoc's Down.

Hello,

sorry to bother you with an alert which may not be of your concern but you are flagged as the maintainer of the JoanJoc tool and this useful tool is down (the error message is Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket). I guess a mysql database or server is down. Could you please put this tool back in service or direct me towards a user able to check the problem out ?

In advance, thank you.--ContributorQ (talk) 18:32, 18 February 2015 (UTC)

It's not just you: it has stopped working. I am not a technical bod, but it might be to do with the OAuth thing; it might have moved or been deleted because a request to authorize produces "The URI you have requested, /magnustools/oauth_uploader.php?action=authorize, is not currently serviced." It is working again now. Thanks Magnus. Hogweard (talk) 20:28, 23 February 2015 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Mandore

The article Mandore has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Article lacks the sources/citation. A fully unsourced article. Contents show no purpose other than promotion of Place/People.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Wikipedia Science Conference

Hello Magnus, You're receiving this update because you asked to be informed about the Wikipedia Science Conference taking place in London on 2nd and 3rd of September. Thanks for your interest.

The call for proposals is now public and session proposals are coming in. The two keynotes, and some other invited speakers, have graciously accepted. In mid-May we will bring together a programme, a publicity poster, and an online booking form. Then we'll begin the main publicity and will need your help getting the word out.

Please put in a session proposal if you've been thinking of doing so: the deadline is the 8th May. This is far from the only way to be involved. The conference will need session moderators, a programme review group, and other volunteers: if there is a specific role you are interested in, or if you have any other questions, please email me at m.l.poulter bristol.ac.uk.

There will be a large "unconference" session in the programme and - fingers crossed - a "hackathon" event two days later on the Saturday, so even if you do not have a proposal accepted, you will have a chance to shape the conference activities.

Please pass on the word to any colleagues who might want to put in a proposal or help the conference in any way. Cheers,

PS. Magnus, I'm particularly keen to see what you want to contribute. You probably know that I've invited Daniel M. and, via Darren L., I've extended a speaking invitation to "the Sanger Institute gang" so consider yourself among the invited speakers. Whether you want to do a combined presentation with colleagues or a presentation on your own is up to you.

Uk Wikipedia missing topics tool is not working

Hi, just wanted to inform you that the wonderful and very useful Missing topics tool is not working for Ukrainian Wikipedia. It freezes and stays frozen displaying a message "Note: This may take several minutes, especially for queries with 5000 articles and more. Please be patient and do *not* hit reload!..." And stays like that for hours. Which is a shame. I was wondering if it's possible to perhaps fix it in one of your spare minutes? =)

Thanks! --Helixitta (talk) 13:34, 16 March 2015 (UTC)

Geograph2Commons

Hi Magnus, do you still support Geograph2Commons? You don't have a section about it on BitBucket. It was semi-working yesterday - it grabbed the info but never uploaded (just said "uploading..."), but it displayed the info which was helpful for copy/paste to Commons. Now it doesn't grab the info at all. I just discovered Geograph and I'm hoping you still work on it - it's a great tool! Thank you so much! МандичкаYO 😜 15:08, 18 March 2015 (UTC)

Invitation

Thank you for using VisualEditor and sharing your ideas with the developers.

Hello, Magnus Manske,

The Editing team is asking for your help with VisualEditor. I am contacting you because you were one of the very first testers of VisualEditor, back in 2012 or early 2013. Please tell them what they need to change to make VisualEditor work better for you. The team has a list of top-priority problems, but they also want to hear about small problems. These problems may make editing less fun, take too much of your time, or be as annoying as a paper cut. The Editing team wants to hear about and try to fix these small things, too.

You can share your thoughts by clicking this link. You may respond to this quick, simple, anonymous survey in your own language. If you take the survey, then you agree your responses may be used in accordance with these terms. This survey is powered by Qualtrics and their use of your information is governed by their privacy policy.

More information (including a translateable list of the questions) is posted on wiki at mw:VisualEditor/Survey 2015. If you have questions, or prefer to respond on-wiki, then please leave a message on the survey's talk page.

Thank you, Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 18:13, 23 March 2015 (UTC)

Is Move-to-commons assistant malfunctioning?

I have previously easily used this tool to move an image from Wikipedia to Commons. The last few times over a series of recent weeks, I tried on various files with Tools using OAuth Uploader, the OAuth Uploaders tells me I've authorized it. But when I do a "refresh" on the page where I'm doing the move, it goes through the motions and then kicks up the message:

Querying CommonSense ...done.
Querying image data ...done.
Retrieving image description ...done.
ERROR: null

If while still logged in on Uploader, I go back to the original file to try again, in this case File:New York Dramatic Mirror June1910.jpg, it will go through the motions and still kick up the above error message. The image never gets uploaded at Commons. Since it worked before, why is it not now? — Maile (talk) 19:46, 24 March 2015 (UTC)

Third-party patch broke the tool. Fixed now. --Magnus Manske (talk) 11:23, 25 March 2015 (UTC)

Suggestion to improve "Not in the other language"

Hello. "Suggest articles from interwikis" by Joanjoc was a great tool, but it has been down (always Can't connect to local MySQL server) for more than a month, and seems nobody would fix it. Your tool "Not in the other language" could be the alternative. However, the disadvantage is that the items generated from your tool is sorted in alphabetical order, but not in the order of the number of languages. If there is an option to do this, your tool can totally replace Joanjoc's one. Thank you. --Ktchankt (talk) 02:07, 29 March 2015 (UTC)

Inappropriate delinking

Can you tell CommonsDelinker not to remove links to deleted files? CommonsDelinker should only act on pages which use deleted files, not on pages which happen to link to a deleted file. See for example Special:Diff/655338659. --Stefan2 (talk) 16:10, 7 April 2015 (UTC)

The purpose of CommonsDelinker is to remove links to deleted files. How could I (automatically) tell the difference between the "normal" scenario and yours? --Magnus Manske (talk) 18:38, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
I think that CommonsDelinker only should remove files which are used on a page, but not links to the file. MediaWiki tells that the page doesn't use this file, so the page should be skipped. --Stefan2 (talk) 21:07, 7 April 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for your message.

Geograph-to-Commons

(Tried to put a comment on Bitbucket but couldn't work out how to add a comment). I have used Geograph-to-Commons for ages and have TUSC token etc. It's a really useful tool but for the last couple of days it hasn't been working as previously. When I fill in the cat & click run it shows the int:filedesc information & says "Uploading" & then hangs. The image isn't found by a search of commons under the geograph number and doesn't appear in the relevant category - any ideas?— Rod talk 09:42, 26 April 2015 (UTC)

Missingtopics

Hi! My question is about Missingtopics. Wanted to know which namespaces it is checking? Autolist 2

Hello Magnus,

Right now I am at the Berlin Wikimedia Conference. We had a very interesting and indeed enriching session about Wikidata recently. I tried to contribute to this project for some time and when I do have some time I always do, but I've been wondering about something else - mass editing.

In essence - I am looking for a translatewiki/commonist-like input to Wikidata, so I can edit more quickly and more efficiently.

Any editathon that would be organized back in Prague using such a tool might have a great result (me and my friend made a translatewiki session in January this year, resulting in cca 1800+ translations per couple of hours). I would like to repeat that - I was told to try https://tools.wmflabs.org/autolist/ but so far this looks more like a tool that gives you output but does not allow input :-( I am wondering what should I do or how can I simply add new statements - like in translatewiki. Do you know about some other tool, do you know some pattern that I can use for the command window or something else? It would be really helpful for me and for Wikidata as well, as the edits might go not in ones or tens, but in tens or hundreds. And that's worth it! --Aktron (t|c) 13:16, 14 May 2015 (UTC)

QuickStatements question

I wish to input a correct birth date for John Penn (the American) in Wikidata. Wikidata now considers the timestamp to be in the calendar described in the calendarmodel field. The correct birth date is February 29, 1700, Julian calendar. How can the callendarmodel be indicated in QuickStatements?

The line I tried follows, but obviously has no indication of the calendarmodel:

Wikipedia Science Conference

Hi, this is another update on the Wikipedia Science Conference taking place in London on Wednesday 2nd and Thursday 3rd of September.

  • Booking has opened at just 29 pounds, including lunch on both days.
  • Take a look at the (pretty much final) programme if you haven’t seen it yet. With 18 plenary speakers - three from overseas - as well as the large unconference section, there’s a lot going on, and the Royal Society of Chemistry is sponsoring a wine reception in the evening.
  • We are also in the full swing of publicity. Emails have been, and are, going out to funders, scholarly societies, and university departments, but any additional promotion is appreciated. Please share a link, or tell colleagues in relevant fora. All publicity material for the conference is, of course, freely licenced for you to adapt.
  • After the conference there will be two hackathons: one Cambridge on the Friday, the other hosted by Wikimedia UK in London on the Saturday. These are being led by Daniel Mietchen and Stefan Kasberger. Follow the link for more details.

I hope you’re excited as I am about this event. Cheers, MartinPoulter (talk) 18:14, 6 July 2015 (UTC)

Please help to find a tool from toolserver

Dear Magnus Manske

For the rather long period of time I have used tool called ~joanjoc and ~dm/langlinks.php from toolserver to track interwiki links that don't exist in my native wikipedia, but exist in majority of other wikipedias. This help a lot to improve the content. After toolserver migration to Tool Lab I lost this tool and can't find another one with the same functionality. Could you please advise me such tool in Tool Lab? Thank you and have a nice day! --Kibeee (talk) 07:16, 13 July 2015 (UTC)

I have a question about the TreeViews tool. I am attempting to run a query, http://tools.wmflabs.org/glamtools/treeviews/?q={%22rows%22%3A[{%22title%22%3A%22WikiProject%20Seattle%20articles%22%2C%22talk%22%3Atrue}]} (not easy to display in WikiMarkup, BTW). Although there are several thousand pages under WikiProject Seattle, I only seem to be able to get about 1136 pages. I am wondering if this is an undocumented feature that throttles the # of results due to performance constraints, or a defect. I figure that if it is the latter, I should open a bug report in Phabricator, but I wanted to check with you to rule out the former so that I am not wasting anybody's time with this.

Peaceray (talk) 19:27, 29 July 2015 (UTC)
Hi Peaceray, it looks like a bug. I am contemplating a new, improved tool instead of bugfixing the (rather old) TreeViews. There is also the promised WMF page view API "some time this fall", which would likely require a rewrite anyway. Stay tuned. --Magnus Manske (talk) 09:42, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
Okay, thanks! I will stay tuned. Peaceray (talk) 17:32, 30 July 2015 (UTC)

missingtopics

Hi! Sorry for posting it here, not on Github. About missingtopics. I have some more ideas about development (what could/should/may be added), but the first (and probably most important) thing is - maybe you could add an option to scan all Wikipedia? There is such page, that could use scanning of all Wikipedia. Also "my" Wikipedia (Latvian Wikipedia) is using it in such way. --Edgars2007 (talk/contribs) 14:19, 31 July 2015 (UTC)

I can offer you this one... --Magnus Manske (talk) 15:51, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
OK, nevermind. Was finally able to write SQL query, which does the job. --Edgars2007 (talk/contribs) 12:06, 4 August 2015 (UTC)

How can I search free images with this?

Hi, please explain me how can I find free images to use them on wikipedia with this tool on the free domain pages. I tried to use it, but I did not find any field where I could write my search therm for finding free images on the internet. There are only fields for the number of the finds, size, etc, but I cannot find any place where I can write my search therm. Thanks in advance. --Sylvain1975 (talk) 10:46, 9 August 2015 (UTC)

Well, not knowing what "this" you are referring to, I can only offer you FIST. Set it to "articles", past in your article names, and go. --Magnus Manske (talk) 12:28, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

Tool

This tool is really useful.[4]

Anyway we can use categories for articles that exist on the article's talk page? For example I am trying to determine which of these articles are missing in Japanese [5]

Wikidata list features

Hello Magnus, thanks for Wikidata list!

Here is an example on French wikipedia fr:Projet:Pyrénées-Orientales/Wikidata/Dolmens. I have found some features which may improve this great tool.

  1. If "coordinate location" is "unknown value", the bot writes {{Coord|<|s|display=inline}} into the list. I wish it wrote "unknown value" (or "valeur inconnue" in French if the page is on French WP, but "unknown value" is good enough). I mean: the value is "really" unknown, it is not because I didn't find them, the sources say they don't know exactly where were some dolmens, which is destroyed.
  2. I don't know if you could add a "Also known as" column, as it depends on the language?
  3. On WP, we need sources. Is it possible to add the page when we use a "described by source" column? See "dolmen de la Siureda" in the example above.

I think these features may be useful in many lists, mightn't they? --El Caro (talk) 08:15, 28 August 2015 (UTC)

Could you please add commons:Images from Wiki Loves Earth 2015 in France to BaGLAMa 2 ? I suppose the whole bunch of WLE categories would be worth adding, too.

ListeriaBot

Ciao Magnus Manske,

I have a discussion on NlWp where this bot is active without UserPage. I assume you handle it there as well. Perhaps on other projects too? I wanted to change the column headers into Dutch (was a mix of Dutch, Dunglish and English before. It's placed in the UserNamespace of User:Jane023. The discussion is spread on my own, her and User:Natuur12's TalkPages. Can you help in one of two ways:
  1. am I right or wrong?
  2. repair the bot so it's using only the language of the project where it's located? — Preceding unsigned comment added by KlaasZ4usV (talkcontribs) 12:56, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
Hi KlaasZ4usV,
  1. You are right that it works on nlwiki. Current list is ru, nl, fr, de, en, and wikidata. I have bot accounts on some of them, but since the bot is only editing pages where specifically requested (by putting a template), and it is extremely low-volume, I don't see botflags as a critical issue
  2. By default, the column headers should be loaded from the wiki laanguage, with a few hardcoded excaptions (e.g. "article"). The column titles can be manually set in the header template, as explained here. --Magnus Manske (talk) 13:53, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for your adequate answer. If it's hardcoded 'Article' could be replaced by the international word lemma (indeed preferrably lowercase for esthetical reason unless all column-headers are initial uppercase). In general however I would avoid any expression in a bot that's supposed to work in all languages and all projects written directly in the code as plain text. Think of Greek, Cyrillic and other scripts that don't use the Latin script. Wikimedia is much more than "just" Wikipedia. My €0.02 with kind regards from Italy,  Klaas `Z4␟` V 06:52, 6 August 2015 (UTC)

I created m:User:ListeriaBot so now the user page is shown globally if it does not exist locally. On ca.wiki the bot is not working anymore, even if I try a manual update it does nothing. --Vriullop (talk) 08:41, 8 August 2015 (UTC)

It is working again on ca.wiki. Thanks for your work, it is great. --Vriullop (talk) 08:53, 10 August 2015 (UTC)

Duplicity

Hi Magnus; thanks for creating Duplicity, which has made one aspect of maintenance on cywiki so much easier. The cywiki list has a lot of item-less articles on plants and animals, by their Latin names. Is there a way of matching articles up quickly with Wikidata items that have labels or aliases identical to the article titles? Cheers, Ham II (talk) 16:11, 8 September 2015 (UTC)

Duplicity at lvwiki

Hi, Magnus! Thanks for the great tool.

I have dropped number to zero at lvwiki and then found that Duplicity doesn't show ~100 unconnected articles from the main namespace. You can see this list at the top of lv:Dalībnieks:Voll/6 page. Could you imagine, please, why it happens? Thank you. --Voll (talk) 12:35, 14 September 2015 (UTC)

Oh. sorry, I've got it. This is result "excluding certain maintenance categories", right? But where can I find this categories list? --Voll (talk) 12:42, 14 September 2015 (UTC)
I am not showing articles created in the last two weeks, maybe that's it. Otherwise, if you create an item, and the article is then deleted, it would leave a "hanging" item. And the list is in my source code; I am quite certain I don't have any for lvwiki. --Magnus Manske (talk) 12:44, 14 September 2015 (UTC)
You are right - main reason is new articles, and the second one - old redirects were changed to articles. Thank you again! --Voll (talk) 13:23, 14 September 2015 (UTC)

Linked items tool

Hi, I just tried to use your Linked items tool (https://tools.wmflabs.org/wikidata-todo/linked_items.php). It's a nice tool, but I would like to get the results without alphabetical sorting. --Stryn (talk) 16:24, 16 September 2015 (UTC)

Hi Magnus! I've been really enjoying your "Related properties" tool. But I was wondering,

(1) Would it be possible to differently colour-code properties that appear as qualifiers and properties that appear on references from properties that appear as main properties for the item? This would make the lists much quicker to interpret at a glance.

(2) Would it be possible to make an analogous tool, to give a list of the most common values for a particular property for items in a particular set?

-- eg I've run some queries like this in SPARQL for paintings d:Wikidata_talk:WikiProject_sum_of_all_paintings#Some_project_top-lists here; but it would be really cool to have this as a generalised user-friendly tool in the same way as what you've created with "Related properties"; and very cool if it could run on WDQ rather than SPARQL -- the current SPARQL implementation seems to really choke on some path queries, that WDQ takes in its stride.

The icing on the cake would then be to link the two tools together, so that in a few clicks one could explore a chain like:

Most common properties for paintings

-> Most common values for property:genre for paintings
-> Most common properties for paintings with genre:landscape art
-> Most common values for property:movement for paintings with genre:landscape art
-> Most common properties for paintings with genre:landscape art and movement:Dutch Golden Age painting
-> Most common values for property:creator for paintings with genre:landscape art and movement:Dutch Golden Age painting
-> Most common properties for paintings with genre:landscape art and movement:Dutch Golden Age painting and creator:Jan van Goyen
-> Most common values for property:collection for paintings with genre:landscape art and movement:Dutch Golden Age painting and creator:Jan van Goyen
-> Items for paintings with genre:landscape art and movement:Dutch Golden Age painting and creator:Jan van Goyen and collection:Rijksmuseum (Autolist)
-> Landscape with Two Oaks (Reasonator).

(One other thing that would be nice would be one more background colour (or set of background colours), to distinguish properties that already explicitly occur in the search string -- ie for which there is already a top-level CLAIM[$prop:\d+] in the string -- this would make it easy to see what properties had already been isolated).

I think this would be an amazing way to be able to drill down and gain an understanding of the full richness the database, not just for paintings (which can already sort of be done with Crotos), but for anything one could imagine. Jheald (talk) 13:07, 18 September 2015 (UTC)

At the moment, the tool works reasonably quick because it uses direct database queries, instead of getting the data via API. Problem is, these database queries do not give me values, nor do they discern between "main" properties and qualifiers. I could make a tool that uses the API data, and it should be fast enough for small lists (your example), but it will be slow if many items are to be processed (like this). --Magnus Manske (talk) 14:32, 29 September 2015 (UTC)

GLAM tool for BAnQ

Hello Magnus,

On the page baglama2, is it possible to replace BAnQ-Projet Poirier by Files uploaded by Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec?

This new cat is including all GLAM projects with BAnQ, not only Poirier project...

Hope this is not too complicated for you.

Thanks in advance. Best regards.

Benoit Rochon (talk) 23:07, 18 October 2015 (UTC)

I have just added this as a new category. Changing it would misrepresent the previous counts. --Magnus Manske (talk) 15:14, 19 October 2015 (UTC)
Ok no problem, thanks a lot for your help. But it seems that accents are missinterpreted : Category:Files uploaded by Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec ... Same for few other cats : Category:Collections of the Bibliothèque nationale de France, Category:Media contributed by the Musée des Augustins de Toulouse, Category:Media contributed by Zentralbibliothek Zürich, Category:Museum für Naturkunde Berlin, Category:Neuchâtel Herbarium Project, Category:Museu de la Música de Barcelona, Category:Radio y Televisión Argentina ...
If you think it better, I can rename for Category:Files uploaded by BAnQ

Wikidata Lists on NDS

Hi, I just tried to copy the templates for Wikidata Lists over to the lower german WP (nds). Works just fine for manual updates. Anything else that's needed to let the bot come back automatically, or will that also just happen? Thanks again for the great work! --Aeroid (talk) 12:21, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

Added nds, and ran it to initialize. Welcome to the club! :-) --Magnus Manske (talk) 16:31, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
Thanks so much! Any chance you might help me with mastering Qualifiers in WD-Queries?
How do I exclude items which are limited by start/end qualifiers?
claim[131:5907] will show Q3533 (Rönneburg) claiming Q5907 via p131, but it ended (p582) in 1937.
I tried various "between" clauses, but can't seem to get it right.
My goal is a current (as of today) list of municipalities of a district, without historic relations (entities claiming Q5907 via p131).
I did ask a similar question on your german talk page, sorry if I'm pestering you.--Aeroid (talk) 08:25, 11 November 2015 (UTC)
Ideally, you would use {noclaim[582]}, but noclaim cannot be the first statement in a (sub)query in WDQ. You can get everything that has P580 and no P582, but that would exclude the statements without P580. I'll need to allow SPARQL instead of WDQ. --Magnus Manske (talk) 11:48, 11 November 2015 (UTC)

BBC Your Paintings

Hi Magnus,

I see that you have done some work indexing BBC Your paintings, and have worked on the Wikidata side of the collection. Here at The National Library of Wales we are interested in getting the images that we contributed to the project over to Wiki Commons. Do you know of a clever and easy way of doing this? I have only very limited tech support here and getting a metadata file prepared in house for a Glam toolset upload before my residency ends in January is unlikely.

Thanks Jason.nlw (talk) 15:38, 4 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi Jason! Mass-uploading files to Commons is quite a different beast to scraping some BBC websites. The GLAM toolset is, AFAIK, the "clever" (albeit not so easy) way to transfer a large number of files to Commons. That said, a more "hackish" method might be possible. Where are your images? Is there a copy on Flickr, by any chance? Where is your metadata? What should your image descriptions look like (maybe an example from another GLAM on Commons)? I can't promise much "tech support", but if you tell me more, I might find a way. No promises. --Magnus Manske (talk) 13:58, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
Thanks Magnus. I just want to have a chat with someone at 'Your Paintings' before i take this further. If i can get them on board it mike make things easier! I will be in touch. Jason.nlw (talk) 10:45, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
