Help me publish the article on Craftsvilla
How to publish my article in the public domain?
This help request has been answered. If you need more help, you can , contact the responding user(s) directly on their user talk page, or consider visiting the Teahouse. |
Hi, I created the Wikipedia page for Craftsvilla a few days ago. Due to issues with the links, the article was proposed for deletion. As per your suggestion, I have relinked articles that are not PR generated stories by the company. This company is another e-commerce site like Jabong, Myntra and others. These companies have a Wikipedia page. Please guide me what is wrong with the Craftsvilla article now. I have avoided any kind of bias in the article. The tone is neutral. I would really like to sort this issue at the earliest. Please help me with this urgently.
Thank you. Aditi.ray (talk) 15:20, 16 April 2016 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) I'd say some of the main issues are pointed out in the maintenance tags at the top of the page: The article's tone still is somewhat promotional and not the dry, factual tone we're aiming for, and it's unclear which of the references support which of the article's content. The inline external links should be gotten rid of; if those are reliable third-party sources, they should be turned into footnotes (see Help:Referencing for beginners on how to easily create nicely-formatted footnotes); otherwise they should be removed outright. There's also a deletion discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Craftsvilla; you may want to look up the arguments put forward in favor of deleting and keeping the article as inspiration for further improvement. Ok thank you but another question is that how we can check that who is online at wikipedia now?Adnan Yasin Sarsi Sahib (talk) 09:40, 2 May 2016 (UTC)daani
- @Adnan Yasin Sarsi Sahib: Wikipedia does not have a feature that lists online users. Some users will put their online status on their user page, but most do not. The best guess as to whether someone is active at the moment is to see how recently they've made any edits by checking their contributions at Special:Contributions. Thank you for bringing this to my attention
It was not my intent to create issues or a COI, however, I don't understand the instructions on how to suggest an edit v. actually editing. Please advise. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lfriedman315 (talk • contribs) 18:27, 10 June 2016 (UTC)
- @Lfriedman315: Thanks for your message. Every article has an associated talk page, where editors can discuss the article. This is accessed by clicking "Talk" at the top of the page when viewing the article. On the talk page, you can make recommendations for changes, and you can call attention to your request by using a template: see Template:Request edit for instructions. Also, please read WP:PAID and know that, per the WMF's Terms of Use, you are required to publicly disclosed when editing as part of your employment or when being paid to edit Wikipedia. Cheers, Nick—Contact/Contribs 20:30, 10 June 2016 (UTC)
Hi, Im new to wikipedia and have been learning about process of page creation as I go. I was assigned to make a wikipedia page of a deceased artist in proxy of my employer. Many files used have been listed for speedy deletion because of copyright issues, however we own all copyrights to all the files being used. My question is how do we prove that we own the copyright and give permission to have these files uploaded to wikipedia? Sincerely, Lucy — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lucyndalin (talk • contribs) 20:07, 10 June 2016 (UTC)
- @Lucyndalin: Hello. First and foremost, please read WP:PAID. You are required by the WMF's Terms of Use to disclose that you are editing as part of your paid employment. Please take care of that, and then let's discuss the images. You say that the company owns the copyrights to the images in question. Is it the company's intent to release the images under the terms of this license: Wikipedia:Text of Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License? That's what you claimed when you uploaded the files. Doing so allows anyone to reuse the images for absolutely any purpose, including their own commercial purposes, and requires only that the copyright owner be attributed. Saying "the files can be used on Wikipedia", "the files can be used for educational purposes", and/or "the files can be used for any non-commercial purpose" is not good enough. It must be allowed that the files be manipulated and subsequently reused for any purpose. If that is truly what the company wants to do with the artwork (it often isn't), then I can give you guidance on how you'd go about proving that. Cheers, Nick—Contact/Contribs 20:20, 10 June 2016 (UTC)
Nick,
Thank you for brining this to our attention. I have just read WP:PAID and will provide what is required. I also will discuss with my employers the copyrights and conditions of image use. In the meantime, can the files already uploaded be deleted from wikipedia? Also, do the images we provide for free use need to be high resolution/quality? We apologize for our lack of understanding.
Sincerely,
Lucy — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lucyndalin (talk • contribs) 20:55, 10 June 2016 (UTC)
- @Lucyndalin: Thanks for your reply. All of the artwork has already been deleted by an admin on Commons (Commons is technically separate from Wikipedia; but they are sister projects). There are 4 images remaining. See https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:ListFiles/Lucyndalin for a list of files remaining. They're tagged with a delayed deletion template which would result in their deletion in 7 days if proof of permission is not provided. If you'd like them deleted sooner, you'll need to edit each of the file description pages on Commons and add the following code:
{{SDG7}}

Fresno County Sheriff's Office
What's wrong with updating the wikipedia page for FSO? The previous one was super innaccurate and outdated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Deputy Philly (talk • contribs) 05:40, 18 June 2016 (UTC)
- @Deputy Philly: Hi, thanks for the message. If you're asking me about why I've tagged the images over on the Commons (which is separate from Wikipedia), it's because they are clearly images with prior publication, and lack a permissions email on-file. See c:COM:OTRS for info on how to provide permission for the files. If you're asking me about why the FSO page has been nominated for deletion, you'll need to visit Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Fresno County Sheriff's Office. I wasn't the one who nominated it. You may wish to reach out to Drmies. I can tell you, though, that Wikipedia articles should simply be a summary of what reliable sources, independent of the subject itself (like newspapers, magazines, etc) have to say about the subject. They shouldn't include information that is only included in the organization's own website; and, they ought not to resemble the organization's own website. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a website hosting provider. Cheers, Nick—Contact/Contribs 05:49, 18 June 2016 (UTC)
Page mover granted
Hello, NickW557. Your account has been granted the "extendedmover" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect, and move subpages when moving the parent page(s).
Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving redirect. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when suppressredirect
is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password. As with all user rights, be aware that if abused, or used in controversial ways without consensus, your page mover status can be revoked.
Useful links:
- Wikipedia:Requested moves
- Category:Articles to be moved, for article renaming requests awaiting action.
If you do not want the page mover right anymore, post here, or just let me know. Thank you, and happy editing! Widr (talk) 21:17, 25 June 2016 (UTC)

Dear Nick,
Thank you for your message. In the days ahead I will add reliable and verifiable sources and references.
Question: How many verifiable references do you recommend? Is one for each section sufficient?
Devorahanna (talk) 03:41, 13 July 2016 (UTC)Devora
- @Devorahanna: Thanks for your reply. There is no minimum really, as long as each fact in the article is verified by a reliable source. So, if one source will verify everything that's stated in a particular section, then citing one source for that section is sufficient. If there would be any content remaining in that section which is unsourced, then the unsourced content should be removed, or, an additional source added to the section that verifies the remaining content. I hope that makes sense. Let me know if you have any other questions. Cheers, and happy editing, Nick—Contact/Contribs 04:35, 13 July 2016 (UTC)

There's nothing wrong with including an admission at IRC as long as you don't reveal any personal identifying information about the user, even if they included that information in their chatting. An IRC admission, though, would be of limited value. On-wiki behavioral evidence is better.--Bbb23 (talk) 14:13, 27 September 2016 (UTC)

New Page Review needs your help
Hi NickW557,
As an AfC reviewer you're probably aware that a new user right has been created for patrolling new pages (you might even have been granted the right already, and admins have it automatically).
Since July there has been a very serious backlog at Special:NewPagesFeed of over 14,000 pages, by far the worst since 2011, and we need an all out drive to get this back down to just a few hundred that can be easily maintained in the future. Unlike AfC, these pages are already in mainspace, and the thought of what might be there is quite scary. There are also many good faith article creators who need a simple, gentle push to the Tea House or their pages converted to Draft rather than being deleted.
Although New Page Reviewing can occasionally be somewhat more challenging than AfC, the criteria for obtaining the right are roughly the same. The Page Curation tool is even easier to use than the Helper Script, so it's likely that most AfC reviewers already have more than enough knowledge for the task of New Page Review.
It is hoped that AfC reviewers will apply for this right at WP:PERM and lend a hand. You'll need to have read the page at WP:NPR and the new tutorial.

ArbCom 2018 election voter message
Hello, NickW557. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 14:56, 16 August 2024 (UTC) Replaceable non-free use File:Eugene M Locke.jpgThanks for uploading File:Eugene M Locke.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of non-free use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject). If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
