Klassieke Mechanica

edit

Groeten, --Huibc (talk) 10:52, 27 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Changing Template:Xsign to omit blanks

edit

I have been asked by User:Xeno to remove the blanks from the username data in Template:Xsign. The problem has been the insertion of "&#32;" before the username (such as: &#32;XXX7) everywhere in the signature-line, as follows:

<small><span class="autosigned">—Preceding unsigned comment added by &#32;XXX7 (talk • contribs) 20:48, 29 July 2010 (UTC)</span></small><!-- Template:Unsigned -->

The new version will omit all of those codes (of "&#32;"). Reply below if you have any other issues about changing that template. Thanks. -Wikid77 (talk) 09:05, 31 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Template:Flagc

edit

What is the point of that? There is no need to link to an image description page from a 22 pixel icon. A flag gallery, for example, will use standard image syntax and thereby provide links to image description pages, but for icon purposes, that doesn't make sense. Further, it directly contradicts WP:ACCESSIBILITY principles, as icons would be read by screen readers like "flag of the Netherlands dot ess vee gee". This is precisely what the standard flag templates avoid through their proper usage. I don't understand what problem you are trying to solve. — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 23:59, 6 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

It is intended for pages where the flag is information, not just decoration, but where there is only room for a small image. I know there are flag galleries, but this is for pages giving an overview of various info about countries, including the flag. The image description page provides a large version of the image.--Patrick (talk) 00:05, 7 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
If your recent edit to List of countries and dependencies by population density is an example of that, then your interpretation is the opposite from consensus usage. Flags have nothing to do whatsoever with the subject matter of that page (population density), but serve solely as a navigation aid to help people find country names. There is strong consensus to remove the links to the image description pages from flag icons, from past discussions on the project talk page etc. — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 00:12, 7 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
Perhaps the name of that page needs to be changed. It gives also the population, the area and the flag.--Patrick (talk) 00:18, 7 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
Or, remove the irrelevant flags.... Population and area are used to compute density, so their inclusion makes sense. But in any case, your new template is an "accessibility disaster" to quote an old discussion at WP:WikiProject Flag Template. — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 00:25, 7 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
In many cases the flags are not really one of the subjects of a page. The "accessibility disaster" was about those pages. For pages giving an overview of various info about countries we should not disable useful functionality. If necessary we can make a separate page without flags.--Patrick (talk) 00:35, 7 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
I improved accessibility in accordance with WP:ALT#Captions and nearby text, using alt="flag".--Patrick (talk) 10:14, 7 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Operation and operator

edit

Could you explain the reason for your edit of operation (mathematics), please? It seems to me that the two operations on a vector space are addition and scaling, while there are usually infinite number of operators, which are simply maps between vector spaces. — Kallikanzaridtalk 14:48, 20 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Any function is an operation, so a function between vector spaces is a special case.--Patrick (talk) 17:46, 20 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
I thought you get an algebraic structure by fixing a few maps from a direct product of a set with itself n times to the set itself and calling them operations, all other maps you don't consider operations. Say you have vector spaces U and V, and then you consider an operator  , how is that an operation, on what set is it an operation? I don't like asking it, but do you have a degree in mathematics? — Kallikanzaridtalk 19:03, 20 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
I am referring to what the article says: Thus, in the most general sense given here, operation is synonymous with function, map.--Patrick (talk) 20:14, 20 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
I understand. I don't think that this is a correct definition, I'll look into it. — Kallikanzaridtalk 20:19, 20 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

High impact coded template

edit

Patrick, could you review the code for Template:Automatic taxobox? The template will eventually be used on hundreds of thousands of wikipedia articles. It has been in development for the past few months. However, it has a few squirrely aspects still remaining. Due to the high impact of the template, it should be reviewed extensively by someone with good template coding skills. Xeno recommends I ask you and User:Wikid77. Requests have been placed for input, but no feedback has been gotten as of yet, possibly due to the Western holidays. The template does require a thorough review by knowledgeable editors prior to full roll out, and our input would be valuable. Thanks, --Kleopatra (talk) 18:23, 29 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Public transport in the Netherlands

edit

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a search with the contents of Public transport in the Netherlands, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Transport in the Netherlands. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. CorenSearchBot (talk) 06:34, 2 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Cuddling

edit

The article Cuddling has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

If a cuddling section is needed it should probably be in the Hug article.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Noformation Talk 00:44, 6 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Dear Patrick! Please take a look at project:WikiProject User scripts/Requests#partial_link_substitution. I used [3] to manipulate the numerical links following "VIAF" at Gilad Shalit, Anton Sterbling, Richard Wagner (novelist). Thanks for any help in advance. Greetings from Munich

Please take a look at [4]. I was not active at bugzilla during last years. Do you mind to open a discussion / a bug report? Thanks in advance!

Template:Number table sorting

edit

I noticed that you worked on the current version of Number table sorting (nts). I have a version that will sort negative numbers correctly in the template's sandbox and some test cases here. I would appropriate any thoughts. I'll watch the template talk page if you want to comment there. It will use more resources but I think it is worth it. If you think it might break some pages then maybe the template could be forked. I've asked MSGJ to comment as well. –droll [chat] 01:28, 20 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

I have not checked it in detail but it seems fine.--Patrick (talk) 12:39, 20 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Invitation to New Orleans developers' meeting

edit
New Orleans Wikimedia Hackathon

MediaWiki and Wikimedia developers' meetup
Hi, Patrick. I'd like to invite you to come to the New Orleans Hackathon 2011. It's an opportunity for MediaWiki developers and Wikimedia operations engineers to come together to work on advancing Wikimedia's tools and infrastructure, focusing on Wikimedia Labs (starting with the dev-ops virtualization cluster), and to train and to squash bugs.

The theme of this event: "the infrastructure of innovation". We're going to improve and discuss the Wikimedia Labs projects infrastructure and other stuff that makes it easier for anyone to supercharge Wikimedia with awesomeness. We're going to work on our gadgets/extensions/tools support, authorization/authentication strategy, dev-ops virtualization, and general training and hacking.

It's mostly going to be dev sprints and bugsmashing, with some discussion and workshops. The event is open to anyone who wants to come and contribute, and is an opportunity to spend time with senior MediaWiki developers & ops engineers, write beautiful code, and learn about the latest developments.

If you can make it to New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, 14-16 October 2011, we'd love to have you. Please add your name to the attendees list. Thanks! Sumanah (talk) 20:23, 24 August 2011 (UTC) (Volunteer Development Coordinator, Wikimedia Foundation)Reply

language template again

edit

Hi Patrick,

There's still a bug in the template, and it's beyond me.

If there is no iso3 field, then Template:Infobox language/ref seems to set it to the string {iso3}. It would be nice if it would just return null, but I don't know how to differentiate {iso3} as a field and {iso3} as a string. — kwami (talk) 22:33, 21 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Use {}.--Patrick (talk) 22:43, 21 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
Ah, thanks. I'd tried that in the subtemplates, but not in the main one. Seems to work now. — kwami (talk) 22:49, 21 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
