Hi Parker
Hey You

Hope you're enjoying this class as much as I am! Good luck with recruitment this week!
Feedback on edits from Dr. V
editHi, User:Parkerstinski. Your interest in Mexico, children, and poverty is one that I'm sure offers great potential. The articles you list are not adequate for your proposal. Mexico Public Schools is a district in Missouri. Children in Mexico is a category of articles. Please spend time looking and carefully selecting an article to edit or write. Please search for an article on youth rather than on children.
- Edit on hybridity article was well referenced. Wording had a double negative and needed significant edits.
- You made a start, but keep working to edit and review with care.Prof.Vandegrift (talk) 03:42, 14 September 2015 (UTC)
Feedback on article interest
editUser:Parkerstinski I think your previous research in Cannabis will prove to be of great help in this project. I am looking forward to seeing how you connect Cannabis dependence and youth. It is definitely something that effects youth in many areas, so it may be helpful to narrow down your location. Cheers MHDU (talk) 02:39, 18 September 2015 (UTC)
Feedback on article topic
editHi Parker, I think your choice of topic is great! This is a very timely issue that does effect many people so I think you are definitely on the right track. I think if you are having trouble finding research about this topic because it is such a new issue, you could always relate this to youth and drug use in general. You could also potentially edit Substance abuse prevention and Drug education and focus on if these programs are effective for youth. Good luck! Jennakor (talk) 19:01, 18 September 2015 (UTC)
Feedback
editHi Parker!
I think your topic would be super interesting to learn about. Especially with the legalization of marijuana in some areas, and not in others. Your prior research gives you a good start and I can't wait to hear about it!
Ideas
editAs we discussed, check out Legality of cannabis. I suggest you work on something like Minors and legality of cannabis if you can find enough to make this notable. Prof.Vandegrift (talk) 18:55, 21 September 2015 (UTC)
Your Proposal
editHi, PS- You have a good start with your proposal. I'm glad to see that you have started looking for articles. I believe that magazine articles and policy papers will help broaden your resources. Be sure to document the basics: what are the laws about cannabis use for minors in these places? What are the rates of use and their interactions with cannabis? Of course, the topics you will discuss will be guided by what kinds of information you find.
As we've mentioned, a global perspective includes both examples from outside of the the U.S. and also a global framing of the topic. I would also consider Uruguay as a country, as it has an article Cannabis in Uruguay. Be sure to pore over very carefully the entire cannabis portal!!!
What do you imagine the sub-sections being?
Onward, Prof.Vandegrift (talk) 03:29, 5 October 2015 (UTC)
- Hi, Dr. V!
- Subsections in this article will consist of Youth in the United States and the legality of cannabis, Youth in Uruguay and the legality of cannabis, and Youth in the Netherlands and the legality of cannabis. The titles of these subsections seem kind of wordy at this point, so I plan on fixing those. But within these subsections, I hope to have subsections on the current law, how prevalent the use among youth is, and how it has changed depending the current laws in that are in place. Also, thank you for pointing out cannabis portal to me. Do you think it is a wikipedia page I should try and link my research to? --Parkerstinski (talk) 05:18, 9 October 2015 (UTC)
- Hi, PS - Great job on sources - I will give feedback on those, below. It's time to think about the lead paragraph. What will your overall framing be? I suggest calling the subsections ″National laws″, perhaps, like you see in articles like abortion law.Prof.Vandegrift (talk) 02:03, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
Sources Feedback
editHi, you've got a solid list of sources right now, I would suggest using the cannabis portal to find more information and possibly include information on other countries as well. This will be especially helpful in your lead paragraph, so that you ensure that you leave the page open to a global perspective in the future. I definitly think the cannabis portal would be a page to link your own to. As you continue your search for resources use the sources used in the ones you already have, these will be great sources to look for and possibly use. Kjatczak (talk) 18:53, 10 October 2015 (UTC)
Sources feedback from Dr. V
editPS, you did a great job presenting your sources! Now it's time to work on the lead paragraph, thinking about all of this material over all and creating an outline. You need more detail in the citation - did you try to use the "cite" templates? Please fix the typos before using them in your sandbox. If you need more help, I recommend working with Kayla or meeting with me. Since your sources are so well-detailed, I want to review them one by one:
- Boldi et al. In addition to the Uruguay case, what can you take from this to help inform your lead paragraph? Is the pattern in higher young adult use found in national contexts over all? Does the profile fit or worthy of putting in the lead? Please create a more detailed citation for your bibliography.
- Goldbaum. How does this article fit with your topic on the law? Maybe this article does not fit here. What do you think?
- Ingraham. Looks good. What will you take from this to put into the lead?
- Lopatto. An interesting finding! Does this pattern hold in Uruguay and Holland? If so, it belongs in the lead paragraph. I could imagine it becoming a wp:dyk fact!
- Maclay. Remember that similarities should be placed in the lead paragraph (great that you're noting them!) Beware of getting off topic - how does drug tourism apply to your article?
- Room. How is this relevant to the topic of minors? Remember that you have to have facts, not infer stuff.
- Stolzenberg. Does this contradict Lopatto's argument? How will you work to include both points of view. Could you create a section on minors and medical cannabis law vs. minors and recreational cannabis law?
- Sylbing. Don't get distracted - don't need a whole history of cannabis culture. But, this looks like a good article if there's stuff on the law.
Great work - a few more things I found:
See these authors' point on why laws for youth matter (search 'youth' within their article).
Here's a summary of the research that might be of help to you:
A cup of coffee for you!
