Hello, I'm Dan653. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, it's important to be mindful of the feelings of your fellow editors, who may be frustrated by certain types of interaction, such as your addition to User_talk:Dan653. While you probably didn't intend any offense, please do remember that Wikipedia strives to be an inclusive atmosphere. In light of that, it would be greatly appreciated if you could moderate yourself so as not to offend. Thank you. Dan653 (talk) 01:01, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

editMathgenious989 (block log • active blocks • global blocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser (log))
Request reason:
I was blocked for vandalism. I edited a page i wasent supposed to. Someone complained to me because i threatned to get another person banned with an administrator. I did not respond to the message harshly. I just said i have never talked to you before who are you. I left the computer to eat dinner. I came back to realize i was banned. I had two waRNINGS THEn I WAS INEXPLICLY BANNED BECAUSE SOMEONE COMPLAINED TO ME BECAUSE I THREATNED TO GET ANOTHER USER BANNED! this is outrageous and i am appealing and winning this appeal. thank you good sir or madam.
Decline reason:
Looking back through your recent edits, I see several threats to get editors banned (do you know the difference between a ban and a block)? - which you have no ability to do - and several demands for apologies, which are arguably inappropriate. Do you intend to continue editing in this fashion? If not, how are you going to change?--Anthony Bradbury"talk" 16:30, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
I will change by leaving people alone if i have a problem with them and by only making edits that can help wikipedia. My apology requests were innapropriatte but not illegal by wikipedia laws but its is annoying so i will stop. Thank you i have learned my lesson. No more threats.
apology
editi apologize for my actions against wikipedia and im sorry i admit to vandalism twice and i am open to trout slapping. my articles are good and im sorry for vandilism. love this site and i hate to see it go down the drain. been here nearly six years and i love it.

Unblock request
editMathgenious989 (block log • active blocks • global blocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser (log))
Request reason:
Hi mathgenious989 here with a unblock attempt. Im am going to be very brief. I was WRONG. I will change my ways and no longer make threats to get people blocked. It is wrong and immature espicially since i have no power to do it. Second off just look at my previous works which is actually quite good. I will improve my actions here by having self control and only do works that helps wikipedia. I also have a lot of knowledge in the area of shoes. I could improve and create shoe related articles. This is how I will change and become a better wikipedian. Mathgenious989 (talk) 00:21, 10 October 2013 (UTC)
Accept reason:
I am unblocking you to give you another chance, since you say that you are willing to change your approach. However, I do have some doubts concerning your unblock request. Your comments on this page acknowledge that your approach to other editors was not helpful, but there is no sign that you accept that you have also done other vandalism, such as your edits to James Harden and Stephen Curry (basketball). I shall keep an eye on your editing for a while, and you may expect that any vandalism, trolling, or other disruptive editing is likely to lead to your block being restored, and if that happens your likelihood of being unblocked will probably be much lower than it was this time. JamesBWatson (talk) 09:07, 14 October 2013 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Velcro Sneakers

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Velcro Sneakers requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, images, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Possible help with editing problems
edit
|
I see that since I unblocked you, you have been trying to be a much more constructive editor, which is great, but I'm afraid you are not having a very good time, with article after article being put up for deletion. Unfortunately, over the years I have seen a good many editors come to Wikipedia full of enthusiasm and keen to contribute, only to see article after article they write deleted, until eventually they leave, totally pissed off. That is a real pity, and I hope it doesn't happen to you. I will say a few things which I hope may help you to avoid that. First, though, an easy answer to something you asked me. When you put a reference in an article, as you probably know, all that appears at the place where you put that reference is a little blue link looking something like [3]. The actual reference comes in a reference list, normally somewhere near the bottom of the article, and something has to tell the software where to put that list. The way to do that is to put {{reflist}} where you want the list to go.
I have just declined the speedy deletion nomination of Velcro Sneakers, because to say that the article had "no content" is nonsense: of course it had content, even if not a lot of content. However, if anyone chooses to take the article to an articles for deletion discussion, my guess is that it will be deleted.
Cousin Terio is not so straightforward. I would not have speedily deleted the article, because I think the article did suggest that Terio has some significance. However, speedy deletion criterion A7 is very vague. It says "No indication of importance", but who is to say what counts as "importance"? Different people have very different ideas on that. I see that you have posted to the talk page of the administrator who deleted it. You could ask him or her to userfy the article, or if he or she won't do that you could take it to deletion review to see if you can have it restored. However, that might be a waste of your time, not only because it might not work, but also because even if the article is restored, there is no guarantee that it won't be taken to articles for deletion and deleted again. I am not saying it definitely would be deleted, and you might be lucky, but I am warning you that you might not, because you are probably already rather frustrated with articles you have worked on being deleted, and putting quite a bit of time and effort into trying to save one, and still losing it, would probably be even worse.
My advice to you is the same advice that I have given to a lot of other new editors who, like you, have had a bad experience here to begin with. For quite a while, don't try to write any new articles. Instead, make small improvements to existing articles. You will still sometimes do things that other editors don't agree with, and sometimes things which are definitely against Wikipedia policy, because everybody does to begin with. However, those will be little things, and if they are reverted by other editors you won't lose a lot of work. Gradually, you will learn more about what is acceptable on Wikipedia and what isn't, and after a while you will know enough about what is likely to be accepted to be able to write new articles without the likelihood that they will be deleted.
I am also posting you (above) a "welcome" message with links to various pages such as Wikipedia policies and guidelines. (There is already a welcome message at the top of this page, but I am giving you one with rather more links.) Don't try to read every linked page, because there's far too much there, but do have a look at the ones which seem most relevant to what you need, and you can, of course, always come back to it again when you need to know something else.
Please do feel welcome to ask me for help again. JamesBWatson (talk) 10:36, 17 October 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Mathgenious989, JamesBWatson is an old friend of mine. Long ago, he unblocked me and watched my edits for a couple of months. He is experienced and he is fair, so when you come across disputes, you can ask him to offer an opinion. Sometimes his opinion might not be one you agree with, but he will often explain his position in a way that helps you better understand why Wikipedia does the things it does. I would like to offer my assistance as well. I'm not incredibly active because of University Work, but I should always be able to answer questions within a day or two. I'll also add to JamesBWatson's advice. I think he is correct that you should not focus on writing new articles right away. Editing existing articles is much easier as a beginner. Since you like shoes, I think you should take a look at improving some of the articles in Category:Shoes or in the more specific sub-categories like Category:Athletic shoes. When you feel like creating articles again, try creating them in your userspace. That way, JamesBWatson and I can help you by offering opinions as to whether or not it is notable, or if it can be improved to show that it is notable before it gets to the mainspace. I'll put a button below that should allow you to create any article in your userspace easily. And, as I said above, feel free to ask for assistance at any time. The article Velcro sneakers has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Although user is making an effort, the only sourced information duplicates what is already at velcro#applications.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. - I can see you are making an effort, but after looking at it again I proposed this article for deletion because the only information you were able to cite (and congratulations for doing that correctly) is already in the article about Velcro. --Eggishorn (talk) 23:21, 17 October 2013 (UTC)

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Safiel (talk) 21:07, 25 December 2013 (UTC)
Deleting templates
editRemoving proposed deletion templates, as you did here, is fine. When you remove the "proposed deletion" templates, please add an {{old prod full}} template to the talk page immediately above the first comment.
Removing a speedy deletion template from an article which you did not create or heavily edit is fine, but be sure you understand the reason why the speedy deletion was placed there to begin with before removing it. In many cases, you may wish to propose it for deletion ("PROD") or nominate it for deletion ("AFD").
Removing a speedy deletion template from an article that you created or which you had a major role in editing is not okay. However, you can "contest" it by clicking on the "contest" button. I don't know if you've ever had an article created by you that has been nominated for speedy deletion, so this may be completely irrelevant to you.
Removing an articles for deletion template while the 7-day discussion is still ongoing, as you did here, is not okay. With rare exceptions, the only times a non-administrator will remove such a template are 1) if he nominated the article for deletion and there is nobody else who supports the deletion and the nominator withdraws the nomination, or 2) if there is nearly-unanimous support for keeping the article and the non-administrator is doing a non-administrator closure. In general, only experienced Wikipedia editors who have significant experience in AFD discussions should do a non-administrative closure. The typical case is that after a week, an administrator will "close" the discussion as either "keep," "no consensus," or "delete," or he may extend the discussion for another week. In the first two cases, the administrator will remove the AFD template from the article and place an {{old AfD multi}} template on the article's talk page. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 05:40, 26 December 2013 (UTC)

The article Riley Hawk (skateboarder) has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this newly created biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article. The nominator also raised the following concern:
- All biographies of living people created after March 18, 2010, must have references.
If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 19:24, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
