Right. The headline reads "sign", but the text of that page reads "have come to terms". That's a different animal. The deal is not official, and could be voided if he fails a physical exam. – Muboshgu (talk) 13:26, 13 February 2015 (UTC)

Prolific

Teach me English, I didn't think so far of "prolific" as a peacock-term, I thought it factually describes that a composer wrote a lot, specifically in different genres. Why would you? - I confess that I dislike tags on the article of a person who died today, - could you replace the word by a better one if needed, instead of a tag? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:17, 13 February 2015 (UTC)

I just quickly clicked on the page and don't really have time to edit. I do agree that it's generally better to make the change than to add a tag, though, but I tagged as I expect others to do the improvements. "Prolific" strikes me as incredibly similar to the examples listed at WP:PEACOCK, such as "legendary" and "acclaimed". – Muboshgu (talk) 17:33, 13 February 2015 (UTC)

Cousins

My updates on the Cousins page were accurate. If this page is not going to include the role the Cousins play had in Experimental Rule 7.13 then he probably doesn't merit a wikipedia page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 160.129.210.26 (talk) 16:38, 17 February 2015 (UTC)

That part is fine, but it needs a reliable source, and your edit also deleted other information, which is why I undid it. – Muboshgu (talk) 16:42, 17 February 2015 (UTC)

February 2015

Please don't change the format of dates, as you did to Robin Raphel. As a general rule, if an article has evolved using predominantly one format, the dates should be left in the format they were originally written in, unless there are reasons for changing it based on strong national ties to the topic. Please also note that Wikipedia does not use ordinal suffixes (e.g., st, nd, th), articles, or leading zeros on dates.

For more information about how dates should be written on Wikipedia, please see this page.

If you have any questions about this, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Enjoy your time on Wikipedia. Thank you. Prhartcom (talk) 21:10, 17 February 2015 (UTC)

@Prhartcom: The article as I saw it uses inconsistent dating, and yeah, there's a "strong" national tie to the United States as she's worked as a high-level government official. It should be mdy format. – Muboshgu (talk) 21:14, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
Hi Muboshgu. I am surprised to see a discussion of something so small as this, and I was certainly surprised to see the date script run right on top of my own running of the date script. Per guidelines, if an article has evolved using predominantly one format, the dates should be left in the format they were originally written. It is not appropriate for an editor to change to the date format they prefer. MOS:TIES does not overrule that, and is certainly not meant to be used as an argument to change to a date format an editor prefers. In this case, the article used both ISO and dmy formats in its references and used mdy formats (the U.S. format), in its article body. When I ran the date script, I kept to this, making sure the references were consistently the dmy format as established already in the article and ensured the body date formats were left alone. If you'd like, we can continue this discussion on the article talk page, but really this is too small an issue to fight over. Cheers.

WikiCup 2015 March newsletter

One of several of Godot13's quality submissions during round 1

That's it, the first round is done, sign-ups are closed and we're into round 2. 64 competitors made it into this round, and are now broken into eight groups of eight. The top two of each group will go through to round 3, and then the top scoring 16 "wildcards" across all groups. Round 1 saw some interesting work on some very important articles, with the round leader   Freikorp (submissions) owing most of his 622 points scored to a Featured Article on the 2001 film Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within which qualified for a times-two multiplier. This is a higher score than in previous years, as   Godot13 (submissions) had 500 points in 2014 at the end of round 1, and our very own judge,   Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) led round 1 with 601 points in 2013.

In addition to Freikorp's work, some other important articles and pictures were improved during round one, here's a snapshot of a few of them:

You may also wish to know that The Core Contest is running through the month of March. Head there for further details - they even have actual prizes!

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! Minnie Minoso true age

Minnie Minoso was born November 29,1922. He stated this fact at a baseball card show in Chicago when asked his true age in front of 30 people. He was told to shave off 3 years of his true age to be a better prospect to reach Major league baseball when he first came to America. If you change it to 1925 i will instantly reverse your vandalism as it is not his correct age. SO LEAVE IT ALONE. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:D:A500:2A1:D93B:A427:B670:6BBF (talk) 15:59, 2 March 2015 (UTC)

Provide a reliable source for this, please. – Muboshgu (talk) 16:02, 2 March 2015 (UTC)

The source is the words of Minnie Minoso himself. Like it says, are you a dumbass that cant read. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:D:A500:2A1:D93B:A427:B670:6BBF (talk) 16:07, 2 March 2015 (UTC)

Edit warring and calling someone a "dumbass that cant read" are not constructive ways to address this, and will see you blocked from editing. You claim that he said he was born in 1922, but you show us no proof. All of the obits posted yesterday, and most reliable sources ever published, use 1925 as his year of birth, and so do we, whether it's accurate or not. Wikipedia is about "verifiability, not truth". – Muboshgu (talk) 16:13, 2 March 2015 (UTC)

Minnie Minoso made the claim of his birth being November 29, 1922. I claim nothing but being a witness with 30 other people at a card show when he made this statement. As it is his claim and his birthday he should know better than anyone else. Now leave it alone you vandal. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:d:a500:2a1:d93b:a427:b670:6bbf (talk) 11:22, March 2, 2015‎

You're not listening. Wikipedia works on the policy of verifiability, which comes from reliable sources. You saying that Minoso said something at a trade show doesn't pass muster. – Muboshgu (talk) 16:41, 2 March 2015 (UTC)

Minnie Miñoso's year of birth, redux

Some sources for his YOB being 1922 include

1. His USA Today Obituary (per the Chicago White Sox), which addresses the age discrepancy. [3]

2. The Negro League Baseball Museum Website, as listed in his article. [4]

3. The Bio section of his Official Facebook Page. "Minnie Miñoso, born Saturnino Orestes Armas Miñoso Arrieta, on November 29, 1922 in Havana, Cuba is a former star left fielder in Major League Baseball." [5] BurienBomber (talk) 20:50, 2 March 2015 (UTC)

It's discrepant information. The Facebook page also says "Start Info: Born on November 29, 1925". B Ref gives it as 1925. There's no clear right answer here. – Muboshgu (talk) 20:59, 2 March 2015 (UTC)

My name is Shannon Haviland and I have done work for an organization called Global Sporting Integration. One of our clients name is Kyeong Kang and we have been trying to edit and update his information on his wiki page we created, however, the new information that we implement into the page always seems to be deleted and reverted back to an older version. We received a message from Muboshgu and were wondering how we could resolve this issue. Please let me know.

I don't think sourcing something to your website is appropriate, as you have indicated that this is on behalf of a client. Game of Thrones (Season 5) and WP:Spoilers

Hi Muboshgu, regarding this undo: [6] "WP:SPOILER: we don't delete spoilers just because they're spoilers". Yes, WP:SPOILER makes clear that the policy is that information should not be removed just because it's a spoiler. However, it also says that "When including spoilers, editors should make sure that an encyclopedic purpose is being served." I would argue that the same encyclopedic information is provided spoiler-free in my rewording of the paragraph. Thoughts? --Padenton (talk) 23:44, 6 March 2015 (UTC)

Infobox MLB

I notice that Cincinnati Reds is in the error-tracking category Category:Pages using duplicate arguments in template calls. This is caused by the infobox parameter |y3= being used more than once. Unfortunately the combination of my deplorable ignorance of baseball and the poor documentation at Template:Infobox MLB means I'm unable to fix the problem. Perhaps you can help? Orioles roster

Jett Ruiz is listed as a coach. 72.178.86.254 (talk) 20:27, 24 April 2015 (UTC)

No, he's listed as "staff", which means he isn't automatically notable. Since there's no article for him, and there isn't likely to be one at any point, there's no reason to include him in these templates. – Muboshgu (talk) 20:29, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
WP is very selective on bullpen catchers, don't you think? 72.178.86.254 (talk) 20:30, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
We are becoming more selective, as most of them really don't have the reliable sources to establish notability. Rudy Árias (catcher) is an exception. – Muboshgu (talk) 20:33, 24 April 2015 (UTC)

Cops killing citizens

Interesting that you bring up Arab Spring, because I was thinking that there is some comparison. I'm not sure what to call this recent phenomenon. I don't recall any title given to it by news media. But there might be an umbrella term for it, if we look for it. The best I can come up with at the moment are a couple of slogans: "Black lives matter!" and "Hands up! Don't shoot!" I'm not so sure those slogans have long-term traction. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots02:47, 28 April 2015 (UTC)

A recent Time magazine cover says "Black lives matter."[7] I'm still not sure a slogan is a proper title for an article, but it would be a starting point. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots02:53, 28 April 2015 (UTC)
A Kos article from 2012, which cites a Chicago Tribune investigation, calls the trend "shooting the suspect".[8]Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots02:56, 28 April 2015 (UTC)
I suppose the lack of a formal name makes this challenging from the start, but I'll think on it and do some research. – Muboshgu (talk) 12:56, 28 April 2015 (UTC)

Charlotte Mckinney DOB

What is your interest in constantly falsifying Charlotte's DOB? I am not sure i understand your intentions. Is there an issue with her displaying her true age and DOB? She was born in 93 not 91. I am her manager. I have her ID's. I have cited a source yet you continue to change. Why? Modshop (talk) 19:07, 30 April 2015 (UTC)

We have no way of knowing which DOB is correct, so until we can verify it, the best course of action is to leave it blank. You can say you have her IDs, but I have no way of verifying that. I could say that I'm really Barack Obama, but you can't confirm or deny that either. – Muboshgu (talk) 19:21, 30 April 2015 (UTC)

WikiCup 2015 May newsletter

C/2014 Q2 (Lovejoy) is a long-period comet discovered on 17 August 2014 by Terry Lovejoy; and is one of several Featured Pictures worked up by   The Herald (submissions) during the second round.

The second round one has all wrapped up, and round three has now begun! Congratulations to the 34 contestants who have made it through, but well done and thank you to all contestants who took part in our second round. Leading the way overall was   Cas Liber (submissions) in Group B with a total of 777 points for a variety of contributions including Good Articles on Corona Borealis and Microscopium - both of which received the maximum bonus.

Special credit must be given to a number of high importance articles improved during the second round.

The points varied across groups, with the lowest score required to gain automatic qualification was 68 in Group A - meanwhile the second place score in Group H was 404, which would have been high enough to win all but one of the other Groups! As well as the top two of each group automatically going through to the third round, a minimum score of 55 was required for a wildcard competitor to go through. We had a three-way tie at 55 points and all three have qualified for the next round, in the spirit of fairness. The third round ends on June 28, with the top two in each group progressing automatically while the remaining 16 highest scorers across all four groups go through as wildcards. Good luck to all competitors for the third round! Figureskatingfan (talk · contribs · email), Miyagawa (talk · contribs · email) and Sturmvogel 66 (talk · contribs · email) 16:39, 4 May 2015 (UTC)

Byron Buxton

Hi, first time editor here. I was just curious if you could explain why you removed a large portion of my submission on Byron Buxton's wiki with the explanation "trim some cruft." I believe that the information shared was not only relevant, factual, and cited, but is also very interesting.

Thanks for taking the time to respond in advance, Adam Anking4 (talk) 21:34, 5 May 2015 (UTC)

"Cruft" was not the best descriptive to use, in hindsight. You did make some good additions there, especially the info on his son that I did not know he had. The issue is that the language we use on Wikipedia needs to be neutral and there are "words to watch". So, phrases like " there were plenty of legends and stories" and "Another locally infamous story" are to be avoided. Also, the story about him throwing a football 82 yards doesn't seem important, and the coach's quote about it is definitely not necessary. I hope that explains my thinking. Please ask any follow-up questions you have, since Wikipedia would be stronger if you stay and continue editing. (It does take some time to learn the ropes.) – Muboshgu (talk) 23:26, 5 May 2015 (UTC)
