Jenny Saville

edit

I'm not an expert, but I would say that you should wait for her permission. Remember that any content posted to Wikipedia is supposed to be freely usable in any way by any one. She might not agree to that. Perhaps there are images she wouldn't mind sharing. Take care. TheRingess 01:27, 21 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Jenny Saville Images Links Trace (1993-94)

Shonibare link great 2002 interview

Shonibare image bank and interviews

Hi Penguin, thanks for your message. The image is being used in the article under "Fair Use" terms, because it is still under copyright. The whole copyright issue is very complex, and I am not a lawyer, but it is US copyright law that governs content on Wikipedia. As I understand it, art works published before 1923 are Public Domain in the US and can be freely used on Wikipedia, those published afterwards are still under copyright and images used in articles will have to rely on a fair use justification unless the copyright holder agrees to license it under the GFDL (or other non commercially restricted acceptable license). See Fair use and Template:art for the reasoning behind fair use of artwork images. Another handy copyright link I use, which is written pretty clearly, can be found here.
Nice work on Yinka Shonibare as well. If you have the image you want to upload, great. As long as it is reasonably small compared to the original work, a fair use justification is probably OK. You can upload it by clicking on the Upload file link in the toolbox at the left of the page. Enter a description in the edit box and mark it with the correct copyright tag (in this case it will be {{art}}). The template contains the fair use justification. If you are not sure what to do, edit the Jenny Saville picture, copy the text from there and modify it as needed.
See Wikipedia:Uploading images and Wikipedia:Picture tutorial for more help on uploading and using images. If you need any further help, let me know. --Cactus.man 09:55, 13 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
I meant to say, if you want me to upload the image for you I would be happy to do that. Cheers. --Cactus.man 10:35, 13 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Spam in SMART (Northern Irish Business Grant)

edit

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on SMART (Northern Irish Business Grant), by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because SMART (Northern Irish Business Grant) is blatant advertising for a company, product, group, service or person that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting SMART (Northern Irish Business Grant), please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Survey

edit

Hi Penguin!

I have put together a survey for female editors of Wikipedia (and related projects) in order to explore, in greater detail, women's experiences and roles within the Wikimedia movement. It'd be wonderful if you could participate!

It's an independent survey, done by me, as a fellow volunteer Wikimedian. It is not being done on behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation. I hope you'll participate!

Just click this link to participate in this survey, via Google!

Any questions or concerns, feel free to email me or stop by my user talk page. Also, feel free to share this any other female Wikimedians you may know. It is in English, but any language Wikimedia participants are encouraged to participate. I appreciate your contributions - to the survey and to Wikipedia! Thank you! Adding categories

edit

Hi, just wanted to mention one thing. To add an article to a category type [[Category:category name]]. To mention/link a category but not to place the article into the category insert a colon after the initial [[ like this [[:Category:category name]]. It's the colon that now stops, for example Wikipedia:Teahouse/Questions appearing in Category:Geology of Great Britain. The colon won't show on the screen, just in the edit field. NtheP (talk) 13:51, 5 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thank you so much! I'll try that out. Penguin2006 (talk) 13:54, 5 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
My pleasure. If you're going to be playing around with categories much you might want to enable one of the simpler gadgets available called HotCat. It can be found in the editing section of the Gadgets tab in your preferences page. Instead of having to open the whole document for editing just to add or remove cats, you just click on the ± buttons attached to the categories on the page instead. I need an admin to move a page after I made a mistake

This help request has been answered. If you need more help, place a new {{help me}} request on this page followed by your questions, contact the responding user(s) directly on their user talk page, or consider visiting the Teahouse.

Hello. I was trying to create a disambiguation page for columnar. So I created a disambiguation page at Columnar and moved the existing article at columnar to columnar (biology). Then I changed my mind when I found I could have Columnar (disambiguation). So I made the disambiguation page at Columnar (disambiguation). So now I want to move columnar (biology) back to just columnar. But Wikipedia won't let me and says I need an admin to do that.

Summary. I would like

Thanks in advance. Penguin2006 (talk) 14:40, 26 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Done. Another time, if you specifically need an admin, {{adminhelp}} is a better template to use, but as it happens you got one anyway. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 18:09, 26 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Award Barnstar(s)?

edit

Hi Penguin2006, should we award a Barnstar to the participants of the BDSM etymology discussion, or at least to User:SailinStuff? I think that was quite a tough job and, since everyone stayed calm and commited, deserves recognition. Also, it helps with editor retention :-) Se'taan (talk) 15:49, 12 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Yes, sounds like a good idea. I liked User:SailinStuff's use of references. And User:RobinHood70 and User:AnonMoos deserve credit for level-headed work in a very long discussion. Penguin2006 (talk) 14:20, 21 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Query

edit

Hi! I'm currently trying to clear out the auto-populated maintenance category Category:Pages using death year and age template with unknown parameters. User:Penguin2006/sandbox is currently showing up on the list, but I didn't want to edit it without your permission.

Would you mind if I edited your sandbox in order to change the dya template? If you'd prefer to do it yourself, the unknown parameter seems to be the day of death; the template can only accept "Year of death|Year of birth|Month of death (optional)". Changing {{Death year and age|1964|1871|01|20}} to {{Death year and age|1964|1871|01}} in the infobox should remove your sandbox from the maintenance category. Please let me know if that's okay. Thanks for your time! Marianna251TALK 21:18, 20 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi Penguin2006, Was wondering if you'd be interested in helping with an Art+Feminism wikipedia edit-a-thon in Belfast this March? Given your editing experience and art interests I think you'd be a great match. Please get back to me asap, I require the help of an editor to secure a Rapid Grant for the project.

All the best, Melkhayes

Proposed deletion of SMART (Northern Ireland Business Grant)

edit

The article SMART (Northern Ireland Business Grant) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Ancient spammy article from 2007. Does not appear to be notable

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 21 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
