Reform Cat
editHello, MikeBeckett, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of the pages you created, such as Reform Cat, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's guidelines, and may soon be deleted.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. The article Reform Cat has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- ephemeral youtube video which got a minor news item in a paper. Only just released and likely to disappear from sight after next week anyway. WP:NOTNEWS.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. noq (talk) 16:00, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:Reform Cat.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:Reform Cat.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Courcelles 03:44, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Courcelles, the image was attached to the Reform cat page (the first page I have created) which was deleted by Admin User:The_Land permission was given for the image to be used (apologies if I did not complete the template properly) but to be of use the Reform Cat page would need to be rescued if this article is salvageable. Would you mind reviewing if the article is salvageable in your opinion if so please assist me in making the picture compliant with Wikipedia guidelines as this is the first picture I have uploaded. If the article is not salvageable the image is probably not worth salvaging. I did put a case together for consideration of saving the page in the talk page of the article but did not contest the delete as a relatively new editor I am still learning the wikinorms and do not wish to break the consensus of more experienced editors at this time. Thank you for your time and consideration of my request. MikeBeckett (talk) 21:45, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

Advice on revealing personal info on Wikipedia
editPlease do not add personal information on Wikipedia. It has ruineda good editorbefore, and, in the event that you also become a good editor, may ruin you too.
Therefore, I ask that your personal information be removed. There's no problem with your contributions or your userpage or anything, but I ask you to take the advice of one of the retired, one of those who trusted the community, and the community took advantage of the trust, and snuffed out HighInBC's Wikipedian involvement like a candle in a hurricane.

Thank you for your help
editHello Mike,
I am relatively new to the whole back end of wikipedia and how it all works. I noticed you help me with a page I created for a company I am just starting at called Locus Technologies. Thank you very much. The new format looks easier and makes it much simpler to read. I also like the more neutral tone.I tried to remove as much bias as I could, but I am still closely involved.
It is amazing to me how you are able to just find time to help others out and that you are doing so all the way across the pond. That's pretty neat. How did you even find our page or know that I had tried to add more reference and stuff. Just hoping to learn more about this whole process / world.
Have a good day, Rick —Precedingunsigned comment added by72.244.167.227 (talk) 17:36, 17 May 2011 (UTC)
Rick my reply
editYou are welcome, some advice.
On the left handside menu you will note the Recent changes sections so I can see what is happening.
Wikipedians care a lot about Notable content from reliable secondary sources wherever possible Conflict of interest and Neutral Point of View. As I am sure you are aware Wikipedia has an ongoing ground war with WikiTrolls. I know that often new editors firstly meet either the deadly WikiVampires or the intimidatingWikiGoon and sometime theWikiPolice. Thanks is always welcome and greases the wheels, you might also want to consider the giving ofBarnstars, interlinking and drafting and working on articles prior to submission in your sandbox having registered for an account, experience, observation and trial and error as well as being adopted and asking questions seem to be the best ways to learn. if you have a registered account and build a profile (number of edits, length of service, quality of work -hopefully all three increase in time) then addition responsibilities may be awarded, your articles are more likely to survive and you can help others.
Kind regards

Hi Mike Beckett
editThank you Mike Beckett for saying Hi! I have read a lot of policies and looked around a lot. I started my first page-Mohammad Shaikh, put it up and within the first day it was taken down. It was really disappointing. I asked for editorial help and instead they took it down. I just don't understand Wikipedia. I am a professional award winning writer, although I am not published. I have not been out of university that long. I still had a little factual editing to do on the page. I have been debating with the editor ever since to put the page back up. He is rude. The deletion process man told me to go to the editor and the editor told me to go back to the deletion process-a circle. I have spent many a day wanting to shoot myself.Mindingthequill (talk) 04:26, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
May I suggest you create your own personal sandbox using this link [1] then can take time to create and craft your Article(s). May I suggest looking at the code of other articles similar to the one you want and copy paste the appropriate bits, use the preview button before going live.
However you need a notable subject with references preferably secondary references and you may well have to provide evidence in the PROD or AFD process as to why your article is particularly notable. Experience and use of {{newpage}} at the top of your code shows you are working on a new page and asks for a little latitude; {{cleanup}} or {{wikify}}asks for help improving article and making it more like a Wikipedia encyclopaedia article; {{stub}} at the bottom asks people to help add to the page; {{references}} at the top of the page asks for help referencing however this said Wikipedia is a DIY project and it takes time to improve.
May I suggest spending time to see what others are doing and helping them with improving other articles as you gain experience see what fits and what doesn't you'll improve and survive what feels like WikiVampire assault, take time to reply to edits, very rarely is it a WikiTrolls usually it is someone with positive intention to make things better by removing substandard articles or edits. The best way to overcome this is through learning and becoming more competent and chasing excellence as we all at first are Wikipedia:Dodo.
All the best, don't be hasty! (and use talkback to make sure people know your talking to them!) Thank you for all of your advice!!!Mindingthequill (talk) 22:04, 19 May 2011 (UTC)User:Mindingthequill (talk) 22:02, 19 May 2011 (UTC) User:MikeBeckett Please do say 'Hi!' 09:44, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

Hi Kudpung, I was wrong, you are right notice has been removed, as the article subject matter is allegedly the colleges creative work and not about the college, I should have used A1 or A2.
A7 guide: A7. No indication of importance (individuals, animals, organizations, web content). An article about a real person, individual animal(s), organization (e.g. band, club, company, etc., except schools),[4] or web content that does not indicate why its subject is important or significant. This is distinct from verifiability and reliability of sources, and is a lower standard than notability. This criterion applies only to articles about web content and to articles about people, organizations, and individual animals themselves, not to articles about their books, albums, software, or other creative works. This criterion does not apply to species of animals, only to individual animal(s). The criterion does not apply to any article that makes any credible claim of significance or importance even if the claim is not supported by a reliable source or does not qualify on Wikipedia's notability guidelines.[5] The criterion does apply if the claim of significance or importance given is not credible. If the claim's credibility is unclear, you can improve the article yourself, propose deletion, or list the article at articles for deletion.

Dreambear Page
editHey Mike,
my name is Anne and I just started today editing on Wiki. My first side was supposed to be about my favorite game but you wanted to delete it immediately. my question is how can i improve my site? I have no experience yet with Wiki and everything seems so complicated... Could you help me please?
Seize the day! Dagreenthing (talk) 13:47, 20 May 2011 (UTC) Hi Anne,
Welcome to Wikipedia I hope you choose to stay. Thank you for your first Article contribution.
Context
editTo clarify to delete an article like Dreambears immediately someone could have used theCriteria for Speedy Deletion(CSD) to propose this they would have used.
The page would then be assessed and possibly deleted by an admin, this has not occurred.
For the record I specifically stated I felt this should not happen so other editors could see what I thought.
The procedure that I suggested and has occurred is Wikipedia:Proposed deletion PROD this gives you 7 days to challenge the decision although my suggestion to you is to delay doing so till you have tweaked your article some more. use of citations<ref>[url goes here| source name, date etc]<ref/> allow you to prove what you say. I have added a references section and the reflist will automatically update when you add them. Once editing the article to sufficient quality to comply with Wikipedia quidelines on reliability and verifiability, the article is likely to last!
Improving the article
editIn answer to your question. Wikipedia is here to provide information to people andDreambear may be a valid article, to prove this the more information you can provide (subject to certain defined limitations on Wikipedias scope), the better. Information on Wikipedia should be Wikipedia:verifiable and must not be Wikipedia:original research. Please show that information is verifiable and not original research by referencing reliable sources. Unsourced information may be challenged and removed, because on Wikipedia a lack of information is better than misleading or false information, to avoid such challenges, the best practice is to provide an "Wikipedia:inline citation" at the time the information is added.
Once you have verifiable sources that are not original research you then need to meet the general Wikipedia:notability guideline I hope this helps, I will have tweak to try to help with categories for you too.

I've declined your speedy as this isn't a recording. Well, it has been recorded many times by various artistes and groups, but it's a broadside ballad. The article is inaccurate in that Raeburn had an 'aged mother' and a sweetheart, and thus was unlikely to be a young boy. Reputedly was a baker, and was transported for theft.http://www.scotsindependent.org/features/singasang/raeburn.htm Could be improved or prodded.Peridon (talk) 17:25, 21 May 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for volunteering to help with assessment! There is anew assessment posted here. There are 25 articles in both this assessment and the next/final assessment. There was a huge amount of content that got added this term, hopefully the randomly selected articles will show it to be high quality. You should see some results from the assessments in the coming months. Please, let me know if you have any comments or questions about research with the Public Policy Initiative. The article Lee Baldry has been proposed for deletion (not by me) because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.
If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask atWikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. TerriersFan (talk) 14:42, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
- Not a surprise, action agreed, I had put notice of clean up needed and the need for references, no action taken so deletion process is appropriate. MikeBeckett 17:50, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
