Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. We as a community are glad to have you and thank you for creating a user account! Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Yes some of the links appear a bit boring at first, but they are VERY helpful if you ever take the time to read them.

Remember to place any articles you create into a category so we don't get orphans.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, please be sure to sign your name on Talk and vote pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, or three tildes (~~~) for just your name. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome.

List of Unusual personal names

edit

Hello, Carnildo ! Why did you remove my additions on the List of unusual personal names, claiming they were "unsourced" ? There is a wikipedia entry for all of them, so I think they are all pretty well sourced. Mrbluesky 06:47, 23 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

It is sourced that people with those names exist, yes, but I didn't find any sources for the names being considered unusual. Further, one of the names, Smush Parker, appears to be a nickname, and nicknames are supposed to be unusual. --Carnildo 07:43, 23 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
Good point for Smush Parker, but how could I prove that Picabo or World (or, for that matter, Zowie) are unusual ? How many Picaboes do you know ? The only thing I could do would be to produce statistics sorted by names given to babies Mrbluesky 13:48, 23 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
You don't. You just need to prove that they are considered unusual. Most of the names on the list cite newspaper articles on the unusualness of the name. --Carnildo 18:39, 23 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Jim King (basketball)

edit

Hey, thanks for your help with the Olympic basketball articles. I'd just like to point out, though, that this Jim King was already playing pro ball by 1968, and thus could not have participated in the Olympics. It must have been another guy with the same name, of whom I know nothing about. Zagalejo 20:33, 22 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

List of famous tall men

edit

Hiya, have you read the discussion pages? The page has been submitted for deletion twice now, so in an effort to stop this and to stop the list from reaching unwieldy proportions an admin suggested that all the ppl need sources. Wiki isn't included as a source. Look at a few of the name with a source. We are trying to add them for all, but any new ppl do need a source with them, so you can add whomever, so long as you dig up a good source to add as a reference. hope this helps;o)Halbared 21:54, 25 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

[1] I've reverted my...revert. Since the IP was dynamic, I assumed that the edit was vandalism, as my of those types of IPs are. I guess I misjudged that, and shouldn't have reverted it. Sorry! --The Great Llama talk 23:06, 3 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Eighth wonder of the world

edit

Yes, it's a goofy article, but there's goofiness and goofiness. Simpsons references (like Pokemon) ooze throughout wikipedia like a plague - if I may mix metaphors - and must be contained! But you're right, all the examples should probably be tossed out. Perhaps my erasure will start something. - DavidWBrooks 22:48, 8 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

List of Muslim converts

edit

I can see the problem. I can either switch it back, or leave as is (and recognize Muslims conerted to Christianity as List of Muslims converted to Christianity, but that may be too long and say that they were Muslim, then went Christianity, then went back to being Muslims). Maybe it's best to switch back. Pronoun 06:46, 9 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I think many people have tried to discard this claim, but he told Usa today very clearly that he wants to go for Hajj in Mecca. You can find both links on his article i.e. his conversion from IMDB and his interview by USA today. Cheers! --TruthSpreaderTalk 04:54, 10 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
I myself wouldn't consider him as a Muslim if everybody could go to Mecca. The fact is that no one can go to Mecca unless he confesses himself to be a Muslim. This is the only point which intrigued me. This can also be his wish i.e. wish to be a Muslim and then go to Mecca! What is your assessment of statement from IMDB? And do you know any reliable source in which will smith confesses not to be a Muslim? Cheers! --TruthSpreaderTalk 06:31, 10 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
I am convinced. Cheers! TruthSpreaderTalk 02:49, 18 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Rasheed Wallace in List of Muslim Converts

edit

Hi FayssalF! You restored our good friend Rasheed Wallace in the above-mentioned article, providing a source. However, while it is almost certain Wallace is a Muslim, the doubts point is thus: is he a convert, or was he born a Muslim? The source you provided established him a Muslim, but does not claim he has ever converted... What do you think? Regards. Mrbluesky 15:01, 17 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi, salut and hola Mrbluesky. That's correct. Thanks for the note. -- Szvest - Wiki me up ® 15:43, 17 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
I've read you quick (and polite!)feedback. I have reverted the article accordingly. Thanks, and shukran! Mrbluesky 16:00, 17 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re: RC Strasbourg

I agree a list should be in the article, or in a separate one, but a list without a rationale is inherently point-of-view. See List of Liverpool F.C. players or List of notable Blackpool F.C. players (the latter of which I created), for example. - Dudesleeper / Talk 22:24, 6 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Islamic view of anal sex

edit

Peace be with you Mrbluesky,

Just saw your message and thought I'd reply here.
Well for starters, the two references given for the claim that the Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani deemed it permissible but undesirable are:-

  • 1. http://brentrasmussen.com/log/taxonomy/term/11
    • This one leads to someone's (do lemme know if he's a well-known figure in anyway) personal website (hate-Islam BLOG???) and I for one couldn't find any reference to the topic on that page for sure.
  • 2. http://www.gnxp.com/MT2/archives/002816.html
    • This one's an even more weird a reference w.r.t the topic. There's just ONE line there that says UPDATE: The Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani knows how to distinguish between disapproval and prohibition, at least on some issues (a CTRL+F search for 'Ayatollah' would lead you to this line easily). There are two hyperlinks, one on 'some' and the other on 'issues'; both of lead to HTTP404 pages.

I think a bit more of credible evidence to support the claim that I undid (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Islamic_view_of_anal_sex&diff=216920845&oldid=216834059) would be helpful here.

I see you've undid my revision, and I'd surely like to hear you out too for the reason behind that. Please feel free to leave me a message. Hoping to hear from you InshaAllah(Arabic word meaning 'God-Willing').

P.S. I'm not laying claim that I KNOW if the topic we're talking about is permissible or not ACCORDING TO AYATOLLAH ALI ALI-SISTANI (Boldened-Caps because I know for sure from verifiable resources that it is forbidden in Islam, but I cannot say I know what the Ayatollah said). The only reason I undid that change was because I believe that the basic idea behind the usage of references (i.e. testable evidences for a claim) on Wikipedia is the same as what has been revealed in the Qur'an more than 14 centuries back (and still holds true):- O you who have believed, if there comes to you information, investigate (before passing it on), lest you harm a people out of ignorance and become, over what you have done, regretful (The Quran, Chapter:49 Verse:6 http://www.quranexplorer.com/quran/)

Peace,

edit

Hey it's me ( 'Abd el 'Azeez (talk) 05:57, 4 June 2008 (UTC) ) again. :-) Thought I'd tell you that in case you think my thoughts in the above message make sense, please either revert the article back to what I had left it as, or probably add a [citation needed] tag after removing the two references to that line about the Ayatollah.Reply

Peace

Thanks. How bout some help?

edit

Hey there,
I was wondering that if I remove the links it might seem like there's a revert-war going on between you and me. People might get wrong ideas you see... How bout if you remove those links now since your last edits say they don't seem POV. Hope you do that InshaAllah.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
