Dear Miranda,
I just wanted to wish you and your family a happy new year, however you're celebrating it. Whether 2008 was a good year for you, or if it wasn't the greatest year, hopefully 2009 will be better. Cheers, and happy editing in 2009 :-),

Dear Miranda,

Wishing you a happy new year, and very best wishes for 2009. Whether we were friends or not in the past year, I hope 2009 will be better for us both.

Nice userpage at Commons

edit

I noticed your userpage at Commons, and I liked the design so much that I decided to use it for my own userpage as well. This is just to let you know I did so, and if you want to, check it to see if it looks fine, or you wish to tweak the attribution a bit. Maxim(talk) 15:12, 2 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Sure. No problem. I tweak the colors to match your signature. miranda 03:31, 3 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of List of Alpha Kappa Alpha Boulés

edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article List of Alpha Kappa Alpha Boulés, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

List of non notable events, based solely on primary sources.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Reward Board

edit

Could you please remove your latest "reward" on the reward board, because it's canvassing? Thanks. miranda 23:24, 17 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I'll be happy to remove it if it is inappropriate canvassing, but from what I understand, friendly canvassing is okay. I believe my post is appropriate because it is limited (only posted once), neutral (I explained that I don't care whose side the editor is on as long as more people get involved), nonpartisan, and transparent. I appreciate your consideration. Do you still think this is inappropriate? --Eustress (talk) 00:06, 18 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
I'll let someone else handle it. miranda 06:59, 18 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

→Hello again. It appears that you have a problem with some of my recent edits on Wikipedia. I want to do things correctly—both with regards to policy and to ethics. I would like to try to understand your concerns, and either assuage them or learn how reform my behavior accordingly.

With regards to my current challenges on the Board, my latest challenge is with the hope of getting more people involved in WP:FPC—I have recently begun participating there and it is sad to see a candidate fail simply due to the fact that a consensus couldn't be established due to lack of participation. I do have one of my own FPCs there right now, but I have not advertised it at all, and the challenge gives editors the flexibility to review whichever pictures they want (there are literally dozens!). My second challenge is to get help formatting a list so it is in accordance with WP:MOS. It's a key-punching activity (very tedious)—no POV can really be introduced due to the challenge, and editors can learn more about sorting tables and citations. FYI, regarding a potential COI due to this challenge (and for matters of complete transparency), I attended the university affiliated with the list but never graduated, so I'm not sure what external benefits I would expect to receive from a list of alumni of a school I attended for a semester and with which I no longer have any connections. As a member of the University WikiProject, I altruistically want to see university-related articles in good shape.

Again, I value your opinion and want to do what's right. Best regards --Eustress (talk) 02:31, 24 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I do have one of my own FPCs there right now, but I have not advertised it at all.
That's indirect COI. You are promising people a barnstar for people to participate in Featured Pictures, which one is listed which you are currently participating in. You have also done this with a Scouting article which went to Featured Article Review in order to bring attention to the article. A notice on your talk page is fine, but "promising rewards" for participating in a process is not. miranda 04:20, 24 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Maybe I'm dense, but I still don't understand your concerns because you're merely pointing at my behavior and referencing a policy. Why is the FPC issue a COI? (i.e., read through WP:COI and point out where the problem lies and why you think my behavior fits the bill). Regarding the FAR issue, I stated earlier that friendly canvassing is okay per WP:CANVASSING, but I never got an adequate response why you think my actions constituted inappropriate canvassing. So please, get to the point.

The opinion you did offer, concerning the use of reinforcement (using awards) to promote good behaviors, is one in which we disagree and for which there is no consensus on Wikipedia. I think not allowing such activities drives away productive contributors (see WP:DE) who are so motivated. --Eustress (talk) 12:56, 24 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

You are misunderstanding the point. Let me give you an example.

MaryAnn wants her picture to be featured, but doesn't want to SPAM people with talk page notices or spam people on IRC to participate. Instead, she uses awards to influence people to vote yes or no on the FAC. With awards, presumably, people will vote support for the picture and her picture will be featured. She puts a "notice" on the Wikipedia Reward Board to advertise her cause.

Get the point? Good. Let's write. miranda 19:40, 24 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello and Happy New Year Miranda!

I'm not certain where to turn to with this, so I'll start here if I may.

I’m having a bit of a problem due to a discussion of a glamour photographer. I have not gone into my page, nor made any changes since I was told I really shouldn't.

However, because this ‘glamour photographer’ was deleted and resubmitted citing my name as well as Greg Gorman and other notable photographers – my page has been flagged for no seeable reason but his bombardment of using my name?

The original editor http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Optimale had scoured everything. Just because I met this glamour photographer at a lecture – I’m being thrown in by association because he kept mentioning my name in the Talk?

My article (now flagged): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerry_Avenaim

His discussion links: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Rolando_Gomez_(2nd_nomination)#Rolando_Gomez

Now there is a “Talk” page on me because of him http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Jerry_Avenaim. In question (I don’t know why) takegreatpictures.com - is owned by Popular Photography and American Photo magazines.

Because of this photographer Rolando, I am brought into question? Why Bali would remove The Mamiya Master Showcase, Lexar Elite Photographer Awards etc. It makes no sense. These are much like the Kodak Icon award, and editor Bali states it’s just a sponsor?

I have added more source below if needed. Also another one I don’t understand being removed as a source is Photo Insider magazine? I have put their main page link below as well.
