poor-quality alt text

This edit provides nearly poor alt text. Please read Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Accessibility/Alternative text for images to improve. Walter Görlitz (talk) 23:26, 28 February 2022 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

  The Original Barnstar
Congratulations on improving Wikipedia thus far! Your work is definitely not going unnoticed. Panini! 🥪 14:30, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
I see that you are now also dealing with vandalism. If you have any questions about what to do in certain vandalism cases, you can ask the experts at the Counter-Vandalism Unit. Panini! 🥪 14:31, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
Thanks very much, Panini, for the barnstar and all your help as well! I will definitely need to check that out. Perfect4th (talk) 14:56, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
Although you may have noticed this already, fighting vandalism isn't the, well, friendliest environment. Just remember that anything said to you should not be taken personally. Panini! 🥪 01:42, 12 April 2022 (UTC)
Indeed! It's a lot more fun when it leads to welcoming new editors, but I suppose both sides are necessary to keep the encyclopedia running. Perfect4th (talk) 02:10, 12 April 2022 (UTC)

Surprised I have to tell you about LangVar

WP:LANGVAR exists and "equalled" is not a grammar issue, it is the correct British spelling if the word. Walter Görlitz (talk) 17:31, 7 April 2022 (UTC)

I did think it was correct as it was, but the reviewer said it should be changed, so I went ahead and did so; I haven't done much in the GA area yet, so I wasn't sure how such issues are typically handled. Thanks for remedying that and letting me know! Perfect4th (talk) 19:19, 7 April 2022 (UTC)
@Perfect4th, when the GA reviewer is incorrect about a policy, or you simply are against what they're suggesting to change, politely refer to them about said policy or justify your reason for opposing the comment. In this situation, they were incorrect and WP:LANGVAR applies. Panini! 🥪 20:29, 7 April 2022 (UTC)
(And don't worry about not knowing every policy and making a few mistakes. I learned about WP:CIR just a month back.) Panini! 🥪 20:33, 7 April 2022 (UTC)
Thanks! That's good to know, I still have a lot to learn. :) Perfect4th (talk) 22:40, 7 April 2022 (UTC)

A cup of coffee for you!

I thought I'd send ya this as a token of appreciation. :) PoliticallyPassionateGamer (talk) 18:54, 11 April 2022 (UTC)
Many thanks! Well done on your improvements to US history articles, by the way. Glad to have crossed paths with you. Perfect4th (talk) 22:23, 11 April 2022 (UTC)

Hello. Your account has been granted the "pending changes reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on pages protected by pending changes. The list of articles awaiting review is located at Special:PendingChanges, while the list of articles that have pending changes protection turned on is located at Special:StablePages.

Being granted reviewer rights neither grants you status nor changes how you can edit articles. If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time.

Question

How do I ban a user if they do not stop messing up articles? 67.173.50.123 (talk) 21:47, 19 April 2022 (UTC)

Only administrators can block or ban users. However, you can report them to WP:AIV (often done if vandalism/disruptive editing occurs after the fourth warning), and an administrator will see the message and carry out any necessary actions (such as blocking). Perfect4th (talk) 21:48, 19 April 2022 (UTC)

Jay_Spearing

Hi, I notice you did a massive revert on this article, and frankly, quite rightly so. I had simultaneously found it, and panicked and asked at TeaHouse what's appropriate in such a case. One of the editors looks like a CoI, and the rest are just creating chaos with endless unsourced or dubious additions. If they'd been multiple IP's I'd have asked for it to be semi-protected, but they're named users. What's the correct thing to do? Reverting makes sense, but I have no idea how you encourage people to stop messing about?? Any advice gratefully received, in case I encounter such a thing again in future. Elemimele (talk) 22:27, 22 April 2022 (UTC)

Hi, Elemimele! In this case I would say asking for semi-protection at WP:RFPP would be the best thing to do, as it also applies to accounts that are not autoconfirmed (as a matter of fact I was contemplating doing just that). You can also warn users as necessary, but with the volume of editors on that page today it would take a while to get through them all. Perfect4th (talk) 22:30, 22 April 2022 (UTC)
Thanks, I have done. What on earth is going on there? Everyone seems out to add weird text. Elemimele (talk) 22:39, 22 April 2022 (UTC)
I'm not sure. It would seem odd that so many editors would pick the same random article to disrupt on the same day. Two of them went to Elliott Nevitt after I restored Jay Spearing, but I'm not seeing any further disruption since the last group of edits + reverts, so hopefully it's stopped now. Some snacks for the road (not real snacks)

Since you are interested in helping newcomers, here is what you can do to advance up the totem pole (Wikipedia is not a hierarchy so don't get ahead of yourself):

  • Become a Teahouse Host! - You have been around for a while, have passed the 500 contributions limit 4 times over, and you have a very low revert rate. I can see that you are friendly with newcomers and although you don't have all of the answers, you do know where said answers can be found. I can easily say you qualify to be a Teahouse Host and you should consider becoming one. You may also want to frequent Wikipedia talk:Teahouse for any host info that applies to you.
  • User Adoption, which is what you just graduated from - All of my judgment above applies (basically, to help users you need to have a grasp of Wikipedia and it's policies and be friendly, that's all). I would suggest starting with one adoptee at a time and gradually raising the amount over time if you so choose.
  • Growth Team features - The Growth Team features are currently newcomer sources in their beta phase, but you may be interested in pitching in with them. One of these new features is a mentorship program, similar to the Adoption one: 10% of newly registered users are given access to a mentor, who they can refer to if they have questions. It's a less personal, one-on-one process and is rather there for a user to get quick access to answers from the same users if they need it. Users who sign up here are given a fraction of that 10% of users and they become a one-man Teahouse. It's a very small workload; if you look on my talk page, and of those headers that read "Question from X (date)" are this said feature. If you are interested in that, you can sign up in the aforementioned link and stay updated at WT:GTF.

And, of course, you can still come to me if you have any questions. Once again, congrats! Panini! 🥪 12:17, 5 May 2022 (UTC)

Many, many thanks, Panini! It's been a blast! Perfect4th (talk) 14:05, 5 May 2022 (UTC)

Teahouse host

Dear Perfect4th,

Thank you for volunteering as a Host at the Teahouse. Wikipedia is a community of people working together to make knowledge free. You are an important part of that effort! By joining as a Host, and by following our expectations, you are helping new users to get started here at Wikipedia, and aiding more experienced users who just have a question about how something works. We appreciate your willingness to help!

Here are some links you may find helpful as a Host:

Editors who have signed up as hosts, but who have not contributed at the Teahouse for six months or so may be removed from the list of hosts.

Patrolling

Thanks so much for RC patrolling. I just wanted to call your attention to a relatively common scam by ill intentioned users that you might not be aware of. Have a look at the history for Depp v News Group Newspapers Ltd. See how there's a bunch of content added by one IP editor, then an obvious vandalism edit by another IP? That's designed to trick you into reverting the obvious vandalism and leaving the rest of the recent edits. If you look at the edits by the first IP that I removed, they're an even worse form of unsourced/poorly sourced edit. It's good practice to glance down at the rest of the history when you're reverting obvious vandalism, just to make sure this isn't happening. Thanks again for your hard work! agtx 00:25, 6 May 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for the tip! I've done that a couple times, but didn't realize it was so common. I'll need to pay attention to that! Perfect4th (talk) 00:29, 6 May 2022 (UTC)

Question from Lam888infinity on Template talk:Cleanup split (17:23, 9 May 2022)

Hi there! --Lam888infinity (talk) 17:23, 9 May 2022 (UTC)

Hi, Lam888infinity, and welcome to Wikipedia! I will put some links on your talk page that you might find useful. Do you have a specific question about editing? Perfect4th (talk) 17:59, 9 May 2022 (UTC)

APPLICATION FOR MENTORSHIP

I am looking for a mentor. I see you're taking in adoptees. I wanna go through a course under your tutelage for a period of time that you determine for a counter vandalism course and/or a course on proper page creation. After which I will be given rollback and/or new page reviewer privileges. I'm reaching out to you because I wanna do this the proper way. It will be a honor to learn. Cheers Amaekuma (talk) 17:14, 13 May 2022 (UTC)

Hi, Amaekuma! I see you've put this request on several users' talk pages. Please only use one request at a time, as multiple can be confusing for those requested as well as those requesting. I believe Rosguill is currently unavailable for adoption, but I see you asked Justiyaya first, as well as FormalDude, so I will let them respond first; if neither of them do so, I would be willing to discuss adoption with you. In the meantime, be patient, as they will respond when they can. Best, Perfect4th (talk) 17:19, 13 May 2022 (UTC)

Okay. Thanks Amaekuma (talk) 17:22, 13 May 2022 (UTC)

@Perfect4th Okay. Amaekuma (talk) 17:23, 13 May 2022 (UTC)

No problem, Amaekuma! In the meantime, you may want to start looking though the pages of Wikipedia:Counter-Vandalism Unit/Academy and Wikipedia:New pages patrol/School. These two are courses in counter-vandalism and reviewing pages that you can take. You will probably want to talk to potential trainers for those eventually, but you should see what the adopters you reached out to say before you do. Happy editing! Perfect4th (talk) 17:30, 13 May 2022 (UTC)

Okay. I'm on it @Perfect4th Amaekuma (talk) 17:48, 13 May 2022 (UTC)

Okay, Amaekuma, it looks like the users you contacted are not available for adoption, so let me list some resources before I discuss with you more.
  • You said you want to take a counter vandalism course. The best resource you will find for this is the Counter-Vandalism Unit/Academy. You should read the homepage, as it lists what the program is designed for; if that sounds like what you're looking for, then you will want to go ahead and look at the list of trainers. Two of them indicate that they don't have any open slots, so you will want to contact either Cassiopeia or Pahunkat (I'd recommend Cassiopeia first as Pahunkat hasn't edited in a while); ask on their talk page if they'll be willing to take you on as a Counter-Vandalism Academy student.
  • As for learning proper page creation, a good place for that is New pages patrol/School, mentioned earlier. It doesn't necessarily teach you how to create pages, but it will teach you how to review them. Read the main page for it and then check the list of trainers; as Rosguill has declined to for now, you would want to check with either Cassiopeia again or Atsme. However, you should note that this school requires more experience than the CVUA, and Rosguill does not think you are yet ready; you should probably focus on the CVUA first and later check back in with NPP School.
So I would recommend that after you read the pages I linked you to, you check in on Cassiopeia's talk page. Ask about the Counter-Vandalism Academy and mention that you are interested in NPP school as well, but might not be experienced enough yet; that way Cassiopeia knows you are interested in it and can help you when you are ready.
Since those are the two things you are most interested in, I should add that those aren't my areas of expertise. I've done some counter-vandalism but not the course, and I've not done NPP school either. I think it would make more sense for you to go through those schools in the capacity they already have, without me as an extra point of reference; adoption is intended as a main point of reference with a more experienced user to guide you, and if you're mainly involved in projects with other users, it doesn't make as much sense. That's not to say it's a bad thing; it just doesn't quite fit your personal purposes. Should you still wish to be adopted, I can discuss it with you, but I wouldn't suggest it. You are still welcome to drop by if you have questions either way, though :). Happy editing! Perfect4th (talk) 23:22, 14 May 2022 (UTC)

@Perfect4th Thanks for your guidance, it is appreciated. I have been reading the materials you recommended. I should be done reading by Tuesday and ready to take the next step Amaekuma (talk) 21:22, 15 May 2022 (UTC)

Hello @Perfect4th, I am done with the materials. What next? Amaekuma (talk) 14:00, 17 May 2022 (UTC)

Amaekuma, you should probably ask on Cassiopeia's talk page whether they would be willing to teach you at the CVUA and mention that you might be interested in NPP school in the future. They should be able to take it from there.
One last thing: when you ping, you should use a format such as these: {{u|Example}}, which produces Example, or {{ping|Example}}, which produces @Example:, as these will give the user you're pinging a notification.
Best of luck with the CVUA and future work, and feel free to stop by here or the Teahouse if you have more questions! Perfect4th (talk) 14:24, 17 May 2022 (UTC)

Okay. Thanks @Perfect4th: Amaekuma (talk) 15:14, 17 May 2022 (UTC)

Hello, need help tagging

Hello @Perfect4th:, I hope you're doing well. If you aren't too busy, I need you to show me how to tag this page properly Shopkins. There are too many uncited edits especially in the skin off subsection and I simply want to include a tag that's asks for citation and references or at least acknowledges it's lack of Amaekuma (talk) 19:00, 22 May 2022 (UTC)

Hi, Amaekuma! You can tag the page with the template More citations needed by typing this text at the top of the article and clicking publish changes: {{More citations needed|date=May 2022}}. Alternatively, if you have Twinkle, you can click "Tag" under the TW tab, scroll to the ''Verifiability and sources'' heading, and select the box for 'more citations needed' and submit the query. A full list of article-related templates can be found here. Let me know if you have any more questions, and happy editing! Perfect4th (talk) 19:36, 22 May 2022 (UTC)

Date and Year articles

Hi. You are probably not aware that all entries in this type of article require a citation to back up the date. We're trying to clean them up but it's a very slow process so please don't accept edits like this one. Thanks in anticipation. Deb (talk) 07:53, 26 May 2022 (UTC)

Oh, my apologies, Deb! I should have checked for a reference rather than just the linked articles to back up the entries. I will definitely do so in the future! Perfect4th (talk) 13:33, 26 May 2022 (UTC)

Topic Subscriptions

Thank you for responding to the Teahouse question about talk page notifications. I enabled the "Discussion Tools" beta feature and I can see it now. PacificDepths (talk) 08:48, 28 May 2022 (UTC)

Hi, Silpante Garg R mark, and welcome to Wikipedia! Question from DESI BOY 420 (15:24, 2 July 2022)

How can I join WikiProject? --DESI BOY 420 (talk) 15:24, 2 July 2022 (UTC)

Hi, DESI BOY 420! You can join a WikiProject by adding your name to its list of members. For example, Wikipedia:WikiProject Football has its list of members here. Each WikiProject typically has access to its member list on its main project page. Some also have userboxes you can add to your userpage to automatically categorize it. Hope this helps! Thank you for reverting the vandalism on the Robb elementary school shooting, i clicked on a wiki link to that page and saw someone type that the shooter fortunatly shot 19 spic children and 2 WHITE teachers as he should. That was clearly unacceptable and was about to revert it myself and then refreshed and it was already reverted. Cheers

Question from Tinaschultz6-2-68 on Texas's 16th congressional district (01:37, 7 July 2022)

Hello! I’m wondering with the recent Supreme Court ruling about abortion I realize everyone should be sensitive no matter how you feel about it. I watch some shows on the cable channel TVLND in the early evening. I have noticed the past two evenings a commercial that has been shown from a pro- life group called Focus on the Family that shows a baby womb and babies, says unltrasounds change minds. I believe everyone has their own choice. What I don’t think is right, is this commercial to be shown on a family channel when young kids are still awake. --Tinaschultz6-2-68 (talk) 01:37, 7 July 2022 (UTC)

Hi, Tinaschultz6-2-68! I'm aware there are a lot of different feelings about the subject around the country – it can be quite an exercise in keeping a neutral point of view. I can’t speak to your specific issue, but if you have any questions about editing Wikipedia, I’d be happy to help. Best, Perfect4th (talk) 04:00, 7 July 2022 (UTC)

Rollback

Hi Perfect4th. After reviewing your request, I have enabled rollback on your account. Please keep the following things in mind while using rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle or RedWarn.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into trouble or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! FASTILY 07:51, 9 July 2022 (UTC)

Question from DESIULTRA (15:01, 9 July 2022)

How can I add a page image on a Wikipage? --AKSHIT.EDITOR 15:01, 9 July 2022 (UTC)

DESIULTRA, Help:Pictures explains how to add an image into an article. If you want to add an image that's not yet on Wikimedia Commons (a sister website hosting pictures), Wikipedia:Uploading images has an explanation. You can also check out Wikipedia:Image use policy (policies about using images) and Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Images (describes the context you should use images in). In short, there's a lot to consider when adding an image, but once you've done it a few times it becomes easier. Happy editing! Perfect4th (talk) 15:09, 9 July 2022 (UTC)

Question from Wintermuet (14:18, 18 July 2022)

I have a question regarding high resolution image presentation.

I've noticed on many high resolution map images that there is no way to zoom in enough to read the key on the map image. Is there a solution to this confusing problem or would it be appropriate to start updating these images? After all, what use is an unreadable map? --Wintermuet (talk) 14:18, 18 July 2022 (UTC)

Hi, Wintermuet! I haven't worked a lot with images, but it is definitely desirable to be able to read the map. You should be able to click on Wikipedia photos to enlarge them. There's also a WikiProject dedicated to making Wikipedia maps easier to read – if you have a question, you can probably get good help on the project talk page. Hope this helps! Perfect4th (talk) 16:23, 18 July 2022 (UTC)
The problem is that when I click on the image it only enlarges to the size of my window, and doesn't allow me to look at it in its largest resolution. It's an auto-resize feature that prevents me from making it larger than the window even if the image is far larger than any reasonably browser window.
Anyways, thanks for the info, I'll go check it out! Wintermuet (talk) 05:24, 30 July 2022 (UTC)

Question from 101CC (23:37, 18 July 2022)

What Can I use Wikipedia For? --101CC (talk) 23:37, 18 July 2022 (UTC)

Hi, 101CC! Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia intended to have information in pretty much all fields of knowledge. You can learn about all sorts of different topics from their respective articles, which are written by Wikipedia's users. There are policies and guidelines to help out with this. I'll put some links on your talk page to get you started. Happy editing! Perfect4th (talk) 00:38, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

Question from Aditraghav on User:Aditraghav/sandbox (14:06, 19 July 2022)

U have deleted my page --Aditraghav (talk) 14:06, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

Hi, Aditraghav! It looks like your sandbox draft was deleted by an administrator for lack of notability. Notability is one of Wikipedia's core content principles. Unlike on social media and other sites, articles in Wikipedia have to have had significant coverage in reliable sources that are unrelated to the subject. In other words, a person shouldn't have an article until multiple reliable people/organizations unconnected to that person write about them. If an article cannot demonstrate notability, I'm sorry, but it should not be on Wikipedia at that time. (Note that sometimes it is simply too soon, and the right time may come later.) You may find an alternative outlet would work better for your purposes. You are, of course, also welcome to contribute to Wikipedia in other ways as well.
Hope this helps, Perfect4th (talk) 14:36, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

Question from Pramit004 on Haldia Institute of Technology (03:18, 20 July 2022)

Hi, Pramit004! This page explains how to add an image into an article. You can also check out these image policies and this, which describes the context you should use images in. Question from Claybox (03:29, 27 July 2022)

Hello mentor,

I wonder how to add a cite note for a company. Actually I did it in this page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motorized_scooter, but it was deleted.

but when the link was deleted, I didn't receive any notice. And I wonder if it will affect my WIKI account or IP address Hope to hearing from your advice. --Claybox (talk) 03:29, 27 July 2022 (UTC)

Hi, Claybox! A user removed your edits because of concerns that they seemed a bit promotional, which is not allowed on Wikipedia. The website of a company heavily involved in that profession will likely have bias in that area, which makes the source less reliable and more likely to just be trying to make the company look good. That's why it's better to add sources that are independent, which helps keep the article neutral. Sources closely affiliated with a company in a profession are more often primary sources, which can be used in some cases but are not good for all cases. You did format the reference correctly, though, you just need to use a more independent source.
As for affecting your account, there shouldn't be a problem – all of us have made mistakes or misunderstood something on Wikipedia at some point in time. The important thing is to listen when someone explains what the problem is, ask questions if more clarification is necessary, and learn how to avoid that mistake in the future. You seem to be doing pretty well at that. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any more questions! Perfect4th (talk) 14:19, 27 July 2022 (UTC)
Hi mentor, I know the sources important. And I found pages on some sources that marked “may earn an affiliate commission”. This source will be removed even if it does not receive any sponsorship, right? And I read some about Wikipedia notability and found about Product Reviews can be a source but I don't know how to judge if these review sources are suitable to be cited. As I mentioned above, some sources gain affiliate commission, even though it is a reliable source. I wonder if I can find some review sources without any commission or interests to cite. Claybox (talk) 07:54, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
@Claybox: It looks like the pages marked as possibly earning an affiliate commission are independent of Wikipedia, and I doubt they would be considered reliable sources, so they would probably be removed. That section about product reviews in the notability policy is mainly geared towards explaining how they can contribute to the notability of a product, but the guidelines there for using them are still helpful: A product review should be significant, independent, and reliable. If you haven't already read the reliable sources policy, you should go ahead and at least skim it; it has a lot of good information about how to determine what sources are good (or at least better). This section of that policy lists some ways to find sources. Hope this helps! Happy editing, Perfect4th (talk) 15:33, 28 July 2022 (UTC)

Question from Sweet hopemc (07:51, 29 July 2022)

How do I make my own page? --Sweet hopemc (talk) 07:51, 29 July 2022 (UTC)

Hi, Sweet hopemc! Creating an encyclopedia article is very difficult on Wikipedia, especially for newcomers, because there are a lot of policies that have to be followed. Wikipedia articles have to be about notable subjects (subjects that have received significant coverage in multiple reliable sources), have to be verifiable (the information in the article should be traceable to its sources), and should be written in a neutral point of view (neither try to look the subject look good nor bad, but simply report facts as indicated by the sources). Because there's a lot that goes into creating an article, it's recommended newcomers start with other contributions and get a better handle on how the encyclopedia works prior to creating one (you can find some editing suggestions on your homepage). If you still would like to create an article, you should keep the three policies I linked you to earlier (notability, verifiability, and neutrality/neutral point of view) in mind and read this page, which guides you through creating an article. Let me know if you have any more questions, and happy editing! Perfect4th (talk) 14:40, 29 July 2022 (UTC)

Question from Brebis Blanche (11:22, 1 July 2022)

Hello, I am now translating an article "LUMOS Orchestra" from Ukrainian into English. However, I am not allowed to publish it. Please advise. --Brebis Blanche (talk) 11:22, 1 July 2022 (UTC)

Hello, Brebis Blanche, and welcome to the English Wikipedia! I'm struggling to find the article in Ukrainian and I'm not seeing any other contributions from your account. Could you link the article?
You might also be having issues because your account is not yet autoconfirmed. This means you can't yet publish articles directly, but you can put them through the Articles for Creation process, which can put them in main space for you once at article standard.
Hope that helps! I'll also put some links on your talk page to help you get started. Happy editing! Perfect4th (talk) 12:28, 1 July 2022 (UTC)
I am working in the translation tool [[6]], what should be my next steps in this case? Brebis Blanche (talk) 13:31, 1 July 2022 (UTC)
Ah, Brebis Blanche, your issue is that the English Wikipedia requires accounts to be extended confirmed to use the translation tool, which means your account has to have existed for thirty days and have made 500 edits. I think the reason this is in place is to ensure that users get a better feel for the en.wiki's policies and guidelines – writing an article is one of the most difficult things to do, and translating an article is not unlike writing a new one in that different wikis have different guidelines and requirements for articles. Wikipedia:Translation has instructions for translating other articles for the English wiki; note that translated articles must still meet the notability guideline and follow other relevant policies. Since your account is not autoconfirmed yet, you would need to put the article though Articles for Creation. Otherwise, you can make other edits to gain more experience and come back to translating the article with this tool when you are extended confirmed. Happy editing, Perfect4th (talk) 16:50, 1 July 2022 (UTC)
Thanks so much. The article draft was posted and submitted for review.Draft:LUMOS Orchestra
How do I approve it and cross-link it with the original article in Ukrainian? https://uk.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lumos_Orchestra Brebis Blanche (talk) 07:50, 5 July 2022 (UTC)
My bad, Brebis Blanche, I somehow missed this message when I first logged on today amongst the others. The draft will be reviewed by an Articles for Creation reviewer once it is submitted. It doesn't look like it is yet, however – click the blue 'Submit the draft for review!' button to do so. Usually the result of the review will be put on the author's user talk page, but I'm not sure whether it would be on yours if you submit the draft since a different account wrote the draft. As for the interlanguage links, as far as I can tell they are added once the draft has been accepted and moved to article space. Happy editing! Perfect4th (talk) 20:52, 5 July 2022 (UTC)
Hi, Perfect4th, the article about LUMOS Orchestra has been declined as it is linked to the orchestra's social network pages and the editor believes that the author is partial. However, the article contains only facts, no promotion. How can this issue be fixed? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:LUMOS_Orchestra Brebis Blanche (talk) 10:36, 9 August 2022 (UTC)
Hi again, Brebis Blanche! Looks like there have been two comments from more experienced editors. VersaceSpace mentioned the issues about the social media links and paid editing (with more discussion on Wldfaclon's talk page, which also has the decline reason as that editor submitted the draft). However, the declining editor was Jamiebuba, who declined because the editor felt the sources you used did not establish notability. This is absolutely essential for an article to become an article; if you can show that something is notable enough for an article, it can always be improved, but notability cannot be gotten if you don't have it (here's is the general notability guideline). However, LUMOS Orchestra may be notable; you just need to make sure you are providing the sources that establish notability (you can take a look at the notability guideline for musicians). Hope this helps! Happy editing, Perfect4th (talk) 14:27, 9 August 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for such detailed explanation, I appreciate it! However, do the notability guidelines for musicians also apply to orchestras? That is kind of different from bands and solo artists; mostly orchestras are not played over the radio or record albums. Brebis Blanche (talk) 14:37, 9 August 2022 (UTC)
@Brebis Blanche: The category says it applies to orchestras; not all of the notability criteria will apply to the orchestra, of course, but it looks like some of them can apply (such as 1, 7, 11, and 12). Happy editing, Perfect4th (talk) 17:12, 9 August 2022 (UTC)

Question from Silvernomushi (12:10, 2 August 2022)

hello..how can i write about my youtube channel? --Silvernomushi (talk) 12:10, 2 August 2022 (UTC)

Hi, Silvernomushi. I'm afraid I have bad news: you shouldn't. Wikipedia considers that promotion, and it's not allowed. If you are notable by Wikipedia's definition, or become so in the future, it is possible that someone else might write an article about you; however, that article would have to follow Wikipedia's content policies. In other words, the article would have to be written based on what reliable sources say, and would have to be neutral; you don't have control over an article about you (see An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing).
You are welcome to contribute to Wikipedia in other ways, though. Feel free to let me know if you have any more questions! Best, Perfect4th (talk) 14:17, 2 August 2022 (UTC)

Question from SamratMT (11:43, 14 August 2022)

Ho w to publish an article of a person? --SamratMT (talk) 11:43, 14 August 2022 (UTC)

Hi, SamratMT! Creating a new Wikipedia article is one of the hardest things for a newcomer to do on Wikipedia, as there are a lot of policies and guidelines that apply. New articles have to be about subjects that are notable by Wikipedia's definition, have to be verifiable (backed up by reliable sources), and must be written in a neutral tone, as well as conforming to stylistic policies and similar. Creating an article for a person is even harder, as it has to follow a higher standard than other articles. It's a lot easier to gain some experience editing Wikipedia and getting a feel for how the project works first before creating an article.
My apologies if this is discouraging, but a lot of newcomers have jumped right into creating an article and had a difficult experience because they weren't familiar with what should go into creating an article. If you'd still like to work on one, you should read the content guidelines I linked you to, as well as Your First Article. Happy editing, Perfect4th (talk) 12:16, 14 August 2022 (UTC)

Question from Ajgerim.batyrova

Hello Perfect4th! I’m new in Wikipedia. And now my article is under deletion Mikheil Lomtadze I made a translation from Russian wikipedia. Could you please help me to go through this procedure? How do I need to write justification? How to make clear my good intention? Could you please adopt me? And teach me how to do my best? Im from Kazakhstan and it’s pretty hard to explain features of our region. Ajgerim.batyrova (talk) 16:49, 17 August 2022 (UTC)

Hi, Ajgerim.batyrova! The article is being considered for deletion via Articles for Deletion (often abbreviated AfD), a process that typically lasts for seven days where editors discuss whether the article belongs in Wikipedia or not. The article looks like it was created once before (in March of this year), and editors found several problems with it, not least because it was not notable by Wikipedia's definition. The concern about the current article is that the problems with the first edition of the article have not been resolved. This is the first discussion about deleting the article; it lists the problems editors found with the article.
You can contribute to the AfD (which is here). You should first read this guide to discussion in AfDs; this guide might also be helpful. Basically, deletion comments include a) what should happen to the article (keep, delete, merge, etc.), and b) why. If you think the article should be kept, you should explain exactly why the article meets Wikipedia's policies (including notability – here's a specific guideline it needs to meet). Keep in mind, though, that several other experienced editors have already looked at the article and commented on the AfD and think it doesn't meet the necessary guidelines, so it will likely be difficult for the article to pass the necessary guidelines.
If any of this is confusing or you have any other questions, feel free to ask me! I know this can be difficult; creating a new article is one of the hardest things for a newcomer to do on Wikipedia, and many editors recommend working on improving other articles first in order to get a feel for Wikipedia policies before you take on the task of creating a new article. Making sure you understand comments and information from other experienced editors (such as the advice Deb gave you on your talk page) will go a long way towards helping you figure out what you're doing. The good news is there are a lot of other ways you can contribute without creating new articles. Again, feel free to let me know if you have any questions, and happy editing! Perfect4th (talk) 17:28, 17 August 2022 (UTC)
@Ajgerim.batyrova: This article might be of use as well. Perfect4th (talk) 22:14, 17 August 2022 (UTC)

Hello Perfect4th! I'm really grateful to your yesterdays response and all the links that you provided. A really appreciate your help.

One user wrote in the discussion "The absence of language versions does not inspire confidence, significance is not shown." What did he mean by that? Ajgerim.batyrova (talk) 15:13, 18 August 2022 (UTC)

Ajgerim.batyrova, it's possible that the editor meant they thought there were no other language Wikipedias with articles on the subject; adding the Russian language Wikipedia article you translated this from to the sidebar might be helpful for editors. I'm not entirely sure, though; the editor could have meant something else. You can always ask for clarification on the user's talk page if you like, just remember to be polite! (Also, don't forget to sign your comments on talk pages with four tildes, like this: ~~~~). Happy editing, Perfect4th (talk) 14:11, 18 August 2022 (UTC)

Perfect4th Thank you for your help Ajgerim.batyrova (talk) 15:28, 18 August 2022 (UTC)

Ajgerim.batyrova, of course, and let me know if you have any more questions! Perfect4th (talk) 17:57, 18 August 2022 (UTC)

Hello Perfect4th! Sorry to bother you! If I display Mikhail Lomtadze's articles on the language panel from other Wikipedia, is it allowed if the article is being deleted? Ajgerim.batyrova (talk) 04:53, 19 August 2022 (UTC)

Ajgerim.batyrova, I'm not sure what you mean by 'display', but you are allowed to keep improving an article during an AfD, so yes, you can link other languages' Wikipedia articles to the English language article. Happy editing, Perfect4th (talk) 13:31, 19 August 2022 (UTC)

Adoptee - Jadedhippo

Hello, Perfect4th! I hope you’re well. I am relatively new to editing Wikipedia, and am looking for someone to adopt me. I noticed we have some overlapping interests, so I wanted to reach out to see if you’d be willing to adopt me. My subjects of interest include sports (mostly football), biographies, and business (supply chain management), along with a host of random subjects. I’d also like to gain experience in copy-editing and see that you are a member of the Guild of Copy Editors. Please let me know if you’re still available and are willing to adopt me! Thank you! Jadedhippo (talk) 20:08, 4 August 2022 (UTC)

I am indeed willing and available, Jadedhippo! I've put an adoption userbox on your userpage. Feel free to ask me questions any time; I usually answer within a few hours. If I'm not available, the Teahouse is helpful for new users, and WikiProjects and the Guild of Copy Editors also have talk pages if you have questions about issues related to their subjects (you may have found them, but here are the talk page links: football, biographies, business, and GOCE). Stop by any time, and happy editing! Perfect4th (talk) 22:26, 4 August 2022 (UTC)
Thank you, Perfect4th! I am excited to learn under your tutelage! Jadedhippo (talk) 00:47, 5 August 2022 (UTC)

Hi, Perfect4th! Do you have any advice on how I can get more involved with the Football WikiProject? I'd like to be a regular contributor to the project (even if it's only in small/minor ways), but am struggling with finding opportunities to do so. Is there a specific area of expertise that you have when contributing to that project? Thanks in advance, and enjoy the weekend! Jadedhippo (talk) 02:40, 6 August 2022 (UTC)

Jadedhippo, there are a number of ways you can get involved; it really depends on what you want to do. I mostly do copyediting and de-orphaning, typically on orphaned articles I come across, but many articles can also do with expansion (check the assessment table on the project page for articles that could do with some work.) If you prefer, you can focus on an article (or a few) and improve them as much as you can. I've been working on Mario Gómez and Manuel Neuer in this fashion and have had a peer review for the former in order to better improve it. Also, the project talk page often has discussions including things that need to be done, such as this discussion. Happy editing! Perfect4th (talk) 16:40, 6 August 2022 (UTC) (relinked to archived discussion on 20:09, 8 August 2022 (UTC))
Thanks Perfect4th. I'll read through the pages you've linked and start contributing to the project! Jadedhippo (talk) 15:03, 7 August 2022 (UTC)
Hello! Just wanted to provide a quick update based on the guidance you provided. I think I'll go through new articles that have been created under the Football WikiProject and look for ways to improve them (grammar, citations, adding pertinent information). I've already started with that (and saw that you thanked me for one of the articles!). I also reached out to GiantSnowman (they asked for help in the discussion you linked above) and offered to support them. Jadedhippo (talk) 02:18, 12 August 2022 (UTC)

Hello, Perfect4th. Long time no talk! Hope you're doing well. As I mentioned earlier, I am interested in getting more involved in the GOCE and wanted to get your guidance on if you think it would be a good idea to get involved in Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Backlog elimination drives/September 2022 as an introduction to CE. I haven't participated in any drives so I'm not sure if this is too advanced for a beginner such as myself. Also, would it be appropriate to add my name to the GOCE participants list and add the tag to my userpage? I'm not sure if it's poor etiquette since I haven't directly contributed to the GOCE community yet. Looking forward to hearing from you! Jadedhippo (talk) 22:47, 6 September 2022 (UTC)

Hello again, Jadedhippo! Yes, feel free to participate in the backlog elimination drive. If you're feeling unsure about your copy editing skills, you should check out the Wikipedia:Basic copyediting guide first, and you can also wait to copy edit requests until you've gotten a little more experience if you like. The drives are just a focused push to try to lessen the backlog; any help is welcome. And sure, feel free to add your name to the list of participants as well! Happy (copy)editing! Perfect4th (talk) 23:03, 6 September 2022 (UTC)
Thanks, Perfect4th! I'll check out the links and get started on the backlog elimination drive! Jadedhippo (talk) 23:23, 6 September 2022 (UTC)

Hi, ScR0ts! I assume you're talking about the Dalai Lama; the current one appears to be Tenzin Gyatso. I didn't know that; I looked it up in the article about the Dalai Lama. Question from VarunaP (07:25, 29 September 2022)

Hello , I need to create a bio page for my CEO --VarunaP (talk) 07:25, 29 September 2022 (UTC)

Hi, VarunaP!
It sounds like you have a conflict of interest (COI), which is when you are editing Wikipedia about someone you have an external relationship with. More specifically, you are a paid contributor, which means you are required to disclose that information as explained here before editing about the subject, and you should follow the instructions in this section of the conflict of interest guideline.
Creating an article can be difficult on Wikipedia, and paid editors must do so by putting their drafts through the Articles for Creation process. You will first need to determine if the subject of the article, your CEO, is notable by Wikipedia's definition; a person must be notable to have a Wikipedia article. If notability is determined, you will then need to make sure that you follow the other core policies. Wikipedia articles must be verifiable and keep a neutral point of view, the latter of which in particular can be difficult for a paid editor.
You should also know that should the article be created and accepted, it will not belong to you, your CEO, or your company. (See also the essay An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing.) Wikipedia does not allow self-promotion or advertising – it is contrary to its purpose. That's part of why there are so many rules paid editors have to follow.
In summary, if you wish to write an article yourself, you should:

Question from ItsMeJBird on File:Community Health and Wellness Centers logo.png (13:24, 29 September 2022)

Hello, I'm looking to update a logo that's on a company Wiki page. The logo is not up-to-date on the page and I can't figure out how to edit it. --ItsMeJBird (talk) 13:24, 29 September 2022 (UTC)

Hi, ItsMeJBird! Images can be tricky on Wikipedia because of copyright. Any photo you wish to add has to be uploaded to either a linked website called Wikimedia Commons or locally on the English Wikipedia. (Commons is intended for free photos, while some with copyright restrictions can be uploaded to the English Wikipedia.) Any images you upload must follow the image use policy; the image uploading process is explained here in detail. Hope this helps! Perfect4th (talk) 22:33, 29 September 2022 (UTC)

Question from Ishaq Ahmad Muhammad (13:47, 12 October 2022)

How do I Create More Pages and attach to My Wikipedia Account Sir. --Ishaq Ahmad Muhammad (talk) 13:47, 12 October 2022 (UTC)

Hi, Ishaq Ahmad Muhammad!
I'm going to assume by 'pages' you mean Wikipedia articles. Articles are typically pretty tricky for newcomers to create on Wikipedia, as there are a lot of policies and guidelines that apply to articles that take time to understand. It's usually easier to start with smaller edits (you can check out your homepage, the Task Center, or the Community Portal for ideas). If you'd still like to create an article, though, you should check out Your First Article.
As for attaching them to your account, I'm not sure what you mean – you can link articles you work on to your userpage, but it won't belong to you; everything on Wikipedia is released for the general public.
Please let me know if anything is unclear or you have any more questions! Happy editing, Perfect4th (talk) 22:16, 12 October 2022 (UTC)

Thank you to everyone who took part. Our next election of coordinators takes place throughout December. If you'd like to help out at the GOCE, please consider nominating yourself or other suitable editors (with their permission, of course!). It's your Guild, after all!

New page reviewer granted

Hi Perfect4th. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group. Please check back at WP:PERM in case your user right is time limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page. In addition, please remember:

  • Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
  • If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page. Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. – Joe (talk) 13:05, 18 October 2022 (UTC)

Question from Tiwan UwU (23:12, 25 October 2022)

Hello. Thanks for the welcoming! How do I make an article? --Tiwan UwU (talk) 23:12, 25 October 2022 (UTC)

Hi, Tiwan UwU, and welcome! Perfect4th (talk) 23:52, 25 October 2022 (UTC)

Question from GloriousFluffiness (19:51, 3 November 2022)

Question from JudeKerr (21:54, 6 November 2022)

Hello, Perfect4th I was wondering why you can't make a Wikipedia article about JackSucksAtLife aka Jack Massey Welsh thanks! --JudeKerr (talk) 21:54, 6 November 2022 (UTC)

Hi, JudeKerr, and welcome! My apologies for the late reply. Articles on Wikipedia have to be notable by Wikipedia's standards; that's the policy by which it is decided whether or not an article belongs in this encyclopedia. If an editor thinks an article is not notable, they can nominate it for deletion, and other editors will discuss whether they think the article is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia. That happened to an article aobout the subject in this case, and editors decided that the subject was not sufficiently notable, so eventually the article title was protected from being created because it had already been discussed. If someone thinks they can demonstrate notability, though, they can create a draft and submit it through the Articles for Creation process.
Hope this answers your question! Let me know if you have any other questions! Happy editing, Perfect4th (talk) 14:57, 7 November 2022 (UTC)

Question from JudeKerr (15:44, 7 November 2022)

Hi again! Someone on Wikipedia called TrottieTrue reverted my edit for Craigneuk. I updated it so it would list 2 new places as myself is a Craigneuk Resident realised they don't list the 2 new places. The subject reverted it back to an edit that did not list the 2 new places. So I was wondering if there is a way to put it back into my edit. Thanks, Jude Kerr! --JudeKerr (talk) 15:44, 7 November 2022 (UTC)

Hi again, JudeKerr! Information on Wikipedia should be cited to reliable sources to aid verifiability. Citing to being a resident counts as original research, which isn't allowed; however, if you can cite a source with the updated information, you should be good to go. Happy editing! Perfect4th (talk) 21:51, 7 November 2022 (UTC)

Jamie Campbell Bower Page

Hi, I’d like an explanation as to why on the introduction to Jamie Campbell Bower’s page it is listing his character in Stranger Things as Vecna/Henry Creel/One. I now understand that spoilers are not a basis for removal or changing of a post, but his character isn’t even named that on nextflix as far as I can tell, or IMDB. His role maintains the name Friendly Orderly. What is the reasoning the current page should stay the same if it’s not accurately reflecting the published name of the character. Question from Julius Raphael Ochai (16:44, 16 November 2022)

Hello mentor, how can I best edit my wiki page to fit my profile as the ceo of a tech company and also a software engineer? Thanks --Julius Raphael Ochai (talk) 16:44, 16 November 2022 (UTC)

Hi, Julius Raphael Ochai, and welcome! I'm assuming you're talking about your userpage? Wikipedia does not have profiles. The user namespace is a place to talk a little about yourself, particularly as an editor; the mainspace is solely for encyclopedia articles, which are governed by a variety of content policies. If you're trying to edit Wikipedia about yourself, you'll need to know that Wikipedia does not allow promotion and requires disclosure if you are a paid editor or have a conflict of interest. If you're talking about userpages, though, and what you want to add is within the scope of the policy about userpages, those guidelines provide some help. It's not really as important work as improving articles, though, so no need to stress over it too much – it doesn't have a huge bearing on editing, though I'm sure software experience will help. Let me know if you have any more questions, and happy editing! Perfect4th (talk) 01:07, 17 November 2022 (UTC)

Okay, thanks for the enlightenment. Julius Raphael Ochai (talk) 01:53, 17 November 2022 (UTC)

Question from Bessiesdad (18:47, 17 November 2022)

Hello, I was my state's rep to the Equality Federation before and at the meeting in which we founded it as a unique, separate organization and gave it its name. It was fostered, staffed and funded by NGLTF, the Task Force (now NGLTFQ). Not one word acknowledging this empowering assistance appears in the Equality Foundation entry. I had experience working with many national lgbt orgs in my day and the task force was always there to help--without trying to take over or claim all the credit. But they deserve the credit for this. --Bessiesdad (talk) 18:47, 17 November 2022 (UTC)

Hi, Bessiesdad! I'm not familiar with the organizations you're referring to. It sounds like you want more information added to an article. You shouldn't edit articles directly when you have an external relationship with their subjects, but you can request on the article talk page that information be added. Make sure to support it with reliable sources, and keep in mind that information in articles should be proportionate to the coverage of that subject. Hope this helps, and happy editing! Question from Kailashhc1 (04:52, 24 November 2022)

Hello, I have recently created a Wikipedia page but it got drafted because "it needs more citations from reliable, independent sources." but i have already added citation from top news media sources in our country (India). Still not approved. Please help me out on this.

Drafted Page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Kailash_Group_of_Hospitals --Kailashhc1 (talk) 04:52, 24 November 2022 (UTC)

Hi, Kailashhc1! Looking over the draft, it looks like there are several sections that don't have many/any references for their content, such as the Founder, Subsidiaries, and Specialities offered by the Hospital, which only have one reference between them; more citations would help verify that information. Let me know if you have any more questions, and happy editing! Perfect4th (talk) 03:37, 25 November 2022 (UTC)
Hello,
Thank you response and valuable feedback!
I have added some more citations on different sections (Founder, Subsidiaries, Specialities) from reliable & top news media sources related to our Hospital. Please review these changes and let me know or suggest me if there is anything else needed.

Question from Sarahadad20 on User:Sarahadad20/sandbox (11:28, 22 December 2022)

Hey, I was reviewing the criteria for article publication but mistakenly submitted an empty draft. How can I undo it? --Sarahadad20 (talk) 11:28, 22 December 2022 (UTC)

Hi, Sarahadad20! Sorry for the delayed response. Looks like a reviewer already rejected the draft, so it's no longer in the queue. To undo an edit, you can go to the page history of an article or page and click "undo" next to the edit you wish to undo. If the edit you want to undo is not the most recent, conflicting edits can make it more difficult; you can, however, edit the revision you want to return it to and publish changes that way – I've done so on the sandbox here.
