Speedy deletion nomination of File:Marian-University-School-of-Nursing.JPG

edit

A tag has been placed on File:Marian-University-School-of-Nursing.JPG requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the file appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hi Whpq! Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Is there anyway to cite images on external sites to make them usable and compliant with copyright guidelines? NurseEducator (talk) 20:51, 20 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure what you mean by "cite images on external sites to make them usable and compliant with copyright guidelines". If you are asking if there is a way to directly link the image from another web site so it would display in the article, then the answer is no. Displayed images need to be from uploaded files to either the English Wikipedia, or from Commons, a repository for all the other language Wikipedias. If you are asking what type of license to apply that would allow the image to be used, then in the case of the university building image you uploaded, you can request permisson from the copyright holder. If you have questions about image copyrights and licensing, Wikipedia:Media copyright questions is a good place to get your questions answered. I hope this helps. -- Whpq (talk) 11:45, 21 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi Chetsford! Thank you so much for your direction. I have posted an inquiry in the Teahouse space. I look forward to resubmitting my article. Thank you again! NurseEducator (talk) 14:07, 17 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

NurseEducator - that's no problem. Please do let me know if I can be of any assistance or if you have any questions. Chetsford (talk) 14:09, 17 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
Chetsford I've updated some of my sources and changed most of the HTML to wiki mark-up. Is there something else you would recommend changing? I've made sure that the links in the body of the article are either citations or internal wikilinks. Thank you for your assistance! NurseEducator (talk) 14:44, 18 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
NurseEducator - thanks so much, it's looking great! There are a just a few other things. The requirement for approving an AfC is that it be likely to pass a deletion discussion. Part of what editors look for is if there are sources that are WP:INDEPENDENT of the subject. Right now, almost the entire article is sourced to Marian University itself. Those sources outside of Marian, in some cases, have broken links (e.g. tn.gov), or simply establish that the school exists (e.g. nln.org) but don't add WP:CORPDEPTH. Can you find a few more sources that provide substantive coverage of the LSON (like the radio station and newspaper articles you already have in there)? Also, I would axe the entire programs section or trim it to maybe 3-4 sentences establishing what degrees are offered; currently it appears to be a course catalog and not an encyclopedia article. I would reference the Western University of Health Sciences for an ideal article construction and layout. Finally, there are some passages in here that seem promotional, for examples this: "for first-time test takers was 87.94% (National Rate = 87.80%), 93.4% in 2015 (National Rate = 87.49%)" which is making a value comparison between LSON and other schools. Chetsford (talk) 15:08, 18 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Chetsford, I've updated more sources. I think 3 of them are still from Marian, but I wanted to make sure to cite the dates for everything. I've also updated that broken link. Per your suggestion, I've shortened the programs section to feature their basic functions and where they can be pursued. I am still concerned about the article passing a deletion discussion but I do think that the information regarding this school of nursing is beneficial/helpful to the community. Do you have further suggestions or major things that are still sticking out? NurseEducator (talk) 18:39, 18 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

NurseEducator - the degree section is very long and reads like a course catalog or college recruiting website instead of an encyclopedia article. Also, on closer examination of some of the sources, there are some issues. For instance, the source cited to the Chicago Tribune doesn't actually mention the School of Nursing (understandably, as it's used to support a different statement, but that may still impact the school's notability). I've put together an alternate version here that I think may pass AfC: User:Chetsford/sandbox1. If you don't mind, how about I submit both your current version and the version I made at AfC and see if there's someone will to create it. Best case scenario is they go with your version, medium case scenario is they go with mine, worst case is it gets rejected. Thank you very much, in advance, for all the time and effort you've put in to navigating Wikipedia's sometimes arcane policies and procedures. Chetsford (talk) 23:15, 18 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
ChetsfordThank you so much for all of your help! I hope to submit more articles in the future and your guidance will no doubt make the creation of those much better. NurseEducator (talk) 15:03, 19 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
