Kate Sheppard

edit

Hi Mary! I see there are currently discussions on improving Kate Sheppard up to FA class. It's now rated B Class. If you are interested, you should perhaps liaise with Gadfium and Shudde. The first objective will of course be to bring the article up to GA. That process should give some indication of what more needs to be done. Maybe SusunW could also lend a helping hand.--Ipigott (talk) 12:34, 15 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Just a little thing, I noticed you moved Dave Holland's entry to the 16th. I think normally entries are posted on the date of announcement if there's more than a three (ish) day difference between the announcement and the actual death. The 16th was already the second-to-last day when his death was announced, and it didn't give time for discussion. -A lad insane (Channel 2) 04:35, 27 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Add pageant winners to notability guidelines?

edit

Hello, I saw that you were a part of Women in Red and I hope you don't mind me asking a question. I believe that pageant winners are notable people, but unlike sports players I feel they're often considered "not important" enough, even though pageants are extremely important to a large part of the population, including mostly women. I was wondering if you knew of a way to get pageant winners added to Wikipedia's official notability guidelines? That way you don't end up with situations like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Cherise_Haugen

In any case, I appreciate all the work you do, and I understand you must be very busy and may not have time to respond. Have a great day :) Lonehexagon (talk) 18:41, 11 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Brenda Heather-Latu

edit

The article Brenda Heather-Latu has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Kleuske (talk) 09:47, 6 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Kleuske, you prodded the article the very minute it appeared in mainspace. I don't know whether you have read Wikipedia:New pages patrol (NPP) but in case you haven't, it says near the top:

Care should be exercised when reviewing very new pages. Tagging anything other than attack pages, copyvios, vandalism or complete nonsense only a few minutes after creation may stop the creation of a good faith article and drive away a new contributor.

You can only comply with that if you look at the article history before doing anything. Had you looked at that, you would have seen that the article had been created that very minute. Advice elsewhere on the new pages patrol page suggests that you should wait 10 or 15 minutes since the last edit before you do anything. Please bear that in mind for future NPP. Schwede66 18:58, 6 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Schwede66: I applied PRODBLP as is required by policy (WP:BLP), since the article did not contain any sources and it's a biography of a living person. That's followed by a seven day grace period in which sources can be added and the template removed. PSince I'm not a New Page Patroller, the blurb above does not apply. As an encore,, I you wish to berate me about my work here, I'd much prefer you do that on my talk page. Thanks. Kleuske (talk) 19:15, 6 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
Besides.... Since the originator of the article is active since 2015, they can reasonably be expected to be familiar with the basics of WP:V and WP:BLP. Kleuske (talk) 19:28, 6 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
As per @Kleuske:'s request, continuing this discussion on his/her talk page. MurielMary (talk) 23:49, 6 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hey MurielMary, I saw that you're trying to improve this article and you pulled the PROD from it. As it stands, I'm inclined to take this thing to AfD. This is a BLP, and at the moment it's sourced to a press release and a conference bio. I don't think this article is long for the world with references like that. What do you think? If there's more good references out there I won't take it to AfD. A Traintalk 11:36, 29 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Andra Samoa

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Andra Samoa requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://www.spc.int/sdp/70-inspiring-pacific-women/andra-samoa. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
